Good work on the Streetville Cenotaph. That was indeed a toughy.

Leto 12-21-2005 11:54 AM

it sure was. Especially since there was nothing around it to give it context...
the Chalet is tough too. The mountains in the background certainly placed it in the West Coast area.

could be Banff or Jasper...

(is it possible to get attachments activated for this thread?)

feelgood 12-21-2005 12:14 PM

It is in Banff but where exactly?

Charlatan 12-21-2005 12:18 PM

Is the the Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge?

Charlatan 12-21-2005 12:20 PM

It's Hidden Ridge...

Charlatan 12-21-2005 12:28 PM

That's the old Lifeguard building at Cherry Beach in Toronto. (great picnic spot)

Okay, here's a more difficult one from my road trip. Hint: Driving West.

Yeah, I'm holding my son in most of these pictures, so I'm cropping him out. That and the gopher (hint, hint) is HUGE! :)

Charlatan 12-21-2005 12:59 PM

took some searching but... Torrington, Alberta

This should be super easy for Leto and Fresnelly (and Janey if she's playing).

I'll take a pass on this one and share the fun, but now you've given me a craving for one of these:

Quadruple C
"Collosal Colon Clogger Combo"
24oz burger served with a quarter pound of cheese, a quarter pound of bacon, and 2 fried eggs. Also comes with a large shake (flavor of your choice) and a small poutine.
$ 20.99

or these:

The Coronary Burger Special
2 8oz Patties, 4 Slices of Bacon, 2 Slices of Cheddar and a Fried Egg on top. Served w/ Fries and Gravy, Can of Pop and Mayo as a garnish for sure!
$ 12.95

Love the food but the place is such a dump it worries me.

Leto 12-21-2005 01:28 PM

oh man, is that , could it be Jilly's???

PS, if I'm right, I'll have to pass because i still haven't figured out how to post a pic.

Lucifer 12-21-2005 06:41 PM

Holy Crap! Why aren't we having the Toronto meetup at that place?

Because some of us require our hearts to function

Charlatan 12-22-2005 05:42 AM

Yes... that was the New Broadview Hotel. Home of Jilly's, one of the seediest strip clubs in the city. It is such a beautiful building though.

Leto... I will send you a PM on how to post a picture. In the meantime, here is another photo.

Lucifer 12-22-2005 05:44 AM

I posted this at the same time as Chalatan posted his, so here's an edit:
Fountain at the Eaton's Center. (is it still called that?)

Charlatan 12-22-2005 05:56 AM

Never been there but when I was sent the script for Shattered City they sent me some picutres of it... it's the Memorial to the Halifax Explosion... in Halifax.

Lucifer 12-22-2005 06:01 AM

damn, you're good. I was going to use the explosion window instead, but I figured it was too local.

Charlatan 12-22-2005 06:20 AM

Nope... try again.

fresnelly 12-22-2005 06:25 AM

Leto 12-22-2005 07:12 AM

hmmm... is it possbile to past a pic into Google, and do a search...

hmmmm a toughie...

Lucifer 12-22-2005 07:33 AM

You can link directly from the webpage. Right click on the photo that you want, and select properties. Highlight the address and select copy. Instead of clicking "post quick reply", hit "go advanced". Select the insert image button and paste the address from your photo. voila!

Charlatan 12-22-2005 07:44 AM

World's Largest Fly Fishing Rod in Houston, BC... flyman should have been able to get that one.

cellophanedeity 12-22-2005 09:29 AM

That's the skyline of Toronto, but I don't know if you want to know where the photo is taken from...

(CN tower, Scotia building, BMO building)

Charlatan 12-22-2005 09:32 AM

Where am I standing?

fresnelly 12-22-2005 11:13 AM

Somewhere on the east side of the Don Valley, north of the core. Riverdale Park between Gerrard and Danforth?

Charlatan 12-22-2005 11:14 AM

Yep... it is one of my favourite views of the city and I get to see it just about every day.

feelgood 12-22-2005 11:17 AM

I'm trying to pinpoint where you're standing by using Google Earth and it looks like you're standing in a residential area or a local park

Does that narrow it down?

Edit: Must refresh page before posting

I'll take that as a "close enough"

Here's where we turned around on our road trip:

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...posts/9c73.jpg

Charlatan 12-22-2005 11:35 AM

oops... the "yep" was to Riverdale Park.

Charlatan 12-22-2005 12:07 PM

It's a ferry dock in BC (the going west thing) but I have no idea which one.

I'm all confused because there is a disembodied Fresnelly head to guide the way...

Vancouver?

Nope. The name of the ship is written on the side of the wheelhouse. If you can read it, you should be able to figure it out. :)

Charlatan 12-22-2005 12:25 PM

I just can't read it on my screen. I've tried.

Lucifer 12-22-2005 12:52 PM

me neither, even tried the windows magnifier thingy

Charlatan 12-22-2005 12:58 PM

Shit... when our resident salty dog doesn't get a boat (ship?) reference...

Where are the players from BC?

Lucifer 12-22-2005 01:04 PM

Hey, I can tell you more about ships/boats than you can believe, but I can't do much with some blurry writing on the side of some wheelhouse somewhere in the west of Canada.

Charlatan 12-22-2005 01:07 PM

I figured you could just look at that yellow smokestack and say... "Why that's the Prince Rupert express".
