BadNick 04-08-2009 07:59 AM

Mac, I guessed "Italy" back in post 5193 and got a "no"...and I'll add that unc isn't on the Adriatic side of Italy since I also tried that above.

unc, are you in Monaco?

uncle phil 04-08-2009 08:46 AM

damn, you're good nick...

Monaco - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

BadNick 04-08-2009 10:28 AM

did I win?

...and I was just about to say: "unc, I know you said you're in Europe, but when you were a kid did you ever wish you would grow up and become a Somali pirate?" Talk about nonsense, are you guys hearing the latest pirate stories about their pirating of a U.S. flagged and manned vessel? and within the last couple hours the crew have partly retaken the vessel from the pirates though apparently the captain is still in the hands of the pirates? Where's Peter Pan when you need him?

In the Monaco visit, you may know that Grace Kelly was a famous, beloved Philadelphia native, and the whole Kelly family were like Philadelpha Icons...sort of like the cheesesteak of famous families. So when I hitchhiked home from high school every day I used to go through East Falls and pass right by the Kelly family mansion where Grace grew up...damn, she was a beautiful, graceful woman, but the old Prince beat me to her :( but on the plus side, one reason I took that route was so I would go by Dalessandro's Steaks and of course stop in to have at least one cheesesteak there back in the day when they undoubtedly had the best cheesesteak in Philly...though now there are sucking hint tit on that front.

So assuming I won this round, give me a few to find a new place.

BadNick 04-08-2009 07:33 PM

OK, find me.

ItWasMe 04-08-2009 07:43 PM

Beautiful pics of Niagara Falls, by the way, BadNick. I would love to visit with my camera someday.

BadNick 04-08-2009 07:47 PM

Naval Academy Chapel where John Paul Jones is interned?

uncle phil 04-11-2009 09:52 AM

shoot, tully, i think you've got it...

BadNick 04-11-2009 12:41 PM

you got it, Tul. I remember the first time I saw his marble and bronze sarcophagus and read about his historic significance to the U.S. I was somewhat overwhelmed and in awe. It reminded me of the majesty of Napolean's tomb in Paris.

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...Jonesgrave.jpg

John Paul Jones - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Sadly, while he died in France in 1792, his remains were not found and identified by respectful U.S. representatives until 1905!

In 1905, Jones' remains were identified by US Ambassador to France Gen. Horace Porter (Goodheart 2006) who had searched for six years to track down the body using faulty copies of Jones' burial record.

Tully Mars 04-11-2009 01:15 PM

Never been there, should go being Navy and all. Wonder if Gen. Porter found the right body?

Ok where am I?

uncle phil 04-11-2009 02:05 PM

I was reading about the great care they went through to make sure they could identify the body as John Paul Jones. So in fact, it is a highly reliable identfication.

China?

I have a connection to Reagan.

BadNick 04-13-2009 03:56 PM

I like to call him Ronnie RayGun ...but he gave that rousing speech and challenge at the Berlin Wall's Brandenburg Gate:

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...BerlinWall.jpg

"Tear down this wall!" was the famous challenge from United States President Ronald Reagan to Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to destroy the Berlin Wall.

In a speech at the Brandenburg Gate commemorating the 750th anniversary of Berlin, by the Berlin Wall on June 12, 1987, Reagan challenged Gorbachev, then the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, to tear it down as a symbol of Reagan's desire for increasing freedom in the Eastern Bloc.

How about thast stupid Bitburg visit he made?

Part way down in this reference Bitburg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia are some intersting points about this visit, such as:

This planned visit caused a great deal of anger outside of Germany. Many prominent government officials, U.S. Army officers, and celebrities, protested the planned visit. Concentration camp survivor and author Elie Wiesel spoke out on the topic at an unrelated White House ceremony, saying, "I... implore you to do something else, to find another way, another site. That place, Mr. President, is not your place." 53 senators (including 11 Republicans), signed a letter asking the president to cancel, and 257 representatives (including 84 Republicans) signed a letter urging Chancellor Kohl to withdraw the invitation. Former Army S/Sgt. Jim Hively mailed his World War II decorations, including a silver star and a bronze star, to Reagan in protest. The Ramones recorded the song "My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down (Bonzo Goes to Bitburg)," which alludes to Bedtime for Bonzo and Bonzo Goes to College, two movies from Reagan's film career that co-starred a chimpanzee, and Frank Zappa recorded "Reagan At Bitburg". Robyn Hitchcock's song The President from his album Element of Light also makes reference to the incident.

This struck me as a strange reference:
EJ388623 - The Controversy over President Reagan's Visit to Bitburg: Strategies of Definition and Redefinition.
Abstract: A brief narrative description of the journal article, document, or resource. Examines transformation and transcendence as rhetorical strategies of definition and redefinition, in the controversy surrounding President Reagan's plan to visit the German war cemetery at Bitburg. Contrasts Reagan's scientistic perspective with his opponents' dramatistic perspective, and explores their clash in three dimensions: time, space, and judgment.

Tully Mars 04-14-2009 05:41 AM

Yellowstone National Park?

BadNick 04-14-2009 07:32 AM

city boy by residence, country boy by heart

Tul, while I'm not there this time, I love Yellowstone...some of my fondest memories of personal adventures were when I was there for a week by myself, mid Spring before the tourists arrived and the place was just barely starting to wake up from Winter.

OK, where in the world am I? ...since we've been dancing in the WH, I am in fact in the WH.
