alright, then, no replacements fans..........
pete buck, from r.e.m. did the mandolin. i'll try again..... Q. what hotel chain banned the who after keith moon drove a car into a pool? |
Was that Holiday Inn?
|
Oh damn!!!
I read "Hammer of the Gods" the book about Led Zeppelin too. I'm just gonna guess Ramada. |
OK, we're two days + from the last question. Jimk, what's the answer?
Here's a new question: What musician has played both with Frank Zappa's and Robert Fripp's band? |
holiday inn is right..........flint, mi.
|
I'm gonna guess Adrian Belew, but I'm not sure if it's correct.
|
Quote:
/hangs head in shame btw, that Holiday Inn has since closed, but I doubt the band had anything to do with it. |
perripken is right, Adrian Belew is and/or was guitar and vocals for both King Crimson (starting in the early eighties through the present) and Frank Zappa, circa Sheik Yerbouti.
Ask away... |
Sheik Yerbouti was my favorite album by Frank. Adrian did some awesome work on that album. Best song.... Bobby Brown.
Ok, here is some hometown trivia for me. I'll allow search engine usage after 6 hours from when I post this because the band was a regional band, not national. Lou Gramm, Lou Grammatica his given name, was drummer of what band before he was found to front Foreigner? |
Wow, sorry folks, didn't realize this one was that difficult, especially with allowing the use of search engine's. Lou Gramm was drummer and singer for the band Black Sheep. I thank Tophat665 for the segway because Ian McDonald who was in Foreigner was also in King Crimson.
New question, same band. What band did Mick Jones play with before forming Foreigner? |
Ok,Ok, maybe I'm showing my age here or you guys just aren't in this forum because the titty board ain't here any more.
The band that Mick Jones was in before Foreigner was Spooky Tooth. To adhere to my rules... here's one that everyone should get. Bob Dylan's son Jacob is the frontman for what group? |
That would be "The Wallflowers"
We'll stay with the "easy" theme right now to keep this going. Who held the job of lead singer of Genesis before Phil Collins? |
Peter Gabriel
Geez, these really are easy! Name three different bands for whom David Grohl has performed on album |
nirvana, foo fighters, queens of the stone age
ok here is another queens of the stone age question what band was josh homme and nick oliveri in before queens of the stone age? |
Kyuass (dont know if i spelled it right)
|
Speaking of Queens of the Stone Age, what band was Mark Lannegan previously in?
|
*puts up his hand and jumps up and down like a little kid* i know i know, but i will let someone else guess first
|
Last post was 12/5, so I googled it:
Mark Lannegan was in the Screaming Trees before Queens of the Stoneage. OK, here's a multi parter: Some covers have hit it really big, but few folks know there covers. With this in mind: a) (easy) Bruce Springsteen had a song on his first album that became a hit, but not for him: What was the song and who got a hit performing it? b) (little harder) Tom Waits first album had a song on it that was made into a minor hit: Again, song and band who made it a hit? c) (pretty darn hard, I think) Sublime peformed a song called "Smoke Two Joints". While thoroughly in character for them, it is, in fact, a cover. What band first performed it, and what state are they from? |
Quote:
|
Part 1 - "Blinded by the Light" - Mannfred Mann's Earthband
|
ADM, Derwood. Both right.
Here's what we're left with: b) Tom Waits first album had a song on it that was made into a minor hit: Again, song and band who made it a hit? c) What state are the Toyes from? |
a) ol' 55, which was murdered by the eagles.
|
There is a problem with multi question posts and don't feel bad because I was guilty of it myself. Now we have two different people who answered the question. Let's keep it to single questions from now on. OK?
|
Perripken, I agree. I must admit I hadn't thought of that, but trivia often drives logic from sight.
With that in mind, the answers: a) Blinded by the Light was butchered by Manfrred Mann's Earth Band. Derwood answered second and got all of it. b) Ol' 55 was redone by the Eagles and arguably murdered. jimk nailed that one, but got it last. c) The Toyes, from Hawaii, originally penned and performed Smoke Two Joints (props to Dr. Demento for playing that one). ADM got the Toyes, but not the state, but he answered first. Sorry for the confusion. I appeal to perripken as Thread Master to name the next questioner. |
I would have to say that since Derwood chimed in first, he should be the one to ask.... sorry Jimk. By the way, I personally liked the Eagle's rendition of Ol' 55, but that's why we live in a free society, correct?
|
Alrighty.....let's see then.....
Roger Waters employed a famous british guitar player for his first solo album, "The Pros and Cons of Hitch-hiking". Who was that guitarist? |
Wasn't that Eric Clapton?
|
Well, I cheated and verified it myself, so here is the next question.
The 80's band Asia was a "supergroup" that pulled its members from other groups. Who were they and where did they come from. [edit:] The members changed slightly during time, I'm looking for the original lineup. |
Geoffrey Downes- Buggles, John Wetton- King Crimson, Carl Palmer-E.L.P.,Steve Howe- Yes
What a lineup ist was! I saw them in Rochester NY in May of 82, still have the ticket stub somewhere. |
The biggest reason I remember that concert was that I took a girl to it that I had always fantasized about in High School. She had big hoots, and I got to unveil them that night! Thinking of next question........
|
Here goes... I'll stick with an Asia offshoot. When Steve Howe left Asia, he formed a new band with Steve Hackett from Genesis.
What was the name of that band. |
Well, since no one else is going to take a shot, I'll answer with GTR. I was a big ASIA and Yes fan myself back in the day.
Since we're on the subject of merged groups, When Powerstation formed, they never really intended it to be anything more than a studio project. The album became powerful and there was pressure to tour. Robert Palmer, however was already in the studio, so they got someone else to sing on the tour. Who was he? |
I step aside to let someone else answer. Great question G.O.T.
|
Hey G.O.T., i heard somewhere that it was because Andy Taylor and Robert Palmer had a falling out, so Robert left the band. Could be nothing more than media dirt, though.
|
Could be, I just know that Robert didn't tour. He released "Riptide" right after that.
At least I got to see them when they came through here. |
I'm jealous, I saw Robert solo, but never Power Station.
|
At least you saw ASIA, I'm jealous about that.
Looks like it might be hint time. He ex-wife is famous for her tell-all book about being a groupie. |
Well, looks like I had a stumper.
Powerstation used Michael Des Barres as their lead singer for the tour. His ex-wife Pamela was the one I was talking about in the hint. Looks like I'm up again. I'll keep it easier. Who is Reginald Dwight better known as today? |
I knew it, but tried to let other people answer. Then I got busy and couldn't get back to the computer. I know who Reginald is too!
|
Reginald Kenneth Dwight is better known as Sir Elton John.
|
Assuming that I am correct about Elton, I will propose a new question. Who inducted Elton into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame?
|

|
good answer mml... good to see a name I haven't seen before. The floor is yours. Please ask a trivia question.
|
Sorry... I see that mml did ask a question and nobody answered it, therefore it is a stumper. mml, we're waiting for a new question.
|
couldn't find the answer on the r&r hall of fame website
|
Well.... it's been three days since mml answered correctly. The last person with an answer before that was none other than our own God of Thunder. GOT... I think you should ask another question. Thanks
|
Meeeee! I get to ask another one??
/blushes OK, here it goes. Cynthia Rhodes, who appeared in "Dirty Dancing" "Flashdance" and the 1984 film "Runaway" with Gene Simmons (It always comes back to KISS with me doesnt it? ), filled in the lead singer spot for what 1980s group after the original one left? /starts the Jeopardy music |
Hey sorry about not getting back on the answer to the question, " Who inducted Elton into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame?". I had to go out of town unexpectedly.
The answer, oddly enough, is Axl Rose. Once again, my humblest apologies for the tardy response. As for the Cynthia Rhodes question, I am not sure, but my wife swears she sang for Animotion(spelling?). |

That's ok mml.... hope everything is ok.... looks like you have the floor again.

I told my wife she had to come up with something, and she sent me this. I am pretty sure she did not come up with it on her own, but here it goes.
"This group acquired it's name from the band's high school gym instructor?" |
Lynard Skynard.
The teacher's name was Leonard Skinner. Good question by the way. Heard this song on the way home from work the other day and thought, ooohhh, that would make a good question. Foreigner's "Urgent" has probably the greatest saxophone solo of all time. Who played it? |
bobby keys?
|
Quote:
He was a motown artist and leader of his own band. |
Hey, this just came up yesterday in a conversation. The sax solo was by JR Walker.
|
See, good thing you were paying attention.
Yes it was Junior Walker, the leader of The Allstars. They are best known for the hit "Shotgun". I remember being in high school band at the time. When the sax players I knew heard it, they immediatly tried to imitate and failed...miserably. Welcome to the thread MrSelfDestuct and we await your question. |
The 24 hour rule once again is being enforced... GOT, I believe you were the last correct answer. Got any Kiss trivia? *grins*
|
Well here it goes again.
You know, I'm almost tapped out of trivia, So I will have to do some digging. Get ready for some stumpers.:D This shouldn't be one though. What gritty-voiced classic rock star came from a family of police officers and once served as one himself? |
Bob Seager?
|
joe crocker
|
Stevie Wonder
|
Nope
Nope Nope, but funny. He went through the police academy in Brooklyn, but spent his nights playing in bars. Besides singing, he is also known for playing the saxaphone. |
Eddie Money?
|
Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding!!
We have a winner!!!! Okay I need to stop eating so many cookies!! You're up Tophat |
What two members of King Crimson has Peter Gabriel involved in his albums?
|
You've already stumped the panel. I haven't checked in in a few days, but my guess would have been Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew. Was I right? You still get to ask the next question Tophat!
|
Robert Fripp produced his first two (maybe 3) albums. Tony Levin Has played Bass and backing vocals on many of his albums, including, at a minimum, his first and latest.
OK, what member of the J Geils Band played with Frank Zappa's band? (edited for clarity) |
Just a wild guess...Magic Dick?
|
That would be my guess too, GOT, awesome harp player!
|
j. geils?
|
Peter Wolf.
OK, I am outta here for a while, and I won't be back until the weekend, so I'll try and make this easy: How did Duane Allman meet his maker? Google it for confirmation and see y'all this weekend. Merry Xmas for those who do it, Merry watch the silly Christians hijack a perfectly good pagan holiday for those who don't. ;) |
No need to google, Duane died when he wiped out on his motorcycle in Macon GA.
Let's see who can catch this one. The drummer for Rory Storm & the Hurricanes went on to a band that was a little more famous, who were they? |
A little late.... but that would be Ringo Starr. Sorry I was doing alot of Christmas celebrating. By the way... Merry Christmas everyone! The floor is yours GOT!
|
Actually I was looking for the band he later joined, but I'm sure you know that was The Beatles.
In the spirit of the holiday season, I give you the next question perripken. You did get it right. |
Allright, time to kickstart this thing again.
Let me see... Digs down deep into Bag O' Knowledge. Ahhh...A good one. Marvin Gaye is well known for his rendition of "I Heard it Though the Grapevine", but was not the orginal artist to record it. Who was? /runs away laughing hee hee hee hee hee hee *snort* hee hee hee |
Hey,
Sorry I didn't get back til today. I'm going to guess the obvious, but not sure it's correct: Creedence Clearwater Revival |
Nope, their rendition came afterwards.
I figured that would be a popular guess. Believe it or not, it was Glady Knight & the Pips. Perripken, I'll let you have the next question and take over. See my thread in the Member's Playground as to why I'll be hit & miss in here for awhile. |
Ok... Happy New Years to all!
What great band was derived from the Guess Who and Wishbone Ash? |
Bachman Turner Overdrive? (If that's wrong I have another guess.)
|
Good job Tophat! The floor is yours! I will be out of town for a few days, so I won't be checking in as often.
Hey God of Thunder, congrats on the new addition! |
Since it's the holiday's and people are out of town, I'm extending the time limit to post a new question to tophat for the end of monday Jan. 5. If nothing is posted by then, I'm extending an invitation to someone new to the forum to post a question.
Once again, congrats to GOT! |
Dweezil and Ahmet Zappa covered what Brittany Spears song for the soundtrack of what (godawful) movie?
|
Quote:
The only way I'll be able to participate in the near future is if the question has to do with sesame street or blues clues or something like that. |
Baby One More Time, and Read to Rumble was the movie
That was a horrible movie. BTW, I loathe Speakers too. :) |

edit: The sick thing is, they lived just around the corner too. I guess that goes to show that most auto accident occur within 10 miles of the home... edit2: More bragging. I know Phil Walden, and, yes, he is as cokehead. |
Hey tritium, we need a question. By the way, I don't know if this was mentioned but, the reason the Allman Bros album was named "Eat a Peach" was because it was a peach truck that Duane crashed with. (or so the story goes)
|
I think Snopes lists that as a urban legend, but it's a cool story anyways.
|
The isotopic one has it! Tritium, your question.
|
The sleepy town of Macon, Georgia has been the launching point for several other national and international acts other than the Allman Brothers.
Can you name the three internationally known black musicians to start out in Macon? |
Did I stump you guys? It's easier than you think.
|
umm
lenny kravits michael jackson (he started out black) ray charles they are about the only 3 black muscians i can think of at the moment |
Well, I don't know the answers, but I know that Jackson is from Gary, Indiana.
|
The question is officially a stumper tritium. Please give us the answer(s) and under the guidelines of the music trivia thread, give us an easier question.
|
Little Richard, Otis Redding and James Brown
www.gamusichall.com Anyway...... A character from the 1960s movie Barbarella became the name for which popular band of the 1980s? Bonus: Can you name the track through which the band paid tribute to this movie? (answer: Electric Barbarella) Bonus 2: Can you name the leading actress of the movie? (answer: Jane Fonda) |
the barbarellas???
i actually have no idea but i faintly remember hearing a name like the barbarellas. i could be wrong and going insane but hey... |
Quote:
|
BTW, I know the answer to the original question, and the name of the leading actress, but I don't know the name of the song.
