Yes, but what is its name?

Leto 01-06-2006 05:06 AM

JTK, i believe it is Pierced Rock in Perce Quebec? But I don't know that room that BigBen posted...

Charlatan 01-06-2006 05:29 AM

Ben... is that the ceiling of the House of Commons foyer?

BigBen 01-06-2006 06:45 AM

No, not in a Church.

Charlatan, No, not the House of Commons Foyer ceiling.

Close.

BigBen 01-06-2006 06:48 AM

Close up image, to help...

Charlatan 01-06-2006 07:19 AM

Legislative Building of Saskatchewan... in the Assembly Room? None of the pictures of the building seem to show this but one shot seems to suggest this might be the ceiling. The Sask coat of arms is a Saskatchewan give-away.

BigBen 01-06-2006 07:44 AM

Too hard, and I was in an evil mood to post that;

It is in the Parliament Building in Ottawa, and is the ceiling of the Senate. I took the close-up of the Saskatchewan coat of arms because that's where I am from, and thought it waaaaay cool.

The brilliant colours of that ceiling was supposed to lend a "Royal Air" to the room. There are also fleur-de-lis, scottish thistles and maple leaf designs throughout, signifying the founding heritages of Canada.

Very cool.

Percé Rock (pron. Pear - Say). Or as the anglos say, Percy Rock

Either way, I had never heard of it till 2000 when I was working out there and this guy I was working with (an Anglo) kept telling me, you have to see Percy Rock.

I was like WTF, it's a rock, so what.

Well, when you see it, it is quite amazing I have to admit.

Charlatan 01-06-2006 07:52 AM

Ben... National Gallery of Canada - that's the Voice of Fire.

BigBen 01-06-2006 08:11 AM

Shit. Is that Lake Louise? I want to say it is the main street, but there are waaay more shops than that.

Damn it Charlie. If you say Banff, I am going to be pissed.

Charlatan 01-06-2006 08:24 AM

Not Lake Louise...

Daoust 01-06-2006 08:27 AM

I Think It's Jasper.

Charlatan 01-06-2006 08:29 AM

Nope... not Jasper.

fresnelly 01-06-2006 08:35 AM

That's Mt. Rundle overlooking Banff. Your signature serves it well.

This was on our road trip, but I had to pull a picture off the web, because I'm at work.

Charlatan 01-06-2006 08:52 AM

Sorry Ben... it was Banff.

Dude, the folks at the National Gallery gave me a MAP of the cool art, and didn't mind a bit!!! They actually helped me, and chatted with me a bit.

I took hundreds of photos, including some Monet, Pollack, Dugas, Picasso, on and on.

I am not an expert in art, but fuck man, that place was incredible.

Charlatan 01-06-2006 10:50 AM

I love the National Gallery and make a point of going whenever I am in town... When I lived there I would go every other month and just hang out.

BigBen 01-06-2006 11:04 AM

Charlie, this game is hard.

Can we have a new thread, with really easy photos for me? I am feeling "less than average" right now.

fresnelly 01-06-2006 11:32 AM

Charlatan: That's the Real Jerk Caribbean restaurant at Broadview and Queen. W. (kitty corner to Jilly's)

Here's a really hard one for Ben :D:

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...sts/Ottawa.jpg

Charlatan 01-06-2006 11:35 AM

Go Ben! Sorry I was being a Real Jerk on that last one...

to be fair, the Real Jerk was tough one for out of towners... but I had it pegged from the first glance! Rice and Peas anyone?

never mad! post all you want to... and visit us!

Lucifer 01-07-2006 04:34 PM

Well, since Ben never said anything, and since I'm now back home on the Rock, and hooked up to my high-speed connection again, and since I want to get back in the game, and since I've got a real brain-stumping photo I picked up in Ontarry-arry-arrio I'll say ,"the Parliment Building"

Leto 01-07-2006 06:42 PM

dammit... I was going to guess that. But... which one?

Lucifer 01-08-2006 06:40 AM

It's known as the Centre Block, it has the Peace Tower in the front, thats the big thingy with the clock and the library is in the back. The center block has the senate and the house of commons

It was tough but I knew either you or Fresnelly would get it... I transfer streetcars there when I feel like it... When I took the picture of the Jerk I had just dropped my car off at the Suzuki dealership and was walking up to the Queen car.

I'm going to BOnjour Brioche in about 10 minutes too...

Cool! I'm suprised we didn't cross paths. We had a lovely brunch there this morning, and just got back.

Lucifer: I hope your not waiting for my confirmation before you post. Of course that's the Parliament buildings. How very Canadian of you. ;)

Game on!

Charlatan 01-09-2006 09:09 AM

Probably just missed each other... what a shame.

Leto... where's the next picture?

Leto 01-09-2006 09:14 AM

me?

I thought we all were waiting on Lucifer. he guessed the parliament buildings...

( i can throw one up if necessary)

Edit:
It's lunch time, so maybe not too much traffic at the moment. So if Lucifer doesn't mind, I will post a pic on his turn (he can have my next one):

this is obviously not taken today. It is from my driving trip last August (see if you can get the location without googling the name of the building):

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...0/dda3dcb1.jpg

Lucifer 01-09-2006 09:51 AM

I was actually waiting for Fresnelly to say something, only cause he bitch-slapped me on the first page of this thread, so I didn't want to be out of line again.
Leto: Founder's Hall, in Charlottetown, PEI

http://photobucket.com/albums/c363/K..._IMG_01631.jpg

Lucifer 01-09-2006 09:53 AM

that's pretty small, I'm still new at this transferring pics from camera to the net thing, so let me see if I can do better than that

Martian 01-09-2006 10:01 AM

Charlatan - Feel free to post any Lindsay pics you may have. That's my hometown and I know it better than I know the back of my hand. So you can be guaranteed someone will get it.

If I actually knew any of these, I'd probably want to dig up a picture of Kent street. It's pretty picturesque.

Lucifer 01-09-2006 10:06 AM

i just tried to do it from yahoo photos and it would'nt link, is there any chance we could get attachements enabled on this thread?

Leto 01-09-2006 12:27 PM

yes Lucifer, that's Founder's Hall in Charlottetown. By the way, I encourage everybody to take in the exhibit there. A job well done by CBC reporter Adrienne Arsenault.

Your pic looks to be one of those sidewalk art sculptures that are scattered around Toronto, but I can't determine if it is there, or another city, by the background

just to harp on this for a bit,

I was at the AGO over Christmas holidays (because my son's ARSE-HOLE of a teacher assigned a fucking massive project due on the 11th of jan - note to principal follows this post) and wanted to take pictures because he couldn't sketch the samples fast enough.

We were only allowed to snap shots, without a flash, of the Henry Moore sculpture garden room. I used my wife's phone to do it, and if i can figure out a way to get them off of the phone without costing 50 cents each (Charlatan? What's your method do you have a usb cable?) some of them may end up in this thread.

Charlatan 01-09-2006 12:40 PM

Leto, what kind of phone do you have?

Leto 01-09-2006 12:43 PM

She has the Motorola v551 (the MuchMusic edition from Rogers pay as you go plan)

Charlatan 01-09-2006 12:59 PM

Leto... bad news. Your phone can only download photos by sending them (according to the User Manual I just browsed).

Leto 01-09-2006 01:03 PM

I thought so. I looked at the manual too, but there seems to be the ability to use either a blue tooth dongle, or a usb cable (each of these cost upwards of $49).

they get you coming and going don't they?

Leto 01-10-2006 01:00 PM

**

No guesses or hints on Lucifer's pic?

fresnelly 01-10-2006 01:31 PM

There's a few of those guys around town. I think Lucifer's is on Dupont, East of Avenue road, but I'm not sure. I might just take a detour on the way to work tomorrow. :)

fresnelly 01-11-2006 09:15 AM

Nope. The spot I was thinking of, is empty.

This IS a hard one.

Leto 01-11-2006 09:22 AM

i agree. Lucifer! we need hints...

Lucifer 01-11-2006 10:32 AM

I'm just tickled to have stumped you guys. There are a few of those guys around town, I didn't know that there was one on Dupont, but I saw one in Yorkville while I was in Toronto. Big hint: (and this just really narrows it down for you guys who were paying attention in the early pages of this thread) this guy isn't in TO!

Tachion 01-11-2006 06:35 PM

Is that in Saint Johns? I can't remember the name of the premier of NewFoundland that died a few years back, Brian Peckford I think.

Its a guess because I don't remember exactly what he looked like...

Lucifer 01-12-2006 05:51 AM

mmmm, it's not in St. John's, and it's not Peckford, Tobin, or Williams. Although it does bear a striking resemblance to a stocky Smallwood

Leto 01-12-2006 06:55 AM

let me know if I am close to the mark anywhere:

- Halifax
- Charlottetown
- Saint John
- Moncton
- Fredericton

--- I don't think that the sculpture is a specific person, as the ones around toronto are fairly generic representations of rat race business men

*edit: your pic is no longer displayed....

Lucifer 01-12-2006 06:57 AM

Success! and thanks to Charlatan and Fresnelly for the tips. Does this narrow it down any?

Charlatan 01-12-2006 07:33 AM

I was going to say Coburg but went with Kingston instead. There's a Goliger's in Kingston too...

Leto 01-12-2006 07:40 AM

Well... I'll have to pull this one out of my ass and go with:

7 to 9 King Street West, Cobourg, Ontario.

Only because I can triangulate in Google.

** edit.. damn! too late. don't it figure? no action on the thread for a couple of days, and then wham! we're all here!

Charlatan 01-12-2006 08:26 AM

Sure is! I used to live in amongst those trees way in the distance.

I am surprised you got that! Great job!

Leto 01-12-2006 08:20 PM

wow. that was digging back in my memory. I used to work at a blueberry farm in Delta, and we would ride our bikes down to there, and walk them around to White Rock on the railroad tracks. (this was summer 1980). It just look so much like it.

I'm surprised myself... off to look for a pic, as I did not expect to get that.

I'm goin' with Port McNeil......on the Island.

beautiful place too i might add

Leto 01-13-2006 04:10 AM

Tachion, you have a direct hit with Gibson's. The second picture is taken from my brother's kitchen window, of Smitty's Marina (location of the Beachcombers). He also owns the float house and the two sailboats tied next to it.

The first picture is no where near Gibson's tho...

Game on Tachion (any guess on Pic # 1?)
