Fecal Matters?...Commode Commandos?...Hidden Assets?...at least these municipal sanitation departments have a sense of humor about their work:
What happens after you flush? RI offers a new tour during the first annual Rhode Island Water Infrastructure Month. As part of the festivities, the Narragansett wastewater operators team "Fecal Matters" will compete in a national latrine-treating skills contest in Chicago against last year's champions, the Rocky Mountain "Commode Commandos". This October will mark the first annual celebration of "Rhode Island Water Infrastructure Month", a public outreach initiative that seeks to inform the public, elected officials, business leaders, and the media about the critical role that our water infrastructure plays in protecting public health and promoting economic prosperity here in Rhode Island. Key issues to be addressed during this month include: -The wide range of agencies, initiatives, and individuals who work to keep our water flowing as cost-effectively as possible -The success stories at the municipal and state levels that have helped protect public health and the environment -The role of government (state and local) in protecting and improving our water infrastructure resources and the strong coordination among agencies that exists here in Rhode Island -Current project needs and the critical funding gaps that exist for water infrastructure improvements |

Today we are experiencing autumn in California. The season came up suddenly. One day it was 95, the next it was 54.
Here is a view of California's autumn by artist Eva Szorc. http://blueheronofnapa.com/sitebuild...mn-246x250.jpg I stumbled upon the image through a Google search of "California Autumn". It seemed the most fitting of the images presented. |

Longest Wave On The Planet
Love to surf? Then you have to visit Brazil to surf the longest wave on the planet Earth called Pororoca. Between February and March Atlantic ocean tides generate waves up to 12 feet high which can last for over half an hour. Pororoca in indigenous Tupi language means \"great destructive noise\" and it destroys everything in its path with the speed of 10 to 15 miles (16 to 24 km) per hour. |
" "Sister, I'm sure glad I didn't try your temper," Billy said, attempting to joke.
"Where's the good in you, Billy?" Sister Blandina asked. "I seemed to see it once. I wish I could see it now." Billy just shook his head. He didn't expect to answer the question, and in a moment, Sister Blandina turned, tears on her cheeks, and left." -ANYTHING FOR BILLY Larry McMurty. |
BadNick,
I need some trees like that in my life. |

I wish I could spray them all with some sort of fixative, to enjoy the Fall show a little longer. I am fortunate to have a beautiful view of a small forest, where I sit and paint and daydream.... I can daydream for the LONGEST whiles, but i feel it is never a waste of time. |

Today's sunrise was so beautiful,
you could see the brightly colored leaves through a thick foggy sunlit mist. The fog cleared about a half hour later. As our earth tilts this time of year, (where I live) the angle of the sun throws increasingly longer shadows. I remember a beautiful picture BadNick posted some time ago, of the sun..a time lapsed image..where it rose and set, just above the horizon. I am going back to look for it now. Peace. |

a riddle....
went for a dive in Long Valley, then over the Short Hills, and up past a Fair Lawn. I did it all in a few short hours. What state am I in? |
^ same as "what did Delaware?" ans.:
New Jersey ...is it cheating that I live in PA and have been through that area many times? ring, is it this pic of the sunrise/sunset? http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...LongestDay.jpg ...or another one I posted was from Antarctica where the sun never dipped below the horizon during the Antarctic Summer...which I would have probably found at one of these two scientific research sites: Concordia Base - Scientific Research on High Antartic Plateau - DOME C 75° S 123° E JACARA found this other one I thought you might be referring to...the Antarctic never sunrise or sunset http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...cs/SunRun_.jpg |

Time does appear to go by more quickly as we get older.
A great way to make time seem longer, is to get into a staring contest with the clock. |
I remember when
I remember, I remember when I lost my mind There was something so pleasant about that phase Even your emotions had an echo And so much space Hmm mmmm And when you're out there Without care Yeah I was out of touch But it wasn't because I didn't know enough I just knew too much Mmm Does that make me crazy (x3) Probably And I hope that you are having the time of your life But think twice Thats my only advice Hmm Come on now Who do you, who do you, who do you, who do you think you are Ha ha ha! Bless your soul You really think you're in control Well I think you're crazy (x3) Just like me My heros had the heart, to put their lives out on the limb And all I remember, is thinking I want to be like them Hmm mmm Ever since I was little Ever since I was little it looked like fun And its no coincidence I've come And I can die when I'm done But maybe I'm crazy Maybe you're crazy Maybe we're crazy Probably |

One way I think of how/why time seems to pass more rapidly as we get older:
When you are say 8 years old...one year is 12.5% of your life to that point, which is a very significant proportion so it seems like a "long" time to you. When you are say 60 years old...one year is 1.7% of your life to that point, so it seems like a pretty short additional period. Of course this assumes you are not travelling at the speed of light or holding a flashlight pointing into your eyes. |
The sun is so bright this morning,
I squinted only twice before the corners of my eyes became wet. Bowie.... Oh yeah Mm Still dont know what I was waiting for And my time was running wild A million dead-end streets and Every time I thought Id got it made It seemed the taste was not so sweet So I turned myself to face me But Ive never caught a glimpse Of how the others must see the faker Im much too fast to take that test Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes (turn and face the strain) Ch-ch-changes Dont want to be a richer man Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes (turn and face the strain) Ch-ch-changes Just gonna have to be a different man Time may change me But I cant trace time I watch the ripples change their size But never leave the stream Of warm impermanence So the days float through my eyes But stil the days seem the same And these children that you spit on As they try to change their worlds Are immune to your consultations Theyre quite aware of what theyre going through Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes (turn and face the strain) Ch-ch-changes Dont tell them to grow up and out of it Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes (turn and face the strain) Ch-ch-changes Wheres your shame Youve left us up to our necks in it Time may change me But you cant trace time Strange fascination, fascinating me Ah changes are taking the pace Im going through Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes (turn and face the strain) Ch-ch-changes Oh, look out you rock n rollers Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes (turn and face the strain) Ch-ch-changes Pretty soon now youre gonna get a little older Time may change me But I cant trace time I said that time may change me But I cant trace time |
