I think that slate roof looks like one in Gananoque Ontario.
|
Is that congregation a regular thing, or is the first picture of a special event?
|
it's a pretty regular thing in the summer time, sunday afternoons around 3, if my memory serves. We can hear the organ music from our island.
|
That would be definately in Gananoque... The Church in the shot is St. John's Catholic Church.

Correct...Continue...

Devil's Island
|
Half-Moon Bay, a large crescent-shaped inlet in the St. Lawrence River near Gananoque, Ontario
|
Technically speaking, an inlet can't be in a river! But you are correct on the name, Half-Moon Bay is on Bostwick Island in the Admiralty Group, near Gananoque.
Game On! Half Moon Bay History |

is that in the Ottawa area?
|
That's the Peacekeepers' Monument in Ottawa, at Sussex Dr. and St. Patrick.
It was unveiled in 1992 and is titled "Reconciliation" The inscription reads: "We need action not only to end the fighting but to make the peace… My own government would be glad to recommend Canadian participation in such a United Nations force, a truly international peace and police force." — Lester B. Pearson, Nov. 2, 1956 |
Here's my next one.

Is that the Wawa goose?
|
I'd say that's game on Bossnass...
|
Bossnass takes it!
|
Whoo hoo! way to go Bossnass. (it was just a matter of timing!)
|
I'm far too happy with myself for finally seeing something I recognized before someone else named it.
edit - I had to blur out a clear label. edit 2 - more sign-blocking on a second picture http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...IM0547edit.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...s/94d6e2ac.jpg |
is that a psychiatric hospital?
|
Nope. Although many post-secondary students probably think they might be a bit crazy.
|
Brandon University?
|
Nope. In a maritime province. The sign I'm standing beside says founded 1838.
|
Acadia University. Home of the Axmen... located in Wolfeville Nova Scotia.

|
Haha... nope.
|
well, I tried...
|
I was laughing because I'd forgotten about the bust in Barrie.
|
I'm pretty sure that's the Official Government Weed crop, underground in Flin Flon, Manitoba.
|
Game on Fresnelly!
(oddly when I did a Google Search the first link was to the TFP and it was something posted by me.) |
Cool!
Speaking of Secret Government labratories... What nefarious plans are they cooking up in this mysterious structure, I wonder? http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...posts/1105.jpg |
That looks like the Toronto Zoo, the African Pavilion, I think.

naa I don't think so. I don't have the vibe that it's the zoo. It looks too pointy. I'm going to go withthe Great Prairie Sod House Museum ??? |
I agree... not the Zoo. Not enough concrete for the entrance I'm thinking about and too underground.
|
Looks like the Sydney Royal Botanic Garden.

The roof of CBC headquarters at Wellington and John?
|
No. Interesting guess. Not really close.
|
That Muttart Conservatory looks really interesting. I would love to go there. Speaking of plant collections and the Toronto Zoo, On the many tours that I have taken there, they always point out that their indignous (to the various ecological zones) plant collection is by far more valuable than their animal collection.

thats not the Sleeman Brewing Company, is it?

No. Wrong province, wrong business.

The Grateful Dead Live Recording Archives?
OK, that's in the States, but it's run by a Canadian  Is this some sort of film archive? EDIT: Found it. It's the National Archives Preservation Centre in Gatineau PQ. Quote:
What job could you have had? |
Quote:
A couple of my friends who were in Film Studies landed jobs there as film archivists. Another friend was (and I think still is) a programmer for the film archives screenings. At one point I gave serious thought to following their example... instead I followed my girlfriend (now wife) back to Toronto. |
Quote:
very cool. Is this all film? is there a move to convert to digital and perhaps make it available to the public via web access? |
We're richer for it.:)
You should be able to guess the city in this photo pretty easily, but I'd like either the name of the (awesome) event, or the name of the venue. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...osts/event.jpg |
The Winnipeg Folk Festival at Bird's Hill Park

|
awesome.
I have to say, this thread is educational, AND fun! *it's very neat to see how cities such as Winnipeg, Calgary have changed since I last drove through them circa 1984... |
Right kind of event - wrong town. Look closer.
|
I'm pretty sure that's the Edmonton Folk Music Festival.
|
It's Edmonton. The Muttart Conservatory is visible in the background.
So the Edmonton Folk Festival. EDIT - Damn. Skier beat me to the punch... |
That's right Skier. And good eye Martian!
I've been to it twice and it's truly a magical musical experience. Game on... |
Alright next up:
http://www.myfilehut.com/userfiles/19800/Mountains.JPG Bonus points for where I was standing. |
Just a shot in the dark - Whistler, BC?
No idea where you'd be standing though. Them mountains, they all looks the same to me. |
Nice try, but that's not it. It is a ski resort though.

Wow, it's one I know! That's the giant nickel in Sudbury.
|
I can't imagine there are too many Canadians who couldn't get that one... but how many have actually been there?
|
I have family in Sudbury. I've seen that damn thing in person.. for some reason I didn't think it was all too impressive.
I've rarely been out of Ontario, but I've seen a lot of the towns that are here. Eventually something was going to click. |
|
That's in Lindsay, Ontario... I am there frequently enough.
|
|
Sure is... if your eyes are good enough, you may be able to make out 'Town of Lindsay' on the clock face. I left it in because I figured it was relatively obscure.
I spent many a day in my youth on Kent street, walking by that clock.. |
My brother used to cruise the strip in his black pickup truck. He'd take me along when I'd come to visit.
|
Brock? Wellington?
|
No and no. Brock is on a big pillar in Queenston. This more northerly than that.
|

|
no fair! I can't read the plaque!
is that general Brock? ** edit oops, i answered without realizing there was another page to read through. Is it a young Simcoe? |
Quote:
me too. I got a great picture of the obverse side, with my family's backs to me looking at it. haha. |
For the record... I've been to the Big Nickel too... slag heaps are nasty.
Regarding the photo: This guy is responsible for building something that has been posted in this thread. |

And I should have left here 5 minutes ago, so someone else post a new picutre please. |
Excellent Bossnass... by your request, here is another photo!

|
Well that's a little specific, no?
Green Gables, PEI? |
A masonic lodge somewhere?
|
Lucifer's House on the Rock?
(good eye on the masonic symbols, Mr. Langdon) |
It's a very famous broken window in a church. As you can see there is a silouhette of a man's head in the shards of glass remaining.
|
I'll keep looking. In the mean time, I was googling masonic lodges in Newfoundland and came across this page for the Twillingham chapter.
Their webpage showing portraits of the Grand Masters has the oddest choice of music playing the background. Click if you dare. :D http://www.newcomm.net/masonic/pmasters.htm |
that's goddamn funny!
btw: not in Newfoundland |
St. Paul's Anglican Church, Halifax. By the explosion.
