Nice Job Saskatchewan. |

Game on!! |
That's just tricky, man.
I'll have to look for some other photos here. If I take too long, I nominate Cello to post a pic. |
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y14...1/11b2e174.jpg
Try this one out. One of the most beautiful places in the world, IMHO. |
Looks to me like some sort of Fire Lookout Post.
My guess is that it would be on the edge of the Rockies looking east. Damned if I could guess a spicific location. |
|
You got it, Sticky.
Chilcotin, BC. Amazing view. GAME ON! |
Awesome, I was hoping that you were not looking for the exact place.
Sorry for the small picture http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/2948/example22cj.jpg |
Is that Canada's Wonderland?
|
yes it is. Mount Paramount.
|
Mount Paramount in all its fiberglass glory.
|
Charlatan, you're the man.
|
|
I think that is the old seminary at Duck Lake.
Are you taking a trip out west with these pics just to get on my good side, Charlatan? You really don't have to. First, I only have a good side, and second, you are already on it... |
This is not on Duck Lake...
Flattery will get you nowhere... ya big lug. |
but is is an old seminary?
it looks like either the remains of a church, or one under construction... |
It is an old monastery...
|
How about:
Trappist Monastery Provincial Heritage Park, Manitoba |
That'll do pig, that'll do.
Game on! |
Please be specific (city is not enough on this one):
http://img55.imageshack.us/img55/3240/example15jw.jpg Someone told me the image above rexed. How is this one? http://xs300.xs.to/xs300/06194/example1.jpg |
University of Western Ontario in London, ON?
|
Nice job fresnelly.
Did you attend? |
That was quick!
|
Less than an hour. Much quicker than I thought it would be.
|
Boo yah! Both my parents and my Grandmother did, but I went elsewhere.
Okay - a Bridge! Hint: It was engineered by the subject of the monument below http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...s/bridge45.jpg http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...Picture052.jpg |
The International Railway Bridge between Fort Eerie and Buffalo. Engineered by Sir Casimir Stanislaus Gzowski.
|
Nicely done! Besides being a prolific engineer with many important projects across Canada, he's also a direct ancestor of broadcaster Peter Gzowski.
Game on! |
I knew the bridge, I didn't know Gzowski... I figured he must be related to Peter Gzowski.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...30a8ab4e42.jpg |
A scan of Gzowski's covering letter in his design report on the construction of the Internation bridge. (I have a copy)
A scan of the design drawing for Pier No. 5 http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c5...irk64/cas3.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c5...irk64/cas4.jpg |
Sorry that's so huge, I have no idea why.
Anyhoo, it's a fascinating document. Complete with diagrams as to how they constructed the coffre dams, built cranes, etc. BTW, Gzowski's original superstrucuture was removed and replaced in 1918 cause it was too light to support the new heavier train loads, however, the substructure is original. (I worked on this bridge about 1993 or so I think, pier protecting one of the piers in the Niagara river that was leaning over.) It cost more to fix that one pier in 1993 than it cost to build the entire bridge in 1873 |
Charlatan,
Is that a shot of the Drake Hotel? |
This is not in Toronto.
|
Charlatan, that has to be a city hall somewhere.
|
Is it in Manitoba?
The white roof contrasting the red brick is really familiar. |
It is a city hall and it is in Ontario.
|
Is it in:
Yarmouth Acton Ailsa Craig Ajax Aldershot Alexandria Alfred Alliston Almonte Alvinston Amherstburg Amherstview Armstrong Arnprior Ancaster Angus Apsley Arthur Athens Atikokan Atwood Aurora Aylmer Ayr Baden Bancroft Barrie Barriefield Barry's Bay Bath Bathurst Bayfield Beachburg Beachville Beamsville Beardmore Beaverton Belle River Belleville Belmont Big Trout Lake Blackburn Hamlet Blenheim Blind River Bloomfield Blossom Park Blyth Bobcaygeon Bolton Bonfield Bothwell Bourget Bowmanville Bracebridge Brampton Brantford Brechin Bridgenorth Brighton Brights Grove Brockville Bruce Mines Brussels Burford Burk's Falls Burlington Cache Bay Calabogie Caledon Caledonia Callander Calumet Cambridge Campbellford Cannington Caramat Cardinal Carleton Place Casselman Cayuga Chalk River Chapleau Chatham Chesley Chesterville Clarington Clifford Clinton Cobalt Cobden Cobourg Cochrane Colborne Colchester Coldwater Collingwood Collins Bay Comber Cookstown Cornwall Corunna Courtland Craigleith Creemore Crystal Beach Deep River Delhi Deseronto Dorchester Dorion Drayton Dresde Dryden Dundalk Dundas Dunnville Durham Dutton Eganville Elliot Lake Elmira Elmvale Elora Embro Embrun Emo Englehart English River Enniskillen Erin Espanola Essex Exeter Fenelon Falls Fergus Fonthill Forest Fort Erie Fort Frances Fort Severn Frankford Gananoque Georgetown Geraldton Glencoe Goderich Gore Bay Grafton Grand Bend Grand Valley Gravenhurst Grimsby Guelph Haileybury Haliburton Hamilton Hanover Harriston Harrow Harrowsmith Hastings Havelock Hawkesbury Hearst Hensall Hillsburgh Hornepayne Huntsville Hurkett Ignace Ingersoll Ingleside Iroquois Iroquois Falls Iron Bridge Jellicoe Kapuskasing Keewatin Kemptville Kenora Keswick Kettle Point Killaloe Station Killarney Kincardine Kingston Kingsville Kirkland Lake Kitchener L'Original Lasalle Lakefield Lambeth Lanark Lancaster Lansdowne Leamington Leith Limoges Lindsay Listowel Little Current London Long Sault Long Lake Longlac Lucan Lucknow Macdiarmid Madoc Malton Manitouwadge Marathon Markdale Markham Marmora Marrysville Massey Mattawa Maxville Meaford Merlin Merrickville Metcalfe Midland Mildmay Millbrook Milton Milverton Minden Mississauga Mitchell Moose Factory Moosonee Morrisburg Mount Albert Mount Brydges Mount Forest Mount Pleasant Murillo Nakina Nanticoke Napanee New Dundee New Hamburg New Liskeard Newburgh Newmarket Niagara Falls Niagara on the Lake Nipigon Nobleton North Bay North Gower Norwich Norwood Oakville Odessa Oil Springs Omemee Orangeville Orillia Osgoode Ottawa Otterville Owen Sound Paisley Palmerston Paris Parkhill Parry Sound Pass Lake Peawanuck Pembroke Penetanguishene Perth Petawawa Peterborough Petrolia Pickering Pickle Lake Picton Plantagenet Port Burwell Port Carling Port Colborne Port Credit Port Edward Port Elgin Port Hope Port McNicoll Port Perry Port Rowan Port Stanley Powassan Prescott Preston Rainy River Red Rock Red Lake Renfrew Richmond Richmond Hill Ridgetown Ripley Rockland Rockwood Rodney Rossport Russell Sandy Lake Sarnia Sauble Beach Sault Ste. |
Why I otta...
To the Moon, Charlie! |
No, it isn't on the moon either...
|
*sigh*
............................. |
hmmm.
Lindsay? |
Hard one, I'm thinking east coast but have no idea where to go from there!, Maybe P.E.I.?
|
Nope, southern Ontario...
|
Dunnville?
|
Quote:
Ok I give up then! |
No, not Dunnville.
In the vicinity of the town in which Brian1976 (TFP member who hasn't been around much lately) lives. |
Not:
- Startford - Dunnville - Lindsay - The moon I am pretty sure it is not: - Ingersoll - St. Thomas - Kitchener - Waterloo - Port Stanley - Grand Bend - Woodstock - Strathroy - Chatham - Sarnia - Guelph - Hamilton - Brantford - Simcoe |
In the vicinity but not any of those...
|
is there anything in the pic that would be a dead give-away?
|
I would say that if you have been in this small town, the clock would be... I suppose this place just hasn't been visited all that much...
Here's the main drag: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...1/e4a69726.jpg |
The Town of Aylmer?
|
Game. On.
Go Fresnelly! |
Funny that I've never noticed the clock when I'm in the area visiting relatives.
|
|
is it the station in the village of Hogsmead?
|
Not that I could tell. ;)
|
That is the Grand Central Station in Fraser, BC.
|
Quote:
Is that up the Ottawa Valley? |
Charlatan is correct with Fraser, BC. It's written on the building after all. It's on the road from Skagway Alaska to Whitehorse, YK.
Leto: Aylmer is down near St. Thomas in SW Ontario. Tobacco and Ginseng are major crops in the area. |
oh okay. for some reason I thought it was up Ottawa way....
I really got to go to the north shore more often. I have just re-discovered a friend who lives in Harrow, just outside of Windsor.... Maybe I'll make a road trip |
Leto, there is an Aylmer, Quebec which is just outside Ottawa.
Next! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...1/c2a4e2fd.jpg |
Drumheller
|
are those things hoodoos?
|
They are hoodoos and they are located in Drumheller.
Game on GentleBen. |
Did this die?
|
We are waiting on Ben...
In the meantime, here is another image. |
Sorry guys.
Busy bees sometimes forget which hive they are working on. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y14...1/e6052d3e.jpg Easy one. |
Hey Charlie, that statue looks like Lenin at that angle.
Then again, all dead guys in bronze start to look alike after a while. |
That's in Biggar, Sask.
|
Who and where?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...1/51eeb3e1.jpg |
Timothy Eaton? The statue used to be in the Eaton Centre, but I think it got moved to the ROM after Sears bought out Eatons... Before the Eaton Centre, I'm not sure where it was... College park?
|
It is Timothy Eaton but where is he now? I want a precise location.
|
His statue is in the ROM, and there is another statue at the MTS centre in Winnipeg, via WIKIPEDIA
|
Leto says the ROM. Is that incorrect?
Wikipedia says that there are two castings - One at the ROM in Toronto - And the other at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg |
I just assumed that it was the one from the eaton centre. I'm sure it's at the ROM as per the wikipedia article. Eaton court
|
Yes, it is in the ROM but it is no longer in the Eaton Court as the Eaton Court no looks like this...
http://www.seemsartless.com/photos/f...truction02.jpg Where in the ROM? |
How about the Lower Rotunda of the ROM?
|
in the basement by the cafeteria.
|
You are both right but Sticky was first...
Game on. |
This may be quick or it may not.
Another image may completely give it away. I may have even zoomed in too close. http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/5808/example41uu.jpg |
Orange Julep, Montreal.
|
3 minutes...nice
Would this have been any harder? http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/5579/example58qw.jpg I guess not. Game on. |
I didn't even know what that is.
|
Now there's a man who likes his Orange Julep!
|

Brighton Ontario?
|
Nope. Let me know when clues become necessary (if at all).
|
bring on the clues man..........
|
First clue: east
|
maybe if we knew who the characters are? Or are they generic? Or would knowing give the answer away?
|
Knowing the characters won't help (I couldn't tell you anyway), but knowing what their function is would definitely help....and that's clue number two!
|
Joe's Scarecrow Village at Cap Le Moine, Nova Scotia.
It's on the Cabot Trail. |
Curse you Charlatan...always spoiling my dastardly plans...and I would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for you pesky kids!!
Game on. |
|
Quebec somewhere?
|
Nope. This is in Ontario.
