Game on Fresnelly.

Why did I only discover this game on page 58 or so? I played once on page 1 and then let 58 pages of goodness pass me by. If I stray again I implore you to drag me back in :)

Dave

fresnelly 07-28-2006 07:37 AM

Curious. My screen shows we're only on page 46. Are you from the future? Shouldn't you know all the answers then? :D

Next up:

Daval 07-28-2006 07:41 AM

I guess it depends on how many posts per page you have set as default.

Is that the Xerox Canada building in Mississauga?

fresnelly 07-28-2006 07:47 AM

Hmm. Good idea for a post, but no, it's not the Xerox submarine.

Leto 07-31-2006 07:37 AM

is this in the Yukon?

fresnelly 07-31-2006 08:57 AM

Nope. Farther south in a city besides Toronto that I've used before.

Daval 08-01-2006 12:20 PM

How's about a hint? :)

Leto 08-01-2006 01:20 PM

ya

i think saying farther south than the Yukon, is a bit of a broad hint eh? c'mon Fresnelly give it up!

fresnelly 08-01-2006 02:47 PM

Oh the suspense!

It's a tourist attraction/institution in Edmonton.

Bossnass 08-01-2006 05:22 PM

That's an old picture of the "Telus World of Science". Used to be the Odyssium. Before that, the Edmonton Space and Science Centre.

Quit it with the Edmonton stuff. I don't want to keep getting them then not having time to post.

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...tues_T3299.jpg

In Alberta too.

Also, although I had this picture on my hard drive, I'm not sure where I got it. The photographer's label has been removed.

fresnelly 08-02-2006 05:15 AM

Is that on Whyte Ave in front of the Varscona Theatre?

Bossnass 08-02-2006 05:24 PM

Solid guess, but different firehall in a different city.

(You probably meant the firefighter monument off of 83rd, by the New Theatre)

fresnelly 08-07-2006 06:05 AM

Uh, The firehall in Calgary? :D

Bossnass 08-07-2006 03:30 PM

Not in Calgary either.

Sticky 08-08-2006 11:20 AM

Red Deer
(under that white block it says Rolf Hicker)
http://www.hickerphoto.com/data/medi...tues_T3299.jpg

I am going to continue becuase as Bossnass stated he does not have that much time on his hands to post an image. Bossnass, correct me if I am wrong.

Here we go, next one:
http://img316.imageshack.us/img316/5568/example1bx8.jpg

Bossnass 08-08-2006 05:32 PM

Indeed, Red Deer it is.

The city (about 80k) has a series of 'ghosts' throughout the downtown. Bronze statues of historic local figures. Some pretty interesting ones, like a casual old man sitting on a bus stop bench. This is of the first fire brigade, outside the old firehall, now library.

Also, that faucet isn't at the waterpark at medicine hat is it?

Sticky 08-09-2006 05:38 AM

No, the faucet is not at a waterpark in MEDICINE HAT.

Bossnass 08-09-2006 04:58 PM

Then at Wild Rapids in Sylvan Lake?

Sticky 08-10-2006 07:42 AM

Nope,

hint (although I am not sure how much of a hint at this point): It is viewable from a highway as you drive by.

Leto 08-10-2006 11:02 AM

is it out west?

Bossnass 08-10-2006 06:39 PM

I'm pretty sure it is in the west. I'm certain I've seen it recently, but I remember vividly seeing it when I was younger. Then again, the floating faucet is probably not unique to any one waterpark.

Sticky 08-11-2006 05:17 AM

If you have seen it out west then it is not unique to one water park.
That I guess is hint #2 (i.e. it is not out west)

Leto 08-11-2006 07:44 AM

Wild Water Kingdom?

Sticky 08-11-2006 08:05 AM

Nope.

Here is another hint though:
This is a map of the Water Park

Leto 08-14-2006 12:31 PM

How about that one in Kitchener? Bingmans?

james t kirk 08-16-2006 07:30 PM

Confederation Beach in Hamilton

Leto 08-20-2006 06:34 AM

Yoo hoooo! Sticky??? are you out there? JTK, it doesn't look like the brochure that Conf. Park has.....

james t kirk 08-20-2006 07:07 AM

Blue Mountain in Collingwood then.

rmarshall 08-22-2006 09:39 AM

"the Piedmont Cascades d’eau! That giant faucet, next to the Laurentian Autoroute at Piedmont, is hard to miss! Jump into the water with us for the coolest summer adventure!"

I am very sorry about that folks. I dissapeared on vacation for two weeks. A couple of days from the end of my vacation the thought occured to me - Oh Shit I left the WHere and I thread hanging.

I am glad that rmarshall figured it out.

rmarshall, that looks like the area in fron of Places Des Arts in Montreal. You can see PVM in the background. This is proabably a Jazz fest pick.

Sticky 08-30-2006 08:37 AM

OK, I am going to assume I am correct and continue.

Newfoundland?

Daval 09-01-2006 08:58 AM

No, it is not Newfoundland

Sticky 09-01-2006 09:21 AM

Nice, I just cancelled off a whole provice in one question.

Let's try a little bit of science (I know nothing about science).
It looks to me like a sunset rather than a sunrise. It also looks like the sun would be off somewhere over the water horizon. If this is the case then the pic would have to be loking out west.

Somewhere in BC?

fresnelly 09-01-2006 09:41 AM

That looks like Lake water to me. Is it the Leslie Spit or the mouth of the Humber River on Lake Ontario?

Daval 09-01-2006 04:03 PM

No to BC. No to Leslie Spit and Humber Bay. Getting close though.....

fresnelly 09-02-2006 07:59 AM

Mouth of the Credit river? Snug Harbour in Port Credit?

Daval 09-05-2006 11:39 AM

Xerox Canada Lab. QEW and Winston Churchill in the state of Mississauga.

If I am indeed correct I would ask someone to take my turn as I am prepping for a trip to Chicago for a week and don't know if I'll be able to check in much as of Friday.

splck 09-07-2006 08:33 PM

Woohoo, after weeks of lurking and not know where the hell you guys were, I'll take the freebie.

Let's celebrate with a bridge. Almost the underside of a bridge.

well, other than this is a very difficult sight to guess..... I've got nothing here.... but just to remember a Canadian Hero, and in respect for tomorrow's runs/events, here's something that I stopped by in my travels before (it's not a turn, just a pause to reflect):

got it!

Thunder Bay, ON!

Now here's the deal, I don't have a pic to immediately submit, so I'll give my turn to someone else.

game on.....whoever!

fresnelly 09-18-2006 07:17 AM

Splck, I think you may have us stumped . :)

splck 09-18-2006 11:10 AM

Jeepers, it's not that hard.

Think Alberta...maybe look for a footbridge or a suspension bridge.

I know there are some good googlers here...don't let me down.

Sticky 09-18-2006 12:33 PM

The only search string that I did not try was "Suspension Bridge Alberta"

The Rosedale Suspension Bridge, Rosedale Alberta

Daval 09-18-2006 12:39 PM

I found that one too, but there is mountains in the background on that one, did you find a different angle?

Bring on the obscure storefront Sticky!

Sticky 09-19-2006 06:36 AM

Here you go, a not so obscure storefront.
This is a really easy one so you will have to be really specific.

Sticky 09-20-2006 07:03 AM

nope

Let me know if it is too hard or if people are just not playing
(actually if people are not playing then they won't see this and they won't be able to tell me).

Daval 09-20-2006 07:57 AM

any chance of a full size picture? My screen is too damn small to see these small ones :P

fresnelly 09-20-2006 10:22 AM

Is it some (in)famous Montreal Strip club?

aberkok 09-20-2006 10:23 AM

Supersexe!!! ...in Montreal... St. Catharine St. (anyone growing up in or around Montreal knows thats where your mom works)

Where is this?

I was going to give only the front view but I though it was too hard.

Sticky 09-22-2006 07:35 AM

Maybe some help is needed?

Here are some other angles:

The top view of the lawn and the statue on the lawn.
http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/977/statwindgt8.jpg

A close up of the statue
http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/8649/statuelq6.jpg

I will give you guys another try.

fresnelly 09-22-2006 08:40 AM

That statue looks to me like Emily Carr, but this house is neither her childhood home or the Emily Carr Institute. Is that her?

Sticky 09-22-2006 08:59 AM

hint the statue is not Emily Carr.

Just kidding, the hint is that the statue is a man.

Sticky 09-25-2006 04:52 AM

Alright, the person the statue is of is also a doctor.

Leto 09-25-2006 07:03 AM

this I believe, is the Dr Frederick Banting house in London Ontario.

Canadian Dr's Frederick Banting and Charles Best were credited with discovering Insulin.

(thanks for the hint, it had to be Bethune, Best or Banting.... )

additional edit: i found a good descriptive link on this site:

http://www.diabetes.ca/Section_About/bantingIndex.asp

with a brief excerpt:

Banting House National Historic Site celebrates not only a great Canadian discovery, but the life and career of a truly great Canadian - Sir Frederick Grant Banting (1891-1941).

At Banting House National Historic Site you can step back into history to experience one of the great moments of medical science in the twentieth century - the discovery of insulin - a moment that signified new hope for diabetes sufferers the world over.

Okay, Sticky, since I think I've nailed this, I will post the next pic:

The under side of.... ????

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...0/52c36266.jpg

Daval 09-25-2006 07:19 AM

Would that be a lift lock in the Trent Severn Waterway? Possibly in the Peterborough area?

Leto 09-25-2006 07:41 AM

i think that you are close enought to keep this thread moving. It is indeed the underside of the Peterborough Liftlock on the Trent-Severn.

Game on Daval!

(here is the shot from above, these were taken in July)
