I know I've heard this one before, but am drawing blanks other than my initial guess.
|
I've got it GOT, however, I'm not going to be around the computer until tomorrow to answer. Damn it! If the answer is still on the board when I get to work tomorrow, I'll be in!
By the way, great question- love this talent! |
NWA??
|
Not rap either.
Hint time: This video was not banned for sex or violence or even lyrics. The objectional part of the video was the amount of advertising it did. The video was pretty much a parody for the over-commercialization of the times. Even though the video was a parody, the song was not. So, it was not Weird Al. After it won the award, MTV finally caved and started playing it. |
This Note's for You, Neil Young?
|
You got it Sion.
|
I beg to differ, I think it was "Need you tonight" INXS.
|
I Googled the stuff earlier and "Need You Tonight" was the video of the year of '88 and "This Note's For You" was the one for '89 (and was the one that MTV didn't want to play).
"This Note's For You" lyrics for the curious Don't want no cash Don't need no money Ain't got no stash This note's for you. Ain't singin' for Pepsi Ain't singin' for Coke I don't sing for nobody Makes me look like a joke This note's for you. Ain't singin' for Miller Don't sing for Bud I won't sing for politicians Ain't singin' for Spuds This note's for you. Don't need no cash Don't want no money Ain't got no stash This note's for you. I've got the real thing I got the real thing, baby I got the real thing Yeah, alright. |

I've cried a river, I've built a bridge, and now I'm over it!
Your question Sion. |
cool, I thought I had a pretty good guess there.
next Q: name the band that appeared in part 3 of a certain sci-fi movie trilogy, as the musicians at a hoe-down/square dance in the old west (1880's). bonus points if you can name the song they wrote especially for that movie. |
I'm pretty sure I remember ZZTop doing a song for Back to the Future 3 but didn't remember them being in the movie, but I'll guess that anyways.
Can't remember the song they did for the movie. |
Just checked IMDB.com and saw I was right. I saw what the song was called too, but figured I'd let someone else guess it.
Couldn't really think of anything good, but here's a new question (might be too easy): What band made a cameo in the final Dirty Harry movie sequel? |
I wanna say Guns'n'Roses, but am not certain. didnt they have a song on the soundtrack?
|
Guns N Roses it is (The Dead Pool also co-starred a young Jim Carrey as a rockstar). They used Welcome to the Jungle on the soundtrack. Your go Sion
|
cool, Sion guesses correctly again.
next: name the drummer who recorded with Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath and Uriah Heep. |
Damn, there's a lot of people it could be. Not Vinny Appice, Bill Ward, or Cozy Powell, I presume.
|
so far as I know, there was only one who recorded with all three.
|
My guess would have been Vinny Appice too.
|
keep guessing

OK, I didn't use Google, but I did use AMG...... i hope that doesn't count as cheating. This would have been a stumper had I not.
The answer is Lee Kerslake |

Quote:
EDIT: WAIT, iamtheone added the answer a minute before my post. Well, if he didnt look it up, it's his go. |
iamtheone is indeed correct and deserves the next question.
|
Looking up the answer anywhere is cheating.
I know we can all do it very easily and no one would know about it, but lets play like gentlemen (and ladies) and show some honor. It takes the fun out of this if we are going to resort to cheating. |
Sorry guys.
Next time if I resort to AMG and find the answer, I'll indicate that I've found it but not say it. Again, major apologies. |
Quote:
|
ok. I will go. (another easy one)
What band was originally called Majesty? (80's, 90's) |
Quote:
|
Man..... I wish I had been here for the Lee Kerslake question, I'm a huge Uriah Heep fan! BTW....as the threads originator, and as the one who empowered the almighty God of Thunder.... I also agree that looking up any info on albums or CD's is not cheating.
Googling or any other form of internet search (just because it's too damn easy) is cheating. As for Majesty, no clue |

we need a new question sparafucile
|
I'll go ahead and ask another one.
What guitarist did Steve Miller get his first guitar as a gift from and was taught his first chords at the age of 5 by? |
wild guess: Chet Atkins
|
cool question Booray, I had to look so I'm disqualified.
|
easy one: Les Paul....
|
Gibson has introduced how many different Les Paul models since they were first introduced in 1952?
|
The only ones I know of is the standard model and the Gold Top custom. But I also know that Ace Frehley also desgned one.
So, basically I'm just gonna take a wild-assed guess and say....12. |
Quote:
|
Feh.
Well, I tried. |
Can we get a higher or lower hint? I'll guess 15
|
Another guess, 6
|
Isn't that question more of a musical instrument trivia question? At any rate I'll guess 22
|
Quote:
If the majority feels that this does not relate I can pass my turn... I will anyway, the answer was 40. carry'on fellas |
I see nothing wrong with the question. It is music-related.
Looks like it was going to be a stumper anyway. Let me try one since it has been declared open. The Buggles are famous for having the first video played on MTV. What artist had the second video? |
shit, I think I've heard this one before...don't know, but gotta guess something
The Cars |
Guess.. (and probably a very bad one) Cindy Lauper? - (this damn video is all i remember seeing back in the day)
|
Billy Squire?
|
I agree with my cohort GOT, the question was about arguably the greatest guitar in history.... that's music my friends!
I'm gonna guess Billy Idol. |
I've heard this one before too, but unfortunately cant remember the answer, so Im guessing Michael Jackson.
|
Lets see.. I'll answer these in order
Nope Nope Nope Nope and No Soup for you It was a female artist. |
Madonna? Has to be it damn it....
 trying to think..... who the hell else did they play to death..... |
ok, I cheated. I wouldn't of guessed this person/band however.
|
Wasn't someone that was really played to death. I remember the video, but don't recall it being really over-played.
But, as iamtheone pointed out, it wasn't Madonna. Remember, this was 1981. (collective sound of all of the youngblood saying "How the hell should I know? I wasn't even born yet!!") |
I was 10....
|
I have two female guesses, I'll start with Cindi Lauper
|
Go with the other then, because iamtheone already guessed Cyndi and was shot down.
I'll give a pretty good hint later, right now it's fun to watch everyone guess. Side note: Only the artist is needed to provide a correct answer, but I really would like to know the name of the song too. Hint: It's not the one she's really famous for during that era. That song was the next one released. |
Pat Benatar?
and if thats right, Im guessing "Hell is for children" as the song |
Quote:
"Hit Me With Your Best Shot" was her next single/video released. Side note: I saw Pat in concert last summer and DAMN is she still cute  Time has been very kind to her. Your go Sion. |
Aw man... that was my next guess. Another guess could've been Blondie.
|
heh, cool. Sion's guesses have been very good of late, eh?
anyway, here's an easy one: everyone knows that Steven Van Zandt plays Silvio Dante on The Sopranos, and most know that he is a member of Springsteen's E Street Band. what is the name of his solo project? |
Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul
To carry on the guitar-related trivia, (yes it is a valid line of questioning) how did B.B King's guitar get it's name? |
Lucille got her name from a fight at a club I think? Guys were fighting over a woman called Lucille.
|
Yup.
The way B.B. tels it is that two guys were fighting over her, somehow a fire got started and everyone evacuated. He realized once he got outside he had left his guitar, so he ran back in to get it. He named the guitar after the woman they were fighting over to remind himself not to ever do anything that stupid again. |
In your honor:
Where did KISS break a BEATLES attendance record? |
Hm, not sure. Has to be a big venue... maybe something in England. Is it the alltime attendance record or the record for the venue?
I'd like to say Leeds but I'm not sure. |
im gonna guess Madison Square Garden
|
Where oh where is the God of Thunder? This one should be right up his alley!
|
Ahhh, took a night off.
Actually I think you're thinking of Shea Stadium and it was Grand Funk Railroad that did it. If not, then you stumped me. |
Don't know if GoT is right, but will just throw out another guess. Candlestick Park
|
Nope. =all the above
(hint-Not in the US) Or, if you would rather have me reveal that is fine. Your call fella's. |
The Budokan in Japan?
if not, how about at least giving us what continent its on? |
Quote:
|
why is it that I always guess correctly when I dont have a good question ready?
ok, how about this: what Academy award-winning funk/soul icon appeared in John Carpenter's "Escape from New York"? |
I'm trying to remember. I'm thinking someone performed at some point in the movie for the "bad element" crowd in New York, but not sure. I'll guess James Brown.
**going to check my guess on IMDB.com so I guess I won't have any follow up guesses** |
crap....just saw the answer. completely forgot he was in this.
|
George Clinton maybe?
|
keep guessing
|
Quote:
|
Hmmm, Ronnie Isley maybe?
|
hint: not GRAMMY winner, but ACADEMY AWARD winner. Id tell you the movie, but that would be a dead giveaway. I can tell you it was a 70's movie about a cop.
|
A 70's movie, conspicuous, about a cop? There could be only one...
JOHN SHAFT!!! Isaac Hayes MUST be the answer. |
Quote:
|
Aw fudge, I was gonna say Ernest Borgnine, as the Escape From NY was the clue I needed. Sheesh.
|
Quote:
well done grasshopper. you may go now. |
doh! I think if I had noticed the "Academy Award" winning part of the initial clue, I would've gotten that one.
|
OK, here goes
On "Chapelle's Show," you may have seen the parody Dave did or R. Kelly with the "Pee on You" video. This is because, apparently, R. Kelly pisses on a girl in his infamous sex tape. At the end of the parody video, they have a fake information graphic come up, like the ones in the bottom left corner of videos on MTV. The general format is like this for those who don't get it by my description Song Title Artist Album Record Label Director As the director, Dave lists, as a joke, another famous artist with an infamous video involving pissing. This is discussed in the commentary for said episode on the DVD. Name the artist listed as the director. |
Chuck Berry?
|
Well that one lasted only 11 minutes. Damn.
By the way, in the commentary on the DVD, the show's main writer (aside to Chapelle) describes the Chuck Berry's House Party video as the most hilarious thing he's ever seen. Your go then, Guttersnipe. |
Wow...I pulled that out of my ass... I heard that ol' Johnny B. Goode himself was into golden showers along time ago....weird.
Let's see here, a nice Zappa question for ya's...Out of his four children, which one appeared on his "Ship Arriving Too Late, To Save a Drowning Witch" album, singing about a certain group of Californians? Gimme the name of his kid and name of the song. |
Moon Unit with the great hit "Valley Girl"........ Like omigod

Hmmmmm .......... must dig deep into the bowels of Hell for this one.......
Ray Davies before starting the KINKS worked in London for the Dave Hunt Band. After awhile he and the lead singer left to form a band called "THE BLUES MESSENGERS" it featured an extremely famous drummer who would eventually be a part of/founding member of a HUGE band.... Who is that drummer? This should be a stumper. |
Neil Pert =bad guess.
|
Quote:
My bad guess=Mic Fleetwood |
DAMN YOU GOD.........lol
Yes it was the one and only Mick Fleetwood. Thought I had people on this. Thought for sure someone would say Phil Collins |
lol, guess you didn't dig deep enough in the ol' bowels :D
--jaded |
Nah, just did some analysing.
Tried to deduce what artists might have been kicking around the same time Davies was forming a band. I also knew that Mick was a founding member and therefore took a pretty good guess. Honestly Phil Collins didn't even enter my mind. It was either Mick or Ginger Baker, I chose Mick. Then again...sometime I over-think things. Let's switch gears to country music. Where did Sawyer Brown get their first big break? |
