BTW G.O.T., Great question- He was the first concert I ever attended, but I'm not going to participate, let someone else!
|
I never can stump you, can I??
|
well, i AM going to answer the question, just because I can.
Vincent is better known around the world as none other than Alice Cooper. here's another real name question: what volatile hard rock front man was named William Bailey by his parents? |
Quote:
|
Isn't William Bailey...Axel Rose?
|
rideough, you are correct
|
OK...another original name question...
Who is known by his mum and dad as John Baldwin? |
That would be John Paul Jones
AKA - JPJ AKA - The GOD of bass playing. New question, new direction. Lets see who knows their country music, just to be different. What multi-platinum country artist started his career with The Pure Prarie League? |
was it garth brooks?
i hate country music with a vengence and he is the only country music artist i know of. |
Quote:
Hints to come later. |
George Strait?
|
Sorry GOT, I have to answer this one because I met him when I was a Bellman at a local hotel when the League came for a concert. I carried in all the bands luggage and they paid me $20 and gave me two tickets to their show. I'm sure you are looking for Vince Gill. I will wait for your confirmation!
|
Quote:
No hints needed I guess. You're question. |
I'm going to throw out a relatively easy one. My mind is kinda fried from the long work week last week and the crazy weekend I had. Here goes:
What is the name of the frontman for Audioslave who used to be in Soundgarden. |
Chris Cornell
|
You are correct notaneel, next question is yours
|
Calling Dr. Notaneel, please report to Music Trivia. Dr. Notaneel, please report to Music Trivia.
|
According to Music Trivia rules notaneel has until 8:09 am wednesday Jan 28 to ask the next question. We're appx. a half hour from that. If he doesn't ask one, I throw it out to the first person who would like to ask one.
|
Well, I'm going to go for it because I thought of a good one. One that hopefully will even keep perripken busy thinking for awhile.
For Boston's 1986 release "Third Stage", guitarist Gary Pihl came aboard at the very end to help with a couple songs. He also joined them on tour. What made Gary "suddenly available" as Tom Scholz put it in the liner notes? |
I had to "cheat" for this answer, therefore, I won't compete!
|
Actually, I saw him with his previous gig, but didn't really know it!
|
Quote:
I stumped perripken I stumped perripken I stumped perripken /does a little happy dance :D Anyway, as he mentioned Gary spent quite a bit of time with another artist. Figure out who that was and you'll know what transpired to help him join Boston. |
Thanks for the smile G.O.T., I needed it today!
|
Quote:
|
OK, looks like hint time.
To know where Gary played before Boston, think of the color red and the number 55. |
Quote:
I'm guessing the hint refers to Sammy Hagar's "I cant drive 55." If that's correct, then the reason Gary was free to play with Boston would be Sammy's joining Van Halen. The timing (1986) is right, am I? |
That is correct.
Gary had met Scholz previously when the two bands had toured together and they remained friends. Sammy split and left the rest of the band high and dry so Gary called up Tom and asked to join. He's been with them ever since. You're up Sion. |
What is the only Yes album that does not feature Jon Anderson on vocals?
|
Man... without looking, I can't remember the name of the album, but I do know it was the one before 90125, because that is the album when Jon rejoined.
|
That's the same thing I was thinking.
***Must resist urge to cheat!!!!*** Yeah, that didn't last long. I cheated and I don't remember that album. Must be because Jon wasn't on it. |
I can see the album, but can't remember the name:{
|
Sion, you have stumped the panel. I'm going to die when you reveal the album name!
|
and the answer is.....
(drumroll) Drama, released in 1980. perhaps the most overlooked album of their entire discography, but a worthy and excellent album it is, though Trevor Horns vocals take a bit of getting used to. I give perripken half credit for this answer: "I can't remember the name of the album, but I do know it was the one before 90125, because that is the album when Jon rejoined." which is correct, though it lacks the actual title of the album. your question perripken |
*thud* (the sound of me hitting the floor after the massive coronary)
I'm going to let someone else take the next question. I'm kinda in a hurry. I'm getting picked up in a couple hours for the Sabres Rangers game tonight. Center ice seats, five rows behind the penalty box. Yee Hah! See ya soon trivia heads! |
Well....back from the game and no takers, so here goes:
Since I was in Buffalo, I'll use a Buffalo connection. What was the name of the great bass player from Buffalo who played for David Lee Roth's solo venture? |
That was Billy Sheehan, he also played for Mr. Big and at one time dated porn actress Savannah.
OK they say to stick with what you know, which for me is KISS. Drummer Peter Criss was not on the 1980 flop "Unmasked". Which session drummer filled in anonymously for Criss? Hint, it was not Eric Carr, who officially joined the band for the next studio flop, "Music From The Elder" |
total guess here: Anton Fig (who later when on to play in Frehleys Comet and David Letterman's band)?
|
Quote:
He actually first played with Ace on his solo album. KISS didn't admit it at the time because they still thought they could lure Peter back. Once they figured out Peter was gone, they held open auditions, because Anton was already working for Letterman. Damn good drummer too by the way. |
actually, now that you mention it, I did know that Fig played on Ace's solo album, just didnt think of it at the time.
and yeah, Anton can thump with the best of em. ok, next question: reverse real name: who is Gordon Sumner? (real easy one) |
Actually I think we've had this one already in here. I know it's hard to remember all what's been asked with 16 pages of trivia.
edit: Yes it was. It seems familiar, because it turns out I was the one who asked it on the first page, just in the reverse. |
I have one......... This band was forbidden to tour with the Beatles because when they did the crowd would boo the Beatles offstage and want this band back on........ No not the Stones
|
It seems we have a little dilema here. Sion asked a question which was already asked, but in reverse order. I don't really think it's fair as GOT says, to expect people to read all the pages of this trivia. Therefore, I think it's a valid question. The other part of the dilema is that Pan6467 has asked a question without answering one. To me it's always good to see new blood in here, so I'm asking Mr. Sion, sir, could we let Pan6467's question stand?
I would also suggest that Pan6467 check out the thread rules. I'm not sure what page they're on, I'll have to go back and check. |
Quote:
|
I agree, let the current question stand. I like fresh meat, er I mean new people in the thread.
btw, good question, I'm a big Beatles fan and don't know the answer. |
I do appologize for just jumping in...... and I will give a proper hint...... this band was banned from the US for 2 years in the late 60's and therefore never truly reached the commercial success they deserved.
|
the yardbirds?
i dont think they got banned but they are the only band i can think of at the moment and yeah GOT is right, good quesion |
No not the Yardbirds.
This band became predominantly British in its music after it was banned by the US Musicians Unions (various reasons as to why..... ) Thank you for appreciating the question. |
Banned in the US, and wasn't allowed to open for The Beatles??????
Auuuuugghhhhhh!!!! Damn it, this is killing me!!!! |
I am ok with letting the current question stand, especially as I dont know the anwer.
the answer to my question was, of course, Sting. but im sure most of you knew that. I would have responded to this last night, but my ISP decided to pick that time to freak out. |
Thanks a bunch Sion!
|
I second the thanks Sion, and I hope you didn't take my comment about your question as rude or anything.
I know it is hard to remember what has been asked in here. Hell, I didn't even remember that I was the one who originally asked it until I looked it up. |
Ok last clue this should give it away.............. during a fight onstage in the 60's the drummer threw a cymbal at the lead guitarist (and lead singer's brother) and left him unconcious on the stage. The drummer found later had been scared he'd killed the guitarist. This started the rumors (often true rumors) of the fighting and hatred that was in the group, which weirdly enough through it all stayed together till 1998 and today they are talking of reforming.
|
The Kinks???????
|
You are correct. The Kinks were the only band the Beatles refused to tour and/or share a stage with because the Kinks would work the crowd into a frenzy with thier music and stage antics. In those days all the bands would pretty much tour together. Can you imagine seeing the Beatles, Stones, High Numbers/Who, Kinks and Moody Blues together on the same bill?
Of course each band except the main band would only play for 15-20 minutes........... |
PS sorry for the shameless plug but being a Kink FanatiK I just had to share.
|
Not at all, great trivia question and welcome to our board!
By the way, didn't Dave Davies just get shot? |
Thank you for the reception, promise no more Kinks questions
No that was Ray. He was shot in New Orleans as he chased the man who stole his lady friends purse. From info they say it was not major and Ray is doing great. Guess one of those kids in Father Christmas got a gun so he could scare all the other kids on the block. Have hope have faith have love, Phil the mad Heretic |
Quote:
But back to the real point. I got the question right. Well, I guessed right. OK, keeping with the British theme. When Def Leppard guitarist Steve Clark died in 1991, they replaced him with Vivian Campbell. What band did he come from? |
Honestly, God it was Ray taht was shot not Dave.
Vivian didn't he come from Coverdale's band Whitesnake...... only reason I know that is because Tawny Kitaen was Coverdale's woman at the time. |
Vivian Campbell was also in DIO and the Riverdogs
|
Well, I knew it was one of the Davies that was shot.

That's cool , ask away!
|
Ok an easy question.......... so don't all type at once.......
Someone in a famous group discovered Van Halen and helped produce thier first LP, who was it and what band was he with at the time? |
Gene Simmons of Kiss?
|
Wow, someone else asking a KISS related question!!!
Too cool man:D btw riderough. that is correct. Eddie and Alex re-paid them later by visiting KISS in the studio and was said to have recorded a version of "Christine Sixteen" with the band. KISS was going to put that version on their box set, but for unknown reasons, Warner Brothers wouldn't give permission to use it. |
When the Levee Breaks by Led Zeppelin was originally recorded in 1928 by which artist?
http://home.ripway.com/2004-2/66160/jimmypagegibson.jpg |
Can't answer this one...... even tho I think I know the answer it would be against my Kink Kultist rules. Zeppelin does not exist, Page keeps harping how HE was the man who did the guitar work on You Really Got Me. IT WAS DAVE DAVIES and he razor bladed his Elpico amp to get the sound. EVERYONE admits that Jimmy, even those that would love to have hurt the Kinks. You sat in a few sessions with them like you did with the Stones and the Who and the Beatles but you actually did very little for the Kinks. He lies and wants credit for everything....... lol surprised he never said the solo in Satisfaction was his idea. Oh yeah, and Page was not even the best guitarist in the Yardbirds in fact when he was the lead the band folded. Clapton and Beck ran circles around him. Sloppiest player to ever live.
Sorry won't breach that subject again...... unless asked or brought up. |
ouch!
I love Pagey's playin' but to each his own... I never really got the appeal of the kinks but if you dig 'em cool. |
and I am much sloppier than Page!!
|
We all have our likes and dislikes. The Kinks are an aquired taste, I'm a lyric driven listener and Ray is a genius at his lyrics on society.
Page isn't that bad, I just resent the fact that the man would try to take Dave's thunder from him. I mean face it Page will always be well known, not many know who Dave is (although he is a great lyricist and guitarist when not self destructing)....... but his riff on You really Got Me will always be known. |
true...lets agree to disagree....and get back to trivia!

This is a trivia thread. Lets stick to that. This is the current question. Quote:

Thanks GOT, it's nice to know that my partner in crime can be here when I can't!

"I am the lord of the wasteland
A modern day man of steel" - God of Thunder I'm also a pretty good patroller of this thread :D  |
Kansas Joe and Memphis Minnie recorded "When the Levee Breaks"

You're the man tritium!
next question. |
Dire Straits was an opening act for what major band?
|
I'm gonna take a long shot here and say Pink Floyd.... think I once read Mark Knopfler and Dave Gilmour were close friends.
|
I know they once toured with the Talking Heads, but don't know if that's what you're looking for.
|
perripken, that's the group. You're up.
|
Ok, I'm sticking with Dire Straits for this question:
In the early 90's after the group broke up, what famous guitar player asked Mark Knofler to collaborate with him on an album that they called "Neck and Neck"? |
Ahh! One of my all time favorites...Chet Atkins.
Name two bands that contained members of The Grateful Dead. An easy one for ya's. |
Yes.... a.k.a Mr. Guitar!
|
Knopfler and Atkins together? How does the album sound?
|
I'm not sure, I never listened to it. Was just aware of it. It kinda fell into my changing over to CD's from vinyl. Just a reminder... there is a question on the board and it's almost 24 hours. I know the answers, but I'd like to see someone else answer it.
|
Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions
and The Warlocks right? |
On the chance that I'm correct. Here's my question.
Identify this singer from his brief bio: "Born June 1st of 1953, in Coleman, Texas, he briefly studied theology at Abilene Christian College in Texas before moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma. There, he fronted the house band at a popular nightspot called Duke's Country and, later, broke into the national spotlight by winning a talent contest sponsored by Marlboro." |
I will agree with Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions, but I don't know about the Warlocks.... Do we have any Dead afficianato's to confirm that?
|
Wow. It took a long time to find this on the net. http://www.accessplace.com/gdtc/1174.htm
That's Jerry, Bob, Pigpen, and Bill (everyone minus Phil Lesh). Here's the "GD" lineup. http://www.accessplace.com/gdtc/1173.htm |
Cool..... great piece of trivia tritium! As far as your question goes... I had no idea, therefore I cheated!
|
Quote:
I don't think it was Johhny Cash, I'll guess Merle Haggard |
Ain't Merle dude.... Isn't he the Okie from Muscogee?
|
Nope, not Merle. Merle is the Okie from Muscogee, yes.
I'll give a hint in the morning. |
Is it Ronnie Dunn from Brooks and Dunn??
|
You got it, rideough.
|
Quote:
|
Ok tritium you take this one ...I can't think of a question!
|
OK we need a question here!!
Rideough answered correctly, but then passed of to tritium, but neither have asked. I declare it open. First person with a question gets to ask. Normal rules apply after that. |
I think I'll have a go...
A band's drummer is the new drummer for the band whose OLD drummer was Jeremiah Green. Name the band, the drummer, and his new band. |
