Jetée 11-17-2009 01:58 PM

I thought this was the play of the week, and if you can believe it, it's the second time they've executed it and succeeded with it this season.

Danny Smith might be the only one who survives into next season. Can't say the same for coach Jim Zorn (or Buffalo's Dick Jauron).

BadNick 11-17-2009 05:36 PM

^ The defense was sleeping, or what! :shakehead:

Here's another take that probably only interests me (and Hall-of-Fame former coach Joe Gibbs):
Redskins Special Teams Coach Danny Smith Is a Keeper, No Matter What | Bleacher Report

BadNick 11-17-2009 05:49 PM

I read a commentary along the same lines in the local paper, but it was just so I can practice reading not cause I was really interested.

Jetée 11-17-2009 05:59 PM

Yeah, I need to practice reading again as well.

I'm forgetting what a 'misplaced modifier' is exactly, and I'm not all that hot at determinging the difference between 'past tense' and 'past participle'.

Spanish isn't any easier. I can pass alright in-between the borders, but if I ever have to visit Spain, I'd get eaten alive.

uncle phil 11-18-2009 03:22 AM

i've never been to spain, but i've been to oklahoma...

(i lie, been to both places but, for the sake of the lyric...)

Fly 11-18-2009 04:51 AM

you singing again phil?

BadNick 11-18-2009 06:38 AM

singing in the rain? in Spain where that plain is?

Jetée 11-18-2009 09:38 AM

the lyric doesn't rhyme?

must be missing a refrain.

uncle phil 11-18-2009 01:04 PM

BadNick 11-18-2009 01:21 PM

I can hear that train a comin'

uncle phil 11-18-2009 02:20 PM

BadNick 11-18-2009 08:54 PM

reminds me of a funny story a few years back on an Amtrak train from Phila to Charleston SC. Just for a change of pace and the experience, the guy I worked for and I decided to take the train vs fly to Charleston to visit an important customer. So it was an overnight train ride and we had one of those little suites. We're both well dressed middle aged business men on a business trip. So we light up a couple doobies and after a few mintues we hear a loud knock on our door announcing the conductor and security checking a report of something burning or smoking...so by then we were done except for the smoke and vapors in the room. I open the door and we both have shit eatin' grins on our faces and we know they can smell it, but I think they were quite surprised to see who was up to this no good so they just told us they were investigating and if we see or smell or hear anything, let them know, otherwise, stay out of trouble. After we got home my buddy told me that if you blow the smoke into the pressurized toilet in the suite and flush, it sucks all the smoke out and doesn't smell up the whole train. And we lived happily ever after.

uncle phil 11-19-2009 03:22 AM

wavy gravy had a train? wow!

Fly 11-19-2009 03:47 AM

BadNick 11-23-2009 07:52 AM

Jetée 11-23-2009 12:10 PM

So, baseball consists of nine defensemen?

(pitcher, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, home/catcher, short, center, left-,right-... is that it?)

uncle phil 11-23-2009 01:07 PM

yup...

BadNick 11-23-2009 01:16 PM

also nine offensive men ...not including all the offensive people around here

Jetée 11-23-2009 01:28 PM

Dude, I'm an excellent educated guesser.

Did I even get the postions right?

(I'm off to see if any of my friends have baseball pictures).

BadNick 11-23-2009 01:55 PM

are you sure you're not a baseball expert in disguise?

Jetée 11-23-2009 02:12 PM

No. What constitutes a "baseball expert"?

All I've ever known is a few names, a few locales, and that 'The Rays' used to be appendaged by 'Devil'.

What does RBI stand for?

Oh, I most forgot to continue my "theme"

sorry to stray away from the conversation, (how was he mean? Did he strangle ducks, or not tip the bat-boy?) but this was especially amusing.

From the Lions-Browns game, an extravaganza of a game that only 3.8% of the football population watched, and only 0.2% of the population thought was going to be a good game. It turned out to be a theatre of a match, going down to the wire, and a remarkable comeback upset from a rookie, ending 38-37, in favor. Only a small snippet:

Cleveland faked a field goal with 10 seconds left in the second quarter, converted the first down on a pass from kicker Phil Dawson, and then actually kicked the field goal on the very next play. The only possible explanation was that Eric Mangini hoped to completely catch Detroit off guard for a touchdown, because otherwise it was insane.

Well, yesterday was reading the box scores and digesting the information, and this morning, I'm reviewing all the highlights from the weekend to better appreciate what had occurred.

Simply unbelievable.

NFL Videos: Lions 38, Browns 37

(at about the 4:30 mark, I am in awe of the sort of athleticism and escapability one 'Josh Cribbs' has. It's the sort of play that makes you jump out of your seat.)

hahhhhaha........

BadNick 11-25-2009 07:09 AM

I was gonna say "who ever let the Canadians into our game..." but then I found this...probably written by a Canadian

The first baseball game recorded in Canada was played in Beachville, Ontario on June 4, 1838 (before the purported codification of the game by Abner Doubleday). Many Canadians, including the staff of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in St. Marys, Ontario, claim that this was the first documented game of modern baseball, although there appears to be no evidence that the rules used in this game were codified and adopted in other regions. The first documented evidence of a base ball game in Canada comes from a letter published in Sporting Life magazine in 1886, a letter by Dr. Adam E. Ford of Denver, Colorado, formerly of St. Marys, Ontario and Beachville, Ontario, about a game 48 years earlier in Beachville on June 4, 1838 — Militia Muster Day.

uncle phil 11-25-2009 01:22 PM

Jetée 11-25-2009 02:25 PM

Ah, I just learned that Bruce Lee was born on the 27th of Nov.

BadNick 11-28-2009 12:58 PM

happy belated birthday, Bruce....may you r.i.p.

uncle phil 11-28-2009 01:08 PM

staged, like as in "made for TV..."

Jetée 11-28-2009 02:52 PM

I like things made for TV at times, saves me the time to read about it from the transcript or in the newspaper, but without those new-CGI-visuals they stack into all the latest shows nowadays. Martial arts are nice in-person, but more of the "style" is on display in TV and in expos; if not, every single fight just degrades into a grappling match more often than not.

But still, all my televisions (up until the last one I owned, which was around 4 months ago) all had closed-captioning enabled. Even when I try to get away from reading by watching the tube, I can still read along if I want to.

uncle phil 11-29-2009 03:12 AM

i'm also beating nick at "where in the world..."

BadNick 11-29-2009 10:47 AM

how do you measure this "beating..."? In my accounting I'm way ahead.

Jetée 11-29-2009 11:34 AM

In addition to Bruce Lee's birthdate, after the podcast I let you loan, the subsequent one was of 11-26,27-07... also the date in which Sean Taylor passed away after being shot by home intruders.
