Damn... given the millions of islands in Canada I thought this might be a little tougher.
These were going to be my hints... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...1/39a0faf8.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...1/fbcc52ac.jpg I have an idea. Let's call off the dispute. Denmark gives us Nancy and we give them Hans Island. |
Excellent idea! I wonder where the Harper Government stands on this?
Meanwhile: http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...osts/pic42.jpg |
That's the UFO landing pad at St. Paul, Alberta.
I wrote a script that featured this location... It was a Centennial project by the way... you can see part of the Centennial maple leaf in garden left of the picture. |
You are correct. Nanoo, nanoo.
|
|
Leftwingx... That's Calgary. The thing is, you have to guess right before you get to post a picture.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...1/382f4d9e.jpg |
Lucky for me, I was there just this Sunday, enjoying the early spring weather! It's the Riverdale Necropolis and Cemetary (just north of Riverdale Farm) in Cabbagetown.

It is somewhere along King St?
(#504 = King Streetcar route) |
There are three major streets upon which the 504 streetcar travels...
|
I'm with Flyman on this one, I googled till I could not google anymore!
|
I can't give more of a clue than I gave... one of the streets and an obvious keyword spits it out of google
|
Checked out the mural, 20 mins of google searchin brought up this: http://www.hamiltonpostcards.com/ima...tel3Layer1.jpg
The Royal Connaught hotel? looks about right. also found this http://www.peregrine-foundation.ca/W...St/webcam.html a live webcam lookin at some peregrine nest. Dark when I saw it but maybe interesting later on btw if I get this plz can someone else post a picture? I've got none but I can't stand not guessing |
"The 504 King streetcar operates as a U-shaped route running from Dundas West Station, south on Dundas Street. It parts company with the Dundas Streetcar at Dundas and Roncesvalles and runs down Roncesvalles, past East European restaurants and stores within a long-established neighbourhood to Queen Street. There the King Car runs onto King Street and heads southeast and east through Parkdale, the Fashion District, the Entertainment District and downtown Toronto, making connections with the University and Yonge Subways. After passing between some of the tallest buildings in Toronto, the streetcar enters the old Town of York, angling northeast to meet Queen Street again. After a short jog on Queen, the King car turns north onto Broadview Avenue, meeting the Dundas Streetcar at Dundas Street, passing through Chinatown East and alongside Riverdale Park before ending its journey at Broadview Station."
I've searched a little with Dundas, Queen, Broadview Ave, and Roncesvalles. I kept gettin hung up with the mural on the side of the Sun building. The very right side of that mural is thematically the same; a 504 streetcar with a woman and baby carraiage. I wondered if I was looking at conceptual pictures and the final product. but then I found this picture from a google, from someone's flickr. http://www.flickr.com/photos/natalieb/91042888/ and decided it was a mural on or near Roncesvalles, somewhere in the Roncesvalles neighborhood at the least. So I stole this from someone's webshots, described as "A mural on a wall somewhere along Roncesvalles. 28 May 2005 by rmadisonwi [Webshots Premium Member]" http://image40.webshots.com/41/6/67/...5QVWsaM_ph.jpg Neither like direct linking images. http://community.webshots.com/photo/...48480006QVWsaM |
Bossnass has it close enough... the last image should have led you to the address (i.e. Jac's Milk at 211 Roncesvalles Ave.).
Game on! |
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...kescangrey.jpg
The original picture was pretty beat up and sun faded out, so it was scanned into grey. Someday I plan on finding the original film and reprinting. *Not part of the "Bossnass-only-has-digital-pics-of-his-trip-down-east-last-summer" series. Previously not posted because it may be impossible. But I like the picture.* |
any hints forthcoming?
|
Hint the first. In giffy goodness. Perhaps a google giveaway.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...s/lakehint.gif edit- now with img tags! |
Mount Doom?
|
Although I was barefoot (and I have a little hair on my feet) quite often the summers I spent there, its closer to the Dead Marshes than Mt Doom.
|
Is this Pine Lake?
edit: ya looking at the date of your hint, this has to be Pine Lake. |
Yep. I thought this might have been a little harder. The hint is of the supercell that was forming - it was july 14th and the ground was aroud 30 degrees, but looking at that satelite image there were some very cold spots forming.
I spent every summer from when I was 16 until 23 at Pine Lake. I partly didn't want to post, because everytime I say "Pine Lake" someone says 'oh yeah, where that tornado hit'. I don't want to reinforce that idea, but it was the easiet hint. Game on Leto. edit.... I wanted to post a couple more pics from the same view point. Midnight, and post thunderstorm. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2.../Full-Moon.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...ss/Rainbow.jpg |
I had forgotten about the Pine Lake Tornado. Cool hint Bossnass!

Great! I get the same deal with Barrie, because I grew up there, and we had a big twister back in the 80's. But I also remember Hinton Alta for a train derailment, and Haggersville Ont. for a tire fire. Ok.... off to find a decent pic. Here: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...0/c782ad40.jpg |
Is that the King Edward Hotel?
|
Quote:
It is indeed. I have had more than a few business lunches in it's Cafe Victoria. I worked in the building next door, and I remember when our offices were flooded with teenaged girls who mistook our build for the King Eddy, and were looking for the that amazing pop sensation, "The New Kids On The Block" who were staying there. http://toronto.com/hotels/listing/000-127-293 The nearly century-old King Eddy's guest books contain the names of some of the most famous figures: Rudyard Kipling, Mark Twain and The Beatles. The hotel opened in 1903 as the King Edward, built by George Gooderham -- at the time, the richest man in Toronto. The interior includes massive marble columns and a skylight in the lobby. The exterior was completed in French Renaissance style using terra-cotta trimmings. In 1928, a new wing was added, including a nine-storey tower rising above the original eight-storey structure. The hotel was designated as a historical site in 1975 and closed in 1979 for a $25 million restoration. It re-opened in 1981. And its old-world charm can still be found at the Cafe Victoria. GAME ON CHARLATAN |

Firefighter Memorial, Maple Leaf Quay ...in, let me guess...Toronto?
|
That was a gimmie... I just liked the look of the memorial.
|
Where did I take this?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...f0028small.jpg |
Hazelton, BC?
|
That or the exit off of the Stewart highway.
I'm half tempted to think that it is a river marker, if it didn't look so much like a roadsign. |
Yeah, Cranberry junction seems too close, but it may be just outside kitwancool.
|
oh, so close....you're in the right area.
|
Terrace, BC?
|
Game on Charlatan, Terrace it is..er was.
|
|
top of the world highway, yukon.
|
wow, did you take that pic Charlatan?
|
That is a sweet picture! There's a highway near Banff that looks similar. When I was pretty young (10 or something) and my family would drive out to Banff National Park once in awhile and we would drive across this particular road that was friggin narrow (much smaller than 2 lane road) and on either side was the lake. Can't remember it, but that's the first thing I thought of when I saw that picture
|
Quote:
...and no, I didn't take that picture. I wish I had though. |
More specific? The border crossing on the Top of the World Highway. Perhaps looking into Yukon?
"The border, known as Little Gold Creek in Canada and Poker Creek in the U.S., features one of the few jointly-built single building customs ports of entry along the Canada-U.S. border." |
I want the name of the pass, there is more than one.
|
Is this White pass? The one Klondike gold rushers arriving in Skagway, Alaska had to hike over with tons of gear?
|
Game on Fresnelly...
The other pass is the Chilcoot Pass. |
Cool. I might post one of my photos of the area from our road trip in August, though they don't do it justice. It was like being on the fricken moon.
Anyways, this shouldn't be too hard. Hint: This is not in Winnipeg. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...posts/pi_4.jpg |
Supreme Court of Canada in Ottawa
|
Game on, Charlatan!
|
|
Red Deer. St. Mary's. Three blocks from my wife's parent's house. I used to think that I had been baptized there, but the whole 'it being a catholic church' thing seems to negate that.
|
that was fast...
Game on! |

THe bat is in Edmonton... I just don't know where in Edmonton.
|
The parking lot at Telus Field?
|
It is located in Edmonton at 97th Avenue and 118th Avenue
|
I gotta get the new digi cam out this summer....go on some road trips and see if you guys can find me!
|
what is the significance of the Bat?
|
Charlatan: One of those addresses has to be on a street, rather than an Avenue. Otherwise, they'll never meet.
|
97th Street and 118th Avenue. It was donated by a local business and is actually made out of aluminum. Community spirit building and monumentalizing, there is a business assosiation in town that is trying to turn 118th into the "Avenue of Champions". Future plans include a giant hockey stick. No, I am not kidding. There are also a bunch of sports themed murals along 118th ave, and there are sports silouettes on the lightposts.
Charlatan was close enough, so game on. |

Charlatan, that is Mackenzie House on Bond Street, right next to the St Mike's hospital.
|
Game on Leto.
In know some of you are thinking, "Bob and Doug MacKenzie have their own Heritage House?" I am sure somewhere in Brampton they do. But this one is not theirs. MacKenzie House Situated in downtown Toronto, Mackenzie House is a Greek Revival row-house, which was purchased by the community for Mackenzie who was the first Mayor of Toronto, an outspoken newspaper editor and leader of the 1837 Upper Canada Rebellion. Explore the museum, the recreated printshop and gallery featuring changing exhibitions. Enjoy several celebrations of Toronto's Scottish heritage including Hogmanay, scotch tasting, and Robbie Burns Day or visit the museums on the Doors Open Toronto weekend. Some clues I was going to give: http://www.bartowel.com/pics/rebellion.gifhttp://www.toronto.ca/culture/images...zie_photos.jpg |
If I have my MacKenzies right, he's buried in the Riverdale cemetary, which Charlatan posted a pic of a page or two ago.
|
I think you are right.
|
Wonderful Charlatan, who's the girl in the pic? Anybody close to you?
How about that Upper Canada Rebellion beer? I used to buy it, but didn't think that it was still available... here is my next pic: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...0/0b052e54.jpg |
Moss Park Armoury at the corner of Queen East and Jarvis.
I was going to post pics of this... I drive by it on the way to work everyday. By the way, Upper Canada Rebellion was a very good beer. They discontinued it. The Fools!!! |

That's the one. Game on Fresnelly!

This is actually an artist's rendition, but it's based on actual images:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...osts/wreck.jpg |
What a thing to display right before SOME OF US HAVE TO GO TO WORK ON THESE THINGS!!!!! JESUS, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU THINKING!!!!!!!
the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I've actually been over this a few times, and I've been on Superior in the Gales of November! |
Yeah, I was wondering if I was crossing some sort of superstition or other. You got it!
|
Hahahaha... too funny Lucifer.
OK maybe not... |
I'm really superstituous about the wreck. I can't stand to hear the song.
Carrying on with Fresnelly's theme of Places I Hope I Don't Go This Summer, here is one of my favourites: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ssthismofo.jpg |
Is that island sinking or my eyes screwing with me??
|
The island is not sinking, that's the way it is. Which is a pretty honkin big clue too. And it's a cast iron bitch to get in around the shoals to that stone dock when your ship is 750' long.
|

Wow thats a big ass boat..... Oh and I have no idea where that is! |
