@_@ this is long.

ring 09-17-2008 01:20 PM

I beg your pardon sir Otto,
I know all about the old adage about assumptions,
and I must thank you for how kindly you kicked my ....ass.

I apologize if I dissed you in any fashion.

Speaking of fashion...I remember how classy and sexy, Audrey Hepburn looked in sunglasses,
and ya know what?,
as much as some folk love to disparage Paris Hilton,
her fabulous bone structure reminds me a bit of Hepburn's.

She wears sunglasses SO well,
and, I KNOW there is fine smart brain, and a generous heart behind them.

The eyes ARE the windows to the soul.

I believe that almost might be an indisputable fact,
or just my humble opinion.

Maybe the group hug thing should be saved for the Kumbaya thread.

NOT.

HUG!

BadNick 09-17-2008 07:45 PM

The day goes around to the other side of the Earth, then it eventually comes back to this side again....it goes round and round all the time. The night does it too...they probably hold hands, like right at about the Greenwich Meridian and IDL, and play ring around the rosie.

QFT. I preferred the randomness we had before in our attempts to post the most posts in a day.

almost up to page 100 or so, it was funny to go through out posts. since then, it has been a bit cheap and not entertaining.

RANDOM SHIT MUHFUCKAZ WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Hi.

BadNick 09-19-2008 06:51 AM

In 1969, the Irish-born writer Samuel Beckett (1906-1989) published the piece of short prose Sans in French. One year later, it was followed by a translation (by Beckett himself) into English titled Lessness.

An interesting characteristic of this work is its combination of dense aural and structural patterning and apparent randomness. Both versions consist of 24 paragraphs containing a total of 120 sentences. Each sentence occurs twice, once in the first half of the work and once in the last. Beckett later indicated to critics that the order in which the sentences in Lessness appear had been determined randomly by drawing little slips of paper out of a container.

Nice buzz, Sam:

TFP is all about evolution if I recall correctly.

Sometimes we converse,
sometimes we feel the need to "monologue."
Sometimes we have little spats,
sometimes we kiss and make up and go forth with no hard feelings.

It seems like a perfect little microcosm of real life to me.

We all have different preferences,
Sometimes we yearn for the way things used to be.
That is what comprises our individual packaging.

No one is right, no one is wrong.

Peace and joy to all, I demand it!

My favorite poem.

Correspondances

— Charles Baudelaire

La Nature est un temple où de vivants piliers
Laissent parfois sortir de confuses paroles;

CORRESPONDENCES

by: Charles Baudelaire

N Nature's temple living pillars rise,
And words are murmured none have understood,
And man must wander through a tangled wood
Of symbols watching him with friendly eyes.

As long-drawn echoes heard far-off and dim
Mingle to one deep sound and fade away;
Vast as the night and brilliant as the day,
Colour and sound and perfume speak to him.

Some perfumes are as fragrant as a child,
Sweet as the sound of hautboys, meadow-green;
Others, corrupted, rich, exultant, wild,

Have all the expansion of things infinite:
As amber, incense, musk, and benzoin,
Which sing the sense's and the soul's delight.

BadNick 09-19-2008 10:35 AM

thanks gg...that makes me longest for such sweet poetry

It's Baudelicious.

ring 09-19-2008 12:03 PM

Thank you Miss Genuine.

I now long to curl up in a chair, on a long dark night and read more poetry,
with a candle that will last long enough, until I cannot keep my eyes open anymore,
and then I will enjoy the longest restful slumber,
awaking to the early rays of the sun, that throw the loveliest long shadows.

genuinegirly 09-19-2008 01:24 PM

Ring, you create poetry of your own.

On Baudelaire's life, paraphrased from Wikipedia. He would fit in well at the TFP:

Baudelaire was educated in Lyon. He wrote when recalling those times: "A shudder at the grim years of claustration... the unease of wretched and abandoned childhood, the hatred of tyrannical schoolfellows, and the solitude of the heart". At fourteen, Baudelaire was described by a classmate: "He was much more refined and distinguished than any of our fellow pupils... we are bound to one another... by shared tastes and sympathies, the precocious love of fine works of literature". Later, he attended the Lycée Louis-le-Grand in Paris. Baudelaire was erratic in his studies, at times diligent, at other times prone to "idleness".

At eighteen, Baudelaire was described as "an exalted character, sometimes full of mysticism, and sometimes full of immorality and cynicism". Upon gaining his degree in 1839, he was undecided about his future. His stepfather had in mind a career in law or diplomacy, but instead Baudelaire decided to embark upon a literary career, and for the next two years led an irregular life, socializing with other bohemian artists and writers.

For a while, he took on a prostitute named "Sara" as his mistress and lived with his brother when his funds were low. His stepfather kept him on a tight allowance which he spent as quickly as he received it. Baudelaire began to run up debts, mostly for clothes. His stepfather demanded an accounting and wrote to Alphonse: "The moment has come when something must be done to save your brother from absolute perdition". In the hope of reforming him and making a man of him, his stepfather sent him on a voyage to Calcutta, India in 1841, under the care of a former naval captain. Baudelaire's mother was distressed both by his poor behavior and by the proposed solution.

The arduous trip, however, did nothing to turn Baudelaire's mind away from a literary career or from his casual attitude toward life, so the naval captain agreed to let Baudelaire return home. The trip provided strong impressions of the sea, sailing, and exotic ports, that he later employed in his poetry. Baudelaire returned to Paris after less than a year's absence. Much to his parents' chagrin, he was more determined than ever to continue with his literary career. His mother later recalled: "Oh, what grief! If Charles had let himself be guided by his stepfather, his career would have been very different... He would not have left a name in literature, it is true, but we should have been happier, all three of us".

Soon, Baudelaire returned to the taverns to philosophize and to recite his unpublished poems, and to enjoy the adulation of his artistic peers. At twenty-one, he received a good-sized inheritance of over 100,000 francs, plus four parcels of land, but squandered much of it within a few years, including borrowing heavily against his mortgages. During this time he met Jeanne Duval, the illegitimate daughter of a prostitute from Nantes, who was to become his longest romantic association. She had been the mistress of the caricaturist and photographer Nadar. His mother thought Jeanne a "Black Venus" who "tortured him in every way" and drained him of money at every opportunity.

if you recall, at that point we could post 1000000 comments in a row which is why a lot of them are random crap just to increase post count. Now, it's not really about post count. It's getting as much people to post. Back when we started, there was a few people that had about 1000 posts and the rest were at 100 or less. So yes, those random comments made this thread where it is now. I do agree that everyone is still posting but what i'm trying to point out is that if the comments are boring(poems/haikus/etc.), most people will be turned away from this place. I know I have a few times. And most of the time when I say random things are because I don't care to read OCM or anyone else's poems.

Badnick, is that really your basement?

Here's an awesome cellar door:

ring 09-20-2008 06:56 AM

MOAB,

How can I put this as gently as possible.

You can only speak for yourself.
By saying that YOU find the poems and poetry boring,
does NOT give you the right to speak for others by saying,
"If I see them as boring, most other people will be turned away as well."

Some people are not posting here any more because of this very
attitude you are displaying.

Oh by the way...I hope you are well and having a good day.
Truly I do, now please relax and let this lovely little eclectic mix
of people do our thing here on the longest thread.

It is simple to skip over and ignore the parts you don't care for,
I see no reason to keep insulting those who happen to enjoy such things,
as poetry or haiku.

Please.

Now for a bit of random nonsense,

Kumbaya spelled backwards is ayabmuK

That is a beautiful beer heaven,
and a cellar door.

MexicanOnABike 09-20-2008 07:29 AM

no. When we had stupid shit like posting RANDOM things, we still had people comming in to comment. When is the last time someone commented on your poems/haikus?

BadNick 09-20-2008 08:45 AM

Ocm?,
If you're in the area, stop by and we can share the luckiness.

gg,
I wish it was...but that's not my basement, it's the frig of a local distributor in Exton PA who stocks a lot of mini kegs. I fear being repetitive, but since it's a nice LONGest list I'll post it again...this is their list of current inventory and my motto is "I just drink it, let them stock it":

You've heard of 1/4 kegs. You've heard of 1/2 kegs. Now there's a new size keg that is great news for draught beer lovers! The 1/6 keg or the 'sixtel'. This size keg is perfect for the home draught system. These kegs hold about 2 1/3 cases of beer or about 55 twelve oz. servings. Most 1/6 kegs are from craft breweries like Victory and Weyerbacher. These mini kegs are the perfect size for many uses. Most craft beer in 1/2 kegs can run well over $100 and these mini kegs make draught beer affordable and Exton Beverage stocks many different kinds of 1/6's!
Check out what's in stock below! If it's not in stock we will reorder!!!

Give us a call at 610-363-7020 or e-mail us at extonbev@dplus.net if you would like to reserve one of these fine beers.

To further enhance the "longest"ness of my post, I'll add a list of their Specialty Beers:

SPECIALTY BEERS
Exton Beverage Company has a huge list of beers with more arriving every week, it seems. We would like to list all the beers we have in stock, but we feel that listing everything would be a waste of time and space. Therefore we decided to list beers that are not so mainstream, so to speak. Exton Beverage Company carries almost all the major brands of beer, such as the Bud, Miller, and Coors brands. If you cannot seem to find what you're looking for or need a price, simply call or e-mail us at extonbev@dplus.net and we'll be happy to help you. We cannot list pricing for beer because of frequent price changes. If we happen to be out of stock of any of the items we have listed, let us know, we will be happy to order more. Happy beer hunting.

we don't smoke!
we don't drink!
Norfolk! Norfolk! Norfolk!

best when yelled like a cheer

obJECT or OBject.
SUBject or subJECT.

Our pencils shade,
meanings fade,
away from black and white.

Try seeing with your ears,
hearing with your heart,
touching with your mind,
smelling with your intuition,
tasting with your touch,
thinking with your soul.

It's worth a try.

Poem by ring
September, 2008

Hey Otto, that reminds me of a song, "You don't smoke, you don't drink. what do you do?"

I remember Adam and the Ants singing that, I don't remember if they wrote it though.

BadNick 09-20-2008 11:04 AM

MOAB,
I think if we took a poll here...maybe we should make this democratic and actually have a vote...I believe that most people would vote that your insensitive, dictatorial posts in this thread are much more of a turnoff to participation than any poem or haiku or other personal preference of other posters. There could be a fine line between free expression and unnecessarily hurtful comments and IMO you crossed the line. I think I understand your feeling of investment in getting this thread to be longest ever, but your bullying is getting me pissed off and has almost put a damper on my own attraction to this thread; but I've endured because of other people here who I like....including you when you're not a bully. It's never too late to change and be more open to others.

jewels 09-20-2008 11:19 AM

I love poetry no matter how you define it.

I love pictures, silliness and Chicken Little.

I love randomness. If randomness is important, why would one miss haiku comments?

Romance feels good and is joyous, even to a voyeur.

Negativism is not inviting. Makes the family not want to visit often.

Life is too short to bitch.

Sometimes time doesn't move until one takes their eyes off the clock.

Some people are blindsided by unhappiness with themselves and feel better blaming it on others.

Some people just wanna dance and sing and kiss their screens.

This is NONSENSE, man! Let's get back to FUN!

I like eggs

ring 09-21-2008 10:38 AM

I adore eggs,
especially the dark yellow yolky goodness of a happy chicken egg.

I heard this Crosby Stills and Nash song three times in three days,
so I felt the need to share the lyrics.

Teach Your Children
by Graham Nash

You, who are on the road
Must have a code
That you can live by.
And so, become yourself
Because the past
Is just a goodbye.

Teach your children well
Their father's hell
Did slowly go by
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picks
The one you'll know by.
Don't you ever ask them why
If they told you, you would die
So just look at them and sigh
And know they love you.

And you (Can you hear and)
Of tender years (Do you care and)
Can't know the fears (Can you see we)
That your elders grew by (Must be free to)
And so please help (Teach your children)
Them with your youth (You believe and)
They seek the truth (Make a world that)
Before they can die (We can live in)

Teach your parents well
Their children’s hell
Will slowly go by
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picks
The one you’ll know by.

Don’t you ever ask them why
If they told you, you would cry
So just look at them and sigh
And know they love you.

I know you have been pleased that your cactus are doing well,
do you have room in your house to add anymore?

I remember the pictures you posted of your cactus,
and how did that futon you ordered ever work out?
If I remember correctly, you were not to pleased with it at first.

jewels and Jetee,
due to the nature of those youtube vids, I wonder if either of you ever listen to a regular radio show called Echoes? Around here it's on every night on WXPN Penn radio Echoes: Ambient Music on Public Radio ...I think you might enjoy it if you can get it on your local radio...or if you sign up at their site you can listen online.

Echoes was created in 1989, but the two people who created it started at Univ. of Penn when I was in college back in the early 70's. So back then it was unique on the radio and very "spaced out" so needless to say, I had to listen and trip on the sounds Echoes (radio program - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Thanks. It was a cool show, both the cars and the planes. The airplanes included a P-51 Mustang and this cool group of P-47's, these were the highlighted aircraft:

P-47 Thunderbolts (4)

B-25 Mitchell (3)

TBM-3 Avenger

FG-1D Corsair — Marine’s Dream

P-51D Mustang — Bald Eagle

P-40M Warhawk — The Jacky C II

SNJ-6 Texan

PBY-5A Catalina

Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX

U.S. Coast Guard Grumman J4F Widgeon Amphibian

I didn't get any great pics of the airplanes...my timing and settings were not right for aerial photos...I need more practice.

Among others, I took these two pics:

A random quote from a book.

Irish people have a highly developed appetite for magic.
Much of their lore concerns fairies- good and bad, large and small.

When you are in Ireland, it's wise to keep an open mind about fairies.
As one Irishman put it, "I dont' believe in fairies, but they're there."

When we are unable to find tranquility within ourselves, it is useless to seek it elsewhere.

a random quote from me: RANDOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

genuinegirly 09-22-2008 10:00 PM

"Small wonder artisnal jams are all the rage these days. The decorative jars contain preserves made with little batches of perfectly ripe fruit, meaning they have a naturally sweet taste you can't get from mass-produced spreads. So why not make them in your own kitchen? Early autumn, when temperatures are cooler, fall fruits are at their best, and holiday season is fast approaching (homemade preserves make lovely gifts), is an ideal time to try your hand." - Vegetarian Times October 2008

BadNick 09-23-2008 09:39 AM

Fast fact for us sausage lovers:

What was the world's longest sausage?

Asda Stores Plc. of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, UK wanted a sausage and J.J. Tranfield was just the man to make it. J.J. Tranfield spent October 27 to 29, 2000 putting together the world's longest sausage and when he was done the wiener measured 36.75 miles or 59.14 kilometers. Sorry, no picture of the world's longest sausage, Ourcrazymodern? ate it. But as a consolation prize, here's a little pic of quite a large one:

gg,
strangely enough...or not...a new pizza joint opened near my house a couple weeks ago...I think it's called Pappi's Pizza. So I got one last week and it was very good, so a couple days later I decided to try another variety of their pizzas, it was also very good. Now the connection to your meatlessness above is that they use only meatless sausage...even on their pies with pepperoni or chicken, the sausage is always meatless.

hehehe. Good one Jewels.
BadNick, perhaps the owner prefers the taste of soypperoni.

I found you a recipe so you can make your own.
Quote:

Veggeroni (Seitan Pepperoni)

Dry ingredients:

1 1/4 cup vital wheat gluten
1/4 cup nutritional yeast
3/4 teaspoon salt
2-3 teaspoons Spanish smoked paprika
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (use more for spicier pepperoni)
3/4 teaspoons mustard seeds
1 teaspoon fennel seeds
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder

Wet ingredients:

2 tablespoons cashew butter (may substitute peanut butter or tahini)
2/3 cup water
4 tablespoons ketchup or tomato sauce
1 teaspoon Liquid Smoke
1/4 teaspoon agave nectar (optional, but definitely use if you use tomato sauce)

Preheat oven to 325 F. Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl. Put the cashew butter in a smaller bowl, and slowly mix in the water. Add the remaining wet ingredients to the small bowl and blend well.

Pour the wet mixture into the dry, stirring well (use your hands if necessary). Remove from the bowl and knead for a few minutes, making sure ingredients are distributed well.

Roll into a log shape, about 7 inches long. Place the log on foil and roll it up in the foil, twisting the ends to seal. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes, turning over after 45 minutes.

Remove from oven and unwrap to cool. Slice as needed and store leftovers wrapped in plastic wrap in the fridge.

Notes:

This fit perfectly in my toaster oven, so I didn't have to heat up the whole kitchen.

I sliced it and used it as-is on pizza, pita pizza, wraps, and sandwiches, but you may want to slice it and pan-fry it to give it more of a real pepperoni feel.

My two boys and I are usually very carnivorous, but whenever we stroll down South Steet in Philly, we end up at Maoz. They're a chain started in Philly so this is their first place, I've heard of others in Europe, like Amsterdam, and they're starting to expand around the U.S...but this is the only one I've been in. Everything at Maoz tastes great and is all vegetarian...the best falafel, all sorts of great toppings and dressings; I get it stuffed into a pita bread with garlic yogurt dressing, fried eggplants and califlower, couscous, some of almost every topping.

Sounds quite decadent.

I enjoy making my own falafel and tahini sauce. I make up a big batch of batter and freeze it pre-formed into patties to cook up quick.

GG's Falafel:
(makes ~16 2" diameter patties, feeds 4-6)
1 Can garbanzo beans/chickpeas, puree in a food processor or blender
1/2 large yellow onion, diced
4 Tablespoons baking flour
1 Teaspoon baking powder
1 Tablespoon crushed red pepper
1 Teaspoon cumin or curry powder
Mix in bowl. Form into patties or balls. Freeze a minimum of 10 minutes before frying, so they maintain their shape.

Tahini Sauce is quick and easy. All you need is:
Dash of Dill
1/2 cucumber, diced
1 small container plain yogurt

We always have pita bread and salad greens on hand to enjoy.

gg, I'll try that since I'm drooling now :)

Talk about pita bread and salad greens on hand, yesterday for dinner we had spaghetti with some really really good tomato sauce and meatballs, but I wanted a salad with it; so I wouldn't have to juggle two plates while I read the newspaper while eating, I stuffed a Greek salad with feta into a pita bread and ate that with my spaghetti....what a very convenient salad holder! I'll do that one again.
