We still have an unanswered question-We need to keep this at one question at a time or things will get out of hand. As the thread starter, I'm going to impose a 12 hour rule from when someone posts an answer to when another question is asked. This is to keep the thread moving somewhat. It also gives you guys time to work, sleep, etc. The rules are this: An unanswered question has 24 hours before it is deemed a stumper. At that point, the asker will ask another question (hopefully a little easier) An answered question has 12 hours to be confirmed. If you are certain you have the question correct, go ahead and ask a new question to move this thing along. On the same lines, after a question has been confirmed correct, the person who answers it has 12 hours from that point to ask a new one. If that doesn't happen, the answer is nullified and the person who asked the last question, asks a new one. I try to check in on this thread at least a couple times a day. I am designating God of Thunder (if he chooses to accept) as an alternate thread regulator. It seems that he is in here just as much as I am. |
2 things
1. I accept as co-regulator 2. CCR is wrong. First hint. It's probably not who you would think. PS the Floyd question is still active. |
I'm pretty sure I know the answer G.O.T.- and it has to do with your avatar, correct? And yes Derwood, your Floyd question is still valid, but I still want to know if you're sure about this question. I'm not, and if true, we have until 7:57 pm tonight to answer.
|
Quote:
That was going to be my next hint :p |
The answer:
Nick Mason David Gilmour: Not on "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" Roger Waters: Not on "Momentary Lapse of Reason" or "Division Bell" Richard Wright: Not on "The Final Cut" |
Since we didn't have an aswer to the Floyd question, (good stumper by the way) and since we don't want two questions floating out there again, perripken gets to ask the next question since he got mine right.
Quote:
For those of you who can't tell, that is Gene Simmons breathing fire in my avatar. KISS has the most gold records of any American group. Stump away perripken. |

Quote:
I meant that no one else had answered it, therefore it was a stumper. I guess I didn't make that clear. Sorry, my bad. |
No, that's ok G.O.T., Derwood can ask the next question, his question was only a couple hours away from being 24 hours and I really don't think anyone was going to get it. By the way Derwood, I did some research and you're absolutely correct! I thought I read somewhere that Nick Mason and Richard Wright weren't on Animals because they were doing solo projects at the time, but I found out that Mr. Mason was indeed the only Floydian to be on every album. Too cool! Good question!
|
Next question: How did the band Yes come up with the title for their 1983 album "90125"? [/B][/QUOTE]
Actually, They were going to call it "The New Yes Album" then 90104, which was the catalog number they picked. They couldn't use it after their management said another band had taken it, so the catalog number 90125 was given to them. The title was chosen to keep things simple. Had to share. I'm a die-hard Yes fan. :-D |
Just a friendly reminder folks. You need to answer a question correctly before asking a new one.
Jdoe |
He was adding more info to a question already answered, not asking a new one.
BTW folks, we need a new question. Derwood is up. |
Quote:
That is one of my favorite Yes albums. Trevor Rabin is awesome! And yes, Derwood is still up! |
Doh, sorry about that. "I are the stupid."
Jdoe |
S'ok.
Since Derwood has not asked a question I'll alow you to ask one as an introduction to the thread. Knock yourself out, test our wisdom. |
I'm here, i just got back from work (which I have to wake up at 5:15 am for....)
Ok, let's see.... Can you name the 3 groups that the members of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young were in prior to forming their supergroup. Hint: 2 were in the same band together. |
Steven Stills and Neil Young were a part of Buffalo Springfield
David Crosby came from The Byrds Graham Nash was a member of the Hollies. Ok, now a Michigan based question. What band was Ted Nugent a part of before going solo and before forming Damn Yankees. PS. It pisses me off that I'm not old enough to have seen some of these bands playing in their prime around this state. I have older cousins who did see them and they remind me of it. |
Journey to the center of your mind-
Amboy Dukes- I was eight years old! |
Here's one for all you AC/DC fans.
The late Bon Scott was in a band before AC/DC. What was the name of the band. |
Fraternity.
Before that The Valentines, and before that The Spectors. Q:Complete the line up 'Charlie Hagrett, Greg T Walker and Jackson Spires? |
RICKEY MEDLOCKE!
BLACKFOOT! Man... I loved that band! Awesome! |
The greatest southern boogie band EVER!
|
Here's one to go along with the Blackfoot question:
For the album Siogo, the band decided to add a keyboard player, who was he and from what great band did he come from? |
Ken Hensley.....Uriah Heep.
O.K. Blackfoots first album was called? |
No Reservations
|
Ok, Last Blackfoot question from me, I'm figuring Siogo should get this no problem.
Rickey Medlocke left Blackfoot for a short period of time to play drums and record an album for what band? What album? I know that's two questions, but like I said, Siogo should get this. |
Quote:
Train, train.... Take me on out of this town. Love that song. PS - Funny thing that my Ted Nugent question led to a Blackfoot question. The first time I saw Ted, Blackfoot opened up for him. |
Yes G.O.T. , it's all good here in Music Trivia land!
|
I think that'll be Lynyrd Skynyrds 'First & Last', Vocals too if I remember correctly.
Q: 'Free for all' An early Ted Nugent album featured which little known singer on one track. He later went on to do quite well for himself? |
I know the answer, however, I'm going to let someone else have it. If it's not answered by 11:30 tomorrow, I'll chime in.
|
I gotta sign off for the day too!
|
Quote:
He was filling in for a disgruntled Derick St. Holmes. Man, what a voice he has. By far Nugent's biggest mistake. He has since made up with St. Holmes, but has never recorded again with him. And now a question... Thinking.......... Wow, we've already covered a lot. Hmm.... Ok, got one. What is the proper name for the Bob Dylan song that tells us "Eveyone must get stoned?" |
Rainy day women.
I won't post a question I gotta go out T.F.I. Friday. |
Quote:
Anyone else wanna give it shot?? "It says moops" - George Costanza |
"Rainy day women #12 & 35"
Guess I've waited long enough to ask a question. I'm going to stick with easier mainstream stuff. Trying to draw out some new people to the thread. Who was Lenny Kravitz' song "Are you gonna go my way?" written about? Jdoe |
Quote:
Siogo was close, but no cigar. :D |
Quote:
|
Where did "Steely Dan" get their name from?
*awaits an avalanche of answers* |
Derwood would be correct, all yours!
Jdoe |
Alrighty.
Name the Pink Floyd song that is not sung by anyone in Pink Floyd. This isn't a trick question.....it's not an instrumental, and it does have lyrics (so it's not "Great Gig in the Sky") So what's the song, and who is on lead vocals? |
Quote:
|
wait, how many questions are going on here? I thought I got to ask since i got the answer right to the last one?
|
One question at a time people
Derwood, you're up! |
The Pink Floyd question by Derwood is the current trivia question
|
That's what I thought. So who has the answer?
|
Quote:
Guess I have to brush up on my Pink Floyd. |
When should I reveal the answer?
|
I would think give it until at least tomorrow. Trivia question threads could likely use some time. There will be times where many questions may rip through in a few hours. Just my opinion, but I'd say wait until tomorrow.
That would make it a couple days, and with it falling on the weekend the Monday word readers can get a shot at it. Jdoe |

Quote:
Officially a stumper, huh? The answer is "Have a Cigar" from the "Wish You Were Here" album. Fellow british rocker Roy Harper was brought in on lead vocal after the group didn't like the sound of Gilmour, Waters or Wright singing it. So does this mean I ask again? If so, here is an easier one: "Let it Be" is well known as a song that Paul McCartney wrote about his late mother. What Beatles song did John Lennon write about his? |
yes, you ask-
I think I know the answer, but I'll let some new blood have a shot |
If no new blood wants to take it on, I know the answer too.
I'll provide the first hint: Think of his first son's name. |
Wait a second G.O.T. , if it's the song I think you're hinting on, that was written by McCartney to Julian when John and his first wife were breaking up. If it's not that song, my bad.
|
You're thinking of "Hey Jude" and you're right, but I'm talking about "Julia" which was written for his mom.
Next question: I'll phrase the question so as to not be a stumper...I hope. In 1979 KISS released the infamous disco song "I Was Made For Loving You". It has later been made public that Gene Simmons did not play bass on it. Jean Beauvoir played bass on that and a few other tracks... Which band did he come from?? |
Sorry thunder, you were right. I know the answer to your question, too, since the now deceased lead singer was from my hometown. However, I will let someone else answer it. If nobody does, I will answer it just before the 24 hour period. We can't have you stumping us again, can we?
|
Quote:
Good job at getting it so quick though. I thought it would be tougher. |
he played for more than one, so do you mean what band was he in in 1979?
|
Quote:
|
Anyone, anyone...
Bueller???? |
Well it looks like Perripken and Derwood both know the answer, but I need to see it posted before I declare a winner, unless someone else beats them to it.
My last hint: This is Jean Beauvoir http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/pic...10967x8vbx.jpg |
Ok, let's move this thing along, looks like no new blood is jumping in. The Plasmatics was the band G.O.T. was looking for. Wendy O. Williams, the lead singer just happened to be from my hometown.
I'm going to throw out a toughie since I have not had a stumper and I'm the originator of this thread. Let's see how good you guys are, and no cheating! It would be easy to ask what band Peter Frampton came from before he went solo, but, what band was he in when before that band and what famous member of a REAL famous band produced and managed that band? |
Wow a toughie indeed.
Humble Pie was the band he was in before going solo, but I don't know the band before that. I'm guessing that it wasn't Sgt. Pepper's Lonley Hearts Club Band  |
the wording of that question is confusing. Besides which, I know nearly nothing about Frampton
|
Let me see if I can reword it now that thunder has answered Humble Pie as the band that Frampton was in before he went solo.
Frampton was in a band before Humble Pie that was managed and produced by a member of a FAMOUS band. Name the band that Frampton was in, and name the manager/producer. I will give you a hint when I get back from work tonight. |
Ok, here's a hint for the manager.
He is the bass player in probably arguably the greatest Rock n Roll band ever ( I'm basing that on their longevity). |
My guess on the bass player was going to be Paul McCartney, but I'm thinking you mean Bill Wyman.
I still don't know who the band is. |
Ok, I guess I officially have a stumper. Sorry it took so long to post the answer, but my furnace is acting up and it's getting cold here in Western NY. Thunder, you are correct on Bill Wyman. He produced and managed a band called The Preachers and Peter Frampton was the vocalist/guitarist. They cut an album, but it didn't make it out of the UK.
Ok- easier one: Bad Company's original guitar player Mick Ralph's came from what band? |
That would be Mott the Hoople.
All the young duuuuuudes!! Quote:
So, back to the trivia. Who has the greatest selling debut album of all time? Not so fast, it's not who you think it is. tee hee EDIT:After double-checking some facts, it probably is who you think it is. The facts I had were a little misleading. I'll explain after the answer has been given. |
Quote:
I'm not sure on this one but is it Guns N Roses, "Appetite for Destruction"? |
Nope, good guess.
Think earlier. |
Boston "Boston"?
|
Quote:
Now to clarify all of the confusion. To date, Boston's first album has sold over 16 million units, but orginally sold about 2 million of those the opening month. THAT RECORD was shattered by Whitney Houston, who sold a little over 3 million. Miss Diva's first release has, to date, only sold about 12 million. That makes it the greatest selling debut album by a FEMALE artist. I misread the intial report and thought I had a stumper, figuring someone would say Boston and be wrong. Turns out I was and stupmed myself. "D'oh!!!" So to clarify, Boston has the greatest selling debut album of all time with 16 million. Perripken, save this thread and ask a good question. I messed up. /hangs head in shame. |
I would like to pass and let some new blood ask a question. This means someone who hasn't posted to this thread before. First come, first served. One question only please! I must go to work.
|
Quote:
|
Hey G.O.T. it looks like you, Derwood, and myself are the only lame-o-s in here!
Here's a question, former frontman for Rainbow, Joe Lynn Turner's original band was named.... |
Hey there perripken, I'm still around! Don't forget I'm lame too! I've just been sitting back, hoping to see more new posters in this thread. Guess we need to enforce a draft.
Jdoe |
....yeah......if we only had prizes.........yeah.......prizes....
|
C'mon guys, two stumpers in two days? I didn't think this one would be so difficult.
|
Question is hard because it is one of several that have been asked based on 70's music. I was born in 1975, so there is a lot of music from that decade I'm not familiar enough with to answer trivia questions about it.
|
"Here's a question, former frontman for Rainbow, Joe Lynn Turner's original band was named...."
Fandango new question (rather an easy one, I suspect): what well known classic rock song features the lyric "She make a dead man come"? |
correct, sion- sorry Derwood, can't make everyone happy
|
Quote:
Now for a newer question: Rush had one unreleased song that was scrapped and reused in another song, 'Different Strings'. Do you know the name of the unreleased track? |
Sorry guys, was out camping for the weekend. (Hail in October??????)
I suspect there are lurkers to this thread that don't feel they can compete with our stumpers. We don't care if the question is hard or not, just ask. Don't know the Rush one, wish I did. |
I hate Rush with every sinew and bone in my body. So I won't even bother looking it up.
|
Quote:
|
I don't know much Rush trivia. It's looking like a possible stumper.
The board has until 5:12 pm today to answer. |
Ermm, I think theres a family connection between the two, memory is hazy...
|
Looks like I stumped everyone so, here's the answer:
"Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" |
We need a new question now Melllvar.
|
ok ok. Here we go and I'll do an easier one:
On the song "Heavy Metal Poisoning' by Styx, are two backwards messages. They're located at the begining and in the middle. 1a. What is the first part referencing? 1b. (bonus) what is the second backward message? and what are they refering to? good luck. |
Disregard the msg I sent you.
I think what you mean by 'referencing' is how it has plays the Latin motto that is located around the pyramid on a dollar bill. The motto is something like...'Annuit cceptis. Novus ordo seclorum'. Unfortunately I don't know the bonus question. I'm sorry! Okay, as for my question...It's an easy one and I hope it wasn't used allready! What's the last name of the only member of ZZ Top who doesn't have a beard? |
Quote:
|
YAY! I was right!
|
Frank Beard.
No hints on this one, for reasons I can't say! Who was Jimi Hendrix's favorite guitarist? Jdoe Post Script: I will be out of town tomorrow, so someone may have to auto-confirm. |
I think you're referring to Phil Keaggy.
The urban legend is that he was asked on the Tonight Show what is was like to be the greatest rock guitarist in the world and his answer was. "I don't know. Why don't you ask Phil Keaggy?" But Snopes lists it as a false statement. |
Not Phil Keaggy, although what an incredible player. A one-man symphony with six strings. I should back off and suggest I have no proof of this. Only the word of Vernon Reid, though he was allowed to say it on national television without being corrected.
Jdoe |
If not Keaggy then, I'm going to guess Clapton.
|
JDoe, your question was asked over 24 hours ago, which makes it a stumper. Congratulations, and under the rules, try to make the next question a little easier. Thanks! (Oh, and by the way, the answer please!) It's not BB King is it?
|
Sorry about the delay, just got back to the computer. Good ole hectic week. The question was inspired by the prior question concerning ZZ Top.
Believe it or not, according to Vernon Reid, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top was Hendrix's favorite guitar player. Crazy stuff, I've never been able to find another source on it and would LOVE to get some furthur proof. But national TV tends to bring out disproof, which has never happened. Ok, an easy EASY one: Who wrote the song "Justify my Love" performed and recorded by Madonna? Jdoe |
