BadNick 09-14-2010 10:38 AM

are you north of Fairbanks?

uncle phil 09-14-2010 12:23 PM

uh, no...

BadNick 09-14-2010 06:34 PM

are you at the southern-most point in Alaska, at the tip of Amatignak Island in the Aleutian Chain?

uncle phil 09-15-2010 02:50 AM

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...omments/no.jpg

BadNick 09-15-2010 06:32 AM

you don't have to yell, I was just making a guess :(

Are you on Bligh Reef where in 1989 the Exxon Valdez ran aground and dumped its oil? In spite of a law mandating the operation of an automated navigation light to prevent future collisions with the reef, the tug Pathfinder ran aground on Bligh Reef on Dec 24, 2009, rupturing its tanks and spilling diesel fuel. Bligh Reef is also where Alaska Steamship Company's Olympia ran aground in 1910.

It seems best to stay away from Bligh Reef except maybe in a kayak and even then, make sure you have a tight cover on your coffee mug.

uncle phil 09-15-2010 12:07 PM

i am staying away from bligh reef...

and that was not a "yell," just a neat pic i found (and i'll probably use it again...)

BadNick 09-15-2010 12:44 PM

The "NO" didn't really bother me, unc. I was just pretending to be sensitive with feelings. It really didn't phase me and I don't give a crap if you post it again or not...well, actually I wouldn't mind seeing it. You know I like pics.

So are you at a "natural" place vs. "man made"? ...like park vs city sort of thing?

uncle phil 09-15-2010 12:50 PM

i am at a "natural" place...

and, just for shits and giggles...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...omments/no.jpg

BadNick 09-15-2010 08:12 PM

amonkie 09-17-2010 05:06 PM

Are you on a mountain in a national park?

BadNick 09-17-2010 06:40 PM

are you west of Anchorage?

uncle phil 09-18-2010 04:17 AM

i am not in a national park and i'm southeast of anchorage...

BadNick 09-18-2010 12:43 PM

uncle phil 09-18-2010 01:01 PM

uncle phil 09-18-2010 02:02 PM

BadNick 09-18-2010 04:07 PM

are you on Devil's Paw?

uncle phil 09-18-2010 04:11 PM

nope, can't even find that on a map...

BadNick 09-18-2010 05:14 PM

I'm not sure if I'm suddenly inspired or insane. But I figure you were at Tits not long ago, so maybe this time you're at Brassiere Hills. Hmmm? Brassiere Hills

unc, did you read this book: Monmonier, Mark S. From Squaw Tit to Whorehouse Meadow: How Maps Name, Claim, and Inflame. 2006.

uncle phil 09-19-2010 02:43 AM

nope, north of juneau; and no, i haven't read that book - yet...

amonkie 09-19-2010 04:17 AM

gunsight mountain?

uncle phil 09-19-2010 11:49 AM

amonkie 09-19-2010 11:52 AM

Kate's Needle?

uncle phil 09-19-2010 11:53 AM

BadNick 09-19-2010 06:03 PM

Amherst Peak?

uncle phil 09-20-2010 02:03 AM

nope...

amonkie 09-20-2010 04:41 AM

Any sort of clue about this mountain? Is it over 5,000 ft?

BadNick 09-20-2010 11:53 AM

a clue might help

I looked through a list of Alaskan peaks and ignoring the ones that are in a national park or preserve, I didn't find any in the location I'm looking north of Juneau.

uncle phil 09-20-2010 12:23 PM

Summit in Juneau County, Alaska, USA.
Latitude: 58.81667 : Longitude: -134.26667 : Elevation: 6800 ft

BadNick 09-20-2010 04:32 PM

Well that's a pretty good clue, unc ;)

So my guess above of Brassiere Hills was sort of the right idea but wrong conclusion.

I await your confirmation that you're on Mammary Peak.

uncle phil 09-21-2010 03:01 AM

i am on mammary peak...

Mammary Peak, Juneau, AK - Google Maps

Mammary Peak (in Juneau Borough, AK)

you're up, nick...

BadNick 09-21-2010 09:12 AM

You must be a die hard tit man, unc. I'll need a bit of time to find my next place.

BadNick 09-22-2010 11:19 AM

OK, where in the world am I this time?

...not up the creek without a paddle << that's not a clue, I'm just saying

amonkie 09-22-2010 11:22 AM

Are you ....... Livin la Vida LOCA in South America?

uncle phil 09-22-2010 11:35 AM

amonkie 09-22-2010 06:43 PM

BadNick 09-22-2010 06:52 PM

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...980-May-18.jpg

amonkie 09-22-2010 07:06 PM

Zooksport2 09-22-2010 10:59 PM

uncle phil 09-23-2010 03:14 AM

BadNick 09-23-2010 06:56 AM

yes in our sofa and west of the mrs. Zook, how's the penguins?

amonkie 09-23-2010 09:00 AM

Landlocked state?

BadNick 09-23-2010 11:33 AM

yes landlocked state

As you might also guess, I'm at a place of some superlative significance, though the magnitude of some aspects of its superlativeness are now somewhat debatable. I would say superlative nonetheless.

Ourcrazymodern? 09-23-2010 12:33 PM

Are you in the Rockies?

uncle phil 09-23-2010 12:37 PM

north of 40?

BadNick 09-23-2010 06:03 PM

I'm just a bit west of the Rockies, and south of the 40.

uncle phil 09-24-2010 02:25 AM

utah?

Zooksport2 09-24-2010 03:40 AM

Nevada?

No penguins here....

they don't come out west...

BadNick 09-24-2010 09:02 AM

utah would be where you would see me

not man-made, I'm a natural superlative thing

uncle phil 09-24-2010 01:15 PM

are you in a national park?

Ourcrazymodern? 09-24-2010 02:36 PM

are you a on a bridge?

BadNick 09-24-2010 05:04 PM

unc, best as I can tell I'm near, but not in...and I want to clarify/alter my previous answer to Ocm?'s question about being in the Rockies since upon further research apparently I am in the Wasatch Range of the Rocky Mountains in Utah near Fish Lake and Bryce Canyon National Park.

So Ocm?, not on a bridge.

uncle phil 09-25-2010 03:03 AM

mt. nebo?

BadNick 09-25-2010 09:49 AM

nope, not a mountain or hill or peak. think more organically

Ourcrazymodern? 09-25-2010 10:18 AM

You're not in Queens Garden, are you?

http://images.travelpod.com/users/md...den-trails.jpg

uncle phil 09-25-2010 11:49 AM

capitol reef?

BadNick 09-25-2010 05:49 PM

not in Queen's Garden, though that place looks very interesting and is now on my "must explore" list

not capitol reef

This thing, the reason I am where I am, grows.

uncle phil 09-26-2010 04:03 AM

are you in monument valley?

BadNick 09-26-2010 03:32 PM

It looks like I'm a bit over 100 miles NW of Monument Valley. I was surprised the map says it takes almost 5 hours to drive from Monument Valley to where I am. I think it's because the area is relatively remote and not many roads so the route along roads is quite circuitous.

Zooksport2 09-26-2010 03:51 PM

I think I know.... would it be: Pucker pass, near Moab?

BadNick 09-26-2010 04:37 PM

I'd have to spread about 100 miles east to reach Moab.

Zooksport2 09-26-2010 05:15 PM

So, "100 miles NW of Monument Valley" is still

oh wait, you said "over" a hundred miles...

Glacier springs?

BadNick 09-26-2010 08:06 PM

I searched google maps and can't find "Glacier Springs" in Utah.

I gave you the name of the place I am above, though in a different language than it is commonly named. It is a living thing.

Zooksport2 09-26-2010 11:54 PM

I'm a twit, You said NW, and I went N east.

sorry. I'll get back in my box now.....

BadNick 09-27-2010 06:14 AM

The name of this thing/place is actually in the sentence below but the name is in another language (i.e., not in English)

I'm just east of Koosharem Reservoir.

This thing I'm surrounded by is a superlative growing living thing.

uncle phil 09-27-2010 11:56 AM

frying pan flat?

BadNick 09-27-2010 07:10 PM

nope, but I had a nice pan fried burger for dinner tonight

here are some key word clues often used to describe this superlative living thing:

quaking
heaviest
oldest

uncle phil 09-28-2010 03:36 AM

pando?

Pando (or The Trembling Giant) is a clonal colony of a single male Quaking Aspen (Populus tremuloides) located in the U.S. state of Utah, all determined to be part of a single living organism by identical genetic markers and one massive underground root system, although whether it is a single tree is disputed, as it depends on one's definition of an individual tree. The plant is estimated to weigh collectively 6,615 tons, making it the heaviest known organism. The root system of Pando is claimed by some to be among the oldest known living organisms in existence at 80,000 years of age, though the method used to produce this estimate (an estimate on when climatic conditions were last suitable for seedling germination) is not supported by current evidence of germination..

BadNick 09-28-2010 07:34 AM

bingo! You finally found me, unc.

I actually had a hard time finding an exact location for Pando (word means "I spread" in Latin) and this is the only location indicator I ever found:

"The Way To take in Pando’s size, park at Doctor Creek on UT 25 and climb 500 vertical feet up Mytoge Mountain on the Lakeshore National Recreation Trail. At mile three, look back to see Pando straddling the road. Continue for a 15-mile loop."

You're up now, unc.
