I'll let someone else chime in. |
if my memory serves me correctly, the quote came from the inimitable Joe Walsh.
|
That is correct Sion
|
I hope this isnt a repeat of one I did before (but Im not about to search through 50 pages to check):
Don Henley's Grammy Award winning album "The End of the Innocence" features a song with background vocals by what screech-voiced hard-rock "icon"? Bonus points for naming the song. |
I know Axl Rose sang backing vocals on I Will Not Go Quietly. I assume that's the one you're looking for.
If I'm right, I'll pass my turn along to anyone else with a question. |
Don't know if this has been brought up, but what rock band would the brass section from
"Mad Dogs and Englishmen" go onto to play for? (That's the 1970 stage show Mad Dogs and Englishmen, not a band name, in case you got confused.) |
Average White Band?
|
Blood, Sweat, & Tears?
|
Booray, you were indeed correct.
|
wow, that was a shot in the dark.
i tried to think of another question to no avail. throwin the turn out to anyone who wants it |
Quote:
Hint: It's a woman. |
I think Paradise Lost's question is currently still pending, but since I have NO IDEA on that one, Im guessing Pat Benetar for the other?
|
I figured someone would just look on CDNow since all of fanatics of Joe Cocker that
I've found there would know the answer to mine. The brass section would end up playing background stuff for the Rolling Stones, I don't have a new question. |
Quote:
As for the Van Halen question, no clue. |
Quote:
Pat Benatar is not correct, by the way. Another hint: She was the lead singer of a short-lived 80's pop/rock band before going solo in '84. |
Patty Smyth formerly for Scandal
|
Quote:
.. |
great voice on that one, btw
|
I actually remember that rumor when it happened and was thinking WTF???? Patty Smyth singing for Van Halen???
Staying with VH, how did they come up with the name 5150 for the album and later the studio and Eddie's guitar? |

That's they way I heard it too.
You're up, Grey. |

What rock star appeared in the movie "Roadie" as well as a much later role in a film with Edward Norton?
|
I believe that would be the one and only Meat Loaf as Travis Redfish, and he appeared in an assload of movies, but I'm not sure which had Edward Norton.
|
Meatloaf was Bob (Bob had bitch-tits) in Fight Club
|
Quote:
and NNice on Tspikes51!! Kalashnikov, please allow me to break in here with a question of my own. Which member of Electric Light Orchestra also sat in for Black Sabbath? I'm sorry if I'm getting ahead of myself Sion.... |
No worries, I couldn't think of any question.
Actually I wouldn't have known that the answer was Meatloaf, because I haven't seen Roadie, but I saw tspikes partial answer and knew the Ed Norton connection. Seven degrees of separation to Meatloaf anyone? anyone?? |
Quote:
Bev Bevan sat in for Black Sabbath for a short time in the 80s, I think. Bryn |
Here's a question of a different sort (still music)
How many notes is in the traditional Chinese scale, and what is it called??? |
Oh damn, I learned that in college, but that was yeeeeaaars ago.
I think there is 12 notes, but I don't remember what it is called. |
Nope, here's a hint:
It is used in rock guitar solos a lot. |
Are you talking about the Pentatonic scale? 5 notes.
|
that'd be correct, vanblah
|
Must be Indian music that has 12 notes then. I'd go ask one of the programmers we have here who is from India, but he barely knows what a sitar is.
|
I hate to be the piffle pot here, but what in the hell is "traditional" Chinese music anyway? If you're talking about the stuff that Hollywood plays everytime an Asian walks on-screen, then I guess the pentatonic scale applies. However, much of the ancient Chinese music contains quarter-tones, which are in between half-steps, and are unplayable on traditional Western instruments. As time progressed and Western contact became more prevalent, Western anthropologists and musicologists tended to trim those quarter-tones away in a blatantly jingoistic attempt to make Chinese music sound more Western.
I think the trivia question is unanswerable as asked. |
The 12-tone scale is what most Western music is composed in. A lot of Eastern music uses 24-tone scales (or more or less depending on the instrument).
On with the trivia. I don't have a question so I will defer to someone else. |
What four legends teamed up to form the country supergroup The Highwaymen?
|
Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings were two of the four, I believe. Not sure on the other 2. Maybe Hank Williams (Sr?) was one, and Willie Nelson the other?
|
Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson are correct on 3 of the 4. Hank Sr. had been dead for over 30 years when this group got together. A hint on the 4th: he's probably known more these days for being an actor, but he wrote some really memorable songs in his time (which were really made famous by others).
Edit to say that since you already nailed down 3 of the 4 names, Sion, next question should go to you. |
The Highwaymen:
Johnny Cash Waylon Jennings Willie Nelson Kris Kristofferson |
correct. either you or Sion can throw out the next question. Doesn't matter to me. Whatever keeps the game going.
|
Ok...
What are the real names of the four members of the band KISS? |
I'll answer if no one else chimes in. Kind of a gimme for me.
|
Quote:
have no clue myself |
I'll give some clues.
I'm assuming the original intent of the question was to name the original four. I'll provide the names of ALL members of KISS. The originals: Gene Simmons - Vocals/Bass Paul Stanley - Vocals/guitar Ace Frehley - Guitar Peter Criss - Drums The replacements: Vinnie Vincent - Guitar Mark St. John - Guitar Bruce Kulick - Guitar Tommy Thayer - Guitar Eric Carr - Drums Eric Singer - Drums Out of all of them, only two never changed their name. edit: unofficially, Bob Kulick contributed on Guitar and Anton Figg contibuted on Drums on different albums. Just in case someone wanted to call me on that one. :p |
Doh..... I coulda answered that one! Figure's the almighty G.O.T. chimed in first!
Do we have a new question on the board oh thunderous one? |
Actually I didn't answer the question. He asked for their real names. I provided their stage names and gave a hint.
The question is still open. I like giving everyone a sporting chance. If, when I get home from work, the question still has not been answered, I will drop some knowledge on ya. I have a pretty good question on deck, just in case. |
The originals:
Gene Simmons - real name: Gene Klein Paul Stanley - real name: Stanley Eisen Ace Frehley - real name: Paul Frehley Peter Criss - real name: Peter Crisscoula The replacements: Vinnie Vincent - Guitar Mark St. John - Guitar Bruce Kulick - Guitar Tommy Thayer - Guitar Eric Carr - Drums Eric Singer - Drums ->Im sure at least a couple of the replacements are using stage names, but I dont know what their real names are, nor do I much care Quote:
I knew that. |
next question: after Sammy Hagar joined Van Halen (the first time) he was still contractually obligated to his former label for one more album (a pretty good one as it turned out). Eddie VH helped out on the album in what capacity?
|
He was the producer.
|
Eddie also played bass on several tracks.
Sion has the KISS question right, but just be to a geek, I will provide the rest of the info. Vinnie Vincent - Vincent Cusano Mark St. John - Mark Norton Bruce Kulick - didn't change Tommy Thayer - didn't change Eric Carr - Paul Caravello (Changed his first name because there already was a Paul in the band) Eric Singer - Eric Mensinger And to be additionally geeky, Gene was born Chaim Witz in Isreal and changed it to Gene Klein we he moved to New York as a kid. But, only a true KISS fanatic as myself generally knows that. |
I knew the stage names for the original four, but that's about it.
|

*winks* Bryn |
Ok.... so much info on KISS...I feel I'm being drafted into the KISS Army.
My question: Very easy, HP has a terrific commercial out using the beautiful song Picture Book, who sings that song? |
Quote:
|
You say Anton Figg did some drumming for KISS? THE ANTON FIGG????? from David Letterman??? Wow, I thought he just like backed up Paul Schaeffer.
Speaking of Paul, I always thought he was geeky as he'd like sit there playing his k/b with the visiting band. I never realized how that man truly has been around, I just thought he was some goof. Sorry o/t. |
pan, check out Anton's credits on AMG. You'll find he has played with some top notch talent (and is one himself) in his time. Same goes for most of the current and former members of Lettermans band.
|
Yeah, actually Paul was slated to perform with the original Blues Brothers, but his contract prevented it.
|
Yes, THE Anton Figg. He played, uncredited, on the "Unmasked" album. Peter had left the group, but they were still trying to get him back. Anton sat in on the studio sessions, but he was unable to tour because of his contract with NBC.
Wtihout a touring drummer, KISS were not able to promote "Unmasked", leading to it's demise. They held auditions and selected Eric Carr, who toured with them briefly in Europe. Eric's first album was "Music From the Elder" |
Quote:
What was the name of the group? |
Van, good catch on the trick question.
Very underrated group. HP picked a great song and did the ad with class. |

On another note.... and feel free to reply personally if you don't want to clutter up the thread with more KISS stuff, lol.... did you hear about what Gene did at a recent KISS Con? My hubby feels incredibly betrayed by the utter greed and viciousness of Gene's action and personal involvement in the raid. I was curious how you feel about it.... Bryn |
ooh, do tell....
|
Quote:
|
Okay, as I understand it, Gene Simmons recently came into a KISS Con, leading Federal agents, looking for bootleggers....
They overturned booths, confiscated materials, and generally muscled their way through the Con.... a sanctioned function, attended by fans and vendors with licensed merchandise for sale/trade. The general tenor of the guy who related the story, who was presumably present, was that Gene was balls-to-the-wall... a real asshole to the people there, flinging products around, demolishing booths, pushing people around. It's not about the fans anymore... it's about how much money Gene can make off them. He's always been pretty mercenary, merchandising anything remotely KISS that he can get his hands on... but this time he's (at least in my estimation) really crossed the line. *shrugs* I know there's more details that I'm missing, but remember.... I'm not the fan here, lol, I'm hearing about it from my hubby, who read it on one of the fansites. Bryn |
i know a guy that roadied several tours for Kiss and yeah itīs true. actually Simmons is much worse than that. Seems there was a major scene over a missing 25$ room service chit which resulted in two long time employees getting canned in the middle of tour. Counts absolutely every penny. I imagine thats because itīs all that he pays Ace and Peter. Pennys.
but they still rock. |
Was gone for the weekend, that's why I didn't respond.
Gene & Paul both have been known to attend conventions to look for bootlegs. I actually don't blame them too much. Bootlegs cost the band a lot of money, but worse, they rip off the fans. People come to these looking for genuine items and end up getting ripped off with fake merchandise. Sure there is a better way for the group to combat this, but Gene is very protective of the KISS trademark. Since there is no current question active, that I can tell, I bring you this... Duran Duran's first album was re-released in the US in the early 80's with what new song? |
Man... I leave for the weekend and all KISS hell breaks loose! Seems like my partner GOT is trying to recruit ya'll into his KISS army! (jes kiddin GOT)! No clue on the Duran Duran question!
|
Quote:
Actually I didn't even start it. Man, I get blamed for everything. :D |
Hell, if someone were to bootleg my material, I think I might have a few warrants out for my arrest after what I'd do to them.
|
Looks like the early 80s new wave is stumper material.
[evin laugh]muah ha ha ha ha[/evin laugh] Duran Duran re-released their first album in the US with the hit single "Please Please Tell Me Now" on it. I throw the next question out to the masses. It looks like I have a busy day ahead of me and won't be able to check in much. |
new question:
"Seagull you fly across the horizon, Into the misty morning sun." who wrote/sang it? |
Bad Company - Seagull
New question - The author of the book "We Caught You Plotting Murder" is also a member of a hard rock group. What is his name? |
Andrew Schwab, who's in the band Project 86, wrote We Caught You Plotting Murder
Ummm, ok... While Marilyn Manson was on tour in Sydney, Australia, something unusual happened to him.... What happened, and what did it cause him to do? |
Good job, I didn't know if anybody listened them or not...
|
*grins* I like a lot of different stuff. Usually, odd and/or not so well known stuff.

Q-While Marilyn Manson was on tour in Sydney, Australia, something unusual happened to him....
What happened, and what did it cause him to do? A-He openly sodomized a series of kangaroos on the tour bus. after which he swore off marsupials |
quest from the 80's
Q- what IS a vegamite sandwich? |
A vegemite sandwich is a sandwich made with Vegemite spread, which is made from the yeast products left over from making beer. It's an Australian product. (And kinda nasty.... a definite acquired taste. *grins*)
*grins* Kinda not fair, really.... I used to be a total Men at Work junkie. Ok, my turn again. Who are the musicians in Blue Murder, and what bands did they come from? |
shit, I used to know this. My brother tried to turn me on to them a while back, but they didnt arouse my interest much. I remember that some of the members were players that I respect. But Im drawing a total blank on their names.
|
Wow! Just looked this up 'cause I had no clue. There is some awesome talent in that band!
|
John Sykes - Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy
Tony Franklin - The Firm Carmine Appice - played drums for Ozzy Osborne |
Your question, Neptune
|
Oops sorry.
Who can name ALL the artists who have formed Kiss over the years? |
Quote:
this was just on the previous page, Neptune. why dont you go ahead and ask another. |
Oops bugga that was stupid of me :(
Ok, name 2 or more instrumental pieces by Midnight Oil |
Wow, I'm so good, I answered a question before it was asked.
|
Yes, God of Thunder you did.
And had I opened my eyes and read the previous page I would not have asked it. In fact, after seeing your name I would not be inclined to ask ANY Kiss questions lol |
Looks like a stump.
|
Yeah looks like it.
Weddingcake Island and Bakerman were the ones I was thinking of. Someone else have a go now :) |
Ohh, lets stick with early 80's new wave, since everyone seems to enjoy it so much.
/collective sound of all of the kids on this board saying, "Dude I was born in the early 80's" --me - "Muah ha ha ha, that's what makes it fun. In the band Duran Duran, what is the relationship of John, Andy and Roger Tayor? |
no relation
|
Yup. It was just an odd coincedence they had the same last name.
Your turn. |
name the one-off album project that featured Brian May (of Queen) and Eddie Van Halen.
|
Star Fleet Project
What is Robert Plant's middle name? |
- What 1974 Alice Cooper song features background vocals by Liza Minnelli?
- What was the original title of the Doors classic "Touch Me"? - True or False: Aretha Franklin was once signed to the Motown label. - Who was once told by an ear, nose and throat specialist: "Young lady, I don't know what you do for a living, but you should stop drinking and screaming so much." - What psychedelic one hit wonder band did Spencer Dryden play for before joining Jefferson Airplane? - What Lovin' Spoonful hit was inspired by the Supremes classic "Baby Love"? |
