Lenny Kravitz.
|
Correct, next time I'll have to go with 'easy' instead of 'easy EASY.' :P
Jdoe |
"Justify My Love" was co-written by Madonna and Lenny Kravitz.
It's funny about the Billy Gibbons thing, because I have heard that Hendrix had heard of him when he was just a young blues player in Texas. As a matter of fact my snopes link above says that he mentioned Billy during an interview on the Dick Cavett Show. Next question, also an easy one. Speaking of Lenny Kravitz, who was his famous mom? |
Quote:
Roxie Roker I remember seeing her on Amazon Women on the Moon. Unforgetable. My Turn? O.K. Name the two members of Santana who left to form another famous San Francisco band |
This question is covered already, in the first question asked when the thread started.

what was johnny cash's first single ever released? it was released on "sun records"! |
I walk the line?
|
Quote:
Remember the whole Sam Phillips discussion before? I don't know the answer, but I don't think it was I Walk The Line. |
it was NOT i walk the line!
keep trying though! |
Hey SLIMM, it's good to see some new blood in here. I wouldn't know the answer to this one without looking it up and cheating, therefore- I pass.
|
im a music geek so im loving this!
when should i give the answer? did everyone give up? |
"Hey Porter"

What an easy question... Now you'll have to Cry! Cry! Cry! while you figure out my hard and obscure question...
The 1984 Album "City Baby's Revenge" included a cover attributed to the Stooges. Upon listening to the track it is obvious that it is IN fact a homage to yet another group. What group is it and what song by that group off of what album? Bonus pts: What is the original song title of the Stooges cover? |

Ok, my turn. You know Axl Rose was part of the namesake of Guns 'N Roses. Who was the other original namesake member of GNR & what band did he go on to form? |

BIG HINT
The band was GBH and they were tecnnically doing a cover of a cover... |
ahhhhh!!!! I haven't heard that damn album since high school!!! :D
but yeah Astrocloud that's I Feel Alright, from GBH, and the original is 1970 I Feel Alright from the Stooges (fun house). unless you're talkin bout the Damned (Damned Damned Damned) who covered them too (ok i had to google that one, to remember the album title..do i still get points???:D) i think the stooges were way ahead of their time, and the MC5 too!! man it's wacked out that i actually got all those records Here's my question: Which legend of reggae music made a tune, which I thought of right away (but is not in any way related, go figure...) also called "I Feel Alright"?? |
In my opinion the Motor City Five were furthur ahead of their time then almost any band has ever been. I have a hard time even thinking of any close to them.
Jdoe |
I'll ignore the fact that I answered the "Justify My Love" question correctly but never got to ask a question of my own. You all owe me one.
|
ok,im no reggae fan but i will make a guess!
lets start with the obvious bob marley? |
Quote:
Maybe that song is too obscure to be recognizable so I've got a punk question for you all tonight if no one gets it. |
Quote:
Here's a better question: what's the name of Henry Rollins' first band? punk/hardcore on a famous DC record label. Name the label if you can, at least, but I'll be real impressed if anyone knows the band.... |
wasnt it something like hot animal or something along those lines?
|
Quote:
i'll take a stab with Black Flag and i don't know the label. correct? |
Quote:
This was his first band, before Black Flag, on the same label and about the same time as Minor Threat. The record label's based in Washington DC and is well known in punk rock...it was founded by Ian McKaye of Minor Threat and Fugazi. |
S.O.A. on Dischord?
|
i got something of his called,"hot animal" but i think thats spoken word though! i cant remember cause its been so damn long!
|
Quote:
Hell yea!!! Sion you got it, it was State of Alert on Dischord records. For all of you into really into punk and hardcore, you should pick up Dischord 1981: The Year in 7"s, it's a great compilation |
Quote:
That's probably Hot Animal Machine Got a trivia question for us Sion?? |
To stick with the rules of this forum and keep this thing moving along, I'll restate that a new question needs to be asked within 12 hours of correctly answering it.
With that said, I think it's only fair to have Fearless_Hyena ask a new question. And please folks, make sure you read at least a few of the previous reply's so that we don't get more than one question at a time! Thanks- Perripken (thread originator) |
Quote:
In any case, I'm new to the thread so I 'm trying to play by the rules, and I hope my stuff's not too obscure... New Question: Which band's amps "go to 11"? (This is an absurd joke referring to the volume knob on a guitar amp) :D |
Quote:
Spinal Tap To keep with the theme: The small stonehenge joke in the movie was a parody of what band's failed stage act? |
Quote:
sorry, I didnt check back in time. besides which, I cheated and did some research on AMG.com (all music guide). even still, I wasnt sure. so no biggie, I didnt earn a question. |
Coming up on the 24-hour mark.
Hint: The one time lead singer of the band now has his own reality show. |
damn,im stumped on this one!
|
BLACK SABBATH???
|
Quote:
The Stonehenge joke in Spinal Tap is a reference to Black Sabbath's attempt to use the monuments in their stage show. They used props that were too large and apparently too heavy. While rehearsing for the tour, the staged buckled under the weight and the props were then put away and never used. You're up jimk. |
ok.........
Q. what is the hidden track on the clash's london calling album? |
Wow, hidden tracks back then.
/me wishes he kept some of his old albums. |
Quote:
I'll try & think of a question...give me a sec... |
OK, I've got one.
Uncle Kracker recently covered "Drift Away" by Dobie Gray. However, Dobie didn't write the song & it wasn't written for him originally. Who was it written for & how did Dobie Gray come to be the one to record it? |
123123, i did not know about the lock track thingy.....my old vinyl didn't have that.
|
Yeah...I'd heard of "lock grooves" before, but not with the Clash. Then I guy I work with brought in a copy that had one.
So...no takers on the question? Need a hint? You'll kick yourself when you hear the answer... |
Quote:
|
I'm back..... and I know this one. Dobie Gray was friends with songwriter, Paul Williams, who's brother was also a songwriter and producer. His brother, Mentor Williams wrote the song and asked Dobie Gray to sing it and he'd produce the album.
That's the story, and I'm stickin' to it! |
next question:
Who helped Guns n Roses write the classic song "You could be mine"? |
Quote:
New question: Before settling on the name Pink Floyd, the band tried several other names. One name ended up being used by a popular heavy metal band (though in a slightly different form). What is that name? |
Quote:
Granted, I did have some inside info on that question...Uncle Kracker told me that story when I interviewed him a couple months ago...but good job perripken. |
So is my Pink Floyd question the currently active question?
|
Quote:
|
well it's been over 24 hours, so I guess it's officially a stumper.
One of Pink Floyd's original names was the Megadeaths. Alright, an easier one: What famous songwriter helped pen Elivs Costello's hit "Veronica"? |
paul mccartney
|
Correct. High_way's turn to ask.
|
ok here is an australian
28 days have released 2 albums, both of which have the same amount of songs on them. how many songs are on each of them? |
do you want a hint, or do u want me to ask another question?
|
7?
|
no and it has been over 24 hrs so i will answer it
28 on each cd here is a simply one which city and country was flea from rhcp born in? |
Melbourne, Australia?
|
yeah it is
your question costello |
k staying with red hot chili peppers ...
when rhcp first started out in the garage, what was their original name? |
luke-warm chili con carne?
|
Cute Sion!,
Excuse my absense, but all hell has broken loose here- just checkin' in to see what's happening. I don't know the answer to the RHCP question, but I love them. Hey, it's great to see this thread doing so well! G.O.T., are you still out there? I won't be able to check in as often until I get my shit together around here. |
I'm still here. I poke my head in to check on it on a regular basis.
I just haven't known the answers to the latest batch of questions though. But, I'm learning a lot :D I have a couple of questions waiting for when I do know the answer. |
I'm learning too, guess that's what it's all about,eh?
Looking forward to seeing your questions. |
umm i didnt think they had a name before they formed but i am pretty sure that slovak and/or irons played in a band called what is this and that flea played in fear before forming chili peppers. not sure about keidus
|
TFMMMM!?
Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem? |
eh high_way is close enough i suppose. flea played with slovak and irons in a band called anthem (fleas first band), but they later changed their name to what is this. flea then quit and joined fear, and later was playin some funky basslines with anthony, who he had met in a highschool fight. anthony said he had a rap that went with the line, and it ended up becoming "out in l.a.". they invited irons and slovak to come play with them, and called themselves tony flow and the miraculously majestic masters of mayhem. they then changed their name to the red hot chili peppers. your two responses delt with the answer in some way, and thats how it went down. peace :)
|
yeah that was a hard one costello, but i liked it. i dont have a quesiton and you got the right answer technically, so it is your quesiton Chingal0
|
We need a question, Chinagal0
|
umm seen as chinagal0 hasnt asked a question yet i am goin to ask another one
keeping with the australian theme (i love aussie music) where did the band GRINSPOON get their name from? |
Quote:
Grinspoon got their name from a pro-marijuana activist named Dr. Lester Grinspoon. Dr. Grinspoon supports the use of marijuana for medical purposes, and has shown an interest in the progress of the band. |
OMG i thought i lost!..... now i feel like shit for keeping you all hanging! ... ok here we go..
Milli Vanilli. What were the names of the ACTUAL singers? |
To answer Chinagal0's question, it is Rob Pilatus and Fabrice Morvan.
That makes two questions active though, so I will allow high_way's question about Grinspoon to be active. It looks like OFKOU has answered, but we need confirmation if it is correct before we get the next question. Sorry chinagal0, the rules imposed by perripken set a time limit on questions and answers. |
yeah it is correct. sorry GOT i thought if we new the answer was correct we were to just ask a new question.
my bad, i saw it there and didnt know the answer to chinagal0's question so kept my mouth shut and hands off the keys sorry guys |
You were OK to ask the question high_way based on the time limits.
And since OFKOU's answer is correct. I'll let him ask the next one. If he doesn't come up with one. I will for answering chinagal0's question. |
Ok. After Led Zeppelin I, the band briefly thought of replacing Robert Plant as vocalist. Who was the frontrunner to replace Plant?
|
barry gibb.
|
Quote:
|
My guess is Eric Clapton because of the Yardbirds connection.
|
umm
the lead singer of white snake? |
Quote:
I don't know if that's the right answer, but that's who you mean. |
yeah david caverdale
thanks got, had a bit of a mind blank |
GD im like 2 steps behind.... I apologize!
edit: I have no idea.. continue! |
I'll tell at 11 pm if no one answers correctly.
|
The man in question is English singer Steve Marriot. Others considered were Steve Winwood and Tim Rose whom either couldn't do it or wouldn't do it. Plant stayed on after Jimmy heard 'Thank You'. Marriot died in a house fire a few years ago.
Here's a bonus. When Page checked into hotels he often registered under the alias James MacGregor. Ok,.. Someone else take a turn asking. |
My shot for answering chinagal0's Milli Vanilli question.
What was the name of Bob Seger's first band? |
The first one I know about was "The Bob Seger System"
Were there any before that? ......Man....I wish he'd tour again, I never saw him. |
I've seen him four times :p
But enough teasing. Yes The Bob Seger System was his first band. I have cousins old enough to have seen him tour with The System along with the Amboy Dukes in this area. |

If I had only been born about ten years earlier, I could have went with him. He tells me all the time how cool it was to see some of those guys come through here during the heydays. KISS, Ted, Bob, Grand Funk and even Alice Cooper all used to play the Flint area bars all the time. |
Interesting that this thread came to this.... I'm a little older than you obviously, but, Alice Cooper was my first concert... 12 years old I was! New Years eve in Buffalo, New York. I'll have a new question in a few minutes. Gotta think....

The Marshall Tucker Band enjoyed much success from the mid 70's to early 80's. Two of the founding members(brothers) have passed away. Bass player Tommy Caldwell was killed in a dirt bike accident on his farm (although I've heard conflicting reports of a jeep accident) His brother Toy Caldwell, the awesome guitar player, who wrote and sang "Can't you see" succumbed to heart disease in the early 90's. There is one original member left. Can anyone name him?
