Correct

gboz 08-11-2004 05:50 AM

Looking forward to your question, Sion.

Sion 08-11-2004 07:44 AM

ah nuts. I just took an educated guess. and dont have a question ready. I'll try to come up with something. But in the meantime, if anyone has one ready, feel free to go ahead.

Derwood 08-11-2004 07:08 PM

Andrew Lloyd Webber's rock opera "Jesus Christ Superstar" was an album first, a broadway show second.

What classic rock singer did Webber recruit to sing the part of Jesus, and what band was that singer the frontman for?

gboz 08-12-2004 06:02 AM

Ian Gillam from Deep Purple.

I'm sure this is right since I wore that record out when I was a kid. I still go see it whenever I get the chance. I probably know every word of it by heart.

What Deep Purple album featured guitarist Tommy Bolin?

Derwood 08-12-2004 01:30 PM

Yep, you are correct. We proceed with your question

pan6467 08-16-2004 08:17 PM

since it has been 4 days I'll try to start this thread again.

Before the KINKS what famous band did drummer Bob Henrit play in?

KWSN 08-17-2004 04:40 PM

I think I know this one, is it the Roulettes?

pan6467 08-17-2004 07:20 PM

Nope not the Roulettes....as far as I know....... this band is more famous than them by a long shot. Here's a couple hints...

KINKS bassist Jim Rodford also played for this band,

his (Jim Rodford's) cousin was the leader

it evolved from the band "the Zombies"

The band was named after the leader

Can't think of any better clues.... so just "HOLD YOUR HEAD UP'

perripken 08-17-2004 09:48 PM

Oh, I think that clue was too easy Pan!
It has to be Argent- The "hold your head up" did it for me! It was Ron Argent, right?

pan6467 08-18-2004 02:38 AM

yes, it is Argent

another great band but underrated severely.

Had to get the thread moving again.... lol
your turn Perri.

roachboy 08-18-2004 06:26 AM

an interloper asks: what band did rod argent play keys for before argent?

perripken 08-18-2004 09:23 PM

That would be the Zombies, Roachboy! And I was wrong... it's Rod Argent, not Ron.
That is indeed Rod tickling the ivories on "Time of the season" by the Zombies.
Ok, since I like to stay with current themes if I can, Rod Argent had a solo album in 1978. Who played the drums on that album?

perripken 08-19-2004 10:27 PM

Man..... I can't believe I got a stumper on that one.
It was none other than Mr. Phil Collins, drummer extrodonaire!
New simple question:
Who was the frontman for the band Free, went on to be the singer for Bad Company!!
Can you tell I want someone else to take this over?

God of Thunder 08-20-2004 04:23 AM

Finally, one I can jump back in with.

That would be Mr. Paul Rogers.

Now children, take a trip back with me to a time called the Eighties. It was a magical time with big hair and bad music, called "Power Ballads" (Can you tell that my boss is gone an I have way too much free time on my hands? )

What guitarist was brought in to help out Whitesnake with their venture into the pop world with power ballads and pop hits on their 1987 album "Whitesnake"?

jimk 08-20-2004 09:17 AM

buck owens.

Tusko 08-20-2004 10:27 AM

buck owens?! as in chickin' pickin' buck owens and the buckaroos??

God of Thunder 08-20-2004 11:24 AM

No, but that would have made one hell of an interesting album.

Booray 08-20-2004 12:14 PM

Sion 08-21-2004 06:05 AM

I believe you are looking for the name of Steve Vai.

God of Thunder 08-21-2004 06:48 AM

Nope, Coverdale added Vai for the next album, "Slip of the Tounge"

The guitarist I was looking for was Adrian Vandenberg. He did most of the solo's on "Whitesnake" and even toured with them, because Coverdale had fired the rest of the band that had played in the studio on that album.

New one, should be easy.

This artist has worked with many other artists, including Mick Ronson, John Lennon, Mick Jagger, Brian Eno, Stevie Ray Vaughn and members of Chic. His bands include Tin Machine, Spiders, Feathers, The Lower Third and The Buzz.

Who is he?

KWSN 08-21-2004 11:07 AM

David Bowie of course. I think.

God of Thunder 08-21-2004 11:37 AM

Of course it's David Bowie. AKA The Thin White Duke, Ziggy Stardust and David Jones.

KWSN 08-22-2004 01:11 PM

excellent. new question:

when Bob Dylan and Janis Ian were big underground rebellious folkies way back when, what names did they go by?

Hint: the answers are _ boy _ and _ girl _ and the words in the blanks are the same for both of them.

Sion 08-22-2004 08:53 PM

I knew the answer was either Vandenberg or Vai, but couldnt remember which of them played on which album. And something about the way you phrased the question made me think of Vai. As I recall, wasnt Vandenberg uncredited on the "Whitesnake" album, though he then played on the subsequent tour?

gboz 08-23-2004 11:44 AM

Whoa, hold your horses! The reason Vandenberg was not credited on the "Whitesnake" album is that he did not play on it. John Sykes did. Vandenberg was hired for the tour and they went back and re-recorded the solo for "Here I Go Again" so he wouldn't look so stupid in the video pantamiming something that wasn't even him. He stayed on to write the songs for "Slip of the Tongue" but Steve Vai wound up playing on the record. He claims he had a wrist injury that prevented him from recording the album but it's rumored that they were able to get Vai so they did. I usually spend a little time researching my questions first to make sure I have it right.

Sticky 08-23-2004 04:50 PM

oops................!!!

God of Thunder 08-23-2004 05:10 PM

I went by the fact he was listed on the album as having played on several songs. But, if what you say is true, then I was duped like everyone else. I know for fact he was on the tour, because I saw them in Detroit that summer. I definatley remember being excited about the fact Adrian was with the band and that was part of the reason I went to see them.

Looks like Whitesnake pulled a trick from the KISS bag by listing a person on the album who didn't play. (KISS did that with "Creatures of the Night". Ace was pictured and listed, but never came near the studio. Vinne played most of the tracks.)

I did research it BTW and even Allmusic.com show Adrian as playing on the album even on tracks other that "Here I Go"

KWSN 08-23-2004 05:30 PM

uhm... anyone have answers for the question at hand?

perripken 08-24-2004 06:50 AM

I would say that your question is a stumper KWSN, or everyone was so overwhelmed by the previous question that yours got lost in the shuffle. Go ahead and give us the answer and a new question. By the way, Hi everyone!

slugo 08-24-2004 07:35 AM

is the answer cowboy and cowgirl?

KWSN 08-25-2004 12:52 PM

The answer was Blind Boy Grunt and Blind Girl Grunt.

New question:

Who penned the song "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?"

jimk 08-26-2004 11:04 AM

wild guess......donovan?

KWSN 08-26-2004 06:11 PM

nope, much older than that.

Pete Seeger.

One of the most heartfelt antiwar songs....ever.

Where did "Three Dog Night" get their name?

gboz 08-27-2004 04:57 AM

I heard this a long time ago but I'm not sure it's right. In the old days the family dogs were brought in to keep the family warm, sleeping with them at night, and the colder the night the more dogs were needed. An exceptionally cold night was known as a 3 dog night?

gboz 08-27-2004 07:59 AM

If I'm right someone else ask the next question as I won't be around till Monday morn.

QuasiMojo 08-28-2004 10:20 PM

AND YOU ARE RIGHT GOOD SIR!
and without being a threadjacker....(c'mon gboz you answered )...ok.

Lets mix up the Bag O' Trivia¸¸™ and see what we can find...

Ooohh, that's a good one.

What drummer appeared as an extra as a kid in The Beatles first movie "A Hard Days Night"?

Booray 08-31-2004 06:53 PM

i'll guess phil collins since he's the answer to a bunch of the drummer trivia, is british, and seems about the right age

perripken 08-31-2004 10:39 PM

Hey look, it's the God of Thunder! Ain't seen you in age's!!! I'm gonna guess Keith Moon.

Sion 09-01-2004 02:18 AM

Im gonna go a different direction and guess Mitch Mitchell

God of Thunder 09-01-2004 03:12 AM

Nope, Booray had it right from the start.

Good deduction by the way.

Booray 09-01-2004 10:57 AM

thank yuh

can't really think of a good question. anyone who can come up with one, go ahead

God of Thunder 09-01-2004 11:54 AM

OK, I'll go again to make up for some missed time. (Don't ya hate it when they actually expect you to work at your job?)

What band is known for recording at least one track per album while completely nude?

No...it's not KISS **shudders**

mb99usa 09-01-2004 12:03 PM

Red Hot Chilli Peppers

I'll wait to make sure I'm right before asking.

God of Thunder 09-01-2004 04:38 PM

Nope. They are known to perform live that way, though.

This band is Canadian if that helps.

KWSN 09-01-2004 05:35 PM

still having trouble coming up with a decent question. anyone that wants to ask, go ahead

Booray 09-01-2004 06:53 PM

tspikes51 09-01-2004 06:54 PM

Shitty and easy question, but here it goes:

Kirk Hammett's guitar teacher also taught the lead guitarist of what popular band from the 90's???

Booray 09-01-2004 06:56 PM

What famous and highly influential jazz pianist was recruited for Southeastern Louisiana University on a flute scholarship, where he received a thorough background in theory, played in the marching band, and also led his football team to a league championship as a quarterback before graduating as a piano major in 1950?

Booray 09-01-2004 07:28 PM

gotcha. didn't know that

reposting my question on this page so no one has to go back a page to see it:

Someone already guessed Thelonius Monk, and that's not it.

perripken 09-01-2004 09:35 PM

There are two questions on the board, however, Booray's question is the valid one, Sorry Samspear.

QuasiMojo 09-01-2004 09:39 PM

I'm going to assume I'm correct and go ahead and ask a new question since it's been over 24 hours since quasi asked and over 24 hrs since I answered.
This should be relatively easy for all you music trivia officianado's:
Who gave up his seat to Ritchie Valens on the ill fated plane on the "day the music died"?

warrrreagl 09-03-2004 07:19 AM

Waylon Jennings

What is Paul McCartney's middle name?

God of Thunder 09-03-2004 07:51 AM

This is a trick question, because his middle name is Paul.

Paul Paul McCartney you ask?

No, silly. His full name is James Paul McCartney.

Nice try.

Who replaced Joe Perry and Brad Whitford when they left the group for a short time in the 80's? Bonus points if you name the only album the replacements recorded with the group.

perripken 09-03-2004 08:55 AM

Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay
Bonus:
Rock in a hard place

Even being a huuuuuuuge Joe Perry fan, this album had one of my favorite Aerosmith tune's on it "When the lightning strikes"
I have to think of a new question BRB

KWSN 09-03-2004 08:57 AM

Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay filled in on Rock in a Hard Place.

perripken 09-03-2004 08:59 AM

Sorry KWSN, beat you to the punch... You'll probably get this one though, I'll stay with Aerosmith trivia.
Who did Brad Whitford team up with when he left the band?

KWSN 09-03-2004 09:18 AM

Ted Nugent's former guitarist, Derek St. Holmes

However i dont have a follow up question because im fucking tired as hell. Open season for whoever wants to ask one.

Ella 09-04-2004 04:58 AM

Can it be Australian? OK.....so be it.

Name the song Nick Cave wrote about a girlfriend of his in the late '80's. She also starred in an underground movie which starred the late Michael Hutchence of INXS around the same era.

tspikes51 09-04-2004 09:19 PM

Deanna

Someone else can have a turn now....

God of Thunder 09-08-2004 04:09 AM

Jump start!!!!

What was the name of the album the Allman Brother released after Duane's death? The one that was supposed to have a cryptic title as to how he died?

Booray 09-08-2004 05:06 AM

Well, Eat a Peach, although half of the songs were cuts recorded before Duane died, was the first one released after his death as far as I recall.

God of Thunder 09-08-2004 07:03 AM

That's the one.

The urban legend has it that Duane was hit by a peach truck, so hence the name of the album. But, as urban legends go, that wasn't true.

Good album too, by the way.

Booray 09-08-2004 07:14 AM

i'll pass the next question asking rights along to whoever wants it

gboz 09-08-2004 08:37 AM

Along those lines, what other member of the Allman Bros was killed a year later and a block away from Duane?

Booray 09-08-2004 09:27 AM

Berry Oakley. Also a motorcycle wreck

Booray 09-08-2004 09:53 AM

In still keeping with the Allman Brothers theme, what famous actor (primarily known for his TV roles) cowrote with Dickey Betts "Blind Love" and "Can't Take it With You" off the Allman Brothers' Enlightened Rogues album and "Bougainvillea" off the Dickey Betts and Great Southern album as well as providing some backing vocals on Gregg Allman's I'm No Angel album?

God of Thunder 09-08-2004 11:40 AM

That would be "Nash Bridges" himself, Don Johnson.

Ahhh, "I'm No Angel", my theme song...

Lets switch gears to the 80's. When The English Beat broke up, the members went their seperate ways to form what two bands?

jimk 09-08-2004 01:17 PM

i cannot describe the pain involved trying to get those badly bruised synapses to fire again. pretty sure they're toast...........

God of Thunder 09-08-2004 06:20 PM

Not sure what kind of hints I can give except that one of the bands post English Beat was more popular than the other. Both, however got a bit of MTV airplay at the time.

It must drive you crazy not to be able to think of the answer jimk ;)

God of Thunder 09-09-2004 09:09 AM

No one knows their early 80's new wave? For shame...

As much as a lot of people would like to forget it happened, it still is a key part of the music scene. Bands like Depeche Mode came out of that era.

Even though the 24-hour mark isn't up, I won't be around to check up.

So, here's a little history lesson. Dave Wakeling and Ranking Roger left The English Beat to form General Public, which fared OK, but not as well as hoped. The rest of the band found out about the split from news accounts and decided to form their own group, Fine Young Canibals. (hence the drive you crazy hint mentioned above). FYC went on to much bigger success in the US than General Public.

I throw out the next question to the general populus.

Admit it, you're surprised a KISS fanatic knows his 80's new wave. Blame my sister, that's all she listened to.

perripken 09-10-2004 04:41 AM

great info GOT! You never cease to amaze me.
I would take this opportunity to jump in with a question, but I will be in baltimore all weekend. Hopefully I will see the Oriole's spank the Spankee's, but I'm not holding my breath!

God of Thunder 09-12-2004 05:24 PM

Ok let's stay in the 80's but not new wave.

Two members of the legendary "Blues Brothers" were also one time members of another legedary group. What band did Steve Cropper and Donald "Duck" Dunn once play for?

Booray 09-12-2004 06:08 PM

For some reason, I'm thinking that it was Booker T & the MG's. Could've sworn I remember seeing that somewhere about a year ago.

Booray 09-12-2004 06:10 PM

just checked on allmusic.com to confirm i was right.

next question is up for anyone (even you GoT; you've got some good ones!). I can't think of anything

God of Thunder 09-13-2004 04:06 AM

Yes it was Booker T & the MGs.

OK, does anyone know what the MG stands for?

Booray 09-13-2004 05:01 AM

no clue on that
