Is that the Starliner Towers on Nun's Island near Montreal (as seen in Cronenberg's Shivers)?
|

?? where are you going? |

More info on the movie "Shivers" and the scandal it caused can be found at the following link. http://www.canuxploitation.com/review/shivers.html Here's a couple more pictures of the place. http://www.milnoc.com/images/SSPX0073.jpg http://www.milnoc.com/images/SSPX0075.jpg Congrats Charlatan! |
dammit. that was my first guess. It just didn't look tall enough.
You know, I took a girl on our first date to see Shivers (Drive-in in Barrie Ontario) and was surprised that I didn't get a second date. I thought it was a decent flick. |
You know what? I pulled that answer out of my ass.
I can't believe it was right. OK here we go... <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/StevenMurphy001/TFP/photo?authkey=rg-0rAySR3s#5192599592987001378"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/StevenMurphy001/SA_R0XjUAiI/AAAAAAAACng/e08ibGkVUJM/s400/CoolT1Gray.jpg" /></a> |
Looks like some factory smoke stacks.
Looking at the other pictures, looks like it could be a school of some kind, perhaps an art school? |
Quote:
It has been a while since we had an ass-worthy guess! |
I love it when my ass is worthy of something...
|
Could this be the UofT, Scarborough Campus?
|
Game on Leto.
|
Hey I said a school of some kind! Thats the closest I have been in a long time. I really am not good at this game!
|
yep, now that's an ass-worthy guess as well. It just felt right. The guess that is forget the ass part.
Okay, I'm up. blahblah... I'll see what I can dig up. Okay BlahBlah, give this a shot: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1..._2000/tall.jpg |
Defanity a power plant, looks to be a coal plant. (and holy fuck I hate iTunes, its chopping just from my typing this. really gotta install something new)
Seeing as you said its for me I am guessing this in is Alberta... let me take a closer look Okay, could it be the Brandon plant in Manitoba? |
Let's see what's up my fat ass... :D
The Inco Superstack at Sudbury? |
game on Milnoc...
Sorry BlahBlah, I didn't mean to intimate that this was in Alberta! Hate to ask, how's the red mile these days? |
That does it! I'm going on a diet! Too much "junk in the trunk!" :D
Okay, here's a funny one. What's wrong with this picture? http://www.milnoc.com/images/SSPX0002-1.jpg |
Is that the Atwater Metro in Montreal?
(she has a big black penis) |
Game on, Sticky!
Now honestly. When the staff installed this ad, DIDN'T THEY NOTICE?!? If anyone is wondering what the heck is that thing, it's one of the old mechanical clocks which have stopped working some fifteen years ago. They're still attached to the bloody walls! Anyway, here's the rest of the shot. http://www.milnoc.com/images/SSPX0002-2.jpg Sticky, I now know where you live! You'd HAVE to be a local to get it that quickly! :D |
What a terrible placement of that ad! And don't worry guys, I am bound to get another one one of these days!
|
I am going to go and take a peek to see if it is one of the clocks. I will report back later.
That was one of the very few that I did not have to Google. Here is the next one: http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/5002/example2ry6.jpg |
is this part of a pedestrian concourse in Montreal?
|
Not really.
It is probably connected somehow (almost everything downtown is somehow connected). I intended to cut out the Banque Nationale part of the picture. Oops. |
I know what it is. But because I've run out of pictures to submit, I'll pass. :)
|
Square-Victoria?
|
Not Square Victoria
|
Montreal train (Via Rail) station. (Central Station ou Gare Centrale)
|
Leto is correct.
|
|
Canada!
OK, lemme just find a picture here... |
alright blahblah I'll give you a hint. It's NOT in Alberta. And worts than that, it's east of Manitoba.
|
It looks like a Brewry.
|
That's in the Distillery District in Toronto. The old Gooderham and Worts Distillery.
|
Game on Charlatan
|
Cool.
Here we go. <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/StevenMurphy001/TFP/photo?authkey=rg-0rAySR3s#5195038515935838786"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/StevenMurphy001/SBh8AXjUAkI/AAAAAAAACpE/IqbJN8O9ero/s800/free.jpg" /></a> |
I like that. The view is free. Does the light at the end of a pier also serve to act as a type of lighthouse?
To me that looks like a lake. I am guessing that this is on the shore of one of the great lakes, Lake Ontario? |
It's just a light as opposed to a light house and yes, that's Lake Ontario.
|
is this in the eatern half of lake ontario? i.e. east of Coburg?
|
Nope. That map was a ruse.
Here's another shot of the same: <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/StevenMurphy001/TFP/photo?authkey=rg-0rAySR3s#5195552550506725970"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/StevenMurphy001/SBpPhHjUAlI/AAAAAAAACpQ/IImmo8DrYz0/s800/197582080_97986044bc.jpg" /></a> |
Nothing? Nobody?
It's in Toronto... where specifically. |
Toronto Islands?
|
fark, I knew Gare Central and the Brewery district, but this one, I've never seen before.
Must be deeped darkest Scarborough, or the Island somewhere. Two places I know not. |
Toronto Islands it is. It is the pier at the southern most point on Centre Island.
Game on Leto. |
eh
Canada didn't let me in, and that has colored my perception.
Then, too, loonies coming out of the change machines when none of the vending machines will accept them strikes me as wrong...even if it could amount to a profit. |
All the vending machines I use accept Loonies and the Bear-assed Queen. Unfortunately I rarely profit from the exchange...
here we go: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...to_2000/ft.jpg |
Tsawwassen Ferry terminal.
|
Game on splck
|
Ive driven across that how many times? I can't believe I didn't get that one!
|
it's all a matter of perspective my man!
|
|
Tsawwassen Ferry terminal?
|
lol, ah no.
|
ahahhhaha.....good one Leto.
good to see splck post again too........ how's the floor comin' man? ............and no,i don't know where that pic of yours is. |
Is that near Long Beach on Vancouver island in BC?
|
It's on Van Isle, but it's not near Long Beach.
|
Qualicum Beach?
|
No, it's not Qualicum...here's another pic.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/splck/where12.jpg |
I know where this is. But I'll wait until BlahBlah ponies up another guess... c'mon Blahblah.....
|
Haha thanks Leto, I am not sure where this is. I tried looking along the coast with google maps but could not get it. Its all you
|
Found it on Google Maps, it's in Comox, I think, no idea what it's called though.
|
Silent Jay got it, I found it the same way. I think it is a shipping terminus rather than a ferry dock.
|
Give me more than that. There's a specific name.
|
Goose Spit, home of Goose Spit Indian Reserve #3 at the tip, and H.M.C.S. Quadra in the middle.
|
milnoc has it, post away.......
|
|
Mount Tremblant?
|
Yep! More specifically, the "Village Tremblant", future home of Quebec's fourth casino!
There's gonna be a lot of foreclosures real soon! :) |
Well there's another one out of my ass... ;)
Next! <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/StevenMurphy001/TFP/photo?authkey=rg-0rAySR3s#5198386943717200850"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/StevenMurphy001/SCRhYhFK09I/AAAAAAAACqQ/E0yysZkUCQQ/s800/324876041_8797a4f317.jpg" /></a> |
Is this a university?
|
Not a University.
|
The shape of the roof is significant.
|
Thats the Dominion Observatory in Ottawa
|
Quote:
you do have an ass fetish ,don't you Charlie? :D no idea where that is either........ |
Fly man, I am pretty sure everyone has an ass fetish when it comes to yours.
|
blahblah!
Game. On. PS Fly... kettle meet pot |
|
hmmm. Is this in Calgary?
|
It is in Calgary. And if it helps I took this picture myself.
|
<TANGENT>
Quote:
I am positive that you are correct - that it is one of the old Mechanical clocks, without the clock. I took a few more pics. http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/8568/sany0319ky4.jpg http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/2284/sany0320xf7.jpg </TANGENT> Please continue |
ahhh... such senses of humour those Montrealais have....
Blahblah, I'll go with the "blue curtain" or the new city hall. |
That was fast. Game on leto.
Here is what the building looks like http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...city_hall1.jpg http://www.travel-images.com/canada166.jpg |
very good. Sorry for the delay, I was out shopping last night. Not only did I get real Montreal style bagels, but since the Bagel House is really close to Besst Buy, I picked myself up a new TV set. Yup, I've joined the LCD world...
How is the new city hall perceived in Calgary? Is it liked or considered as an architectural blight? Okay, here's my pic. where is this beach. there is a small town in the picture, famous for its cinamon buns. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...2000/beach.jpg |
Is it in NB?
|
it is.
|
|
Game on Sticky.
Oh, and the buns at the Alma bakery? VERY Sticky. * edit: good on you digging up that reference too! |
Google found it for me - New Brunswick cinnamon buns.
Potentially an easy one before the weekend: http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/7124/sany0344fq0.jpg |
I think the building looks awesome (city hall) but I don't know what anyone else thinks of it.
|
Sticky, how about we bar ourselves from guessing each other's submissions? :D
As for Calgary's new City Hall, unfortunately the sterile windows and the sharp edges make it look like any other soulless building. |
Milnoc, at least when theya re that obvious.
Anyone else? |
my guess is that this is in Montreal somewhere. But is it a door? a sign? artwork?
|
It is on Montreal, it is not a door. The lighting is pretty bad becuase it is backlit and I don't have a good handle on my camera features.
Her is an almost equally as bad lit picture. This one shows a little more. http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/7327/example1wv1.jpg |
here's a shot in the dark: Montreal Subway art. Peel Station? Or could it be Prefontaine or De L'eglise?
*edit: No, I'll stick with Peel. http://www.metrodemontreal.com/green/peel/index.html |
I'd say you have it Leto:
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/210/4...a53a35.jpg?v=0 |
Peel it is
|
ok... going for a thematic pic here....
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...re-0008-05.jpg Quote:
Your second photo was a big help. I was able to discern the edge of a subway platform in it. Did you take that from across the tracks on the other platform, or did you climb down on the tracks to do it? |
bump---
|
Yorkdale subway station.
Tomorrow, I'll go out and find a picture. |
Damn, I knew that one... just a little slow on the draw.
|
Game on Milnoc.
|
Here's the next one...
http://www.milnoc.com/images/P1010060-1.JPG We should be good for a week with this one! :D |
