trinity bellwoods park?
|
No. This is not in Toronto.
|
where is it then?
- hahaha - thought i'd try..... |
I'm guessing but there was lots of building like that in Brampton!

Not in Brampton.
I believe this thread has shown a place that is just across the road from this church. |
Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica Ottawa.
|
Game on Sticky!
(for the record... the Peacekeepers Memorial is directly across the road from this church). |
And Parliament hill is not far off either.

Is that the Sports Hall of Fame on the Canadian National Exhibition grounds in Toronto (former home of the Hockey Hall of Fame)?
|
Charlatan you are the Man.
|
|
Shrine Peace Memorial. In Toronto. Built by those crazy Freemasons.
|
Niagra....
|
Game on Bossnass... did the Buliva Tower give it away? I wish they hadn't torn it down (they tore it down to accomodate the Indy).

FUCK ME, I THOUGHT IT LOOKED FAMILIAR. DAMMIT... |

I also had a (black sheep great-half) uncle that was a mason/shriner and saw a picture of him at the dedication in the 60s when my dad and I cleaned out his house a few years ago. He had no immediate family and left 600k+ to the Shriners Hospital. edit- and now google tells me that that was a relocation and second dedication, the orginal was in the 30s. I guess I didn't recall what was on the plaque. |

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e218/bossnass/2.jpg I think the history behind one of these bridges shaped my decision to pursue becoming a CivE. |
They are very close to one another, at roughly the same height.

Quote:
yeah............ the bastard is good isn't he? fuckin' eh Charlie! |
Is that in St. Catherine's Ontario?
|
Nope, these bridges are in a western province.
|
Looks like Alberta but don't know where!
|
Looks like a rail road on one side and a road on the other.

the Crowsnest Pass route between Lethbridge and Fort Macleod?
|
The bridges are in Alberta, but not between Lethbridge and Fort Macleod.
They are two seperate bridges, of two seperate ages and purposes, running somewhat closely and parallel. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...s/ed7ff7c1.png |
Quote:
I'd like to call bullshit on this one. there's very little here that is quite that pretty. :) |
I found one of the bridges, now I just have to figure out where it is.
|
Hondo, Alberta
|
Sorry. Perhaps one of the bridges looks like one in Hondo. I've heard of Hondo, but other then 'north somewhere towards Lesser Slave', I don't know where Hondo is. The two bridges I'm looking for are not in Hondo.
I thought the logo on my last post was a giveaway. |
This is all I got. It will have to be a help for someone else.
The bridges are near Jasper kind of on the way back to Edmonton. Here are some other pics: http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/8647/example26fq.jpg http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/7043/example49zv.jpg http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/4048/example34tg.jpg |
I'd say those are the bridges...
|
ya, but I can't get any more specific on the location.
Maybe this is as specific as Bossnass is looking for or maybe not. If not maybe someone else can figure something out with that logo. |
The symbol is for the Yellowhead Highway, which runs from Manitoba to BC. I've driven most of it, but I can't place those bridges. Wikipedia has a fine entry for it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellowhead_Highway |
It is the Pembina River Viaduct and The Yellowhead Highway Bridge... which is near Entwhistle, Alberta.
|
Charlatan continues to impress.

Cool background, to me, Via Wikipedia, which saves me from typing it out.. Quote:

I wouldn't have gotten it if it wasn't for Sticky and Fresnelly (by the way, welcome back Fresnelly!).
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...1/451aaf65.jpg |
This is a nice picture, I like the composition... is it something obvious, i mean in that would a closer shot give it away?
|
If nobody gets it I will post something closer.
|
Wow, that is a hard one.
|
The pic is hard to make out..!
|
Beats me. Do the bars on the windows make it a jail of some sort?
|
|
I wonder if it is a remnant of the old Riverdale Zoo.
|
Game on Leto!
This can be found on the grounds of what is now the Riverdale Farm. Interestingly, most descriptions of the Farm mention other buildings and structures that are left over from when it was known as the Riverdale Zoo (most of it was torn down when the Zoo moved to Scarborough) but they do not mention this odd little gem. Riverdale Farm History of Riverdale Farm |
does anybody else not see all the localized boards on the main Forum page?
|
I was gonna say that zoo to...oh well to slow once again!
|

I tried to send a PM to Charlatan (but your message count is full)... So, going to look for a pic. |
|
that's the angels clubhouse in downtown toronto.
and if i'm right........can someone please take my spot,as i'm quite busy today. thanks guys |
Correct you are flyman! Down on Eastern Ave, just west of Logan Ave.
Leto, I had the same idea to use this for the thread, but nerves kept me from taking a photo. You're a brave man! Apparently, those "planters" out front are actully heavily reinforced barricades that can prevent a SWAT team tank from busting in. |
Ok, due to flyman being busy, here's a photo. It shouldn't be too hard.

haha, I was thinking the same thing. But I used my nifty new phone (not as good as Charlatan's mind you - I got one of those sony-ericsons with the walkman in it) and I thought that I would hold it up to the car window as I drove by. so, yes, game on ... |
Quote:
The new zoo was such a departure form the victorian era facility, but I think it is a shame that thebuildings weren't preserved on the Riverdale site. |

The thread has been resusrected. The Localized boards are still missing from the main forums page and from the dropdowns. If you will have the link in your history, it is still possible to go directly to the Canada board. fresnelly, that is the Casino de Montréal |
Sticky takes it! Game on.
(thank goodness) |
|
It is Upper Canada Village...
That is an example of a tenant farm. |
Charlatan, how do you dot it?
You're up |
My first guess was Black Creek Pioneer Village... then I checked Upper Canada Village...

Glenora Ferry?
|
Game on aberkok!
|
dammit ... too slow. I've got a great pic of the glenora, and the apple trees nearby... If I can find it, i'll post it for fun.
|
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...k/S3000021.jpg
I'd make it more difficult, but I'm running out of places in Canada! |

Oh damn I missed it, to busy working. I though that was the Walf Island Ferry but its bigger! |
toronto zoo aberkok?
|
Game on Leto mosquito!
|
cool. That was an ass-worthy guess! I was going by the pathways.
here we go, what and where is this: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...0/5c5a55fa.jpg |
That is just off the DVP... in Toronto.
They look like big molars or ponderous, headless elephants... but they are living sculpture. They actively filter water pumped in from the Don River. They were paid for by the company that makes the plastic out of which they are made. |
Game on Charlatan. Yes we always call them the teeth of the DVP... and they do filter water. I think I got a link somewhere.
Link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lonepri...7594080470894/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/lonepri...7594080470894/ some text: Believe it or not, these sculptures are actually a water purification device. They pass water through ground-up plastic bottles (among other things) to catch the impurities in water before returning it to the Don River. About a half dozen of these stand on either side of the Don Valley Parkway, which you can see running just behind these figures. |
Wierd never seen them, they new? Havn't been in that part of town for like 4 years now!
|
They have been there for a more than four years... I'd say more like 10.
I really like this shot... wish I'd taken it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...1/bcbd4e98.jpg |
The spire looks like Halifax City Hall.
|
yup...........very cool pic Charlie...........
wish i knew where it was. .........and i'm glad we got our Canada thread back too..... |
Game on Bossnass!
|
I didn't think that my guess was going to be correct.
In the spirit of pointy things. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...s/30028f7c.jpg |
is this in Halifax too?
|
Nope. Ontario, since my Alberta bridges almost killed Sticky.
And since I've realized I don't know the name of this chuch the town name will do just fine. |
Brockville
|
Brockville or Gananoque... That would be my guess.
|
Brockville it is, Game on Leto.
I thought that slate roof would get someone to guess Gananoque too. |
whoa! okay ... here goes:
it should be easy to easterners & westerners ... http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...0/a9a2758f.jpg |
Haha!
I go by this everyday on the way to work. The south east corner of Queen and John Streets. Home of CityTV, MuchMusic and the entire family of Chum Specialty Channels and Speakers Corner. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...1/feb541a0.jpg |
I'm thinking that this is a statue of Sir John A.
Possibly Kingston? would that be Lake Ontario Park? |
Right guy, wrong place.
|
Victoria Park Regina
(thanks Leto) |

Game on Sticky! (where is that Ben... this was supposed to be won by the guy who lives in the big rectangle in the middle)
|
|
Avon Theatre in Stratford, Ontario!

Butterdome (Van Vliet Centre/Universade Pavilion). Edmonton, AB. About 30 seconds from here.
|
Bingo! Mmm, Butter.
Game on Bossnass |

|
Yes. Yes it is. Game on.
