tully - yes nick - no, no, no squeeb - no, and you're playin', aren'tcha? |
Hey squeeb, welcome to the chase.
Hmm, Phil ya in New York state? |
(...don't listen to tully...he's been a bad boy while you were gone...i'll have to punish him...how was the golf game? ...and welcome squeeeb...good to have you join us! ...and if i read between the lines, nick, your idea of chick flick and mine is..um...different :surprised:)
...new england? |
TULLY - YES
SHELL - YES fuckin' capslock... |
Tsk, tsk, tsk such language. We finally get new blood in here and you go dropping the "F" bomb all over. squeeb might take offense, never return. Then, then it'll all be your fault.
Just to be clear we're looking for the birth place of a person, right? (Shell- I've been very bad for a very long time. What, do tell, do you have in mind?) |
...geez, Phil...you don't have to yell..YES YES YES.....that musta' been a helluva golf game!
...Susan B Anthony or Gilbert Stuart in Rhode Island? |
tully - yes
and shell, golf was just a shade above mediocre today... not that that's a bad thing... |
...i take it that's a "no" to Rhode Island and Massachusetts then? How about Connecticut?

...okay, sorry tully...this is not my day...i'm out :)
|
no to all of the above...
shell, don't quit... this is when it gets interesting... |
Hey, hey, hey. Don't leave. We've all done it. I did it a couple posts above where I missed Nick's question. In fact we both did it on the same missed clue.
Certainly don't leave on my account. We need fresh faces in this joint. For what seems like forever Phil, Nick and I have been it around these parts. So, dude, famous dude... actor? |
unc, was the person born where you are famous for sports?
Hi squeeeb...glad you joined the gammme. Shell, come on! keep playing! We've all screwed up numerous times, and I think we get almost as much fun out of the mess-ups as we do of finding someone. Plus, if you stay I promise to watch anudder one a doze chick flicks. |
:) ...it wasn't anyone's doing here that made me abandon ship. I just had a moment of frustration with myself...for being on the computer too long, for messing up with the clue's, and for some minor issues with some other threads in the tfp. I actually feel safest here in this thread and consider it my home base while i venture out into the "streets" of the tfp. You all have been very friendly and respectful here in this thread and i'm very grateful for that because it's been TONS of fun as well as challenging and enlightening.
....okay, i'm in. But two things... ...what is POTUS and NSFW ? ....and could someone please recap what we've got so far? I'm still lost. I know we're in the state of New York looking for someone's birthplace, it's not NYC, and it's not an Island (which leaves out walt whitman from long island) but what else do we know? ...is it in a town (not a city)? ` |

NSFW= Not safe for work We know, so far, famous 19th centurry birth place in NY somewhere. Not a former POTUS, not a literary figure, not related to golf, no Adm. Mathew Perry and looking for a male person's birth place. I think that's it, but coffees still trying to do it's job I may have missed something(s.) Edit- I'm not sure we know it's not in NYC somewhere. I'm missing the clue that rules that out |
tully - no
nick - no shell - yes not in NYC... |
Famous for science?
|
no...
|
was this person primarily famous for being in politics?
|

|
...Issac Post's birthplace in Westbury, NY? His home was an active station on the Underground Railroad sometimes housing between 10 - 20 refugees in one night. He became implicated in John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry in 1857 and fled the country to avoid possible arrest.
---------- Post added at 01:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:20 PM ---------- OH!....and HELLO to Cielamara!!!!!!!!! We need another female in here so stick around. ...a BIG welcome from me! |

was the famous person born where you are an industrialist?
|
Richford, NY where John D. Rockefeller was born?
John Davison Rockefeller (July 8, 1839 – May 23, 1937) was an American industrialist and philanthropist. Rockefeller revolutionized the petroleum industry and defined the structure of modern philanthropy. In 1870, he founded the Standard Oil Company. |

Hi Shell...yes, Europe.
Following in unc's footsteps, I'm at the birthplace of a famous person. |

|
...black sea?
|
hey nick, i'm winning take 2 and take 3, by the way...
|
you are in poland
|
Famous person born in the 19th century?
|
Shell's right with her Black Sea guess...the country I'm in borders the Black Sea.
So not in Poland, squeeeb. Tul, yes the person was born in the 19th century. The person, as well as the birthplace of this person, have some connection to my family heritage and my name. Quote:
|
Romania?
|
...south of 45?
|
are you in Tsarskoe Selo?
|
right, Tul...I'm in Romania
Shell, I'm north of the 45 unc, I'm not rushin' to get there since I think Tsarskoe Selo is in Russia So I'm in Romania, a famous person was born in this town, the person's ethnic heritage is like mine, and the name of the town is closely connected to my name, not "Nick" but as it is in the particular ethnic language. |
brasov?
|
Quote:
...ok, i'll behave ...omg, it wouldn't be the birthplace of Count Dracula in Bucharest would it? Wait...you share the same ethnic heritage??? ` |
onesti, previously named gheorghe gheorghiu-dej?
|
none of those, though the Dracula connection is close to my bloody heart. Btw, Shell, I'm a nice normal guy not a perv.
clue: music |
salzburg?
|
...George Enescu born in Liveni?
|
none of those, though unc may know I was born very near Salzburg.
clue: my heritage is Hungarian |
salzburg was part of the HRE before it became austria...i was thinking of wolfgang amadeus...
no clue... |
...Franz Liszt? Doborjan?
` |
Quote:
The person who was born in the town I'm in is often considered one of the most significant Hungarian composers, along with Liszt. The connection to my name I mentioned before is that the name of this town is connected to my name in Hungarian. All that Hungarianism but as already nailed down by Tully, the town in in Romania. |
...Hadyn was born just over the border...in austria...so it can't be him...or does close to the border count?
|
"close but no cigar"
"close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades" ...though Karen Carpenter seems to disagree ...sorry Shell |
...Ferenc Erkel, composer of your National Anthem born in Gyula?
(awww...that youtube was bittersweet...such beautiful music from a beautiful lady who, sadly, didn't think she was at all attractive. That is a very unusual video clip in that she usually hid herself behind the drums when she sang) |
you are in Nagyszentmiklós, birthplace of hungarian composer Bela Bartok
|
OK squeeeb!!! you found me. Good job....though this seems too fun to be a "job". You're up next, go hide.
My name "Nicholas" is the anglicized conversion of the Hungarian "Miklós" since when I was in kindergarden the teacher asked if Miklós was Michael or Nicholas and I correctly told her Nicholas. The town where the great Hungarian composer Bela Bartok was born is Nagyszentmiklós which means Big St. Nicholas. Shell's earlier guess of a Dracula hit close to home since Bela Lugosi was a Hungarian actor famous for his portrayal of Count Dracula....it was funny as a kid watching his Dracula movies and hearing him talk Hungarian in the film. |
well, as I aspire to be a Romantic language expertise shifter who also speaks German & Japanese (what's that 11 languages? wow), I put forth the contention that you are masquerading the Balle as Nicolae Bretan, and therefore, you must be within the limits of his birthtown, Nasaud.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2203/...4112ce06c8.jpg Colibita Lake, Bistrita Nasaud, Romania Am I correct in my assertion and caught my whopper at last, or should I continue to go fish? |

...okay, BadNick, i saw that comment above...payback time...remember you promised me you'd watch one of my chick flicks?...haha...noooo, i would NEVER forget THAT...so...here it is...one of my favorite scenes from a favorite chick flick, "The Notebook"...so get your barfbag ready, pepto-bismol, whatever you need...but WATCH IT!...you MUST! (must i handcuff you?) (i should put this in the thread called "I want one"...i sure could use a kiss in the rain like this one...) ...WAIT!...i owe Tully a punishment too...although i don't think this is quite what he had in mind ;) ...DISCLAIMER: this has about a dozen little reboots in the beginning but they stop as soon as she starts feeding the swans so hang in there! It's worth it...well, i think so anyway...OH C'MON, YOU CAN DO THIS! :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::INTERMISSION ENTERTAINMENT:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: |

...would anyone like a glass of some fabulous wine (my fave) during Intermission until Squeeeb gets back? The name is Pouilly-Fuisse and is a White Burgundy from the Chardonnay grape. The Vineyard is Louis-Jadot in France....enjoy! |
wait, why can she doublepost and I cannot?
|
I promise I'll watch that flick, Shell, a little later today. I'm quite familiar with Pouilly-Fuisse, I've even had that specific one. I really like the subtle dry fruitiness a lot, and it doesn't have the "hit you over the head with an oak barrel" character of too many California chardonnays, though it seems they are finally drifting away from that trendy pattern.
Jetée, Shell may be too new to have seen the most aggregious and prolific double-posting this side of the O.K. Corral, when you were doing that a while back, I think it was in the "longest" thread. I still don't know how you did that. Good luck, Tully. OK, sqeeeb, come out of the woodwork! |
Quote:

...i'm still clueless about protocol here in many areas but may i ask...what exactly do you mean when you say you cannot doublepost? Do you mean it's not suppose to be technically possible? Or do you mean that the administration doesn't allow it? Or do you mean it's bad manners? Technically, i have no problem. If it's not allowed or if it's bad manners i'll not do it.
...i had another person comment to me "too much jargon, oust her"...my comment was only 3 lines long. I figured he was just being mean to me. But is it frowned upon here to comment as much as i am in this very post? ...be patient with my growing pains please...plus females are sensitive...well, so is uncle phil...he's always "cryin' me a river"...what a baby... :p (we luvya unc) |
