i'm confused, are you in nevada?
|
"Twenty degrees and the hockey games on..." so are you where this hockey game took place?
Are you at this club in Boston? ...if so, I don't know the name of the place if it really exists or if it's just a song fantasy "It was February in Boston, and I was cold and wanted to go home. Rum and tonic was the antifreeze, and the newspaper was full of ads for warmer climates. I was in a place owned by Derek Sanderson, who was a very famous player for the Boston Bruins in the 70’s. I came out of the bar and couldn’t find a cab except for the one that was running in front of a nearby hotel. There was no driver in it, and I was too cold to think about the consequences. There is an old Navy expression which says, “Beg forgiveness, not permission.” I hopped in and drove the cab back to my hotel. I did leave the fare on the seat.” - Jimmy |

I'm in Boston. I would be at that club but I couldn't find where that bar/club is/was. So I'm in a famous location related to both Buffett and sports. Opps, almost missed this, no hockey game connection. You couldn't play hockey here. |
How about ...Tequila Rain in Boston? Tequila Rain :: Boston
|
No. Think more well known sports location. Unless you're a Parrothead you likely won't get the Buffet connection.

I am indeed. This photo was on the CD cover I was playing at a barbecue I was having last night when I found Shell.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...fenwaypark.jpg I literally walked by my computer and saw Shell's answer and said I know where that is! Input my answer and went about taking ice out to the pool. The song "Boat Drinks" began to play and I just went with the location. Seemed to fit the evening since we were all having boat drinks and many were talking hockey, lot's of Canadians here. Kind of figured with the clues someone with the Google skills would find me before the evening ended. Fins up! Nick. Where ya headed? |
...okay, pour me sumthin' tall and strong, Tully, make it a Hurricane
...sounds like you know how to throw a good party! ...especially the ice...ice can be fun ;) (confession...what's in a Hurricane? ...never had one but i might have to try one in this heat wave we're havin'...thawed the nips though) maybe we can throw that ice in your pool... ...WTG Nick! Rock on! ...no wait...not another rock |
Hurricane-
Some rum, usually dark Fresh passion fruit juice Splash of grenadine Some lime juice Ice, lots of ice Throw it all in a blender. I never measure anything. I just grab and pour until it looks right. But probably about 4 times the rum as the lime and fruit juices and the grenadine is just a splash. Best if served before the ice melts. |
well?
|
Well what? That's how I make them.
Nick found me, waiting on him. |
Pour me one too, Tul. I'll try to get down their during the next day or so.
OK, where in the world am I this time? |
wonder what it tastes like with top-shelf single-malt scotch instead of rum...
mar still tells that story... |
Here you go, unc. I didn't think you could make a mojito without rum, but a guy I work with gave me this recipe and ...there it is!
Black Label Mojito Recipe - delish.com ...though not top shelf single malt. Let us know how that tastes. |

At my gatherings my blender's usually put to good use but I mostly stick to rum and cokes myself. I've been told I make a good Margarita, Hurricanes and a number of Daiquiris and a Chocolate Monkey. One of the many, many positives of living here is there are coconut tress literally everywhere. Fresh coconut milk and fresh squeezed fruits can really make a drink. As for life in Margaritavile, for me it's not that great. I've never really care much for tequila and based on what it does to me the next morning I'm guessing it hates me something serious. After moving down here I've had people tell me "no, you're drinking the wrong brand you need ___________." I've tried a bevy of "____________'s" and no they taste like tequila. I don't like tequila. |
have they figured out bourbon yet at "that bar?"
|
...Barefoot Contessa (the one on the Food Network Channel) was making Orange Margaritas and said the best Tequila is the cheapest you can find. Tequila does have a tendency to give headaches in the morning but not bad enough to matter. Of course men DO tend to play up their aches for some extra pampering...you wouldn't do THAT now would you tully?
...speaking of which...what is BadNick up to? :orly: |

Sorry for the delay, folks. Ever since my laptop took a dive a couple weeks ago, I think my online time while at home is somewhat down since I'm sharing our only desktop with one son; the other lucky dude has his own MacBook since he can talk his mom into anything.

 ...welcome back
...Tiera Del Fuego? |
Who invited you, anyway? ;) ....j/k dear.
That might be the shortest stint yet, yes I'm in Tierra del Fuego...HEY WAIT! No I'm not in Tiera Del Fuego it's Tierra del Fuego! I doubt that angle will fly. Here's some cool pics of the place: Tierra del Fuego (Spanish for "Land of Fire") is an archipelago 73,753 km2 (28,476 sq mi), off the southernmost tip of the South American mainland, across the Strait of Magellan. The southern point of the archipelago forms Cape Horn. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...radelfuego.jpg The archipelago consists of a main island (Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego, often simply called Tierra del Fuego or Isla Grande) with an area of 48,100 km2 (18,572 sq mi), and a group of smaller islands. The main island is separated between two countries: 18,507.3 square kilometres (38.57% of total) belongs to Argentina, while 29,484.7 square kilometres (61.43% of total) belongs to Chile. Half of this island, and the islands west and south of it, are part of the Magallanes y Antártica Chilena Region, the capital and chief town of which is Punta Arenas, situated on the mainland across the strait. The biggest Chilean towns are Porvenir, capital of the Chilean Province of Tierra del Fuego, on the main island, and Puerto Williams, on Navarino Island, being the capital of the Antártica Chilena Province. Puerto Toro lies a few kilometers south of Puerto Williams and is the southernmost village in the world. The eastern part of the archipelago belongs to Argentina, being part of the Tierra del Fuego, Antarctic Territory and South Atlantic Islands Province; its capital is Ushuaia, the biggest city of the archipelago. The other important city in the region is Río Grande on the Atlantic coast. The Darwin Range ends in the Mount Bove; this range contains many glaciers that reach the ocean. Mount Darwin is the highest peak at 2,488 metres (8,163 ft). http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...huaia6a_js.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...FromTDFNP3.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...adelfuego2.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...argentina1.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ste_island.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...0I/tifuego.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...631425250m.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2..._del_fuego.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...go-picture.jpg Good fishing, too. ...BEAUTIFUL PICS!! I wanna go...might even want to move there! It must be freezing though....but if Alejandro would keep me warm then i'm there!
...Nick...please go again...that was too quick and we all love your photos and interesting details. You're good at this so please.....you're on |
Very cool...
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...go-picture.jpg Well guess you're still up Nick. So NH? |

|
wow, it's like Christmas in here twice today! ...(ref: breathing new life into old threads www.oldthreadsstillhavealotoflifeinthem.com.com )
Thanks, Shell, that's kind of you. But now I want to find someplace that might last a few rounds...so please give me a few to figure that out. Patience...you might have to wait until I get to work this morning and post back ~9:30am unless I get struck by inspiration sooner. |
Yeah, we had a couple that were kind of designed to be gimmes, IMO. I know when I went with Fenway I was shooting for "easy." I almost put in Tierra del Fuego last night, woke up this morning and saw Shell's guess and thought "no, too obvious, can't be right."
Take your time... But don't be a dick and make it impossible. |

...no, DO take your time...you're worth it...i mean your locations are worth it...wait...you know what i mean. ...okay, back to tequila...lol. Seriously, tully...there is a tequila better than what i've got??? now i have to go out and get some of this agava kind. I'll report back (i sound like such a lush....i'm just a social drinker unless it's 90 degrees outside and requires an icy, slushy, margarita...oops...it just happens to be in the 90's today  ...Alejandro, where are you? ...bring your trout, luv. ...have you ever had a TEQUILA SUNRISE? sooo pretty and is made with orange juice...maybe that wouldn't give you headaches...be sure to get some oj in there! |
Yeah there's a lot of tequila snobs in there parts. You're actually looking for something 100% Agave azul (Blue Agave) for the best tequila. It's not unheard of for top shelf, well aged 100% Agave azul tequila to go for several hundred dollars a bottle.
Myself I like rum. Flor de Cana, 8yrs to be exact. Maybe we need to start (or find there's got to be one here somewhere I'm thinking) a "I'm a lush, the best drink is" thread? |
I'll drink to that!
Regarding tequila, I still like it and went thru a few year period where it was my primary drink when bar hopping or at a party...back then (over 35 years ago!) it was much less available around here so it seemed that Jose Cuervo Especial Gold was the best I could buy in PA, I usually poured a tall glass about half full of ice a little more than half full of the tequila, topped off with a splash of 7up and a twist of lemon. It seemed to agree with me, less hangover issues than with other drinks. Like with most trendy things, I was skeptical of how good Patron is or isn't but after hearing about it one too many times in hip-hop/rap songs that my two sons listen to, I tried it...and I was very surprised how smooth it is! Tul, I don't know if I was a misguided tourista, but when I was in Cancun (damn that was 30 yrs ago, too!) I bought back a few bottles of a Sauza Conmemorativo tequila one of which I still have...like Tul suggested, this one is a golden anejo, aged tequila made from the heart of the blue agave and aged in oak barrels for up to four years. I really like this one, too. OK, where in the world am I? |
Sauza make several labels of varying quality. Not sure I've heard of the one you speak. My guess is it's pretty good stuff.
Tequila doesn't give me a headache as much as make me feel life less and feel like a swallowed a firecracker sometime during the evening. Doesn't matter if I have two or eight, same effect. Plus I simply don't care for the taste. But maybe that's a Pavlov's dogs thing? Ok, NH? |
It does have a strange taste, but I guess I like it.
Yes, NH. |
I don't like caviar either but lots of folks love it.
Over 35 oz. of the stuff for under 8K here! WH? |
so, i got demoted from grunt to chopped liver?
Quote:

unc, I love chopped liver!...especially with smaltz (from chicken or goose). Sorry I missed your EH guess...but no, I'm in WH.
Here's one of my favorite sandwiches...pastrami and chopped liver on rye http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...edliverrye.jpg Quote:
I may have admitted this before, but I pretty much like anything almost anyone would call edible and many things most people would not call edible. So I love caviar but feel bad for the sturgeons, so I'm glad they are now selling similar tasting domestically farmed and sustainable varieties. Yummm...a spoon of caviar, a little chopped raw onion, a little chopped hardboiled egg, a nice toasty cracker or piece of bread, and wash it down with a good vodka. |

Cedar Point Amusement Park?
|
there you go...you found me. You're up, Tul.
I'm looking forward to going to Cedar Point after my family reunion/bbq/picnic in a couple weeks. Cedar Point is a 364-acre amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio, on a narrow peninsula jutting into Lake Erie. It currently holds the world record for most roller coasters (17), one of which, Top Thrill Dragster, is the world's second tallest and second fastest roller coaster, reaching speeds of 120 mph and a height of 420 feet. Cedar Point is also the only amusement park with four roller coasters that are taller than 200 feet. As of 2008, Cedar Point has more rides (75) than any other amusement park. It also has a mile-long white sand beach, an outdoor water park (Soak City), an indoor waterpark and hotel (Castaway Bay), two marinas, several hotels, and Challenge Park, which features attractions such as go-karts and miniature golf. Known as "America's Roller Coast", Cedar Point has been voted "Best Amusement Park in the World" by Amusement Today for the past eleven years. The park opened in 1870, and is the second oldest amusement park in North America after Lake Compounce. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...darpoint-1.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...om_the_air.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...darPoint-2.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...edar_Point.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...78b61764f5.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...skyhawk_05.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...edar_point.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...0I/magnum2.jpg |

Fordlândia?
...pretty interesting whether you're there or not!...: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fordl%C3%A2ndia Fordlândia ("Ford-land") was a vast tract of land purchased by American automobile tycoon Henry Ford in the 1920s. Covering over 10,000 km² of land, it was situated near the city of Santarém, Brazil, and approximately 960 kilometres from the mouth of the Amazon River at Belém. At the time all rubber was naturally produced and imported from the tropics. Ford's intent was linked to his manufacturing mentality. Ford intended to secure rubber from source to final product, increasing his bottom line. Ford intended to use Fordlândia to provide his company with a source of rubber for the tires on Ford cars, avoiding the dependence of British (Malayan) rubber. The land was hilly, rocky and infertile. None of Ford's managers had the requisite knowledge of tropical agriculture. The rubber trees, packed closely together in plantations, as opposed to being widely spaced in the jungle, were easy prey for tree blight and insects. The mostly indigenous workers on the plantations, given unfamiliar food such as hamburgers and forced to live in American style housing, disliked the way they were treated — they had to wear ID badges, and to work midday hours under the tropical sun — and would often refuse to work. In 1930, the native workers revolted against the managers, many of whom fled into the jungle for a few days until the Brazilian Army arrived and the revolt ended. Ford forbade any drinking or even smoking cigarettes within the town, including inside the workers' own homes. A settlement was established five miles upstream on the "Island of Innocence" with bars, nightclubs, and brothels. The government of Brazil was suspicious of any foreign investments, particularly in the northern Amazonia region, and offered little help. Ford tried again upstream, relocating to Belterra, where better weather conditions to grow rubber existed. But by 1945, synthetic rubber was developed, ending the world-wide demand for natural rubber. Ford's investment opportunity dried up overnight. As a result Fordlândia was a total disaster. In 1945, Henry Ford sold it for a loss of over US$20 million. Singer/songwriter Kate Campbell has memorialized Fordlandia and its spectacular failure as a modern-day parable on her 2008 album "Save the Day." Sung with fellow folk artist Nancy Griffith and co-written by Kate Campbell and Walt Aldridge, the title of the cut is simply "Fordlandia." The lyrics incorporate many of the historical facts, but in contrast to the last line of her song, the founding of Fordlandia took place near the end of many successful years of production of the Ford Model T, the last of which rolled off the assembly line in 1927. Additionally, in November of 2008, Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson released an album entitled Fordlândia. |
I am in Fordlandia!
