jefferson university hospital?

BadNick 07-09-2010 05:22 AM

nope. This place has to do with the writing of the D.of I.

Zooksport2 07-10-2010 04:56 PM

"The Signer" Statue

BadNick 07-10-2010 08:23 PM

nope, not at a statue. But "The Signer" is about 2 blocks away from the house I am in.

A house that is related to the writing of the D. of I.

Zooksport2 07-10-2010 08:32 PM

I didn't think it was the statue, but I was hoping for another clue... remember that I'm not a local, so if I get it right, I want a green card........

City Tavern.....

BadNick 07-10-2010 08:39 PM

Zook, you don't need no stinkin' green card! Just come and call me when you get to the airport and I'll pick you up.

City Tavern is a good guess, and actually it is part of the story related to the house I am in, and the guy who was in that house writing the D. of I. and he got his meals sent in from the City Tavern.

and it is. Good sleuthiness, Zook. Especially for someone not from this neighborhood. You're up!

The Declaration House (Graff House)

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...raff_house.jpg

The Graff House, aka The Declaration House, is Jacob Graff's house where Thomas Jefferson spent the better part of three weeks writing his original Declaration of Independence. The Graff family was living there while he did that so I wonder if they talked about it and if they gave him any ideas? Even though now it's hard to imagine the corner of 7th & Market Sts. not being in the heart of the city, back then it was on the outskirts of old Philadelphia.

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...I/clips424.jpg

Fun Facts
- The house was once owned by Hyman and Simon Gratz. Their sister, Rebecca, is said to be the inspiration for Walter Scott's "Ivanhoe" and Thackeray's "Rebecca."
- Jefferson complained about the houseflies from the stable across the street while writing the Declaration of Independence.
- Jefferson had an account at the City Tavern while writing the Declaration.
- The site became among other things a print shop and a Tom Thumb diner.
- The Independence Hall Association (owners of ushistory.org) led the efforts to have the Declaration House rebuilt in 1975 for the Bicentennial.

Kastellet in Stockholm Kastellet, Stockholm - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I didn't find info on why it blew up. Maybe the stored ordinance exploded or some rogue Vikings got pissed off?

Zooksport2 07-16-2010 05:46 AM

Hey, what the heck?

I posted a reply a couple days ago, and have been waiting for Nick to go and hide????

Sorry, all. Yes Nick was correct again.

Nick, did you catch on to the "cryptic" clue I mentioned, or was it the "exploded" hint?

(Cryptic being a castle)

Sorry, once again......
.

BadNick 07-16-2010 05:54 AM

Zook, sometimes we need the obvious sledge hammer on the head. Thanks. But until you said a building that exploded in June 1845, I was only wild guessing where you might be.

OK, folks, where in the world am I?

clue: I'm at another one of my favorites, a superlative natural feature (not big tits this time though the Grand Tetons are gorgeous)

BadNick 07-16-2010 08:00 PM

Tully, I figured you just wanted to drag out the pleasure as long as possible.

Yes, I'm in the Canadias this time. At a superlative natural feature.

Zooksport2 07-16-2010 09:34 PM

eastern harf of Canadiaaaa?

uncle phil 07-17-2010 02:17 AM

anywhere near banff?

Tully Mars 07-17-2010 03:22 AM

Bordering on a great lake?

BadNick 07-17-2010 07:30 AM

Zook's closest in the eastern harf. So not Banff and not bordering a great lake, or any lake.

uncle phil 07-17-2010 08:51 AM

in the maritimes?

BadNick 07-17-2010 11:07 AM

no sir.

uncle phil 07-17-2010 11:18 AM

are you in quebec?

Zooksport2 07-17-2010 01:07 PM

Winnipeg, perhaps.

I do know how to spell half, and when I saw how I did spell it, I laughed. HTF did I manage that...

BadNick 07-17-2010 02:26 PM

Not Quebec, not Winnipeg. I'm more than 1000 miles from Winnipeg.

Zook, I never doubted you know how to spell halph, but I thought you did harf to interject some humor...I chuckled.

Zooksport2 07-17-2010 03:11 PM

uncle phil 07-17-2010 03:43 PM

Bordering the Atlantic?

uncle phil 07-18-2010 04:30 AM

hudson's bay?

BadNick 07-18-2010 08:54 AM

I'm pretty close to Hudson Bay, though not right on it. And not quite on the Atlantic Coast, this is more like near the Baffin Sea, though I'm not right on the coast.

Tully Mars 07-18-2010 11:13 AM

Are you in a National Wildlife area?

BadNick 07-18-2010 12:48 PM

I would say yes...I'm in a National Park area.

Tully Mars 07-19-2010 01:39 AM

Mount Odin?

uncle phil 07-19-2010 02:44 AM

are you in nunavut, more specifically sirmik national park?

BadNick 07-19-2010 03:37 AM

Not Mt. Odin, though the conceptual similarity hit me like a thunder bolt!

Yes in Nunavut, but not in Sirmik. Or did you mean Sir Nick? I heard they did name a park bench after my likeness.

uncle phil 07-19-2010 03:44 AM

bylot island bird sanctuary?

Tully Mars 07-19-2010 05:08 AM

Queen Maud Gulf Migratory Bird Sanctuary?

BadNick 07-19-2010 06:32 AM

give up the bird-brain stuff ...not a bird sanctuary or anything to do with birds.

I'm standing on top of a superlative natural feature.

uncle phil 07-19-2010 10:50 AM

auyuittuq national park reserve?

BadNick 07-19-2010 11:20 AM

yep, that's the one. Now look for a guy standing on top of a high natural feature waving his hands. That's me...I need the name of this thing I'm standing on.

uncle phil 07-19-2010 11:29 AM

Mt. Thor, this one since there appears to be at least one other out in Western Canada, features the Earth's greatest purely vertical drop at 4,101 ft (1,250 m), with an average angle of 105 degrees. The location is popular with climbers due to this feature, despite its remoteness.
