Leto 11-02-2006 09:02 AM

is that Osoyos?

Daval 11-02-2006 10:29 AM

I don't know this one, but noticed that Charlatans post is #2000 great thread this, congratulations everyone.

Leto 11-02-2006 11:27 AM

cool. And coming from a Mod, this means that we are using the application in a good way!

( I still say that pic is interior BC, like Osoyos or Penticton)

Charlatan 11-02-2006 02:42 PM

Game on Leto...

I figured putting it on Splk's doorstep would give him something to chew on... Looks like Toronto wins again!

splck 11-02-2006 06:14 PM

LOL, nice easy one and I'm stuck on a damn ferry to the island.

splck 11-03-2006 04:42 PM

Ahh, back home after yet another trip to the Island...damn BC ferries.

Granville street bridge? thanks for the soft pitch Leto

Leto 11-03-2006 08:34 PM

surprisingly, this is Not the Granville street bridge.

-- my brother just sold his place in Gibson's taking his last trip on the Langdale ferry and is now in Haliburton Ont for about a month. But he intends to move back and get a place in Robert's creek....

splck 11-03-2006 10:33 PM

bah, burrard st bridge....

Roberts creek is a nice area of the sunshine coast, - the damn ferry. My sister lives on Bowen island, nice place, but dealing with the ferries sucks. Can you tell I'm sick of riding those boats? My job takes me to every single two-bit island out there...

Daval 11-06-2006 12:27 PM

splck 11-06-2006 01:04 PM

Campbell river it is.

Winter?
http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/9798/example1sk5.jpg

Fly 11-07-2006 05:34 AM

is that in prince george Sticky?

Sticky 11-07-2006 06:02 AM

Nope.
Here is a hint that can be used for almost any pic I post in this thread.
in Canada, I have been east, but I have only been west of Ontario once for one night.
It is unlikely, unfortunately for me, that any pic I post will be from the west.

I have to get there someday.

fresnelly 11-07-2006 06:13 AM

Way back in grade school, we went on a Bus-trip to Montreal and Quebec City. Somewhere along the way we went to an outdoor skating park, but have no idea exactly where it was. Am I on the right track?

Sticky 11-07-2006 06:34 AM

You are on the right tracks, however, like everywhere else in Canada if you go somewhere in the winter you are going to find a thousand places to skate.

Fly 11-08-2006 09:50 AM

winnipeg manitoba......?

last time i was there i was 10 so..........stab in the dark eh.

Sticky 11-08-2006 12:18 PM

A hint, part of it's name is one of Canada's great icon's.

Leto 11-08-2006 08:20 PM

Rideau Canal?

Sticky 11-09-2006 10:20 AM

nope.
Part of the name of the place is a prominent Canadian symbol (icon).

I am not going to be around for a few days so here is a spoiler
Spoiler: spoiler content removed

Sticky 11-13-2006 06:15 AM

No bites?
I am removing what is under the spoiler above.

OK another hint, the Canadian icon that U was talking about is the beaver.

aberkok 11-13-2006 07:06 AM

Beaver Lake, Montreal?

Sticky 11-13-2006 08:01 AM

Yes sir.

I wonder if it was a stumper or just lack of participation.

aberkok 11-13-2006 08:12 AM

Where is this?

Daval 11-13-2006 08:34 AM

Kingston Ontario?

aberkok 11-13-2006 08:48 AM

I'll need something more specific than that, but you're on the right track!

Fly 11-13-2006 08:52 AM

"Portsmouth Olympic Harbour"

aberkok 11-13-2006 11:08 AM

I was looking for Kingston Penitentiary (across the water), but it is Portsmouth Olympic Harbour. Game on Fly!!

Sticky 11-16-2006 06:17 AM

BC?.......

Leto 11-16-2006 02:29 PM

I dunno, looks too flat to be BC.... Maritimes? is it Sable Island?

Fly 11-17-2006 02:27 AM

that is actually a lake that the lighthouse is on.

it is in the east

.......and Sticky might not have made it this far into his western journies.

that's the hint of the day

DarkDymond 11-17-2006 04:49 PM

I am from Regina Saskatchewan

Fly 11-17-2006 06:35 PM

that is not where this is at.........

Fly 11-19-2006 05:37 AM

Charlatan 11-19-2006 05:53 AM

Fly 11-19-2006 06:48 AM

Leto 11-19-2006 12:19 PM

Fly 11-21-2006 10:46 AM

game on cdnjeepin

nicely done

cdnjeepin 11-21-2006 11:05 AM

Now this might be a little harder...I took the pic, you have to look on the east coast of canada..You have to hike to get to this spot or take a boat to the bottom of the "pond" and hike up to where we are..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...in/contest.jpg

Bossnass 11-21-2006 12:31 PM

Moraine Lake...near banff?

2nd guess is Sudbury

Bossnass 11-22-2006 08:09 AM

Well, it is in the Rocky Mountains, and it is in SW-ish Alberta, but not that close to Banff.

Notice the groomer tracks.

splck 11-22-2006 04:00 PM

I saw the groomer tracks, but the mountains don't look familiar. I thought maybe it was Xcountry skiing.

How about Marmot Basin?

splck 11-22-2006 04:00 PM

Bossnass 11-22-2006 05:09 PM

Not Marmot.

Signifcantly, not an Intrawest OR a RCR mountain.

splck 11-22-2006 06:08 PM

oh, Fortress?

Fly 11-22-2006 08:12 PM

and i thought the first lighthouse i posted was tough..........

Bossnass 11-22-2006 09:42 PM

Fortress it is. It was wonderfully/terribly windy some days. The snow blowing off the peaks is one of my favorite sights.

I spent in the neighborhood of 60 days a year on snow at the Fort for about 5 years in a row. While it doesn't have the vertical of Sunshine, Louise, or even Marmot, it did have a ton of snow, decent 'off-piste' territory (some of it in-bounds), and plenty of moguls. They used to be really good to us freestyle folk.

I haven't been since I moved to Edmonton (4.5 years ago), but I hear the new management hasn't done much good... yet.

splck 11-22-2006 10:35 PM

nothing wrong with the smaller hills if the snow is good.
Looks like fortress may go the same way the local ski hill out this way has gone...tits up.:|

There's still a lot to do before Fortress Mountain can open for another ski season.

The Canadian chair lift is still being serviced and assembled and hasn't passed final inspection.

The main lodge has been shut down by the fire commissioner and the health department for a long list of safety code violations.

Until they're fixed, no one is allowed inside.

oops, forgot to post new location..
WTF is this double post shit? Meh, it's like 24 hours later...whatever...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/splck/ert.jpg

Bossnass 11-23-2006 09:23 PM

Looks like Silverstar. Hard to say for sure; my first thought was Apex... The lack of real mountains and the flattened hills in the distance are pulling at some memories, but I just can't place it, other than interior.

splck 11-24-2006 06:28 AM

nope, none of the above.

Fly 11-24-2006 09:57 AM

i'm gonna say that is in smithers

Bossnass 11-24-2006 02:08 PM

I'm not sure how to proceed other than guessing. I still think its an interior BC hill. I've only been to panorama a couple times years ago, so I don't recognize anything. I could be very early or late season Fernie, but not quite.

Kimberly?

splck 11-24-2006 04:42 PM

not Smithers or Kimberly.
It's south west of kimberly.

Bossnass 11-24-2006 05:23 PM

Isn't Smithers way north? Like just inland from Prince Rupert?

There aren't a whole lot of places south of Kimberly... Fernie would be my first guess, but I know that is to the east of Kimberly without looking at a map. I've been to Apex, which is west of, and I think south of Kimberly, but I think you already took that as one of my guesses. I think Big White is more north too, but that could be the little village in your picture.

After a bit of looking at a map, I think it is Mt. Baldy.

splck 11-25-2006 09:56 AM

yeah, Smithers is way North.
This place is very close to the US border in the Kootenays. I thought you'd know it.

Bossnass 11-25-2006 10:43 AM

Damn, so did I. Several years of my life were devoted to being on snow.

Red Mountain? One of my coaches way back when was from Rossland too.

splck 11-25-2006 10:57 AM

there ya go, Red mountain. fantastic skiing there if you like steep shit and lots of snow (who doesn't?)
You're up.

Bossnass 11-26-2006 12:33 PM

I think I would have been depressed if I hadn't eventually got it.

Leto 11-27-2006 08:19 AM

Tim Horton's near Whitehorse?

Bossnass 11-27-2006 03:13 PM

Nope. The picture scaling is misleading... it would make one gigantic tims.

Leto 11-28-2006 05:43 AM

yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssss. it would.

Bossnass 11-28-2006 09:48 AM

This is in Alberta. You can buy coffee inside, at least I assume so.

Leto 11-29-2006 03:32 AM

jasper lodge?

Bossnass 11-29-2006 08:05 AM

It is kinda in the middle of nowhere. Sure, you could say the same thing about jasper, but this is even more in the middle of nowhere. A somewhat significant drive to anything sizable.

splck 11-29-2006 05:32 PM

the rim rock?

Bossnass 11-29-2006 06:43 PM

Banff is not in the middle of nowhere. Banff is one of the 'sizable' locations that you would have to drive to from the above posted picture.

Fly 12-02-2006 08:34 AM

damn that's a tough one Boss

-somewhat related to Banff, in that one of the places closest to it is Banff
-if anyone other than Fly or Splck was complaining, I'd be annoyed. It isn't a Toronto bridge.
