Nope, not a maple leaf.
Maybe I should have been clearer and said "who" is on the button? |
Man... I had that on vinyl...great album! I can't remember, but I'm going to take a wild guess at Jimi Hendrix.
|
Would it be Nixon?

Is there sherpahigh in the house?
|
ok folks.... here's the deal. sherpahigh's question will be a stumper at appx. 1:20 this afternoon. There are a few answers on the board and hopefully he will get back to the forum to let us know if they're correct. It's now 12:30. If at 1:20 he isn't back, by the rules of the thread, someone can ask a new question. If he does come back, and none of our answers are correct, he should ask a new, slightly easier question.
People.... I've said this more than once. We need to keep this thread moving along. If you have a question on the board, please check back from time to time. I understand people have to work and things come up, but once again, this is why I imposed the rules in the first place. We have 21 pages in this thread and the God of Thunder and I are pretty proud of that! |
BTW- Thank you everyone for your participation. This is fun!
|
okay, i'm stepping in, then, with an easy one. and eaily verified by google, i'm sure.
Who originally wrote/performed "Girl You'll be a Woman Soon" (recently re-done by Urge Overkill) |
That would be the fabulous Neil Diamond!!!
Did I just call him fabulous??? Oh well. New question: The founder of I.R.S. records is the brother of what drummer? and yes, this is fun. Thanks for the mention perripken, but this thread is your creation. /stands up and applauds perripken for creating a great thread. |
I'm gonna take a wild guess because you are such a Kiss nut.
Peter Criss- And.... I couldn't do it without your help G.O.T. *sniff* *sniff* as a tear rolls down my cheek |
Is it Stewart Copeland from the Police.

This is fun Thank you Perripken.
Good question G.O.T. Now I have to make a hard one ............ Ok who got thier start as Bette Midler's pianist and by writing commercial jingles such as "I drink Dr. Pepper don't you know....." This might be too easy |
oh oh oh! I know this one, however, I'm going to let it go to someone else. How 'bout some new blood in here!
|
Sorry all for the late reply. I had to go out of town and expected that the hotel I'd be staying at would have an internet connection. No luck there so I was stuck, unable to check back.
Anyway, perripken's answer of Jimmi Hendrix was the right one. Good guess. |

After calling Neil Diamond "fabulous" I think it would be in my best interest to not answer a question about Bette Midler
I know the answer because my sister was a huuuuge fan of his, that is until Duran Duran came along. I swear you could play his live album and I would still know all the words. (You know, the ones that make the young girls cry. D'oh, I just gave a hint) Great question though. |

yo G.O.T. , don't give it away!

Damn thought that was gonna be a stumper. Yes it was the man who wrote the songs that made the whole world sing. Barry Manilow.
Scary thought how many knew that tho. MML you're up. |
Neil did write some good tunes. He's no Sinatra or Dean Martin tho.
|
Hey, Barry is the guy who makes the whole world sing, we all like his stuff, we just don't like to admit it.
Here is one that may be hard, I just get a kick out the guy's name. What artist kept The Beatles' Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields Forever from number? |

I too think Neil Diamond is fabulous!

Ok sorry it took so long...........
Before forming Led Zeppelin Jimmy Page approached 2 members of another band to form a band......... One of those men said "That would go over like a lead balloon." (hence the name Led Zeppellin). who were the two band members and what band were they from? |
BTW I know Sinatra and Martin didn't write most of it was Sammy Cahn (sp) and in later years men like Paul Anka. My point wwas Neil's a good showman those 2 men were great.
|
Gonna throw out Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck but that probably isn't right
edited to add the band. Yardbirds? |
I know that Keith Moon from The Who was the one to coin the "lead ballon" phrase, so I'm gonna say Moon and Entwistle.
|
Yes IT WAS Moon and Entwistle. Damn You GOT thought I had a good stumper.
According to the rumor, Page met Moon and Entwistle at a bar and heard how disheartened they were with the Who and the fighting between Pete and Roger. Page then suggested they form a band and that it would be the greatest band on Earth. Moon then said it'd go gover like a Lead Balloon. Page liked the name but changed Lead to Led because "those idiots in the US will probably say it like Leed." Anyway, true or not it's a great story that's been around. You're Up Mr. GOT |
It's damned near impossiblre to have stumper while perripken and me are around. [evil laugh]muah ha ha ha [/evil laugh]
Actually, I read Page's book "Hammer of the Gods" and I remember the story with Moon. I guessed on Entwistle. So. I'm up eh? I could go KISS again, but no. Let's see.... What band is famous for never having a number one song. Their biggest hits only made it to number two. Who were they, and what was the main reason they never made it to number one? |
Was it The Grateful Dead?
|
Nope. I'm not sure if they had a number one hit or not. That's not the one I was thinking of though.
I just checked and "Touch of Grey" went number one for the Dead. |
The Who?
|
Nope.
This band started life out as "The Golliwogs" if that helps. |
I am not sure about this, but I think I heard somewhere that Credence Clearwater Revival was once the Golliwogs.
|
Yup.
Looks like I almost had a stumper. CCR had seven songs reach number two. In most of the cases (I'm not certain this happened with all seven) the reason they couldn't get to number one, was that The Beatles held the number one spot. You're up mml. |
Wow, I was right.
How about this one: What group was formed by Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company), Chris Slade (Manfred Mann), and Tony Franklin (AC/DC)? I think this will be an easy one, but we will see. |
Duuude!!!!!!
That was going to be my next question!!!! Cue the Twilight Zone music  I just heard them on the radio the other day and it brought back memories. |
Thats too funny, I heard them on the radio this morning, and figured it would be my question if I got CCR right. Do you want to answer or give someone else a chance?
|
I'll let someone else try it. If no one else steps up, I'll answer.
|
"What group was formed by Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company), Chris Slade (Manfred Mann), and Tony Franklin (AC/DC)?"
almost too easy: the Firm my question: name the album by a certain classic rock band that had 4 different covers and came packaged in a plain brown wrapper. bonus points if you can name the pseudo-country/western song on this album that is titled after a type of food by big-city street vendors (and also at ballbarks everywhere). |
led zeppelin..........in through the out door.
hot dog is for bonus points. assuming i'm right.....name the lead singer of mother lovebone that died of (go figure)a heroin od. the remaining members went on to form pearl jam. |
I don't know the answer, although I love pearl jam.
Trivia Buffs: I sent a PM to God of Thunder yesterday to let him know that I have made a tough decision to get rid of my internet service for financial reasons. I know that Thunder has a new baby and that limits him from keeping this thread moving... I'm asking some of you regulars to help him out. He suggested that I get one of the free providers, and that is a possibility, although I'm spoiled with high speed right now and don't know if I can be patient enough to surf with dial up. I do have internet at work and will check in at least once a night, but I don't like surfing too much at work mainly for the fact that I should be working! I won't keep any more of your time, and am sorry I had to use this thread to let you know, but didn't see any other way. I just want to say thank you to all the contributors. I've learned alot more trivia, which was my goal in the first place. Peace! Perripken |
The answer to the mother lovebone question is Andy Wood.
As an extension to that question, who was one of Andy Wood's housemates who wrote some songs in tribute to Wood then went on to record those songs with members of Pearl Jam and what was the project called? Thanks perripken for starting the thread and keeping it in line. Hopefully things will move along nicely in your absence. Also on that note, I'm leaving right away on business again, the hotel should have an internet connection but if I don't respond to the answer by late tonight the answer is easily found on google. |
Perrip hope all goes well and you will be missed. Nice to know you will be here once a day tho.
Have no clue as the 90's and today's music just doesn't get me. |

You're up. |
Hmm, okay. Sorry 'bout the wait, folks. My question (resist the google, my son...):
"What was the name of the rock band on The Muppet Show?" |
No google need.
I believe it was Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. |
So right, GOT... your serve.
|
Damn, I even know my Muppet trivia.
OK, another easy one to bring in some fresh blood. What band was formed with members of Styx, Night Ranger and Ted Nugent? |
an eeeeeeeeee mal play drums
all I could remember about the band |
Damn Yankees yes?
I think I'm correct, so here is my question... Turtles members, Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman, famous for their hit "So Happy Together", went on to sing with what group? |
Quote:
|
Quote:
I did not know that. Possible stumper here. |
Great question gutter... I too had to cheat!
GOT... I can't believe I wasn't here for the Damn Yankees question! Styx is my favorite all time band. I saw Damn Yankees in concert. I wish they'd do another CD. The combo of Tommy, Ted, and Jack was awesome! |
Saw 'em with The Madman in Detroit on new years eve 1989. Awesome show.
|
Hmmmm I know Ray Davies of the KINKS produced one of thier albums. (The Turtles that is).....
Had to Google great question. Never would have guessed. |
What happens now? Should I give away the answer,or give it some more time?
|
Rules are that if no one has answered in 24 hours, it is ruled a stumper (yay you!!).
You give us the answer and you ask another (hopefully easier) question. |
It's been 24 hours! The answer is "The Mothers of Invention" led by musical madman Frank Zappa. I would have accepted just Frank Zappa too.
Ok next question...Name the group that the two guys in my avatar were in. Hint: My custom title is one of this groups biggest hits. Good Luck! |
Damn GOT this guy asks some hard questions.......
I'll take a shot, only because the guy wearing the hat reminds me of Lionel Ritchie and say the Commodores. I know I know brrrrrrrrrrrrrztttttttt wrong answer thank you for playing come again soon. |
Your in the right time frame and right genre, however, you are incorrect.
|
It's the 'fro's and the clothes that date the picture. Gutter, man you got some tough questions in you.
Good to have you here! |

It's not Earth, Wind and Fire.
Another hint: There song Strawberry Letter 23 reached #1 on the R&B charts in June of '77. #5 on the pop charts two weeks later. |
Huge hint! Brothers Johnson
|
Ok, hopefully this one will be easy. If I don't get an answer before I leave work, I'll throw a couple huge hints in.
Name the band: Steve Priest, Brian Connolly, Andy Scott, Mick Tucker |
That's correct. I have not the slightest idea on your's though, those names are unfamiliar....
|
Ok folks, I'm going to give a big hint....
In the beginning lyrics to one of their biggest hits, the lead singer says: Are ya ready Steve? Uh huh Andy? yeah Mick? ok Well alright fella's... let's go! |
perripken, your hint was too easy and gave it away.
the answer, of course, is Sweet. the song from the hint is "Ballroom Blitz" ok, my turn: what musician from a "New Wave" band big in the 80's (primarily) did the original music for the movie Four Rooms, featuring, among others, Tim Roth and Quentin Tarantino. hints to come, if necessary |
hints:
the group came out of northeast Ohio. the band featured a pair of Bobs, and two sets of brothers. the answer to the question is not one of the Bobs. |
resists the urge to look it up and takes a guess based on clues.
I know that Danny Elfman works a lot with Tim Burton, but not sure if he ever worked with Tarantino...Also not sure if they're from Ohio. Might be Devo you're taling about, so I'll go with Mark Mothersbaugh. /crosses fingers. |
damn good guess there GoT.
your question. |
Well, they were pretty good clues.
This one should be easy enough for some of you. I won't be able to check in later, so if ya think ya got it, just ask away. What underground band was formed by Berklee College of Music students. |
No takers????
Ooooh I'm surprised so far. shame, shame, shame. Maybe the name John Petrucci will jar your memories. Now, go hang your head in shame. |
Sorry GOT, I googled and I'm not familiar with them. I have heard of them though, Guess I'm an old fart!
|
Wow!!!!
The shame. I thought most of the music fans in this board were pretty big Dream Theater fans. Sion, Derwood, I'm looking your way. I thought others were into them as well. Ok, an easier one. Hands on buzzers everyone. What album had the longest run on Billboard's Top 100 chart? |
Wild stab in the dark.... Thriller?
|
Quote:
Quote:
gonna have to go with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon |
Yes, Dark Side fell off the charts sometime in the late 80's I believe.
Sorry about the confusion on the Dream Theater question. I wondered if the underground description would throw anyone off. But, the way I figured it, they are not considered mainstream. I figured the Berklee and Petrucci hints would settle any questions. Oh, well. My bad You're up sion. |
ok, here's an oddball type of question:
name the one word Yes album title that is "featured" in the movie "A Christmas Story" |
hint: it has something to do with the "major prize" Ralphie's father receives.
|
Fragile
I think it's Italian |
Gawd, I hate that movie!!!!!!!!!!!!
/editorial |
If I'm correct, I pass the next question on to whoever posts their's first. I got nuthin'.
|
I believe Booray is right.
Someone needs to come up with a question. Give it a shot Booray. It doesn't have to be a stumper. Ask us anything, it keeps the game going. If not, you all know the consequences. I have couple more KISS questions I could pull out. muah ha ha ha ha ha |
Booray is correct.
|
No new questions eh???
You were warned!! KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick once played in a band with what "no talent ass clown"? Bonus points if you can name the movie reference for the ass clown quote. (hint: The movie is not KISS related.) |
Hints needed??
OK the "ass clown" quote comes from the movie "Office Space". There is a character in that movie with the same name as a pop singer. He (the character) refers to the singer as a "No Talent Ass Clown". I tend to agree, but that's just a personal opinion. So what pop singer did Bruce play guitar for? |
Guess that'd be Michael Bolton. Nice credentials for that guy.
I celebrate his entire collection. Thinking of a decent question.... |
Peter Gabriel's first hit "Solsbury Hill" was about a concert he saw and how it inspired him to leave Genesis to pursue a solo career. Who's concert did he see?
|
See, told ya you could come up with a question. And a damn good one it is. I love the song, but have no idea what it is about.
As for the Michael Bolton answer...yes. They were in a band together called "Blackjack" I believe you have my stapler... |
Office Space is a great movie. I was able to appreciate it so much more when I got my first "real" job working with a software company.
Read a little more about my question (which I had seen somewhere that I would assume to have reliable info) and found that it's not entirely accurate. According to a couple of Genesis and Gabriel bios, Gabriel told the band members he was leaving in December 1974, early in the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway tour, which ran until May '75. Gabriel himself wrote a statement for the British papers confirming the split in August '75, in which he admitted "the decision had been made some time ago." Gabriel had said in an interview that seeing a certain person's performance inspired him to go solo and he later wrote Solsbury Hill about that experience, but according to what I just read, he didn't see this performance until November '75. So, while the performance may have reaffirmed his belief that he had made the right decision about parting ways with his band, it wasn't the inspiration for him leaving. But Solsbury Hill was still inspired by this person's show. Now for hints: A member of the guy's (yes, it's a male performer) band is "connected". The show in question was at the Hammersmith in London, but the guy is most definitely American. |
im gonna take a wild stab at this one: Bruce Springsteen.
I hope thats correct, coz I got a great question ready. |
