Peachland ? on the shores of Lake Okanagan?

mokle 06-15-2006 04:04 AM

Close :) Wrong city

Charlatan 06-15-2006 05:22 AM

Penticton, BC.

Bossnass 06-15-2006 05:25 AM

The peach stand is in Penticton. But I'll be away from a computer for the next 12 hours or so, so whomever reads this first, feel free to post a picture.

Edit. Bah. Beat to it. nm.

This one is a picture of me last September. Where am I, bonus points for name of shipwreck. Sorry for the brutal chop job on the pic, I had to hide some critical info

hmmm, I think I like this pic better:suave:

Daval - is that the Niagara and is it in Thunder Bay?

Daval 06-15-2006 06:03 AM

Charlatan - no, but close.

Charlatan 06-15-2006 06:20 AM

The Niagara is just off Knife Island along the north shore of Superior.

Daval 06-15-2006 06:23 AM

This shipwreck is not the Niagara.

no guesses?

mokle 06-15-2006 07:42 PM

Niagara II in Tobermory?

Daval 06-16-2006 04:31 AM

You got it. I was there last weekend as well. what a load of fun that wreck is!

mokle 06-16-2006 04:16 PM

do we have a stumper here?

Leto 06-19-2006 02:19 AM

i was going to venture the Paramount theatre complex in toronto. But it doesn't quite look like it.

Charlatan 06-19-2006 04:10 AM

I have no idea where that is...

Daval 06-19-2006 04:43 AM

It looks familiar to me but I can't place it.

aberkok 06-19-2006 05:09 AM

Is that an early pic of the Yorkdale mall?

fresnelly 06-19-2006 05:18 AM

This picture is recent and its choice was inspired by a certain cup tournament on right now. :)

Leto 06-19-2006 06:07 AM

Copps colisseum in Hamilton?

don't think so... I found an early image of Yorkdale:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...0/a14ed27c.jpg

some notable items of interest about Yorkdale:

In 1964 Yorkdale had achieved a number of firsts:

The first dual-auditorium theatre
The largest furniture store in any Canadian Shopping Centre
The largest restaurant in any Canadian Shopping Centre (Encore Noshery)
The first "bazaar area" with a unique grouping of kiosks
The first professional offices grouping of non-retail

found at: http://www.yorkdale.com/history.asp

fresnelly 06-19-2006 06:44 AM

It's not Copp's Coliseum, but you're on the right track.

Charlatan 06-19-2006 09:17 AM

Played a hunch...

That is the Montreal Forum. It is now an AMC Cinema. Somehow I find this more palatable than making Maple Leaf Gardens into a grocery store...

fresnelly 06-19-2006 09:24 AM

You got it.

I was there a couple of years ago. Inside, besides the stores and such, they have a corner of the boards with some of the original seats installed, as well as the scoreboard (possibly a facsimile) hanging above. It's all a bit garish, but yeah, there are worse fates.

Game on!

That's the little observatory hut at Sanson's Peak on top of Sulfur Mountain in Banff. I can't remember exactly but I think it had a bed, some boots and a hatchet in it.

Charlatan 06-19-2006 04:04 PM

Daval 06-20-2006 07:25 AM

bah, that was too easy. Shoulda picked something harder :P

fresnelly 06-20-2006 10:56 AM

It helped that I've worked on some outdoor events in the square out front.

Towards the upper right of the photo, you can see the amazing Greek style ampitheatre that can never be used because it doubles as a pizza oven during the summer. The whole complex is pretty odd. If you were standing on the square, you would never even know the theatre was there.

Inside, there's this 4 or 5 story straight-line staircase, made of black stone that narrows as you climb to the top. You have to approach it humming Darth Vader's theme from star wars to fully appreciate it.

You know, I've been in that square several times and had no clue that the ampitheatre was there. My sister had her wedding photo's there last summer (backup location due to rain) and we did photo's on that staircase, its a bigass one, I love the Darth Vader reference.

splck 06-20-2006 12:06 PM

Vancouver library?

Excepting the wedding photographer, you wouldn't know about the beautiful Japanese garden either :)

Splk has answered correctly. That's the Vancouver Library, designed by Moshe Safdie.

fresnelly 06-21-2006 05:50 PM

Game on James T!

Can anyone name the store in between Sam's and A&A om the photo below? I don't remember it.

Peter Dunn's Vinyl Museum, at the time I believe.

... remember comparative shopping for records between Sam's and A&A's?? back and forth, looking to save $1 off an album...

Daval 06-23-2006 04:03 AM

It is indeed JTK's turn.

during the meanwhile, does anybody know what the name of the mountain is in the picture attached (not for a turn, it is still JTK's ). I snapped this shot as I left Vancouver for Toronto. I t hought it was Mt Baker, but I don't think so. It is about half an hour or less into the flight.

Looks like Mt Baker to me. The next closest volcano is Glacier Peak, but that's a fair distance South of the border.

PhilMcGroin 06-23-2006 10:10 AM

hey guys, can anyone play? I should have a couple gooders for the group if that's cool.

cheers
Phil

Charlatan 06-23-2006 12:25 PM

Hey Phil... anyone can play. All you have to do is answer one of the posted pictures and then you can post a picture of your own.

We are just waiting on the winner from the last round, James T. Kirk to post the next picture.

PhilMcGroin 06-23-2006 12:49 PM

Hey great! Thanks for the info. I'll keep tuning in and see if I can earn the right to post one of my own. :-)

james t kirk 06-23-2006 02:49 PM

I have been remiss, thinking about other things...

Upper Canada College Gates?

fresnelly 06-24-2006 01:53 PM

Those are the gates that lead out from the Guild Inn sculpture garden to the walking trail overlooking Lake Ontario and the Scarbourough Bluffs.

Is it cheating if I was there last weekend?

Charlatan 06-24-2006 03:01 PM

Game on Fresnelly! I thought this might be tough, but should have known better.

How do the grounds look now that the Guild is closed? Have they demolished the butt ugly tower yet?

fresnelly 06-24-2006 03:13 PM

The whole building complex is in tact but boarded up. It makes for strange park to say the least and is telling about our regard for public space. When you pull into the parking lot, it's the first thing you see, and you'll have no idea what beauty lies behind it.

Next up: (inspired by James T's BCE Place pic)

Charlatan 06-24-2006 04:53 PM

Is that the West Edmonton Mall?

I have heard that they are putting in a spa and mini boutique hotel. I would really like to see the main complex returned to it's splendor of old.

Bossnass 06-24-2006 05:58 PM

That is Europa Blvd at the Mall. I played mini-golf on the bottom floor about 3 weeks ago.

fresnelly 06-24-2006 07:05 PM

You Sirs, are correct!

A pedestrian bridge

:)

Charlatan 06-25-2006 12:39 PM

Yes... but where?

Gatorade Frost 06-25-2006 04:33 PM

Toronto, perhaps?

Charlatan 06-25-2006 04:48 PM

Nope. Not in Toronto.

Leto 06-26-2006 02:40 AM

is this near Quebec City?

Charlatan 06-26-2006 04:30 AM

No. Not near Quebec City.

Leto 06-26-2006 01:18 PM

well, then just from the limited viewpoint. I would place it somewhere in the Canadian Shield. somewhere with the boreal forest and predominantly igneous rock such as granite.

Now what would justify a pedestrian bridge? i was thinking the Montmorency falls near Quebec City, but perhaps its in the Ottawa area? French river or Ottawa river?

Daval 06-27-2006 06:25 PM

do we get a hint?

Charlatan 06-28-2006 03:42 AM

It is in the north...

Daval 06-28-2006 04:28 AM

I have no clue :P

Leto 06-28-2006 06:07 AM

Agawa Canyon ( I know, not really north)

Sticky 06-28-2006 07:26 AM

I found it...

Miles Canyon, Whitehorse -crossing the Yukon river.

Charlatan 06-28-2006 01:23 PM

Good work Sticky-san.
