Is that the Starliner Towers on Nun's Island near Montreal (as seen in Cronenberg's Shivers)?

That's it! More specifically, the Mies van der Rohe towers. The name "Starliner" was only used in the movie.

More info on the movie "Shivers" and the scandal it caused can be found at the following link. http://www.canuxploitation.com/review/shivers.html

Here's a couple more pictures of the place.

Congrats Charlatan!

Leto 04-23-2008 09:05 AM

dammit. that was my first guess. It just didn't look tall enough.

You know, I took a girl on our first date to see Shivers (Drive-in in Barrie Ontario) and was surprised that I didn't get a second date. I thought it was a decent flick.

Charlatan 04-23-2008 04:17 PM

You know what? I pulled that answer out of my ass.

I can't believe it was right.

OK here we go...
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/StevenMurphy001/TFP/photo?authkey=rg-0rAySR3s#5192599592987001378"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/StevenMurphy001/SA_R0XjUAiI/AAAAAAAACng/e08ibGkVUJM/s400/CoolT1Gray.jpg" /></a>

blahblah454 04-23-2008 07:34 PM

Looks like some factory smoke stacks.

Looking at the other pictures, looks like it could be a school of some kind, perhaps an art school?

It has been a while since we had an ass-worthy guess!

Charlatan 04-23-2008 11:59 PM

I love it when my ass is worthy of something...

Leto 04-24-2008 12:59 PM

Could this be the UofT, Scarborough Campus?

Charlatan 04-24-2008 02:39 PM

Game on Leto.

blahblah454 04-24-2008 03:32 PM

Hey I said a school of some kind! Thats the closest I have been in a long time. I really am not good at this game!

Leto 04-24-2008 07:26 PM

yep, now that's an ass-worthy guess as well. It just felt right. The guess that is forget the ass part.

Okay, I'm up. blahblah... I'll see what I can dig up.

Okay BlahBlah, give this a shot:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1..._2000/tall.jpg

blahblah454 04-24-2008 08:00 PM

Defanity a power plant, looks to be a coal plant. (and holy fuck I hate iTunes, its chopping just from my typing this. really gotta install something new)

Seeing as you said its for me I am guessing this in is Alberta... let me take a closer look

Okay, could it be the Brandon plant in Manitoba?

Milnoc 04-25-2008 02:42 AM

Let's see what's up my fat ass... :D

The Inco Superstack at Sudbury?

Leto 04-25-2008 03:01 AM

game on Milnoc...

Sorry BlahBlah, I didn't mean to intimate that this was in Alberta! Hate to ask, how's the red mile these days?

Milnoc 04-25-2008 07:10 AM

That does it! I'm going on a diet! Too much "junk in the trunk!" :D

Okay, here's a funny one. What's wrong with this picture?

http://www.milnoc.com/images/SSPX0002-1.jpg

Sticky 04-25-2008 08:10 AM

Is that the Atwater Metro in Montreal?

(she has a big black penis)

Milnoc 04-25-2008 11:33 AM

Game on, Sticky!

Now honestly. When the staff installed this ad, DIDN'T THEY NOTICE?!?

If anyone is wondering what the heck is that thing, it's one of the old mechanical clocks which have stopped working some fifteen years ago. They're still attached to the bloody walls!

Anyway, here's the rest of the shot.

http://www.milnoc.com/images/SSPX0002-2.jpg

Sticky, I now know where you live! You'd HAVE to be a local to get it that quickly! :D

blahblah454 04-25-2008 12:11 PM

What a terrible placement of that ad! And don't worry guys, I am bound to get another one one of these days!

Sticky 04-28-2008 12:46 PM

I am going to go and take a peek to see if it is one of the clocks. I will report back later.

That was one of the very few that I did not have to Google.

Here is the next one:
http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/5002/example2ry6.jpg

Leto 04-28-2008 12:59 PM

is this part of a pedestrian concourse in Montreal?

Sticky 04-28-2008 01:26 PM

Not really.
It is probably connected somehow (almost everything downtown is somehow connected).

I intended to cut out the Banque Nationale part of the picture. Oops.

Milnoc 04-28-2008 01:30 PM

I know what it is. But because I've run out of pictures to submit, I'll pass. :)

silent_jay 04-28-2008 02:15 PM

Square-Victoria?

Sticky 04-28-2008 02:41 PM

Not Square Victoria

Leto 04-29-2008 02:30 AM

Montreal train (Via Rail) station. (Central Station ou Gare Centrale)

Sticky 04-29-2008 08:51 AM

Leto is correct.

Leto 04-29-2008 09:17 AM

where is this?

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...0/DSC00507.jpg

blahblah454 04-29-2008 11:14 AM

Canada!

OK, lemme just find a picture here...

Leto 04-29-2008 11:35 AM

alright blahblah I'll give you a hint. It's NOT in Alberta. And worts than that, it's east of Manitoba.

Sticky 04-29-2008 01:51 PM

It looks like a Brewry.

Charlatan 04-29-2008 02:07 PM

That's in the Distillery District in Toronto. The old Gooderham and Worts Distillery.

Leto 04-29-2008 06:31 PM

Game on Charlatan

Charlatan 04-30-2008 06:01 AM

Cool.

Here we go.
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/StevenMurphy001/TFP/photo?authkey=rg-0rAySR3s#5195038515935838786"><img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/StevenMurphy001/SBh8AXjUAkI/AAAAAAAACpE/IqbJN8O9ero/s800/free.jpg" /></a>

Leto 04-30-2008 11:02 AM

I like that. The view is free. Does the light at the end of a pier also serve to act as a type of lighthouse?

To me that looks like a lake. I am guessing that this is on the shore of one of the great lakes, Lake Ontario?

Charlatan 04-30-2008 02:25 PM

It's just a light as opposed to a light house and yes, that's Lake Ontario.

Leto 05-01-2008 11:22 AM

is this in the eatern half of lake ontario? i.e. east of Coburg?

Charlatan 05-01-2008 03:09 PM

Nope. That map was a ruse.

Here's another shot of the same:
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/StevenMurphy001/TFP/photo?authkey=rg-0rAySR3s#5195552550506725970"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/StevenMurphy001/SBpPhHjUAlI/AAAAAAAACpQ/IImmo8DrYz0/s800/197582080_97986044bc.jpg" /></a>

Charlatan 05-02-2008 09:43 PM

Nothing? Nobody?

It's in Toronto... where specifically.

Leto 05-03-2008 02:35 AM

Toronto Islands?

james t kirk 05-03-2008 06:50 AM

fark, I knew Gare Central and the Brewery district, but this one, I've never seen before.

Must be deeped darkest Scarborough, or the Island somewhere. Two places I know not.

Charlatan 05-03-2008 05:03 PM

Toronto Islands it is. It is the pier at the southern most point on Centre Island.

Game on Leto.

Ourcrazymodern? 05-03-2008 05:47 PM

eh

Canada didn't let me in, and that has colored my perception.

Then, too, loonies coming out of the change machines when none of the vending machines will accept them strikes me as wrong...even if it could amount to a profit.

Leto 05-04-2008 04:57 AM

All the vending machines I use accept Loonies and the Bear-assed Queen. Unfortunately I rarely profit from the exchange...

here we go:

Game on splck

blahblah454 05-05-2008 06:30 AM

Ive driven across that how many times? I can't believe I didn't get that one!

Leto 05-05-2008 07:27 AM

............and no,i don't know where that pic of yours is.

blahblah454 05-06-2008 06:38 PM

Is that near Long Beach on Vancouver island in BC?

splck 05-06-2008 07:43 PM

It's on Van Isle, but it's not near Long Beach.

blahblah454 05-06-2008 08:55 PM

Qualicum Beach?

splck 05-07-2008 10:43 AM

No, it's not Qualicum...here's another pic.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/splck/where12.jpg

Leto 05-07-2008 11:49 AM

I know where this is. But I'll wait until BlahBlah ponies up another guess... c'mon Blahblah.....

blahblah454 05-07-2008 12:51 PM

Haha thanks Leto, I am not sure where this is. I tried looking along the coast with google maps but could not get it. Its all you

silent_jay 05-07-2008 01:58 PM

Found it on Google Maps, it's in Comox, I think, no idea what it's called though.

Leto 05-07-2008 02:15 PM

Silent Jay got it, I found it the same way. I think it is a shipping terminus rather than a ferry dock.

splck 05-07-2008 09:42 PM

Give me more than that. There's a specific name.

Milnoc 05-08-2008 02:58 AM

Goose Spit, home of Goose Spit Indian Reserve #3 at the tip, and H.M.C.S. Quadra in the middle.

silent_jay 05-08-2008 05:12 AM

milnoc has it, post away.......

Milnoc 05-08-2008 06:25 AM

Only one image this time.

Charlatan 05-08-2008 04:21 PM

Mount Tremblant?

Milnoc 05-08-2008 06:26 PM

Yep! More specifically, the "Village Tremblant", future home of Quebec's fourth casino!

There's gonna be a lot of foreclosures real soon! :)

Charlatan 05-09-2008 06:37 AM

Well there's another one out of my ass... ;)

Next!

Leto 05-09-2008 01:14 PM

Is this a university?

Charlatan 05-10-2008 05:04 AM

Not a University.

Charlatan 05-11-2008 02:26 PM

The shape of the roof is significant.

blahblah454 05-11-2008 02:54 PM

Thats the Dominion Observatory in Ottawa

Leto 05-15-2008 08:07 AM

ahhh... such senses of humour those Montrealais have....

Blahblah,

I'll go with the "blue curtain" or the new city hall.

blahblah454 05-15-2008 01:05 PM

That was fast. Game on leto.

Here is what the building looks like

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...city_hall1.jpg

http://www.travel-images.com/canada166.jpg

Leto 05-16-2008 05:31 AM

very good. Sorry for the delay, I was out shopping last night. Not only did I get real Montreal style bagels, but since the Bagel House is really close to Besst Buy, I picked myself up a new TV set. Yup, I've joined the LCD world...

How is the new city hall perceived in Calgary? Is it liked or considered as an architectural blight?

Okay, here's my pic. where is this beach. there is a small town in the picture, famous for its cinamon buns.

Sticky 05-16-2008 06:58 AM

Is it in NB?

Leto 05-16-2008 07:46 AM

it is.

Sticky 05-16-2008 08:32 AM

It just looked like NB coast to me.

Alma, NB?
http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/archive...p/t-92471.html

Leto 05-16-2008 10:06 AM

Game on Sticky.

Oh, and the buns at the Alma bakery? VERY Sticky.

* edit: good on you digging up that reference too!

Sticky 05-16-2008 11:12 AM

Google found it for me - New Brunswick cinnamon buns.

Potentially an easy one before the weekend:
http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/7124/sany0344fq0.jpg

blahblah454 05-16-2008 01:53 PM

I think the building looks awesome (city hall) but I don't know what anyone else thinks of it.

Milnoc 05-16-2008 04:39 PM

Sticky, how about we bar ourselves from guessing each other's submissions? :D

As for Calgary's new City Hall, unfortunately the sterile windows and the sharp edges make it look like any other soulless building.

Sticky 05-18-2008 02:33 PM

Milnoc, at least when theya re that obvious.

Anyone else?

Leto 05-19-2008 08:57 AM

my guess is that this is in Montreal somewhere. But is it a door? a sign? artwork?

Sticky 05-19-2008 05:27 PM

It is on Montreal, it is not a door. The lighting is pretty bad becuase it is backlit and I don't have a good handle on my camera features.

Her is an almost equally as bad lit picture. This one shows a little more.

Leto 05-20-2008 08:21 AM

here's a shot in the dark: Montreal Subway art. Peel Station? Or could it be Prefontaine or De L'eglise?

*edit: No, I'll stick with Peel.

Charlatan 05-20-2008 04:31 PM

I'd say you have it Leto:
