It's not my residence, nor is it near St. John's, but it is in Newfoundland.
I'm trying to guess the significance. googling "grounded ship newfoundland"
Harbour Grace, Newfoundland
If I'm correct, can someone else post another photo since I don't login that often. |
You're partly right. What's the name of the ship and it's significance. Leto, you are on the right track.
It's the SS Kyle and it grounded in 1967 after a storm.
good job, splck! Game on!
isn't that an expensive loss? Why doesn't a salvager load it up onto some kind of "land barge" and haul it to sea to reuse?
An easy one...

Hell's Gate?
See how easy that was...game on Leto
Wow, I didn't expect to get that.... it was once again, taken right out of my ass... My earlier post of the same place, didn't even have the bridge in it yet.
okay, onother dead simple one: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...0/images-3.jpg |
I've seen this in toronto near much music. no idea wtf it is though.

Does it have anything to do with a Trans-Atlantic flight?
do you have a guess or not?
Botwood Newfoundland, in the Bay of Exploits where Charles Lindbergh began his flight to Ireland in 1937?
No, but you are on the right track.
to me, it looks like a monument to whales or whaling.
No. Fresnelly was the right track.
The crash site of Arrow Air Flight 1285 in Gander?
Gander is one of the few places in this province which isn't on the coast. As this photo is on the coast, your guess isn't right. Your first two guesses were warmer.
OK, How about Francesco De Pinedo from Trepassey, Newfoundland to the Azores in a twin engine Savoia-Marchetti in 1927.
Francesco De Pinedo flew from Trepassey, Newfoundland to the Azores in a twin engine Savoia-Marchetti in 1927 from the Azores to Trepassy. Also where Captains Hermann Köhl and James Fitzmaurice, and Baron Ehrenfried Günther von Hünefeld made the first flight from East to West on April 12-13, 1928 in a Junkers single wing plane. |
Dude, you are so close, I'm tempted to give it to you. But, no. You are definately on the right track. It's a monument to trans-atlantic flights from a specific town in Newfoundland. A lot of early trans-atlantic flights left from this town.
Biscay Bay?
that's not the name of the town.
Hints Please:
Is the town located on the Avalon Peninsula? If so, is the town located on the northern or southern end of the peninsula? |
It's sort of in the middle of the Avalon Penninsula. Honestly people, if you google some of Fresnelly's replies and Newfoundland, it's on the first page to pop up.
is it Trepassey Bay?
That's in the South of the Avalon Penninsula, not the North. I'm giving up on you guys, seeing as I'm off to sea again. The answer here, like the other photo I posted not to long ago, is Harbour Grace, Newfoundland. The monument is too honour the amazing number of trans-atlantic attempts in flight. Go here for more info: harbour grace airstrip
Game on to the next person to post a photo |
I didn't want to monopolize the responses, but man, it's hard to get more involvment... there must be more canuckians out there reading this...
OK, how about this one: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...o_2000/mpk.jpg |
I guess we don't have a captive audience on this thread...
gimme a hint, lets get this thread back :)
I just gave a hint...but I guess it was rather guarded. let's just say that this location is confined to Ontario.
Kingston Penitentary?
Oh Hagatha, you're on the right track and so close I should give it to you as a bonus for joining our game (welcome!).
So in case you are wondering how, you need to put a pic (somewhere in Canada) in a site like photobucket, then paste the IMG tag here in your next post. Game On Hagatha! (the actual prison is Milhaven Pen which is a few Km out of Kingston). |
woo, new blood.
I totally missed the hint, I thought you were just being whiny :) |
i hate the way everybody thinks I'm whiny....
Okay peeps, here it is
http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k5...guesswhere.jpg |
Any chance you have a close-up of the top part of the statue?
I was going to go with the Brock memorial...
Dang Leto you got it! its the Issac Brock statue in Queenston.
I know the winner gets to post, but can I try again? I think this one might be more challenging..... |
ya go for it hagatha, I don't have any pics handy....
Okay, lets try this one:

Niagara-on-the-Lake? I'm not sure what the clock tower name is.
Dang again, you guys are just too Canadian . You got it splck.
Queenston Bridge?
Johnson Street Bridge - Victoria
oh? cool. Is that the Gorge?
I am just guessing, I really don't know for sure.
splck will have to answer |
Yup, Johnson street bridge (or some such funky name) in Victoria at the beginning of the Gorge.
You're up Sticky. |
ya, i remember partying beside the gorge, and consuming a pound of Roger's Chocolates there too...
Is that Hamilton Ontario?
No. East of Ontario.
The landscape looks like New Brunswick....am I closer?
Nope.
This is a tough one. |
Is that one of the bridges along hwy 20 in Quebec leading into Montreal in Dorion area?
It's hard to tell, I can't see the underside of that bridge....
Daval - No
You are much closer though. |
Underside! Underside! Underside!
it looks familiar but I can't quite place it. Brockville or Cornwall?
OK
Hint: Tourists to Montreal may have crossed it. It has no connection to how the tourist may have travelled to Montreal (car, bus, train, plane). |
The bridge to the Montreal Casino.
Daval you are the man
Pont Des Iles |
Todmorden Mills in the Don Valley, Toronto!
Bah, I knew that one would be too easy. I should of picked on of the other buildings.
Game on Fresnelly. |
Fresnelly? We await your submission....
For some reason, I can't raise Photobucket to upload the photo. Hopefully sometime later this morning...
Edit. Here we go: http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...ts/hallway.jpg |
I was going to go with BCE Place? Near the Hockey Hall of Fame?
Nope and nope. This isn't in Toronto.
Another hint is that the distinctive outside shape of the building is silhouetted on the banners hanging in the picture. |
is it in ottawa?
I'm guessing Montreal.....
It is in Ottawa. :)
The national Gallery?
JTK takes it!
Under the Rainbow Bridge, Niagara Falls?

Looks similar to a bridge over the Don Valley

Prince Edward Viaduct:confused:
That's all I got. |
that's not the Prince Edward (no susicide barrier, or subway running underneath) I have a feeling that this bridge is one that spans Wilket Creek at Sunnybrook Park, or Serena Gundy park. Is it the bridge on Eglinton near Leslie?
How about Don Mills over Taylor Creek?
Noop Noop and Noop
I'll give you a clue..... It was built in 1924 I believe by the Toronto Works of Domion Bridge Company (may she rest in peace). She was built to accomodate a street car, but one was never installed there to the best of my knowledge. It is a pinned arch - very text book. She's been in the news very recently as well Look closely, very closely at the concrete pier for a HUGE clue..... |
Bloor Bridge?
http://www.atl.ec.gc.ca/weather/hurr.../photos/51.jpg |
would that be over the humber? near the Old Mill area?
Bloor over Humber is correct.
The blue line on the pier indicates the water level of the Humber River during Huricane Hazel in the 1950 that killed 80 or so people. Sticky has it.... |
very cool.
would that be Yorkdale Mall?
Yes Sir. I thought it might be too easy.
I couldnt think of anywhere else that has such a freakishly busy parking lot.

I guess that is Flowerpot Island at Tobermory. |
Bay of Fundy?
Leto got it. Flowerpot Island it is. Game on. (and I absolutely refuse to go anywhere near Ikea on a weekend, its insane)
thought I'd join in.
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...on77/407px.jpg sorry if it's a little big.... |
