Nick no, not diving anywhere. |
edit: oops....I just realized Tambora is east of Surabaya....nevermind. But this one's a cool hot one so I'll leave it:
I seem to recall that you have the hots for volcanoes. So maybe you're on one of these volcanoes? http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2..._volcanoes.gif I'll go with Tambora. Mount Tambora - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Mount Tambora is an active stratovolcano, also known as a composite volcano, on the island of Sumbawa, Indonesia. Sumbawa is flanked both to the north and south by oceanic crust, and Tambora was formed by the active subduction zone beneath it. This raised Mount Tambora as high as 4,300 m (14,100 ft), making it formerly one of the tallest peaks in the Indonesian archipelago. After a large magma chamber inside the mountain filled over the course of several decades, volcanic activity reached a historic climax in the super-colossal eruption of April 1815. The 1815 eruption is rated 7 on the Volcanic Explosivity Index, the only such eruption since the Lake Taupo eruption in about 180 AD. With an estimated ejecta volume of 160 cubic kilometers, Tambora's 1815 outburst was the largest volcanic eruption in recorded history. The explosion was heard on Sumatra island (more than 2,000 km (1,200 mi) away). Heavy volcanic ash falls were observed as far away as Borneo, Sulawesi, Java and Maluku islands. Most deaths from the eruption were from starvation and disease, as the eruptive fallout ruined agricultural productivity in the local region. The death toll was at least 71,000 people (the most deadly eruption in recorded history), of whom 11,000–12,000 were killed directly by the eruption; the often-cited figure of 92,000 people killed is believed to be overestimated. The eruption created global climate anomalies that included the phenomenon known as "volcanic winter": 1816 became known as the "Year Without a Summer" because of the effect on North American and European weather. Agricultural crops failed and livestock died in much of the Northern Hemisphere, resulting in the worst famine of the 19th century. The defeat of Napoleon on Sunday, June 18th 1815 has been partly attributed to the bad weather generated by Tambora. |

krakatau?
Bingo, I remember watching "Krakatau East of Java" as a kid. Wasn't until I was in Indonesia in Navy that I realized Krakatau is west of Java. Guess it wasn't a documentary. I can just imagine some young assistant telling the director "But Mr. Kowalski, Krakatatu is west of Java." "What's your name kid?" "I'm Jimmy Johnson sir." "Well Jimmy Johnson clean out your desk and be off studio property by noon because you're fired!" "But I don't have a desk." "Good, then be outta here by 10."
I should drink less coffee. And you should go hide. |

OK, where in the world am I? |
Are you in a superfluous place as is your weakness?
amonkie, you are so smart! In my weakness in coming up with a place this time, I abandoned my typical superlative instincts and ended up at this superfluous place. So yes!

I'm right around the corner from Peekaboo Point. Earlier in this round I said something like "no French" around here, but when I hear or see "Beausoleil" for some reason I think I'm in Nawrlins.

If you were coming to visit me, you might drive from Honey Harbour to Howes Corners, but you'd not be here yet. I said I was "in the Big George" so not near it or next to it. |
are you on Present island?
you made a right but you should make a left
you clever clever man.. are you on Beausoleil island? now the Nawlins comment makes sense.

not exactly but Beausoleil is an important clue if you think of it as Beausoleil First Nation
So Little Beausoleil Island?
Spawn is always good, right? |
i'll go with the monkey...
Nope. Head out of your protected little area and more out toward the open Bay. Look for me standing on the shore of this island waving.
North Watcher island? Cause I always knew you were a peeping Nick.
I have been known to peep, but I'm not on North Watcher. You're a bit too far north and look for a much larger island.
awenda provioncial park?
The island I'm on is not a park. I bet you could find me easier if you had one of those Jesus statues on the dashboard of your boat...he would point the way.
christian island?
bingo!!! I am on Christian Island. You're up next, unc.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...fffdebe89f.jpg I spent a week there a few years ago with a bunch of my cousins from Canada. We stayed in a strange little cottage owned by the local Indians and we had a great time. We rented a motor boat from the Indian guy who owned the trading post/general store at the ferry dock on the mainland...cool boat with fins looked like a '57 Chevy in the water. Christian Island is a large island in Georgian Bay close to the communities of Penetanguishene and Midland, Ontario. The island, with its neighbors Hope Island and Beckwith Island, is a 13,413.1 acre Ojibwa reserve, known as Christian Island 30 Indian Reserve. Together with the 18.5 acre Christian Island 30A Indian Reserve located at Cedar Point, Ontario and the 7.7 acre Chippewa Island Indian Reserve located in Twelve Mile Sound, 17.1 mi north of Christian Island, it forms the land base for the Beausoleil First Nation. One day I took my cousin back to the mainland and headed back to the island in the boat. About half way across the motor suddenly died. I tried everything to get it started and nothing worked. It was getting kinda dusky and windy as I was drifting out of the inlet between the mainland and Christian Island, out toward the open waters of the Georgian Bay. In my head I was starting to hear the song by Gordon Lightfoot about the big lake they call "Gitche Gumee" and was imagining I'd soon be looking at the Edmund Fitzgerald if I didn't get this damn boat started. I decided that if I didn't get it running before I passed the tip of the island, I'd jump and swim to shore before I was too far out to try that. Just then another motorboat approached and I can see it's two local Indian guys. As they come closer they ask me about the boat, apparently they were suspicious that I may have stolen it from their buddy. But I tell them I rented it for the week. Eventually they started laughing at this stupid white man and finally told me to hook up the gas line to the tank cause they could see it was knocked off. After I did that the boat started right up again and only my pride was injured...but thanks to those two guys, whoever you were. |
thanks, nick...
