Fly 01-13-2006 06:53 AM

port hardy?

Leto 01-13-2006 06:58 AM

hint: first pic is on the east coast. It was a coast to coast posting thing

Lucifer 01-13-2006 07:08 AM

I'm going with Digby, NS for the first pic, Leto.

Leto 01-13-2006 07:09 AM

nope. digby isn't a capital city.

d'oh! I typed the quiet part loud...

splck 01-13-2006 07:42 AM

Halifax, NS?
I was in Gibsons this week, but my guess was Port Hardy.

Charlatan 01-13-2006 07:45 AM

I'll guess Fredericton, NB.

Leto 01-13-2006 07:58 AM

hmmm...

Halifax: nope

Fredericton: nope

Charlatan 01-13-2006 08:01 AM

Charlottetown, PEI

Leto 01-13-2006 08:04 AM

yep. the Marina downtown, taken from my hotel room window.

Charlatan 01-13-2006 08:41 AM

Should have guessed that right away... after all you had a hotel reservation there that kept you from seeing more of Hopewell Rocks.

Tachion 01-13-2006 08:44 AM

Real guess - never been there - Calgary?

BigBen 01-13-2006 09:01 AM

Since Calgary has been guessed already, I'll guess Edmonton. These camera angles are hard.

Charlatan 01-13-2006 09:08 AM

Nope and nope.

Here's another angle:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...1/75ebd413.jpg

Tachion 01-13-2006 09:15 AM

Hamilton?...

fresnelly 01-13-2006 09:16 AM

Downtown Saskatoon?

Leto 01-13-2006 09:21 AM

I'll go with Winnipeg, view of the Downtown.

Brilliant Idiot 01-13-2006 09:22 AM

That's a picture that might be guessed by attrition. I mean, how many places in Canada are there with sky scrapers?

I'm guessing, Winnipeg?

Charlatan 01-13-2006 09:23 AM

It's Winnipeg... but I want more specific.

Brilliant Idiot 01-13-2006 09:23 AM

OK - Leto, it's Rock Paper Scissors time! :D

Leto 01-13-2006 09:29 AM

Charlatan wants specifics, and I don't profess to know Winnipeg that well. You go for it ...

Tachion 01-13-2006 09:29 AM

Lombard and main

Charlatan 01-13-2006 09:32 AM

Nope. The windiest intersection in North America.

Tachion 01-13-2006 09:37 AM

The camera seems to be at Water and main.

Tachion 01-13-2006 09:39 AM

Looking down Portage toward main

Charlatan 01-13-2006 09:40 AM

Lucifer 01-13-2006 09:53 AM

up a tree?

Tachion 01-13-2006 09:55 AM

lol . Nope it is from a park standing on the ground very close to a major city which I would see if I turned left 90 degrees.

Leto 01-13-2006 09:57 AM

burnaby mtn (SFU)?

Tachion 01-13-2006 09:59 AM

Bingo and here it is centered on google for those interested.

Leto 01-13-2006 10:51 AM

Under Queen's quay in Toronto?

Charlatan 01-13-2006 10:57 AM

I'd say it's the Don River, where the rail lines cross.

...or where Eastern crosses the river.

The bridge in the foreground is the off ramp from the DVP and the taller one is the Eastern Street Bridge. The one beyond is the closed bridge.

Still farther...

Leto 01-13-2006 11:04 AM

but look how nice those lights are. Hardly the type to be found near the Don river, That's why I was thinking of a touristy Queen's Quay

** edit...

so maybe it's over by the Humber River. Or near Palace Pier, under lakeshore

Charlatan 01-13-2006 11:05 AM

Is that the mouth of Highland Creek... down by the water treatment plant and the rail lines?

fresnelly 01-13-2006 11:07 AM

Here's another pic, taken from about 20 feet north.

My memory is .... what was I saying..?

Leto 01-13-2006 08:42 PM

Sigh, I miss the bump.

When we were kids driving to Toronto, we always looked forward to the bump.

They should have built the bump back into the new bridges.

Montmorency Falls, near Quebec City

Charlatan 01-14-2006 03:14 PM

I would say those falls are Chute-Montmorency, near Quebec City

Splck beat me to it... damn.

Lucifer 01-14-2006 03:20 PM

I'm always after bonus points:
Built to honour local resident and world renowned test pilot, Janusz Zurakowski.

Do I get extra bonus points for actually having met Jan in person at an AVRO Arrow comemorative dinner in 1990 which was overwhelmingly well attended.

I also got to meet Dr. James Floyd, head of Engineering at Avro at the time of the Arrow, the designer of the "jetliner" the first jet powered jet aircraft ever built (and flown) in North America.

Avro ended up cutting that one up too. We Canadians never seem to be too good at marketing our discoveries.

why yes, yes you do!
