Hello morning driveby posts!

BadNick 08-19-2008 07:43 AM

It seems like it's been the longest time since my last post.

I bet if they just started hugging the boredom would be greatly reduced.

I had Original flavor Sun Chips for breakfast...though I also like popcorn with coffee.

ring 08-19-2008 07:59 AM

I meant to say affectedly...

I kinda like my popcorn a few days old.
I love the extra al dente chewing process.

Fuck.

Happy Birthday, Eso. You're still so young with a long and fun-filled life to look forward to, I hope you enjoy your pleasureable birthday experiences....excuse my "still so young" comment, but since you are substantially younger than my baby girl daughter, to me you are still a very young man.

I've baked this cake for other birthday folks here, so excuse my repetition, but this is one of my favorite cakes so I hope you enjoy it, too:

We could all glide effortlessly upon Sade's silky voice.

I feel the dog days of Summer's torpor.

The shifting angle of the sun, stirs a desire to gather and secure enough tasty sustenance,
for the long frozen, barren, ( yet beautiful ) season that is just a few whiles into future's horizon.

I only have my wandering train of thoughts.

Perhaps a variety of trains will bring our beloved Zooks home again.

"questionable" longest fact I found: The Longest Train in The World
The train from Nouadhibou to Zouerat in Mauritania is the longest train in the world. The iron ore train carry thousands of tons of crushed rock in a chain of wagons up to three kilometres long.

3km = 1.86 miles....I say questionable but I mean b.s. since I was landing in Omaha NE to visit the Union Pacific RR for business, and the train I saw heading out of the Powder River Basin coal fields was many more miles long than a mere 1.86.

One of my longest lasting and recurrent fantasies is to someday have a home
where 9 0f the 11 rooms are filled with books and I get to climb up those lovely
wooden rolling ladders.

The smell of books is the headiest perfume imaginable.

I also love being a nomad,
either by choice, or unforseen circumstance.

I have moved 37 times since I was born,
and I have not even left the U.S.

I kinda miss Virginia,
they have excellent trees, beaches,
and many little peninsulas to explore.

Happy Belated Birthday Eso!

I am recalling a screen shot that Jetee put up a while ago
that had many lovely spiritual essences about it....
ahh...the vagaries of memory,
I find it both frustrating and amusing when trying
to access an elusive one.

Peace and Joy eveyone,
oh, and fun mischief also!

BadNick 08-27-2008 11:25 AM

I went tubing down the Brandywine River yesterday with my two boys and one of their friends. It was a gorgeous sunny day, but not too hot...mid 80's and moderate humidity. Being in the water up on a tube was refreshing. We saw a lot of turtles, all sorts of birds, various kinds of fish since the river is quite clear and clean. Since the water level is not real high this time of year (except after a large storm) I chose the 2 hr. float vs. a longer one, especially since they told me it would take longer than usual since the current was slower....a couple times the boys acted like this was the longest tube ride ever in the history of the world, but I found it very relaxing. I got a hoot out of that...OK, I'm playing my own straight man since we ate late lunch at Hooters on the way home.

Jetée 08-27-2008 11:28 AM

I'd like some Hooters... but more so the food found at Hooter's.

^...actually, I just thought of a way to make this an even longer post since that reminds me of "PA Live Steamers" which is a club around here where I've been a few times since I have a couple friends who are members; members build small scale trains and their club property has a couple different guage tracks to allow running the model trains. I believe that adult men need to do this. The kids love riding around on the trains...well the adults do, too. So this is PA Live Steamers:

2 T. melted butter

2 T sugar
2 t baking powder
1/4 t. salt

mix the dry stuff, mix the wet stuff, combine, and make pancakes.

ring 08-29-2008 10:08 AM

Back in 1982 as a youngster I worked a hot dog- pretzel cart in downtown San Francisco.

The name of the company was Stanley Steamers.

The owner was originally from New York City.
Those were the most excellent hot dogs and polish sausages I have ever had.

That is when I learned to appreciate saurkraut and mustard.

I would post some pics of trains if I could.

Some of my fondest memories are of traveling from coast to coast of the U.S
by train.

I was fortunate enough to eat pancakes on the train as it followed
the Mississippi river in Minnesota.

My fellow passengers and I saw dozens of Bald Eagles that early magical morning.

Happy weekend to all!

In another Most Illustrious Thread here at TFP...and obviously I refer to the "Where in the World Am I?" thread, TullyMars made a fantastic "longest" revelation that I feel compelled to share with all you Longest Folks:

The Pangalanes is a chain of sweet water lakes and lagoons parallel to the coast of the Indian Ocean, separated by a narrow stretch of land. The lakes are connected by a man-made channel system that forms an inland waterway from Tamatave through to Farafangana, making it the longest canal in the world covering a distance of 600km.

edit: as one of my most heart-felt gestures toward energy conservation, I just realized that I can make this a "3-fer" by using the word "Farafangana" above in the "sounds naught but isn't thread"!

Damn, this is further strong proof that the universe is just so interconnected it blows our minds.
