Watson Lake -- sign post forest.

Quote:

The forest was started in 1942 by a homesick U.S. Army G.I., Carl K. Lindley of Danville, Il., Company D, 341st Engineers. While working on the Alaska Highway, he erected a sign here pointing the way and stating the mileage to his hometown. Others followed his lead and are still doing so to this day. On July 20, 1990, Olen and Anita Walker of Bryan, Ohio placed the 10,000th sign. Carl K. Lindley and his wife visited the site in 1992, 50 years after his first post was erected.

I'd guess... a bridge in Toronto! haha

*has only really been in three cities in Canada*

Charlatan 12-23-2005 09:01 AM

But which one?

fresnelly 12-23-2005 09:04 AM

Hint Cello: Have you read Michael Ondaatje's In The Skin Of The Lion? It figures prominantly.

Leto 12-23-2005 09:08 AM

This is the Prince Edward Viaduct. Viewed from the near the Don River?

OKAY, since i'm pretty sure that I am correct, I'll pony up the next photo (Caution... Danger... Neophyte posting here - I hope I can do it right)

Wow I couldn't have come up with the proper name. I was going to say Danforth Ave.

Charlatan 12-23-2005 09:32 AM

It's also called the Bloor Street viaduct.

Lucifer 12-23-2005 10:03 AM

Well, it's not Sydney

feelgood 12-23-2005 10:25 AM

Smythe Street in Saint John

If that picture didn't match up with Google Earth for Sydney and Moncton, then it must be Saint John.

Leto 12-23-2005 10:29 AM

Bingo. Game On Feelgood.

It was taken on from the pedestrian overpass, going between the city hall and the mall.

On a happier note: welcome to the game Aberkok!

Being in Kingston over the holidays means I go to my parents and my significant other goes to her parents. This also means she has the camera...d'oh!! Unless y'all are happy to wait until tomorrow to continue, why doesn't someone else go in my stead...

um, this isn't part of the game, but I was at my sister's place for Boxing Day dinner today (north of Oshawa, small place called Burketon) and took some pics. The snow there is beautiful, and I wanted to share it with all of you, just because it looks so nice:

The Burketon/Port Perry/Blackstock area has some truly beautiful country. I'm quite partial to Nestleton myself. I'm actually hoping to move out that way at some point in the hopefully not-too-distant future.

At the meetup, we shared our worst job experiences. This one ranks as one of my coolest.

I worked a few days doing maintenance (changing lenses, bulbs etc...) on the big search lights that illuminate the sides of the tower at night.

One day I brought up a camera. I took a series of photos, so if you want to see more, just pm me, because I don't want to threadjack.

OK, maybe a little threadjack. ;)

In the past 10 years, "Fall Arrest" regulations and guidelines have changed A LOT, which is a good thing. At the time, we weren't wearing any sort of harnessess, but I wasn't in jeopardy. The lights are mounted inside those cylinders, which are inside the guywire fence.

The first day we were tip toeing around carefully, but by the last day, the novelty had worn off and we just went about our business. It was never that windy, because they wouldn't let us up there if the weather was bad. Interestingly, it would be windy on one side, but not the others. Also, you couldn't hear the traffic at all.

One day a big Army transport plane buzzed the tower, and on another we could see a storm front moving in (at our level) so we got the hell out of there. The underground complex was also pretty cool; kind of like being in the Death Star :)

OK two last pics:

I love this sort of thing. That area has seen so many changes in the past few years (sadly not all of it for the best).
