Yes, and I like Sheryl's better. It's based on Rod Stewart's version. It kinda picks up where he left off.

KWSN 04-22-2004 02:04 PM

not too big a fan of sheryl crow or rod stewart myself but i like cat stevens.... though not necessarily that particular song

anyway, for a new question...

A certain MORON when covering a classic rock song recently, failed to spell the writer of the song's name correctly in the liner notes for the album the cover was released on.

Name the MORON, the song, and the original writer of the song

(HINT: The song was on an album that was almost called "Panty Sniffer" but had its name changed to "Bipolar" and then finally to "Results May Vary")

Sion 04-22-2004 09:16 PM

just taking a guess here, but I'll say the moron was Limp Bizcit's resident idjit Fred Dursht [sic], which would make the song "Behind Blue Eyes" by Pete Townshend. Lemme guess, he spelled it without the h, right?

KWSN 04-23-2004 03:29 AM

bingo, Sion. Your go.

Sion 04-23-2004 08:15 AM

HA! finally I get to use one of the great questions Ive been sitting on.

What is the most covered song in pop music history?

Derwood 04-23-2004 08:28 AM

"Yesterday" by the Beatles?

Sion 04-23-2004 08:52 AM

yes Derwood.

damn that was too quick.

Booray 04-23-2004 07:42 PM

damn, I knew that one. Can't remember where I heard that before.

perripken 04-24-2004 02:34 AM

We need a question Derwood

perripken 04-24-2004 11:19 AM

IS THERE A DERWOOD IN THE HOUSE!???????

Sion 04-24-2004 12:06 PM

since its been over 24 hours since derwoods correctly answered my question without posting a new one, Im gonna jump in with another (in his stead), just to keep things moving. should it prove to be a stumper, rights to the next question should revert to Derwood.

The cover of Blind Faith's only album (click link below) featured a topless image of whose 11 year old daughter?

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bean95/...ges/22432f.jpg

God of Thunder 04-25-2004 05:52 PM

The only story I remember about that photo was that they convinced her to pose for the picture by promising to buy her a horse.

I don't remember whose daughter she was. I'm going to guess Ginger Baker's.

Sion 04-26-2004 07:47 AM

correct GoT.

God of Thunder 04-26-2004 10:23 AM

Cool, I've been pretty lucky on the guesses lately.

Lets see......reaches don into the "Bag O' Trivia" and pulls out...

Who wrote Patsy Cline's famous hit "Crazy"?

perripken 04-26-2004 10:49 AM

Mr. Willie Nelson I do believe.

perripken 04-26-2004 12:48 PM

I checked out my answer on Google, and I'm correct.
New question:

What album did Ronnie Montrose help out on before starting his band Montrose with Sammy Hagar?

New question:

I have no idea.

KWSN 04-26-2004 05:02 PM

It could be one of many. Is it Van Morrisson's Tupelo Honey in question?

perripken 04-26-2004 05:16 PM

No, actually he did guest appearance on Tupelo Honey and St. Domic's Preview. However, I'm talking an album right before the Montrose album. It wasn't a Van Morrison album, and it wasn't a guest appearance. He actually joined this group.

KWSN 04-26-2004 05:38 PM

In that case... got me.

pan6467 04-26-2004 06:45 PM

It's either Herbie Hancock or Edgar Winter. Neither very big but 2 interesting artists.

Love those underrated groups.

Derwood 04-26-2004 08:39 PM

Sorry for going AWOL guys. I totally forgot that I even answered that question :(

perripken 04-27-2004 10:36 AM

You're correct with Edgar Winter Group Pan 6467. That's Ronnie playing the awesome leads on Frankenstein. You're question!

pan6467 04-27-2004 02:38 PM

Before Billy Joel went solo what 2 bands was he in?

Both recorded and 1 was in the (very late 60's very early 70's) a huge underground band in NYC.

perripken 04-28-2004 02:38 PM

Well Pan6467,looks like a stumper. I'd be interested to know the answers-

pan6467 04-28-2004 03:16 PM

The hot LI band was called the Hassles, and actually had a decent selling album but broke up before they hit it big. Joel and drummer Jon Small left and formed a very metal band called Atilla. They made an album where Joel and Small dressed as huns on the cover, it was a horrid album in sales and production. But the reason Atilla broke up was Joel ended up having an affair with Small's wife, who became Joel's first wife.

Jon Small later worked with Joel as road manager, production coordinator and so on.

Ok...... 1 more Billy Joel question. before Turnstyles Joel used pretty much session players and didn't have a true band. Who was the first true permanent band member? (This band member pretty much brought in the rest by his advice and recommendations to Billy.)

KWSN 04-28-2004 06:07 PM

I'd love to say Phil Ramone but I know that can't be right...

God of Thunder 04-29-2004 03:21 AM

Phil Ramone was Blly's producer for a long time, but I think the first real band member was Liberty DeVito, his drummer.

pan6467 04-29-2004 10:21 AM

Bingo GOT................ Libert Devito was the man who brought in probably Billy's best version of his band, Doug Stegmeyer, Ritchie Canata, Russell Javors, and the David Brown . Ramone I think didn't produce for Billy until the Stranger.

A lot of people give Ramone the credit for Joel's rise but in my opinion he had one of the greatest bands assembled during his high years (1976 Turnstyles-1986 The Bridge)and Liberty is a tremendously underrated drummer.

Your question GOT

Allright, here's an easy one. Hands on buzzers. Lets see who can answer first.

Who sang back up on Dire Straits' hit "Money for Nothing"?

(I've been watching the Game Show Network too much)

perripken 04-29-2004 11:20 AM

Sting, correct?

God of Thunder 04-29-2004 11:29 AM

Somehow I figured you would be first to buzz in.

Yes it was Sting singing the "I Want My MTV" in the background.

perripken 04-29-2004 12:41 PM

Ok, I haven't had a stumper for a while (there are some real music officianado's in here)(did I spell that right?) I'm going to try a tough one.

perripken 04-30-2004 01:15 PM

Well, Mr. Thunder, technically this is now a stumper. I'm going to give you until 5:45 to answer it. You said you know the answer.

perripken 04-30-2004 01:51 PM

Mr. Dante was also known as the voice for the cartoon lead singer, Archie of "The Archies". Thanks GOT, it's been a while since I stumped anyone and I was starting to get a complex! :D

To stay with the theme;
Who was the promoter who launched the Archies career?

Hint: Same as the Monkees

perripken 04-30-2004 05:27 PM

I'm going to pm GOT with the answer to this question since I won't be able to check back until monday. He probably knows the answer anyways.

God of Thunder 04-30-2004 05:52 PM

Yes I do. My wife is a big Monkees fan.

Sorry I didn't get to the other answer, I was out to dinner.

And thanks for putting "Sugar Sugar" in my head all f'ing day as well. :D

perripken 05-03-2004 01:08 PM

I don't know the answer Sion, but since it's been over 24 hours since Pan checked in, We'll give it to ya. Your question.
We really need to keep this thing moving.

Sion 05-04-2004 02:22 AM

this is probably a repeat (and certainly is a very easy lob) but its almost 630am and Im tired and cant come up with anything else.

late 70's in S. California: local party band Mammoth hooks up with a virtuoso guitarist (and his drummer brother) and gets a demo produced by a founding member of a notorious make-up wearing hard rock act. that demo got them a record deal and the rest is history.

fill in the missing details

Jadedfox 05-04-2004 02:52 AM

Van Halen

God of Thunder 05-04-2004 04:16 AM

Good job Jadedfox, you're up.

Some of the missing details are that when Gene Simmons heard them play, he shopped around their demo. When he took it to Casablanca, they passed, so he went to Warner Brothers.

WB hooked them up with Ted Templeman. They still needed a singer, so Ted suggested Sammy Hagar who he had been working with in Montrose at the time.

I think everyone knows the rest of that story.

But, enough of that, quiz away JF.

Jadedfox 05-04-2004 05:05 AM

Oops, sorry forgot I had to come up with a question!

This might be a repeat from elsewhere in the thread but...here goes:

Originally from Sevenoaks, England these two brothers recorded their first single in 1989 which forever changed the electronic music scene.

Few bands have a sound that is strictly unique and this duo has just that. A sound they can call their own. But they are not bound to just that. They are known for their remixes as well, including Madonna's "Bedtime Stories".

What is the band?

I was beginning to think us old farts were asking all the questions.

GOT you have most of it right but Roth was already in the band so Tempelman didn't suggest Sammy.

Actually after Roth left/was fired depends on whose side you believe, Eddie and Sammy had the same mechanic and met and Eddie asked Sammy if he would sit in as a guest artist.

The original lineup of Van Halen is probably the greatest of any rock band. Alex very very underrated as a drummer (course Keith Moon would have been with Eddie playing guitar.) Micheal Anthony a damn good bassist and then one of the greatest if not the greatest guitarist in that generation EDDIE, and finally the frontman Jagger wished he could have been 1/2 the man of, the man Axl couldn't hold a jockstrap to, the man that defined sex, drugs and rock and roll, the greatest frontman EVER in any band................. DIAMOND DAVID LEE ROTH, it's a shame his ego got so big.

Sammy was good and the band had more hits with him and better selling records but live noone touched DLR.

PS.......... Sorry to hijack the thread but Van Halen is my 2nd favorite band behind the KINKS. And I wanted to set the record straight.

God of Thunder 05-06-2004 03:40 AM

You are right, but Sammy was suggested as the lead singer BEFORE Roth joined. He was ready to leave Montrose, but chose his solo career instead.

Years later, as fate would have it, Sammy joined through the advice of his mechaninc. As you pointed out.

The details of the early days Mamoth/Van Halen are talked about in Gene's autobiography.

Sion 05-06-2004 09:39 AM

interesting. I was always under the impression that Mammoth was Roth's band at first, until Eddie and Alex joined. Turns out not to be the case. here is how AMG describes those early years:

"The brothers began a hard rock band called Mammoth and began playing around Pasadena, eventually meeting David Lee Roth. At the time, Roth, who had been raised in a wealthy Californian family, was singing in Redball Jet. Impressed by the Van Halen brothers, he joined forces with the group. Shortly afterward, bassist Michael Anthony, who was singing with Snake, became a member of Mammoth. After discovering that another band had the rights to the name Mammoth, the group decided to call themselves Van Halen in 1974, rejecting the proposed Rat Salade. For the next three years, Van Halen played throughout Pasadena, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles, playing both clubs and hotel bars. The band's repertoire covered everything from pop and rock to disco, but they eventually worked in their own original material. Within a few years, they had become the most popular local band in Los Angeles, and Eddie became well known for his groundbreaking technique. In 1977, Kiss' Gene Simmons financed a demo recording session for Van Halen after seeing them at the Starwood Club. On the strength of Simmons' recommendation, Mo Ostin and Ted Templeman signed Van Halen to Warner Bros., releasing the band's debut the following year."

no mention of Sammy though.

Wasn't well know then. Templeman never made it public knowledge that he preferred Sammy over Dave. It was never an interesting side note until Sammy actually joined the group.

The way Gene made it sound in his story was that it was more of a behind-the-scene decision that even the band didn't know about. Like I said earlier, it was kind of a moot point, because Sammy wasn't interested in it at the time.

What is more interesting is that Templeman was so eager to replace Roth, but sided with him when he left the group and produced most of his solo stuff.

But enough thread-jacking. This is about trivia and it looks like iamtheone has the correct answer and is up to bat.

iamtheone 05-07-2004 07:05 AM

Sepultura's first release, "Bestial Devastation", is a split LP with fellow Brazilian band Overdose. "Bestial Devastation" only refers to the Sepultura half of the album. What is the name of Overdose's part?

The lyrics to what song from Led Zeppelin describes an episode in which John Paul Jones inadvertantly picked up a drag queen?

KWSN 05-08-2004 05:27 PM

hate to shoot your question down so early but the answer is Royal Orleans

and because I know it's right, I'll go with my own...

Fill in the blank at the end of this sentence:

If you were in a hardcore or punk band in the New York City area during the '90s, chances are you or a band you knew recorded a demo with producer ___________

God of Thunder 05-10-2004 10:25 AM
