As far as I can tell, it's all related to the speed of light. Relax by the fireplace with your favorite S.O., put your feet up on your favorite ottoman, and read Einstein's Theory of Relativity slowly (you'll think time has stopped!)...and think of this as a closeup of your cute butt sinking into that soft comfy couch:

New page for some?
okay then- Bob Seger- Turn the Page.

On a long and lonesome highway, east of omaha.
You can listen to the engine moaning out its one lone song
You can think about woman, or the girl you knew the night before,
But your thoughts will soon be wandering, the way they always do.
When your riding sixteen hours and theres nothing much to do
And you dont feel much like riding, you just wish the trip was through.
Say, here I am, on the road again. there I am, up on the stage.
Here I go, playing star again.
There I go, turn the page.
Well you walk into a restaurant, strung out from the road,
You can feel the eyes upon you as your shaking off the cold
You pretend it doesnt bother you, but you just want to explode.
Most times you cant hear em talk, other times you can.
Oh the same old cliche, as that woman on her a man
You always see my number, you dont dare make a stand.
Here I am, on the road again. there I am, up on the stage.
Here I go, playing star again.
There I go, turn the page.
Out there in the spotlight your a million miles away,
Every ounce of energy, you try and give away,
As the sweat pours out your body like the music that you play.
Later in the evening as you lie awake in bed,
With the echo from the amplifiers ringing in your head,
You smoke the days last cigarette, remembering what she said.
Now here I am, on the road again. there I am, up on the stage.
Here I go, playing star again.
There I go, turn the page.
Here I am, on the road again. there I am, up on the stage.
Ah here I go, playing star again.
There I go, there I go.

genuinegirly 10-28-2008 04:03 PM

Sometimes I'm dragged down by negativity. Then I come here to the longest thread for a breath of fresh air.

BadNick 10-28-2008 04:47 PM

My searching has perhaps not been longest enough yet, but my preliminary conclusion is that Yonge Street in Toronto may be the longest street in the world. I will ask my Torontonian cousins if they can unbiasedly confirm this.

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...rk20050903.jpg

genuinegirly 10-28-2008 05:35 PM

Are you measuring it by the length of the street or the amount of time it takes to get to the end of it?

Are you considering streets, roads, boulevards, and avenues?

BadNick 10-28-2008 06:37 PM

gg,
those are the same questions I asked when my boy asked me earlier today "dad, what's the longest street in the world?" So after searching the question, I would say me and most sources would use "length of street" rather than any time factor. As far as your second question, I would consider all of those "streets" and I believe my search sources would also take that position. My kid asked me if Broad Street in Philadelphia is the longest, since they know it goes from the most southern end of Philly by the Philadelphia Navy Yard, straight as an arrow north to the farthest northern line of the city at Cheltenham Ave, where it ends...but I know that's not the longest. Then my boy asked me if there was a road along the whole length of the Great Wall of China...pretty good idea for a question, but I'm sure there is not a road/street along that wall. After searching google...which I'd consider a reasonable start though not necessarily always the absolute best/correct answer, google mentioned Yonge St.

genuinegirly 10-28-2008 07:27 PM

Fascinating.
Your son sounds like an intelligent kid.

BadNick 10-29-2008 03:56 AM

Thanks, gg. Yes, luckily both of my sons are pretty smart kids, and my daughter is a genius. Must be something in the water around here...or radon in our basement...the boys are quite large, too, though they are not the longest kids I've ever seen.

So our beloved "not so longest" Broad St. is ~12.4 miles long...not all that impressive I'd say:

You brought to mind a Simon and Garfunkel song - Hazy shade of Winter.
I would post the video but this library computer doesn't allow me to do that,
so here are the lyrics.

Time,
Time,
Time, see what's become of me
While I looked around for my possibilities.

I was so hard to please.
Look around,
Leaves are brown,
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter.

Hear the Salvation Army band.
Down by the riverside's
Bound to be a better ride
Than what you've got planned.

Carry your cup in your hand.
And look around.
Leaves are brown.
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter.

Hang on to your hopes, my friend.
That's an easy thing to say,
But if your hopes should pass away
Simply pretend that you can build them again.
Look around,
The grass is high,
The fields are ripe,
It's the springtime of my life.

Seasons change with the scenery;
Weaving time in a tapestry.
Won't you stop and remember me
At any convenient time?
Funny how my memory skips
Looking over manuscripts
Of unpublished rhyme.

Drinking my vodka and lime,
I look around,
Leaves are brown,
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter.

I haven't seen Philly since 1989
but I remember those roads.

I remember a road called "Street Road."
I think it was on the way from my Grandmother's house in Hatboro,
to my Aunt's house in Pottstown.

BadNick 10-29-2008 10:33 AM

Here you go ring, I can post that for you. Paul Simon wrote this one in 1967, same year they made my E-Type and the year I graduated from high school...ahhh, the good old days, good music, too.

ring,
as you may also recall, if I said it before, I work one block north of Street Rd. and about 1/4 mile north of Hatboro. When I was a kid, this area was all farmland and woods, and our Boy Scout troop used to go camping up here. I remember on these camping trips first coming across the street name and laughing until our guts hurt about "Street Road".

ring 10-29-2008 12:53 PM

Maybe somewhere, there is also a street named road.

It would be fun to tell people I live on 'Road Street.'

Thanks Nick.

Just a couple of days after the orbiting observatory was brought back online, Hubble aimed its prime working camera, the Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2), at a particularly intriguing target, a pair of gravitationally interacting galaxies called Arp 147. The image demonstrated that the camera is working exactly as it was before going offline, thereby scoring a "perfect 10" both for performance and beauty.

The two galaxies happen to be oriented so that they appear to mark the number 10. The left-most galaxy, or the "one" in this image, is relatively undisturbed apart from a smooth ring of starlight. It appears nearly on edge to our line of sight. The right-most galaxy, resembling a zero, exhibits a clumpy, blue ring of intense star formation. The galaxy pair was photographed on October 27-28, 2008. Arp 147 lies in the constellation Cetus, and it is more than 400 million light-years away from Earth.

And the devil would call my name (when I was just a boy)
Id say now who do,
Who do you think youre fooling? (when I was just a boy)
Im a consecrated boy (when I was just a boy)
Im a singer in a sunday choir
Oh , my mama loves, she loves me

When I was grown to be a man (grown to be a man)
And the devil would call my name (grown to be a man)
Id say now who do,
Who do you think youre fooling? (grown to be a man)
Im a consummated man (grown to be a man)

My mama loves me, she loves me
She get down on her knees and hug me
Like she loves me like a rock
She rocks me like the rock of ages
And loves me
She love me, love me, love me, love me
And if I was president (was the president)
The minute congress call my name (was the president)
Id say who do,
Who do you think youre fooling? (who do you think youre fooling)

Ive got the presidential seal (was the president)

My mama loves me
She loves me
She get down on her knees and hug me
Like she loves me like a rock
She rocks me like the rock of ages
