By the way, perhaps a letter announcing "World winner" needs a validation stamp to deliver it to squeeeb? |
I happen to love all your comments, Shell. As well as the chit chat from all the other participants. For this kind of social discussion I have been accused of frequent "off topic" behaviour in some forums though not yet on TFP. But to me it's like a party where you are talking, having fun, discussing...this is not a formal debate and if it was, I wouldn't be in it.
I don't know what to say about that "jargon" meanie. I wasn't in that thread but it seems pushy and insensitive to me in most cases...unless it was GiantHamburger, he is the extreme head superburger and is never wrong. Doubleposting is when you post two posts in a row. I think, though I'm no expert on this at all, that if the timespan between two posts is somewhat long, though I have no idea how long is long, then both posts usually stay as posted on their own. But if you post two posts in a row and within a pretty tight timeframe, it is "automatically" merged by the evil double-posting genie. Here, I'm now going to see if it works that way by posting this and then within a couple minutes posting a new post right after this, and let's see what happens. ---------- Post added at 08:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:56 PM ---------- is this a doublepost? ---------- Post added at 08:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:56 PM ---------- ^ see!!! it was "auto-merged" whether I like it or not. damn!!!! triple doubleposted auto merged! <<< am now attempting to circumvent the auto merge genie...did it work? YES!!! |
It's 24 hours, Nick, last I heard.
Try clicking "Post reply" faster. Maybe you'll break the limiter, break through the barrier, and duplicate yourself. I don't believe there's ever been a tutorial, but Ch'i and I dropped hints how to do it in the archives of history thread. |
I accomplished it above in post #6402 without incurring the dreaded "Last edited by..." but then I went back and changed "pushing" to "pushy" and the edit bug got me!

Looking for a game preserve. ---------- Post added at 08:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:57 PM ---------- Quote:
Looking for this game preserve. One of my best friends, Dr. Bob, did his Ph. D. in herpetology here. Lot's of great photos and stories from him over the years. Met his wife in the middle of nowhere one day while doing research. Yer up Phil. |
I completely missed the last round but I see that life goes on! My son graduated from 8th grade so we had half day of school ceremonies and then a nice lunch and then I took him shopping for stuff he wanted.
OK, unc, where the hell are ya? |

Since you reminded me of Etosha I went on a photo journey there...what a great place. I hope I can go there some day soon. Also, Tul, I sometimes find that a couple quickies in a row can be more fun than one long prolonged one. Depends on the mood, but change is good.
|
...more confetti is in order. Congrats to your son for his 8th grade graduation. And congrats to you for doing a good job raising him. Here's my advice (not that you asked for it) as he enters high school. Make sure he stays completely busy with sports or SOMEthing because idleness is the devil's playground...especially for teenage boys. And watch out for his internet usage and those addictive games...it's a different world now.
...okay, i'll stop now :) ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::::::::confetti::::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ::::::::: CONGRATS TO YOUR SON!!! :::::::::: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :car::car::car::car::car::car::car::car::car: ...uh oh, before you know it this day will come. |
Thanks, Shell. He's already picking out cars and we're trying to be realistic about what's a good first car for a young kid (aka safe); but he seems to appreciate the fact that he won't be driving mine without me being there since it could easily be lethal in inexperienced hands. But I'll take him to some track days with me and let him learn there, so he can learn to handle things in a controlled atmosphere and work out some of that excess adreniline.
As for busy, that's great advice. His vice principal/disciplinarian told me the same thing at a recent meeting. Last couple years he's been on the school football and basketball teams, as well as on neighborhood teams. He likes sports, so that's good; and he gets honors frequently though not always. He's a good kid. He told me he wants to go to Hawaii soon, but I doubt that's where unc's going next. |
