Lucifer 03-28-2007 03:34 AM

It's not my residence, nor is it near St. John's, but it is in Newfoundland.

Leto 03-28-2007 06:42 AM

I'm trying to guess the significance. googling "grounded ship newfoundland"

HeyAgain 03-29-2007 02:31 AM

Harbour Grace, Newfoundland

If I'm correct, can someone else post another photo since I don't login that often.

Lucifer 03-29-2007 04:24 AM

You're partly right. What's the name of the ship and it's significance. Leto, you are on the right track.

splck 03-29-2007 06:18 AM

It's the SS Kyle and it grounded in 1967 after a storm.

Lucifer 03-29-2007 07:07 AM

good job, splck! Game on!

Leto 03-29-2007 09:53 AM

isn't that an expensive loss? Why doesn't a salvager load it up onto some kind of "land barge" and haul it to sea to reuse?

splck 03-30-2007 05:53 AM

An easy one...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/splck/huh14.jpg

Leto 03-30-2007 08:26 AM

Hell's Gate?

splck 03-30-2007 03:57 PM

See how easy that was...game on Leto

Leto 04-01-2007 07:44 PM

Wow, I didn't expect to get that.... it was once again, taken right out of my ass... My earlier post of the same place, didn't even have the bridge in it yet.

okay, onother dead simple one:

Daval 04-02-2007 05:13 AM

fresnelly 04-02-2007 11:40 AM

Does it have anything to do with a Trans-Atlantic flight?

Lucifer 04-02-2007 12:15 PM

do you have a guess or not?

fresnelly 04-02-2007 12:22 PM

Botwood Newfoundland, in the Bay of Exploits where Charles Lindbergh began his flight to Ireland in 1937?

Lucifer 04-02-2007 12:23 PM

No, but you are on the right track.

Leto 04-03-2007 04:49 AM

to me, it looks like a monument to whales or whaling.

Lucifer 04-03-2007 05:44 AM

No. Fresnelly was the right track.

fresnelly 04-03-2007 08:58 AM

The crash site of Arrow Air Flight 1285 in Gander?

Lucifer 04-03-2007 09:22 AM

Gander is one of the few places in this province which isn't on the coast. As this photo is on the coast, your guess isn't right. Your first two guesses were warmer.

fresnelly 04-03-2007 09:40 AM

OK, How about Francesco De Pinedo from Trepassey, Newfoundland to the Azores in a twin engine Savoia-Marchetti in 1927.

Francesco De Pinedo flew from Trepassey, Newfoundland to the Azores in a twin engine Savoia-Marchetti in 1927 from the Azores to Trepassy.

Also where Captains Hermann Köhl and James Fitzmaurice, and Baron Ehrenfried Günther von Hünefeld made the first flight from East to West on April 12-13, 1928 in a Junkers single wing plane.

Lucifer 04-03-2007 10:00 AM

Dude, you are so close, I'm tempted to give it to you. But, no. You are definately on the right track. It's a monument to trans-atlantic flights from a specific town in Newfoundland. A lot of early trans-atlantic flights left from this town.

HeyAgain 04-04-2007 05:36 PM

Biscay Bay?

Lucifer 04-04-2007 06:12 PM

that's not the name of the town.

HeyAgain 04-08-2007 05:11 AM

Hints Please:

Is the town located on the Avalon Peninsula?

If so, is the town located on the northern or southern end of the peninsula?

Lucifer 04-08-2007 06:28 AM

It's sort of in the middle of the Avalon Penninsula. Honestly people, if you google some of Fresnelly's replies and Newfoundland, it's on the first page to pop up.

splck 04-09-2007 02:08 AM

is it Trepassey Bay?

Lucifer 04-12-2007 10:02 AM

That's in the South of the Avalon Penninsula, not the North. I'm giving up on you guys, seeing as I'm off to sea again. The answer here, like the other photo I posted not to long ago, is Harbour Grace, Newfoundland. The monument is too honour the amazing number of trans-atlantic attempts in flight. Go here for more info: harbour grace airstrip

Game on to the next person to post a photo

Leto 04-13-2007 11:52 AM

I didn't want to monopolize the responses, but man, it's hard to get more involvment... there must be more canuckians out there reading this...

OK, how about this one:

Leto 04-19-2007 04:50 AM

I guess we don't have a captive audience on this thread...

Daval 04-19-2007 05:41 AM

gimme a hint, lets get this thread back :)

Leto 04-19-2007 06:59 AM

I just gave a hint...but I guess it was rather guarded. let's just say that this location is confined to Ontario.

hagatha 04-19-2007 08:37 AM

Kingston Penitentary?

Leto 04-19-2007 09:31 AM

Oh Hagatha, you're on the right track and so close I should give it to you as a bonus for joining our game (welcome!).

So in case you are wondering how, you need to put a pic (somewhere in Canada) in a site like photobucket, then paste the IMG tag here in your next post.

Game On Hagatha! (the actual prison is Milhaven Pen which is a few Km out of Kingston).

Daval 04-19-2007 12:21 PM

woo, new blood.

I totally missed the hint, I thought you were just being whiny :)

Leto 04-19-2007 01:40 PM

i hate the way everybody thinks I'm whiny....

hagatha 04-19-2007 04:41 PM

Okay peeps, here it is
http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k5...guesswhere.jpg

HeyAgain 04-20-2007 04:16 AM

Any chance you have a close-up of the top part of the statue?

Leto 04-20-2007 05:15 AM

I was going to go with the Brock memorial...

hagatha 04-20-2007 06:34 AM

Dang Leto you got it! its the Issac Brock statue in Queenston.

I know the winner gets to post, but can I try again? I think this one might be more challenging.....

Leto 04-20-2007 12:23 PM

ya go for it hagatha, I don't have any pics handy....

hagatha 04-20-2007 12:34 PM

Okay, lets try this one:

splck 04-20-2007 04:05 PM

Niagara-on-the-Lake? I'm not sure what the clock tower name is.

hagatha 04-21-2007 09:05 AM

Dang again, you guys are just too Canadian . You got it splck.

splck 04-22-2007 03:15 PM

Queenston Bridge?

Sticky 04-23-2007 08:02 AM

Johnson Street Bridge - Victoria

Leto 04-23-2007 12:32 PM

oh? cool. Is that the Gorge?

Sticky 04-23-2007 01:35 PM

I am just guessing, I really don't know for sure.
splck will have to answer

splck 04-23-2007 03:54 PM

Yup, Johnson street bridge (or some such funky name) in Victoria at the beginning of the Gorge.

You're up Sticky.

Leto 04-24-2007 03:16 AM

ya, i remember partying beside the gorge, and consuming a pound of Roger's Chocolates there too...

Sticky 04-24-2007 05:28 AM

http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/6171/example4rx4.jpg

hagatha 04-24-2007 02:33 PM

Is that Hamilton Ontario?

Sticky 04-25-2007 05:30 AM

No. East of Ontario.

hagatha 04-25-2007 07:08 AM

The landscape looks like New Brunswick....am I closer?

Sticky 04-25-2007 07:15 AM

Nope.
This is a tough one.

Daval 04-25-2007 10:34 AM

Is that one of the bridges along hwy 20 in Quebec leading into Montreal in Dorion area?

Leto 04-25-2007 12:03 PM

It's hard to tell, I can't see the underside of that bridge....

Sticky 04-25-2007 01:11 PM

Daval - No

You are much closer though.

splck 04-25-2007 08:46 PM

Underside! Underside! Underside!

Daval 04-26-2007 04:27 AM

it looks familiar but I can't quite place it. Brockville or Cornwall?

Sticky 04-26-2007 07:57 AM

OK
Hint: Tourists to Montreal may have crossed it. It has no connection to how the tourist may have travelled to Montreal (car, bus, train, plane).

Daval 04-26-2007 10:12 AM

The bridge to the Montreal Casino.

Sticky 04-26-2007 12:14 PM

Daval you are the man
Pont Des Iles

Daval 04-26-2007 12:30 PM

I think this will be an easy one.

fresnelly 04-26-2007 12:33 PM

Todmorden Mills in the Don Valley, Toronto!

Daval 04-26-2007 12:38 PM

Bah, I knew that one would be too easy. I should of picked on of the other buildings.

Game on Fresnelly.

Daval 04-30-2007 04:57 AM

Fresnelly? We await your submission....

fresnelly 04-30-2007 05:40 AM

For some reason, I can't raise Photobucket to upload the photo. Hopefully sometime later this morning...

Edit. Here we go:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...ts/hallway.jpg

Leto 05-01-2007 08:07 AM

I was going to go with BCE Place? Near the Hockey Hall of Fame?

fresnelly 05-01-2007 11:37 AM

Nope and nope. This isn't in Toronto.

Another hint is that the distinctive outside shape of the building is silhouetted on the banners hanging in the picture.

Leto 05-01-2007 01:07 PM

is it in ottawa?

Daval 05-01-2007 01:29 PM

I'm guessing Montreal.....

fresnelly 05-01-2007 01:45 PM

It is in Ottawa. :)

james t kirk 05-01-2007 03:31 PM

The national Gallery?

fresnelly 05-02-2007 01:41 PM

JTK takes it!

james t kirk 05-02-2007 02:32 PM

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c5...6-10-20002.jpg

hagatha 05-02-2007 04:08 PM

Right city, wrong bridge.

splck 05-02-2007 09:03 PM

Prince Edward Viaduct:confused:

That's all I got.

Leto 05-03-2007 08:03 AM

that's not the Prince Edward (no susicide barrier, or subway running underneath) I have a feeling that this bridge is one that spans Wilket Creek at Sunnybrook Park, or Serena Gundy park. Is it the bridge on Eglinton near Leslie?

fresnelly 05-03-2007 08:56 AM

How about Don Mills over Taylor Creek?

james t kirk 05-03-2007 04:43 PM

Noop Noop and Noop

I'll give you a clue.....

It was built in 1924 I believe by the Toronto Works of Domion Bridge Company (may she rest in peace). She was built to accomodate a street car, but one was never installed there to the best of my knowledge.

It is a pinned arch - very text book.

She's been in the news very recently as well

Look closely, very closely at the concrete pier for a HUGE clue.....

Sticky 05-04-2007 08:14 AM

Bloor Bridge?
http://www.atl.ec.gc.ca/weather/hurr.../photos/51.jpg

Leto 05-04-2007 08:47 AM

would that be over the humber? near the Old Mill area?

james t kirk 05-04-2007 11:35 AM

Bloor over Humber is correct.

The blue line on the pier indicates the water level of the Humber River during Huricane Hazel in the 1950 that killed 80 or so people.

Sticky has it....

Leto 05-04-2007 12:07 PM

very cool.

Sticky 05-07-2007 05:26 AM

Sorry for the long delay

http://img78.imageshack.us/img78/2864/example1ik5.jpg

Daval 05-07-2007 07:08 AM

would that be Yorkdale Mall?

Sticky 05-07-2007 07:20 AM

Yes Sir. I thought it might be too easy.

Daval 05-07-2007 07:23 AM

I couldnt think of anywhere else that has such a freakishly busy parking lot.

What about IKEA on a Saturday afternoon???

I guess that is Flowerpot Island at Tobermory.

Sticky 05-07-2007 08:45 AM

Bay of Fundy?

Daval 05-07-2007 10:12 AM

Leto got it. Flowerpot Island it is. Game on. (and I absolutely refuse to go anywhere near Ikea on a weekend, its insane)

Mastadon77 05-07-2007 07:17 PM

thought I'd join in.

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...on77/407px.jpg

sorry if it's a little big....
