perripken 02-10-2004 01:10 PM

Ok... it's almost been 48 hours, so I'm going to keep this thing moving. I would like to know the answer to KWSN's question, though.
Question: What fairly succesful band was Peter Frampton co-founder of before he went solo in 1971?

Humble Pie

I dont have a question - someone else go

perripken 02-10-2004 01:42 PM

right- someone take it please!

God of Thunder 02-10-2004 01:52 PM

OK, what leader of an 80's band now is known for scoring kids shows such Rugrats and Pee-Wee's Playhouse and what band was he in?

KWSN 02-10-2004 04:45 PM

Answer to mine:

Jeremiah Green left Modest Mouse, whose new drummer is the drummer from the Helio Sequence, Benjamin Weikel.

KWSN 02-10-2004 04:46 PM

Oh and the band is Devo, the guy is Mark Mothersbaugh, god of thunder.

KWSN 02-10-2004 06:56 PM

BTW someone else can make a new question. I'm not going to be posting for a while.

God of Thunder 02-11-2004 04:26 AM

KWSN is correct, but I'll let someone else have a go.

God of Thunder 02-11-2004 08:30 AM

Allright, come on now people!!!

Let's not let what is happening in other parts of this board bring this thread down.

Since no one will step up and ask a question, I will give it another shot. And because of that, I will make it another KISS question.

A collective nooooooooooooooooooooo!! is heard all throughout the land  and a devilishly evil laugh is heard from The God of Thunder "mua ha ha ha ha ha!!

Actually, it's all I could come up with.

OK, the question. It has potential to be a stumper, but, serves you right.

Current KISS guitarist Tommy Thayer was once lead singer of what Gene Simmons produced LA band?

perripken 02-11-2004 09:01 AM

Sorry GOT, I had to peek! Never heard of the band he came from.
I echo your feelings about this thread.... seems there's been a lack of interest lately. I have a hunch that it has something to do with the titty board being back in full swing. I feel though, that you and I have kept one of the most succesful threads going.
18 pages and counting! Thanks for your help!

God of Thunder 02-11-2004 09:08 AM

Not a problem, dude. I'm somewhat amazed myself we've been able to keep it going so long.

and btw, I stumped ya again

They're not a well known band, except to KISS fans. They opend up for them during the mid-eighties. Tommy however has been associated with the band ever since. He actually served as art-director for the box set and on the production team during the un-plugged show.

tritium 02-11-2004 09:09 AM

Been travelling a lot lately. I'll be back in the swing of things as soon as my schedule settles down. Was even having trouble with getting the Free Tracks done -- took on some help with those to make sure they get taken care of.

No idea on that question, G.O.T.

kulrblind 02-11-2004 10:00 AM

God of Thunder
Is it "Black N Blue"?

perripken 02-11-2004 10:26 AM

we have a winner.... I only know 'cause I googled and I'm honest!
your question kulrblind!
BTW tritium.... I have downloaded some of your free tracks, but honestly haven't been able to listen. My speakers are not working. Thanks for your effort!

As Perripken already said, yes it is.

I saw them open for KISS in 1988 and they blew me away, too bad they never made a name for themselves.

perripken 02-12-2004 06:02 AM

Well, once again we have a situation where someone has answered a question and the clock is ticking. In four hours the answer will have been on the floor for 24 hours. At that time the floor will be open to a new question.
PEOPLE..... please! If you are going to make an attempt to answer a question, please check back and see if your answer was correct so that you can ask a new one. This is the exact reason that I imposed the 24 hour rule. I know people are busy, however, we have to keep this thing moving along!
:(

Sion 02-12-2004 10:45 AM

I got one. Name the Charles Bronson movie for which Jimmy Page did the musical score.

perripken 02-12-2004 05:49 PM

I believe that would be Death Wish 2, and he also played guitar for it, correct?

Sion 02-12-2004 10:02 PM

actually, perripken, Jimmy scored both Death Wish 2 AND 3. I would have accepted either.

yer question.

perripken 02-13-2004 06:03 AM

Ok, Linda Ronstadt was a member of what group before she pursued a solo career (which by the way, started out country)?

God of Thunder 02-13-2004 07:22 AM

The Stone Ponies

OK, next question (provided by a friend at work here, just to give proper credit)

What two southern bluesmen was Pink Floyd named after?

high_way 02-13-2004 07:49 AM

ahh shit i know this one, but without looking it up i cant remember who they were :(

I couldn't have told you without looking it up either.

But, he knew it off the top of his head.

I know there is a lot of Floyd fans in here who will know it though. (Derwood, I'm looking your way)

pan6467 02-14-2004 08:58 AM

Floyd Anderson and Pink Council?

In case I am right ................. what city was the first to play Maggie May by Rod Stewart AND Paradise By the Dashboard Light on its radio stations?

Rod Stewart AND MeaLoaf both credit this as being thier big breaks because thier careers took off after that exposure.

Sion 02-14-2004 10:23 AM

taking a wild, shot-in-the-dark guess at pan6467's question: Cleveland?

pan6467 02-14-2004 04:28 PM

D'oh..... thought it would be much harder than that......

yes,

in fact Maggie May was played as a joke. The DJ laughed and asked if this voice would ever make it. Within hours it became the most requested song in Cleveland.

For MeatLoaf we owe it to WMMS the great Cleveland station. They were the first to play Paradise, and again it became the most requested song.

Cleveland knows its ROCK AND ROLL.

perripken 02-15-2004 05:28 AM

We need a question on the board please Sion.

Sion 02-15-2004 09:35 AM

I got nothin, so I open it up to anyone.

Sorry about not checking back in, but yes, you are right.

Since it has been declared open again, another KISS question...

I wouldn't do that to everyone here, you'd hunt me down and kill me.

Let's go Beatles this time...kinda.

John Lennon appeared on Elton John's version of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" under what alter-ego?

God of Thunder 02-16-2004 05:07 AM

No takers yet????

Allright, the pseudonym had something to do with his middle name. His original middle name, not the one he changed it to later.

There, that ought to throw some confusion into it :D

God of Thunder 02-16-2004 12:16 PM

I am sooooooooo dissapointed that no one has ever heard of "Dr. Winston O' Boogie".

Let's make this easy on everyone!!

Who was the uncredited guitarist doing the solo on Michael Jackson's "Beat It"?

ladyadmin 02-16-2004 02:28 PM

Eddie Van Halen?

perripken 02-16-2004 02:57 PM

We have a winner, and welcome ladyadmin to the music trivia thread. As always, it's great to see new blood in here!
Side note** God of Thunder probably knows this, but Steve Lukather played bass and rythym guitars and the late Jeff Porcaro played drums. Both were from the band Toto.
Your question, ladyadmin!

God of Thunder 02-16-2004 06:04 PM

Yes I did. Steve actually played on a lot of albums in the 80's. I think he is pretty much just a studio musician now. Plays on a lot of country albums.

We await your question ladyadmin.

pan6467 02-17-2004 12:16 AM

Didn't Eddie play on Thriller for free?

ladyadmin 02-17-2004 04:38 AM

Thanks for the warm welcome; it's good to be here. :) Here is my question :

Who had a 90's album called "Black Tie, White Noise"?

God of Thunder 02-17-2004 05:07 AM

Actually he did. He did it as a favor to Quincy Jones.

I read a recent interview with Eddie who said that he did the solo in two takes. The first one was the way Quincy wanted it, the second was the way Eddie wanted it.

They used Eddie's.

david bowie in '93?

perripken 02-17-2004 01:08 PM

Correct, Flyman... your question....

Fly 02-17-2004 04:28 PM

in '78 all four members of Kiss released solo albums....

on Ace FRehley's......name the two drummers that appear.

*god of thunder might be all over this one.*

perripken 02-17-2004 06:04 PM

I know one of them, but not the other, so I can't answer
C'mon thunder, I know you can do it!

ladyadmin 02-17-2004 07:22 PM

Sorry for not getting back sooner. Flyman was indeed correct :)

perripken 02-17-2004 07:36 PM

Man..... flyman, I can't believe it! I couldn't take it anymore, so I googled! I now know the other drummer and... well..... I can't believe it! Great question by the way!

Sion 02-17-2004 10:39 PM

like perripken, I too knew one right off the top of my head: Anton Fig (currently the skinsman on the David Letterman show). hell, anyone who reads this thread regularly should know that, it was mentioned just a couple pages back.

now, I wonder, is it considered cheating if I dug out my original copy (first run print) of this album and looked for the other? after all, its not like I had to google the answer.

I'll hold off with the other name until a decision is made. meanwhile, if anyone does know without looking, then feel free to answer, and ask a new question.

Fly 02-18-2004 05:05 AM

not sure of the rules myself but,........i figure you can use all means possible to find the answers.

God of Thunder 02-18-2004 05:08 AM

Damn, Damn, Damn!!!!!!!!

I don't check the thread for a day because I'm actually busy at work, and look what happens.

I don't consider what you did cheating Sion. The fact that you have the album to look up gets you extra points.

Post the answer and then amaze us with you follow up question.

But keep in mind everyone, I'll be watching close from now on. :hmm:

Damn KISS question when I'm not looking....grumble grumble grumble

perripken 02-18-2004 06:37 AM

I agree, finding the album is not cheating, using a search engine is. Nice job Sion!

Fly 02-18-2004 06:57 AM

yeah sion..............gimme the name and drop another Q.

Rats..sorry, kids. Completely slipped my mind. Won't let it happen again. Now... gotta check the live question.

perripken 02-18-2004 08:55 AM

It's ok kurlblind, just like to keep this thing moving

Sion 02-18-2004 09:01 AM

ok, since I have three opinions allowing, the other drummer is Carl Tallarico, who played on the song Fractured Mirror.

next question: by what name is Saul Hudson better known?

God of Thunder 02-18-2004 09:14 AM

That would be Slash...(He says confidently without Googling)

still grumbling about a missed KISS oppurtunity. Trust me, no one was more suprised than me that I actually had work to do :D

Since the RnR Hall of fame induction is nearly upon us.

Name the only artist inducted 3 times and name each occurance.

Should be easier than you think.

grumble...grumble

perripken 02-18-2004 01:29 PM

When you say name each occurance, do you want the years?
I can name the artist and the 3 times, but not the exact years, without googling.

perripken 02-18-2004 02:17 PM

I'm going to go ahead and answer, because I don't think GOT could possibly expect us to know the induction dates.
Eric Clapton:
Solo
Cream
Yardbirds
I'll wait for confirmation from the thunderous one

God of Thunder 02-18-2004 03:15 PM

No I was not expecting the induction dates. Sorry about the confusion.

You got what I meant, I didn't want to say name each band, because as you pointed out, one was solo.

Each time I ask that question amongst friends, they usually say Paul McCartney. Sir Paul has only been inducted twice though. As a Beatle and as a solo artist. Wings are still waiting.

Thought I would trip someone up on that, but perripken has proven himself worthy.

Ask away dude.

perripken 02-18-2004 03:20 PM

OK,
Pat Benetar's hubby and lead guitarist Neil Geraldo played keyboards for what guitarist before Pat scooped him up?

notaneel 02-18-2004 04:35 PM

is it Rick Derringer?

perripken 02-18-2004 04:37 PM

your question notaneel

notaneel 02-18-2004 08:12 PM

awesome...

my question... Who wrote the Bangles hit "Manic Monday" ?

Sion 02-18-2004 09:21 PM

Im fairly certain that was Prince.

if correct, my question is: behind every great singer there is usually a great guitar player. I'll name three guitar players, you name the singers they play/played for.

Denny Lane
Steve Stevens
Randy Rhoads

(this shouldnt take too long)

notaneel 02-18-2004 09:58 PM

correct

perripken 02-19-2004 06:09 AM

Lane- Wings
Stevens- Billy Idol
Rhoads- Ozzy Osbourne

perripken 02-19-2004 06:37 AM

Ok, I'm 99.9% sure I'm correct, so here goes:
I'll stick with the I'll name the guitarist, you name the band idea, but I think I'll keep it to one so we don't get partial answers.

Glenn Tipton- should be pretty easy

Sion 02-19-2004 09:29 AM

perripken, your answers were indeed correct.

and the answer to your question is Judas Priest, yes?

perripken 02-19-2004 09:50 AM

That is correct Sion

perripken 02-19-2004 04:13 PM

We need Sion in da house!

Sion 02-19-2004 09:54 PM

here's an easy one:

Blinded by the Light was a huge hit for Manfred Mann's Earth Band in the late seventies. What mega-star wrote the song originally?

pan6467 02-19-2004 10:34 PM

Would that be Bob Seeger?

pan6467 02-19-2004 10:44 PM

I yahooed to find the answer............. was very surprised to see who it was..... needless to say I am WRONG WRONG WRONG....

God of Thunder 02-20-2004 04:39 AM

You were suprised to find out it was actually Bruce Springsteen eh?

Here's a possible stumper from the 80's.

This band fromed in the early 80's and released their only album in 1983. They broke up and half of the band formed Frozen Ghost and the other half formed Alias.

The kicker is that by the time both of those bands had pretty much failed as well, their only hit single from the 1983 album reached number 1 on the charts in 1989.

I hope I made that clear enough, but here it is re-phrased.

Name the band (and song if you can) that recorded a song in 1983, but didn't hit the top of the charts until 1989.

pan6467 02-20-2004 07:34 AM

Yeah I was surprised to fgind it was Springsteen. For some reason I always tie Bob Seeger to that song.

Won't even try this it is my era but I haven't a clue.

God of Thunder 02-20-2004 08:10 AM

Quote:

Actually, you probably do. If you lived in the 80's I'm quite certain you've heard the song. It was played at every school dance and wedding reception there was. That's partially why it hit the charts so many years later. DJs refused to let the song die.

perripken 02-20-2004 08:52 AM

I'm out!

pan6467 02-20-2004 09:03 AM

Ok a guess Men Without Hats "the Safety Dance"

God of Thunder 02-20-2004 09:19 AM

Nope

I don't even think that hit the top 10.

ladyadmin 02-20-2004 10:15 AM

Sheriff "When I'm With You"

If this is correct my question for you is this ::

In 1992 there was a hit song whose video featured a cameo appearance by John Malkovich. Name the song and the artist of the song/video in which he appeared.

God of Thunder 02-20-2004 12:03 PM

Very good ladyadmin.

I figured I had a stumper.

That had to have sucked for the guys in the group to have finally had a number one song, six years after they had alredy broken up, re-formed new bands and broken them up as well.

The record company pressured them to regroup to promote the single, but by that time, why bother?

As for your question, no clue.

ladyadmin 02-21-2004 01:28 PM

still no biters?

God of Thunder 02-22-2004 08:43 AM

Well, I bite, but not too hard. But, that's another thread.

Looks like you have a stumper ladyadmin, ask another one.

Thing of it is, I think I can see the video in my head, but I can't place it.

Here goes:
Jackson Browne was a member of what band before going solo.

God of Thunder 02-25-2004 06:48 AM

Hey, one I know!!!

He was in the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band for a brief period before going solo.

OK, this one should be easy enough, if you know your 80's.

No Doubt's current single "It's My Life" is a cover song originally done by what 80's band?

pan6467 02-25-2004 07:36 AM

Talk Talk..... interesting band. Heard No Doubt do it and wondered why........lol so many other good songs in the 80's.
