nice to see someone get that one so afst...good one mr kirk.
|
I'm far too interested with each photo posted.
http://www.canadacastle.hpg.ig.com.br/d4-34.jpg from the source webpage, I would think. I also think that it is a game on with Dundurn. |
Being from Hamilton and all originally, I am surprised that anyone from Toronto figured that one out.
Have to be tougher next time. game on fres |
I've actually worked in Hamilton a few times and my brother went to McMaster, so I'm pretty familiar.
Anywho... http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...posts/1500.jpg |

You got it. I took the tour and it was really amazing. They even got the huge fly-wheels running for us. Excellent historical site.
Game on  |

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c5...4/DSCF0337.jpg Here's a slightly more challanging one. Taken by yours truly whilst suspended just outside the outriggers of the bridge. Give me the name of the bridge and what city. |
|
Very good.
Too easy again. It was built in 10 months and was under budget if you can imagine that. They worked round the clock and brought in all the steel by rail. The bride steel was fabricated by the late great "Canadian Bridge Company" of Walkerville Ontario. Here is a link to a bit of fascinating history on the bridge. http://www.toronto.ca/wes/techservic...use_panels.pdf Game on Charlatan |
A few interesting photos from the past...

This photo was taken in the late 60's when the bridge was widened. http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c5...38flooding.jpg |
I love that bridge, second only to the Prince Edward Viaduct.

Yes! (an easy one)
Game on! (by the way, I love those old photos) |
Thanks for the neat vintage photos of the Leaside, JTK. How did you get them?
Also, I like that in the Commerce Court photo, it appears that we're not supposed to notice the elephant making a dash across the background. |
The elephant is the best part!

I agree, great pictures of the bridge. This is a bridge thet I use almost daily. It is quite impressive, and the repair work seems tohave completed. I noticed that the handrail has a new design on it now. |
The photos came to me by way of my work in rehabilitating the bridge. I have a few more if you want to see them.
What amazes me is that it was built in 10 MONTHS, under budget. And trust me, the repair work is not done. In fact, it's about ready to start up again next week. Look out for more concrete barriers for at least another year. The parapet walls and railings were designed to match the originals. |
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c5...k64/bridge.jpg
Ok, keeping with my bridge theme, here's another somewhat famous one. Give me the name of the bridge and the location. PS, this one is not in Toronto |
Is that the Quebec Bridge?
Near Quebec City? |
The bridge across the Bow River in Stoney Plain, Alberta?
|

Actually, you're right, when I looked closely today, while the bridge appears to have re-opened to all of it's lanes, the pavement doesn't look like it's been given that smooth, permanent finish. So one more year? What exactly has been done/ is going to be done to the bridge to re-habilitate it? By the way, looking at the fourth black and white pic that you posted, is that the Brick Works? It looks like the whole area is flooded! ~~~~~~~ Just poking around for information of this particular bridge, I found some interesting things. This from sombody's recent blog: http://tpg1.com/blog/index.php/rob/c...idge_overpass/ Leaside bridge overpass Early this mornging, the Leaside bridge was closed. There’s no way to know for sure why (at least via the internet), but it’s a sure bet that it was due to a jumper over night. This returns us back to the old arguments against the luminous veil, the fence that has ruined the Prince Edward Viaduct. It is by most accounts ugly, morbid, and extremely expensive. The main argument against spending all that money was that people would just go to another major bridge. It appears to be happening. So now what? Spend more money and cage up another city landmark? It appears headed that way. |

QC is much bigger. Guess again. |

I have crossed this bridge many times, it's a beaut. |
With regards to Leaside, I can tell you that it will be at least another year, if not more.
The job is however going well. A great deal of steel is being replaced, as is the entire deck, and the piers are being repaired. The deck may be done in a year, but the piers and the deck will not be. Leaside is actually higher than the viaduct and yes, people are jumping off. Leaside was not closed for a jumper as per that blog however, it was closed for 15 minutes to allow the bridge to be jacked up 1/4" and the old bearings to be changed out. The logic behind the fence on the viaduct is that suicide is sometimes impulsive and it will prevent that kind of suicide. The well planned out suicide can not be stopped by a fence. Personally, I think what they did to the viaduct is quite ugly. It cost around 7 million bucks too by the way. Has it worked on the viaduct? Absolutely. Has it reduced the number of suicides, I don't know. |
The viaduct veil is ugly as sin.
I loved that bridge. I still do but it have been damaged with the addition of the veil. |
There is one like that in B.C. but its falling apart and its way higher then that one!
|
Nope, not BC
|
I recall driving across a similar bridge in Quebec, just across the Ontario border on the way to Salaberry de Valleyfield. Or am I imagining things?

He he, finally got one that didn't get answered in two minutes. As you can see from the photo, it's a significant bridge and a land mark in the area. Do you guys need a clue? |
Lion's Gate Bridge? It looks similar.
|
Nope, not even close.
Ok, Clue No. 1 It's in a Maritime province |

If I remember right, that building is on Toronto St. and started as Toronto's main Post Office, evenutally becoming the home of Hollinger Inc., Conrad Black's company.

no problemo! Looking at the old pic posted by Charlatan, it looks like they removed the embossed "Post Office" that was on the front. There's a place around the back side of this building where I get my hair cut (Ivan's on Victoria). I took this pic on the way there. |
This one might be a tough one for some. Let me know if you need a clue.

Tabor Hill Park is in Scarborough. When clearing some farm land to build a subdivision, they came across a native burial ground. They reinterned the remains in an ossuary and build a mound over it.
It is sacred ground, in the middle of Scarborough. My grandfather worked the job site where it happened. Game on Bossnass. |

I want to say, Halifax Harbour.

I want to say yes, but I would be incorrect to do so.

Will you say no to Mahone Bay, NS?

I was going to post this picture:
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...oneresized.jpg But I thought that it was too easy and since it was raining, the picture was too dismal. Although, I would have been able to say yes to mahone bay. I was also going to post this picture http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...oreresized.jpg But I thought that the reddish sand was too obvious and that the digital camera didn't do very well on the default setting. And if I had, then PEI would have been the guess I was looking for. To clarify previous hints: the water is closer to salt water than fresh water, but is still somewhere in between. Edit - I don't have a pic of Sault Ste Marie, but I think I mentioned it was east of Halifax. |

that pic is beautiful. a great shot of a beautiful location... dismal is good atmosphere. i found mine from June/2000 but it was an slr camera, and had to be scanned. definitely not as nice as yours: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...0/569cf205.jpg |

This is not in Mississauga but it is in Ontario. That's water just beyond the cyclist. It isn't a river or a lake.

Divine Inspiration, I guess. I was staring at it and zoning out, thinking: "That doesn't look like anywhere in Toronto that I know.", when it hit me. Cello's from Brampton! A quick google image search showed me the way. :D
