/me picks up the torch. Ok, consider the two following quotes: #1: "It's better to burn out, than it is to rust." #2: "It's better to burn out, than fade away." name the song and artist for each lyric. |
#1: Neil Young - Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)
#2: " " Someone else can ask, I just like to answer/learn. |
Paradise Lost is correct on #1
we need an answer for #2 |
#2 Def Leppard - Rock of Ages
Would have never known #1 |
Quote:
Actually, that's what I thought. But it turns out to be much more self-serving that that. Both James Hetfield and Mick Jagger are alcoholics who no longer drink. I'd heard that about Clarence Gatemouth Brown. He played in New Orleans and forced the bar where he played to turn all the TVs off there, too. |
GoT or Paradise Lost, we need a new question from one of you two.
|
In fact, "My My, Hey Hey" has the first line, but "Hey Hey, My My" only has the second line, which is present in both songs. Unless I got them backward. However, since it's been a day and a half with no response, I feel like I'll go ahead and post the next question myself, if that's okay with everyone.
It was widely known that John Lennon was responsible for the naming of the Beatles. Because of its peculiar nature, people frequently asked Lennon where the name originated. He got tired of trying to answer the question honestly, so he made up a story. What was it? |
it was a mock of buddy holly and the crickets...........so he named them the beetles...which they changed too the Beatles.
close? |
someone correct me if Im wrong, but werent they calling themselves the Silver Beatles at first, later to drop the Silver?
|
been a couple of days since the last question was asked. so Im jumping in to keep things moving.
Q: What do "Rocky Racoon" from the Beatles and "Locomotive Breath" from Jethro Tull have in common? |
bump^^^^^^
|
I think you've come upon a Stumper my friend.
Pray tell, What does "Rocky Racoon" have to do with "Locomotive Breath"? (I actually really need to know now!) |
QuasiMojo, read the lyrics to each. It'll probably jump out at you.
If not, I'll post the answer later today. |
I was wondering if it was lyrics yesterday, but didn't want to cheat and look for them on the internet. Couldn't pin down any similarities. Now that you confirmed it, tried singing them in my head again and think the answer is that they both mention Gideon's Bible. If I'm right, someone go ahead and ask the next one.
|
Damn Booray, you must have an excellent memory for lyrics. Rocky Racoon is fairly easy to remember, but getting as far as the mention of Gideon's Bible in Locomotive Breath is impressive.
|
for some reason, I recalled the Gideon's Bible part in Locomotive Breath FIRST. "something something Gideon's Bible, open at page one". :)
trying to come up with a question, but having trouble. anyone who wants to ask one, go ahead (unless I come in and make another post with a question :) ) |
not forever.......just for now....
|
Quote:
still can't think of a question, so anyone who has one, go ahead |
Since it's christmas time, I'll ask a related question.
Thurl Ravenscroft, who is best know for being the voice of Tony the Tiger ("Theyyyyy're Grrrreat!!") sings what Christmas song made famous in a made-for-TV movie? |
Quote:
Mr. Ravenscroft sang "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" for the animated Dr. Seuss c'mas classic "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." And I'm gonna have to pass again. I just can't seem to think of a question. |
there is an 80s band called "GTR", what does "GTR" stand for?
|
Quote:
|
you're a good sport Bryndian_Dhai. do you know what guitar player, in the band, also played with Yes, Genesis, and Asia?
|
Yup. I love GTR, lol. *grins*
|
Quote:
Man, I wish I could sing bass like that guy. |
Quote:
|
So, what's the answer to the GTR question?
|
Quote:
Somebody else has to ask the next question. I'm a dry well.... too many c'mas carols reverberating through my congested, sinus infected head. *grins* Bryn |
i'll take it!!
on their first few singles, before topper headon came aboard, who was the clash's drummer? |
Quote:
|
Quote:
BTW, y'all can call me Bryn... my whole name sounds like such a mouthful, lol. *winks* |
Ok folks, I've been standing back for quite some time- both because I wanted to see some new blood take over (I must say I'm quite pleased) and... because my computer is a problem child- needs a serious overhaul. I loved GTR- my favorite song was "The Hunter" I have it on vinyl and would love to get the CD. I also loved Asia, and since you brought them up here is my question:
Geoffrey Downes played in Yes with Hackett and Howe, what band did he come from and what were they best known for. I am going to pm the answer to my cohort God of Thunder just in case my computer bugs out. And yes... there was a hint in there! |
You start to show your age with stuff like this ... so I am going to hold off answering for a moment.
|
Quote:
Oh, hee hee giggle snort, I see it now. Quote:

Bryn |
Quote:
Sorry for putting that stupid song in your mind, Bryn. I can't believe Geoffrey Downes even had anything to do with that group. |
I'm a big Asia fan, but I just don't know the answer to this one.
maybe if I listened to the radio more, but I just watch MTV, lately. EDIT: this was meant to be ironic. |
Quote:
Geoff Downes was a member of the Buggles, who had the first video on MTV. Now I know all of you read that Perripken PM'ed me the answer, but you also have to believe that I knew that before hand. For fairness sake, I'll toss the next question out. |
Well, since nobody's asking anything, I might as well join the fray with two questions at once.
Name three bands that include Mike Patton of Faith No More fame. What was the name of the Nine Inch Nails song on the Tomb Raider soundtrack, and who directed the video? |
Per the rules, lets keep it to one question at a time. It makes it easier for everyone.
First one to answer either question wins. The other question will be a bonus. As for myself, I have no idea. |
Thanks GOT, and just for Hawkeye's sake, the name of the song was "Video killed the radio star" , and I'm ready to kill this computer! My recent absense is much attributed to this thing. I have DSL and it's acting like dial up. Gotta get it to a technician after christmas, but it's like number 10 on my priority list. Need new tires on the truck- rear end is going also, etc. etc. etc.
As for the faith no more question- I have no idea. |
The answer to the Mike Patton question:
Fantomas Mr. Bungle Tomahawk I have no idea about the NIN question, but here is my new question: The Ace Frehley-led KISS song "2000 Man" is a cover song originally written and recorded by what legendary band? |
the answer to the NIN question is the horrible song and video for "deep" (and i love NIN so that shows how bad it really was).
dont know who the director was though |
Very nice Harry.
EDIT: Wasn't it The Rolling Stones? |
Quote:
|
Alright then, since I'm right, here's my question.
'Set The World Afire' (by Megadeth) begins with a fragment of a song by what band/artist? |
Nobody?
|
Looks like ya stumped us!
|
Hmm, maybe I should post an answer then. My friend went to the Megadeth concert a few weeks ago and got to meet Dave Mustaine. He asked him what that old song was at the begining of Set The World Afire. Dave told him that it's a song from a 1930's band called The Ink Spots. Seeing how the words came directly from Dave Mustaine, I doubted that this information could be found on the web and decided to see if anybody would know. Alright, whoever wants to be next, please go ahead.
|
I could be wrong, but I "think" The Ink Spots were from the 50's. But dont quote me on that.
meanwhile, I'll toss out a relatively easy one: name the band the performs the theme song on The Sopranos. |
Quote:
|
ok, apparently we have no Sopranos fans here, so I'll give the answer and ask another.
A3 (or Alabama 3) performs the Sopranos theme song. meanwhile, try to identify this song snippet: "The mighty arms of Atlas hold the heavens from the earth." |
Quote:
Ok, I'll stick with lyrics..... Identify song and artist: "Written on the runes the many tales of men of old ancient kings who ruled the land a thousand years ago" |
Looks like it was a stumper, Bryndian_Dhai
I am going to break the rules and ask a question of my own :p In Meatloaf's classic song "Paradise by the Dashboard Light", who is the female lead and what TV show did she later (briefly) star in? |
Bryn's was a song called "Valhalla" by Pantera
(yes, I googled it) |
Quote:
|
Hint time?
OK the TV show she starred in was on NBC. She was only in the first season. She has several albums of her own, though I doubt anyone has heard of them. She was also tied romantically to Mick Jones of The Clash for awhile. There, that ought to confuse you. I can hear Google cranking up their servers now. ;) |
ellen foley.........three girls three?
i know i got the name right ,but am lost on the show. |
Quote:
She was replaced by someone who was replaced by Markie Post as Christine Sullivan. |
thanx GOT.........you can have the next Q.......i'm drawing a blank today.
|
Ok, lets stick with TV for $200 Alex.
What band did the musician who wrote and sang the theme from "Welcome Back Kotter" come from? |
Quote:
mmmmmmmm...Markie Post  |
Quote:
|
Yes it was John Sebastian, but let's see who knows what band he came from.
|
John Sebastion was in the Lovin' Spoonfuls
|
We have a winner.
Sorry Harry, I did ask for the band. But, here's a cookie for trying!! http://www.creativetheatre.org/images/cookie.jpg |
Quote:
SpoonfulS? as in plural? |
OK, I didn't have the complete answer. But what is the new question?
|
Quote:
|
OK, kickstart again.
Name the british band that took their name from a character in a Jane Fonda sci-fi flick. Should be easy enough |
Duran Duran
what libidinous frontman once quipped: "Hey, Im a family man. I've personally started 3 or 4 families this year alone."? |
Mick Jagger?
|
a good guess, but not correct. sorry
|
one more guess: David Lee Roth?
|
Steven Tyler?
|
Quote:
Not that you needed any confirmation from me though. :D |
Quote:
DINGDINGDING! |
I win?!
That was almost my first guess, but then Jagger popped into my mind. I can't think of a question, so whoever wants to ask one, go ahead. |
Ok, I'll offer up the next question:
What rocker was born Vincent Furnier, son of a minister? |
Vince Neil?
|
Quote:
Alice Cooper, I think. |
Quote:
|
edited because I didn't see that someone else had already correctly answered.
Move along, nothing to see here. |
It's been ten days since someone got the last question right and no new question has been asked. I guess it's up in the air for anyone. I can't think of any questions, but wanted to bump the thread so anyone with a question could ask one.
|
Wall of Voodoo's cover of "Ring of Fire" was used in a movie in the early 80's. What's the title of the movie?
|
wild guess: St. Elmo's Fire
|
No.
However, if it is part of the St. Elmo's Fire soundtrack it's not the movie I was thinking about. Hint: It's not a mainstream movie. |
answer?
new question? |
The movie was "Nightdreams." Porn flick. Don't ask me how I know this. It's just one of those...weird, random facts?
|
rhaevyn is correct.
|
How about a question there, Rhaevyn?
|
Vanblah, you wanna take another one?
|
I'd like to defer to someone ... but I'll pick up the ball if no one asks tomorrow.
|
what is David Bowie's real name and why did he change it?
|
David Bowie is widely regarded as one of the most influential writers of pop music. Born 'David Jones' he changed his name to Bowie in the 60s, to avoid confusion with the then well-known Davy Jones (lead singer of the Monkees).
/edit i got it from imdb ... is that allowed? heh |
er, actually, no. see the first page of the thread.
answer was correct though. anyone who wants, jump in with one. |
I'll jump in with a quickie - what's Trent Reznor's actual first name?
|
its Michael... Michael Trent Reznor (born May 17, 1965 in Mercer, Pennsylvania), better known as Trent Reznor
What do I win??? New Question... Who were the founding members of Pink Floyd??? |
I think I've got this right, but not positive:
Syd Barrett Roger Waters Rick Wright Nick Mason |
booray is correct
