sorry for the delay folks, but I got tripped up in bureaucracy; though, I have good news.
with his first post in the new round, BadNick ascertained my residing country and its colors. now all that's left to do is tell me what village I'm in, and if it's not obvious why I'm there, I'll suppose I'll concede that to the victor. |
Kingstown due to the human-rights issues going on there?

---------- Post added at 07:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:52 PM ---------- EDIT: also, I may have been mistaken in my previous statement that I am within biking distance of Kingstown, because of a minor detail I overlooked in that I am separated from the capital city by a few sq. mi. of sea water, not land. I think there are such things as water-bikes, but that's not probably what you would have had in mind initially given my statement. |
I have no freaking idea.
Fort Charlotte? |
Really? I probably (inadvertently) dropped the biggest clue so far.
You're closer Tully, by looking outside the capital, but still not quite there. Given the history of Fort Charlotte, I almost wish I was there; maybe after you've found me, I'll hop a ferry to the battlesite. |

Port Elizabeth? Why? I have no idea either.

Yargh :(
It feels as though I'm leading y'all around in a circle, but I'm honestly trying to not. I'm near the capital Kingstown, remember; the Port Elizabeth guess finally pegs my correct island. (although in terms of orientation, I'm nowhere near it.) Last thing I have to say is to try to recall what day I took over this round, and it should evolve into a clear spot where I am, and why I'm there. |
I know the movie Pirates of the Caribbean and sequels were filmed in St. Vincent and the Grenadines...and the last of the trilogy, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, was released worldwide on May 24, 2007 so perhaps that's the "May 24" connection Mr. Jet has alluded to.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...3/ygpE12B1.jpg Are you being a pirate at St. Vincent Botanical Gardens, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the Western Hemisphere...I might add "preceded only by Bartram's Garden in Philadelphia"? |
la pompe?
|
sorry, I'm not a pirate in the Caribbean, BadNick, nor am I am at the botanical gardens, though that was some interesting info on the subject.
I'm not in La Pompe either. Well, since no one is going to utter redunancy and say I'm on Bequia, think of the all the different Bays on the island; in-between two of them is where I have been hiding all along. |
on this close-up of the islands I see a spot marked "Jetty"...might that be you floating off the dock in the bay?
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...%203/jetty.jpg |
there's also a "jetty" over by the old fort at the western end of belmont road...
could thet be it? |
Agai, very creative findings on the island, nick and phil, so creative in fact that I wish I thought of it first, but alas, I'm Not There
Here's a simplified map of the isle of Bequia, may it serve you well: http://www.scubamom.com/grenadines/bequia/beqmap1.gif |
I'm still not catching the connection to the date you took over this series.
I'll take a shot at The Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary...? |

Well done, Nick. The world is now yours. (Though, remember, I'm still King of Bequia ;) ) http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/920...ddc4bdbf91.jpg |
Hail to the King of Bequia who seems to have a sympathetic dome head somewhat like a turtle shell! I'm now sorry I missed World Turtle Day, especially since that third from the left reptile above is quite like my own Franklin, a red-earer slider. We got Franklin about 9 years ago when he was about 3" long and now he is over 10" long. Last year he...errrr she...laid an egg in her aqua-terrarium which I found amazing since Franklin...errr Franklina...has not even seen another turtle since birth. If I was near Bequia I would let Franklina free there but up here the winters are a touch too cold for her. I'm now setting up a kiddie pool in our yard as a temporary outdoor home for her and we'll bring her back inside to her tank early next Fall.
OK...where should I go this time? I'm accepting suggestions, but in the meantime, please give me a bit to come up with a good one. So I'll retreat into my shell ...hey, hi Shell!...and let you know when I'm there. |
OK, where in the world am I?

I should go there if that's where Stewart's Black Cherry Wishniak soda comes from since that's one of my favorite liquids

Since I just noticed this new notice at top of page, maybe I'll sneak in an application of it here:
Sometimes an important part of mature discussion - which is what we do around here - is being honest with ourselves and each other. Calling someone's statement a lie is not a flame or punishable. You are not required to believe something you know is bullshit. So go ahead and call it when you see it - just be polite about it. The statement's the thing, not the person. Quote:

...yes I am in Petra that cool rock place in Jordan that was made famous by being featured in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade ...in case it wasn't famous before that ;) or if you're not into that genre of film maybe you'd prefer its appearance in Passion in the Desert, or maybe even Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, or the one that made me wish I was Sinbad, Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger, or if you're from the MTV generation and only watch music videos, maybe you saw it in the Sisters of Mercy music video "Dominion", and of course there's the soon to be released Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, not to mention if you live only in the Game World you would see it in video games Spy Hunter (2001), King's Quest V, Lego Indiana Jones and least but probably not last Sonic Unleashed Petra ("petra-πέτρα", cleft in the rock in Greek; Arabic: البتراء, Al-Batrāʾ) is an archaeological site in the Arabah, Ma'an Governorate, Jordan, lying on the slope of Mount Hor in a basin among the mountains which form the eastern flank of Arabah (Wadi Araba), the large valley running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. It is renowned for its rock-cut architecture. Petra is also one of the new wonders of the world. The Nabateans constructed it as their capital city around 100 BCE. The site remained unknown to the Western world until 1812, when it was introduced to the West by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt. It was famously described as "a rose-red city half as old as time" in a Newdigate prize-winning sonnet by John William Burgon. UNESCO has described it as "one of the most precious cultural properties of man's cultural heritage." In 1985, Petra was designated a World Heritage Site. Too many cool pics of this place so I'm just randomly throwing some on here: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...I/17926752.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...I/10622254.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...rdan_camel.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ca180907_1.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...04a4c5fde8.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...0I/petra10.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...etra-Night.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ra-al_deir.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ra-jordan1.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...rdan-Petra.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...nscription.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...aMonastery.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...e_to_Petra.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...raTreasury.jpg This makes me hungry for some good humus tahini so I'll be back after I get some http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...%20I/humus.jpg You're up, Shell |
Wow, I'd really like to go there someday.
So Shell, NH? |
how about EH?
|
...woohoo! okay okay, i'll try to be humble
...so did you "get some", BadNick? ...cuz we don't want you bein' all cranky here (is that tahini sauce, olive oil, parsley, garbonzo beans, and hummas? yummy!) ...uh oh...i'm going out for awhile...well, it IS saturday nite!...so anyone who wants to go can go...when i get back if no one has gone i'll pick up where we left off... ...Tully? Unc? Jetee? and you too Nick...anyone? ...(BTW, Nick, i have one word for your Petra pics...WOW!) |
NH?
|
Shell, yep I got some. There is a little Armenian store near where I live that has all sorts of ethnic stuff from around that part of the world, and they also have home-made baked goods and food stuffs...so I got a container of their hummus and tahini and I have some great olive oil and fresh parsley...just missed the garbonzo's....I like that word and would consider naming my next male child "Garbonzo". Of course this just wetted my appetite so for lunch today I had a Greek gyro and man, was that good!
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...food/gyros.jpg |
shell, i'll go out drinkin' with you anytime, but you've got some unanswered questions up above...
|
hello, anybody here? or somewhere?
EH? |
...you all are the best! Waiting all this time without even one swear word about me behind my back. Well, here we go! Where am i ??? And let me just say it's a little chilly here. Name the city AND the event that i'm attending
...Yes, Tully, NH is correct ...Yes, EH, Nick (btw...ever heard of a little casual eatery called Baba Gannoug..sp? ...i get falafels there sometimes...love that tahini sauce) ...yes Phil...oh, that wasn't a question:thumbsup: (would have enjoyed it!) |
Asia?

Alaska?
I've eaten baba ganoush many times, but never been in a restaurant by that name. But there's a little chain of restaurants called Maoz and one on South St. in Philly, they have really great falafel treats; last night I even mentioned Maoz to my wife since I was in the mood for some of their stuff, but we ended up doing something else. I think there is such a high likelyhood of a successful Maoz in my neighborhood that I sent away for their franchise info...but it seems to me they want too much for it so I'm on hold with that idea. Here's some Maoz pics I've posted before: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...maozphilly.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...maozmagic6.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...maozmagic5.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...maozmagic4.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...maozmagic7.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2.../maozmagic.jpg |
...Tully, yes
...Nick, no ...yummy pics of ganoush, Nick, but actually, ...i meant Baba Ghannouj as far as the name of the meditteranean bistro chain (from the eggplant dish by the same name) ... http://www.babaghannouj.net/896622.html :) |

Are you in Shanghai anxiously awaiting Wednesday, July 22, 2009 to view the total eclipse of the Sun from there so you can be in the path of totality?
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...2009-fig03.gif |
...not shanghai but, yes, it's a big city.
Remember, i need the city and the annual event. Another clue is my post in the Obsessions thread. Please hurry because...baby, it's cold outside: |
peiping?
or beijing? |
...no, if you figure out the annual festival i'm attending then the city will fall into place
...brrrr...it's icy here...in fact, it's 40 below zero here 6 months out of the year ...not quite as frigid as Vladivostok though ...my nipples are now standing at attention and are are going to turn into icepops if you don't hurry ...lol ;) |

I thought maybe Jimmy Buffett was playing a concert in Alaska or someplace cold, but I haven't found a concert date there to substantiate that theory. But I did find this pic of a great 20 lb. class Kenai River rainbow trout...probably taste good with some beer:
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ge-rainbow.jpg Then I was wondering if that clue might lead me to a frozen Margaritaville...but I think I still haven't found you yet...but I'm having fun :) http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...rita-maker.jpg Are you in Canada? |
