Just saw Der Untergang (or Downfall).
A very powerful, well made movie with excellent acting. I can't imagine why this movie has been criticized because it portrays Hitler as a human being not as a demonized monster. 9/10 |
Cube Zero ** (out of four)
A tired retread of the same ideas used up in the first two movies. We learn a bit more about why the cube exists, but it does nothing to enhance the story. The first one worked as an existential nightmare, a puzzle, and a single set exercise. None of that is true of this tired excuse to milk the franshise one last time. |
Hostage
Oh boy, was that crap. I got drunk to try and enjoy it a little bit, but I guess I sobered up at some point, because the train went right off the rails with about 45 minutes left. Up until that point it was just trite and uninteresting. |
Godfather part 3...it sucked, very boring..
|
"Be Cool"
Eh, it was ok. I mean, it seemed like they took everyone in Hollywood that wasn't doing anything good at the time and said "hey, y'all wanna do a stupid movie together?" I mean, Joe Perry acting? Granted, he only has about two lines, but he delivers them in the same monotone he did way, way back on SNL when he did Wayne's World. And Steven Tyler? I mean, GOD, can Aerosmith sell out any more? Anyway, enough with the hair bands... It was an OK movie. Some funny moments, some trite ones, but it was good. I must say, however, that the hilight was The Rock as a flaming gay bodyguard. He was mega fuckin funny, and actually acted pretty good to boot- he plays a bodyguard trying to "break into" acting- so he's supposed to come across as a two-bit actor. Pretty funny... no, make that REALLY FUNNY. But it's not worth the $5 matinee price. Wait for it to come out on DVD. |
Just rented "Big Fish". 8 out of 10. I enjoyed it very much. One of Tim Burton's best movies. Very imaginative and with the intense imagery, it fits right up his alley. Looking forward to his next film..."Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory". Should be very cool.
|
I saw "Hostage" this weekend, and I was very disappointed. There were many scenes in which the situations were not believable. The audience is expected to accept all without question. Not a good film.
|
Supersized
This was that film about the scientist/doctor who decided to eat McDonalds for a month straight. I guess it was fairly entertaining but was more or less just an attempt from some health gurus to shit on the fast food industry. If you enjoy your fast food from time to time, much like i do, dont bother to see this. |
The Jacket -- it started out slow and took me a while to figure out what was going on, but in the end, I liked it.
|
collateral - 10/10. awesome the first time i saw it, and i'm sure it's one of those movies that gets better with each viewing.
|
The Royal Tenenbaums (again). 9/10. A true classic. This movie just gets better and better each time I watch it. It's just such an amazing, well-balanced mix of dry, subtle comedy and melancholy.
Last movie I watched that I had never seen before: Sideways. 7/10. I thought the performances by the two leads were quite good, and the comedic moments were touching and original. The plot, while not really leaving anything to be desired, was still unsubstantial. The movie was good, but not amazing. |
The Ring 2 - 7.5/10
Just Came Out Just saw it. Donno, it just seemed to be missing something, cant describe it, just seems ehh. Not Bad, Id say if you liked the first one go see the second one, but if you have not seen the first DONT go see the second, youll be lost |
I saw the Ring 2 yesterday w/my wife and sister. We are all in complete agreement it sucked ass so bad the makers should be bitchslapped for even using the Ring name. It was really, really shitty.
Bad shitty. Predictable, going in random dumbass directions, no plot, it made no SENSE, etc. Just a big pile of horror shit using the Ring ingredients to try and have some sense of legitimacy. It was really bad. Complete and utter tripe. Also, they turned the lead chick into a complete and total fucking moron. Then we threw in a "the authorities think mommie's abusing the child even though it's really the ghost" subplot that was such a lame, desperate, attempt at tension, I was actually offended. Predictably, the only way to "save" her child was to do things that would appear as abuse. OMG I never saw that coming! Spoiler: The whole "she wants a mommy" bit as a reason for the whole movie seemed to have nothign to do with the Ring mythology at all. Just a simple excuse to HAVE a part 2. She doen't want to kill mommy either, just watch cartoons. Could we have ordered up a lamer idea? I think not. The movie really licked nuts. That first one was good. This was shit. Cheap horror shit. The main character even screemed and stood still in shock suprise at something the whole theater saw coming 5 mintues earlier. "OMG I somehow didn't see this coming! SO NOW I'll STAND HERE! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" Such utter trash. They even did some stupid bullshit bit where el kiddo suddenley has magic powers of prediction, and tells numb cunt not to stop. Guess what she does? TWICE! You'll become offended. But first you'll sit there annoyed. Wondering, why am I wasting 2 hours in here? |
Saw Million Dollar Baby. Loved it. Great writing, great directing, great acting. I really loved the writing--snappy, comic and dramatic without being maudlin. All in all, a fantastic movie. Highly recommended.
|
21 Grams
I recommend it, but you need to pay very close attention. It skips all over. Eventually, it all comes together. |
Ring 2 probably the worst movie i have ever seen. I predicted all of the scary parts(but still for some reason jumped). I left the movie thinking that i missed something. The ending was awful the entire movie was awful, its hard to create a climax and have it last for 2 straight hours. Normally after horror movies i leave scared and I left disapointed. My sister feel asleep during a movie. The 6.02E23 high school people there were not even scared. People were sitting on the floor and they were laughing at the movie. The movie was between Fear.com and GhostShip as being awful horror movies, it should be renamed to Crap 2 and that good director should get his name off the movie
|
Saw. I watched it a second time. 8.5/10 is my rating. Sick and twisted...could of been scarier though.
Now for the reason I'm posting... M. Night Shyamalan's "The Village" was f*cking LAME!!! I have been waiting anxiously to see this movie for over a year now...last night the reality hit as that movie ended that I spent 1 hour and 45 minutes of my life watching a LAME ASS stupid piece of CRAP that someone had the audacity to call a FILM!!!! .01/100 <--In the beginning of the movie, I was actually interested in the "what, why and how" of the movie...by the last 3rd of the movie, I knew I had joined the society of morons who saw it...difference between me and them? I'm WARNING EVERYONE that hasn't seen this movie -- RUN FAR AWAY from it. IT SUCKED. Again I rate it: .01/100 |
SE7EN: 7/10
good plot, average acting, good unity, but kinda boring for more than half the movie. The Butterfly Effect: 8/10 plot, while creative and fairly good, is riddled with holes. acting, i thought, was actually pretty good on ashton's part. the kid actors were a bit far-fetched, but whatever. very entertaining. |
Made the mistake of seeing The Ring 2 yesterday (thank god it was a matinee!) and it gets a -27/10.
Just like an earlier poster said, THE MOVIE JUST DIDN'T MAKE ANY DAMN SENSE! It didn't seem like there was a point to the movie, it just kind of wandered along without a goal in mind. There were a couple scenes I would call "cool" just because the CGI effects were incredible, but other than that it failed to be scary or intense. I absolutely hated the first movie anyway, but my girlfriend liked it and wanted to see the second one. |
Saw Ring 2 last night, i liked the first one but the second wasn't all that great. Not a lot of scary parts as in the first.
|
Saw Windstruck last night. Wasn't good as it could be but still good nonetheless.

Whispering Corridors *** (out of 4)
Set in a Korean girls' prep school, it begins with a strict middle aged teacher investigating some phenomenon that has apparently been repeating itself every few years at the school. She finds some evidence in some yearbooks, but kills herself, or apparently does, before she can reveal it. Meanwhile, two girls have become close friends. One believes she can call spirits, and is a talented painter, while the other is the school brain, and supports her friend even after the friend is kicked out of art class. A new teacher to the school, a former graduate herself in one of the mysterious years, befriends both students, and tries to act as their mentor. There is an old abandoned wing at the school that used to house the art classes. Some years before, a girl was imprisoned there by the others and committed suicide. It's rumored that her ghost now haunts the school, in particular the wing where she died, where workers continually meet with strange accidents. There's lots of creepy stuff going on, and the big revelation at the end is genuinely surprising, but it fails to maintain it's creepy tone consistently, and it takes a couple of viewings to clearly identify exactly what happens at the end. Still, for originality and the effective tone, it's worth a look. |
i saw Ray this weekend. it was a pretty good movie, although it was a bit too long. Jamie Foxx did an AWESOME job in it, and the costume designer was freaking incredible with the outfits. it almost looked like it was filmed back in the day. so, like i said, the length was a minus, and also there were a couple scenes that were WAY dramatic. the actors over-acted their part. i just rolled my eyes during these scenes because they were so bad. i'd give it 3 out of 5 stars. however, if i was able to find out how truthful the movie was, and if all the relationships in it were portrayed realistically, then i would probably give it 4 stars out of 5.
|
Sin City: 10/10
amazing style, wonderful use of black and white, gore out the ying yang, and awesome characters. |
The Ring Two....
I saw this film simply to see Simon. I hope this leads to larger roles for him. Though the film was not good, you have to agree that the cast was great. Elizabeth Perkins, Gary Cole and Sissy Spacek were brilliant choices for the roles that they portrayed. The scenes with Cole and Spacek made the film for me. Brilliant actors in bit parts. Classic. |
Sin City was amazing. This movie is cinema art.
|
Stephen King's "Misery" That movie is classically awesome 9/10
|
Sin City
It was so damn awesome I had to see it twice this weekend. I'll add it to my top ten favorites off all time. 10/10 |
Quote:
|
Lone Wolf and Cub Volume I: Sword of Vengeance - Great... violent.
Lone Wolf and Cub Volume II: Baby Cart at the River Styx - Greater... more violent. Lone Wolf and Cub Volume III: Baby Cart at the Crossroads of Hades - Great... most violent. Violent Cop - Ah Takeshi Kitano, will you ever stop being cool? The Treasure of Sierra Madre - John Huston at the top of his form, Bogart is incomparable. The Leopard - Luchino Visconti made the most Sicilian movie ever, with Burt Lancaster. Holy crap. |
"The Incredibles" 10/10
Best dvd I've bought in a good while. Great story (not your prototypical superhero story), nice humorous scenes, fantastic animation, lots of moments that made me go "Wow!".  I hope Disney doesn't fuck-up the sequel now that Pixar is out of the picture. |
Ladder 49 - i did not like it. its just a movie about what fire fighters do before and after fires.
super troopers - still wondering why i don't own this. |
I usually avoid going to see movies in the theater.
That being said.... Mystic River - Why oh why did I watch this. Pretty intense story that should have ended 15 minutes before it did. Sean Penn = over rated. If being the "greatest actor of his generation" simply requires grunting and looks of constipation then sign me up. The Incredibles - Fantastic movie. Fun to watch the entire way through. The DVD has a lot of extras including a fantastic little ditty called "Boundin" about a self-conscious sheep and a bouncing jackalope |
Quote:
Totally agree with you. This was a really pleasant surprise, as I hadn't seen it in theaters like everyone else in the world. The movie itself was fantastic and I could definitely see why it generated so much buzz as an Oscar contender, but the DVD's special features were among the best I've ever seen. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't include the actors in the behind-the-scenes featurettes, but it was great nonetheless. A definite 10/10. I also finally got around to watching The Girl Next Door. I was expecting just another typical "teen comedy" with its fair share of laughs, but again I was very pleasantly surprised. The movie had a sweetness about it that I don't typically see in most teen-oriented comedies. Also, all the principals in the movie gave very underrated performances and put together a film that I enjoyed very much in its own right and not just compared to other teensploitation films. And maybe it was just the fact that I was completely hypnotized by her, but I think Elisha Cuthbert did a wonderful job in her role despite being very underutilized despite having the film seemingly revolving around her. |
'The Life Aquatic'
A lot of fun, but spent too much time trying to be clever. Liked Bill Murray very much. 7/10 |
The Ring 2. Hated it. I never saw the first one, but if it's anything like the sequel, no thanks.
4/10 |
Sin City: 8.5/10 - Amusing violence, ok story, naked chicks, and Jessica Alba yum!
Sahara: 8/10 - Surprisingly good summer popcorn flick. Penelope Cruz is yum. |
hey, i just saw Sahara too!! and i think i agree with Jesus Pimp. i'm not really that into "popular" summer time big movies, so i really didn't have very high expectations for the movie. but i was pleasantly surprised. so i give it 4/5 stars.
i also saw Finding Neverland, which was a very good movie. also 4/5 stars. |
I just got back from Sahara. Being a huge fan of the author on which the story is based, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was two hours of entertainment. 3/5 stars.
|
sideways -- i enjoyed the heck out of it. i'm a cork dork so the movie was more interesting to me. the wines that were drank in the movie have me curious as to trying them out myself. not a bad flick 3.4324565/5
|
Just got back from Sin City. Damn. 6/5. Absolutely breathtaking film.
I guessed wrong about which scene Tarantino directed, though. Although that scene WAS brilliant. I have to go pick up the graphic novels now--I get the sense that the richness of the comic series' world was only really hinted at in the film. |
i saw sin city also -9/10
|
Sex and Lucia, el sexo y Lucia
A movie without much of a plot, coupled with hot sex. Turns out I can sit through anything if a beautiful girl is naked. 7/10, without the strip tease, 3/10 |
Kung Fu Hustle
10/10 It was so much more fun than I ever imagined it could be. Steven Chow is hilarious. The predictable parts of the plot worked very well within the larger context of the movie. |
Just watched Saved! last night, I'll give it a 7.5/10, I enjoyed it, lol. Funny movie to me, and I never thought that Mandy Moore could be such a bitch, lol.
|
9.5/10 Ocean's Twelve
For that type of movie it couldn't be better. It didn't radically alter my outlook on life and humanity but it was vastly entertaining and one of those rare movies worth watching several times. I highly recommend it. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0349903/ |
The Amityville Horror 8/10
Not a bad movie, spooked me a little in about 1 or 2 parts, other than that it was a good movie, I want to see the original film to see what its like. |
The last Samurai 9/10
well i didnt want to watch it first but when it was recommended by a lot of people i decided to watch it and it wasnt as "bad" as i thought ;) |
Blade Trinity - 2/10. God, this movie sucked. It was an honest waste of camera film and time. The only redeeming quality of this piece of trash film was Ryan Reynolds in the movie. I really liked his character, he was really funny. But overall, this movie was garbage.
|
Requiem for a Dream: 9/10
Absolutely loved requiem. the music was perfect, the acting was second to none, and the impact of the event in the movie was tremendous. Ichi the Killer: 3/10 Bored the entire time. the special effects had their high points, along with their low-points. the plot was too simple, but then got kinda convoluted at the end. the character of Ichi was not at all what i expected, and actually annoyed the shit out of me. i've read that it's one of the most disturbing movies ever, but i was not impressed. requiem disturbed me more than ichi, and had a great story accompanied by acting. A Clockwork Orange: N/A i was tired as hell so i ended up falling asleep about 40 minutes into it. i don't know if i can force myself to watch the rest, though. i was waiting for something entertaining or thought-provoking to occur during the first 40 minutes, but, alas, nothing. |
Suspect Zero: 2/10
This movie was boring. There were a couple of high points in it, but not high enough to name. I really like Ben Kingsley as an actor, which is why I rented this movie. He does a good job in it, but the overall picture sucks. |
Hidalgo: 8/10
exciting, classic Hollywood formula. |
Irréversible
9.5/10 Glengarry Glen Ross 9.5/10 eXistenZ 6.5/10 |
The Mask of Zorro
5/10 - they should have made it more romantic, more erotic, and less humorous. |
The Chronicles of Riddick was on HBO tonight...
I didn't see it in the theatre, as I don't go out to the movies too much... Overall I'd give it a 6/10. The only redeeming quality this movie had was the fact that it was pretty. The storyline was so-so and the dialogue....ughh. Not to mention, one of the most ridiculous endings ever filmed. I wonder how in the world they got Judi Dench to be in this movie....I'm guessing...blackmail. |
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy 9/10
The jaw-dropping scene of Earth Mark II being built deserves that rating alone. |
^ ditto here.
|
last week:
Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy 10/10 - awesomely funny movie this week: Kingdom of Heaven 9/10 - A few minor qualms, but otherwise a good period movie. |
National Treasure 9/10
Awesome movie. I've always been a fan of Indiana Jones kinda movie (Even though, this wasn't) The fact that there's puzzles and problems to solve all over the movies makes you stay interested to see where the puzzle would lead you to. |
The Ring 2
5/10 It's had the typical scary girl jumping out of the dark which was terrifying. I find the movie creepy, the whole evil child thing is weird. Some parts were total chichés, actually most were. A few parts were pretty good. And now that Samara is locked in the well I can sleep soundly. ;) |
I just got back from Kingdom of Heaven. I'd say 7/10. The filming was good, the acting was fairly good (even Orlando Bloom did a decent job) and the guy who played Saladin did a fantastic job, but it was a little slow and unbelievable in places and kind of made me disgusted even more than I already am at religious fanatics.
|
Saw House of Wax today... my cel phone went off (I know, I know, it never goes off, but today i forgot to turn it down). About twenty mintes into the movie, all you can hear is "Hell I like you, you can come over to my house and fuck my sister." From Full Metal Jecket. The thing looped twoce before I could find my phone and shut it off... it was funny. Anyway, back to the movie. I was kinda impressed. It had a good, in depth plot. That is a rarity for horror flicks. Plus, the way Paris Hilton gets killed is hilarious.
edit: forgot to rate it. about a 7/10 |
Kung fu Hustle - 8/10 - The action sequences are amazing; the plot was much more substantial than I had assumed, for being an action flick. Some of the scenes were so exaggerated, [which is what the director intended, IMO] it kept the film from having too serious of a tone, which I enjoyed.
|
The Cooler
7.5/10 |
The Interpreter - 7/10
Could've used more action and a better ending. The movie felt a bit drawn out at times. |
Finally saw Napoleon Dynamite 6/10 Maybe I need to see it twice to really get it...
|
Shawn of the Dead - 8.5 / 10
I just watched this movie on Friday night and it was exactly what I was expecting. A very funny zombie movie. It's not a spoof, it's just a zombie movie that turned out to be downright hilarious at times. It was exactly what I was in the mood to watch. Good flick indeed. |
sin city was fucking awesome!!! for some, it might be too weird but i loved the insane violence and the black and white with a bit of colour. i highly recommend it if you like comic books(graphic novels) or the style of QT. it's the same idea as pulpfiction... 3 or 4 little stories into one big one and they all make sense in the end.
ps: if you thought there was too much violence in kill bill, do not watch this!! i rate is 95% it's good enough that i will buy the DVD. |
Kicking and Screaming was a really funny Will Ferrell movie, especially for one that was given a PG rating. However, I'd assume that many of the jokes would go over the heads of most kids. There was probably enough going on with the team (especially the little Chinese kid) that would probably keep the kids happy. But it was basically all Will Ferrell, which was why I went for it. Excellent for a Will Ferrell movie, dunno how it would stack up as a kid's movie.
|
Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monster All-Out Attack (2001) - it's been YEARS since i saw a godzilla movie (wouldn't say that i'm a godzilla expert, or even a big fan), but this was playing at a local theater as a midnight movie and with a name like "Giant Monster All-Out Attack", how could i resist? plus, i got to reading some reviews around, and this was getting decent ones. and for good reason, too. this movie was a lot of fun and it makes me think that i should check out more godzilla movies. i'd give it a solid 7/10.
|
Sin City
i loved how the director gave it a cartoon comic book feel, he pulls it off flawless. great action and story line. 9/10 |
The last movie I watched would be A Beautiful Mind.
Absolutely phenomenal movie, I cry at the end every single damn time. Russel Crowe at his best (with Gladiator coming up a close 2nd) 5/5 without a doubt. |
Saw "Kingdom of Heaven" this weekend. It was a long, long, slow movie - nicely filmed. Orlando was fun to look at and acted welll enough, but he still has a long long way to go to be a "Leading Man". Way too much fighting, although the use of so many medieval weapons was a bit interesting. Hardly saw Liam Neesom - who really is a Leading Man!! This film lacked the spark ( any spark) needed to impress the audience. It's a 2 & 1/2 hour History Lesson that shows how futile religious wars really are. The director/writer made the Muslims seem way more fun & charismatic than the stodgy boring crusaders, which felt a bit too PC for me. Not that Muslims can't be a whole helluva a LOT good time party guys :) - Wish I had saved my $8.75 dollars....and rented Gladiator and some other films instead!
|
THe LIfe Aquatic with Steve Zissua: abusolutely brilliant. A wonderfully quirky comedy from Wes Anderson. Love the way the melds real life with abstractionism. Funny and intelligent. Thought William Dofoes' part is small, he steals the show. 9/10.
|
Dogville, 6/10
Not what i was expecting. A one-of-a-kind movie experience. A beautiful stranger (Nicole Kidman) enters the small, close-knit rural town of Dogville under mysterious circumstances. No one knows for sure why she's there or where she comes from. The movie focuses on the relationships that develop between Kidman and the various citizens of Dogville. Quite a movie...somewhat controversial for my taste at the moment. |
The Downfall: Hitler and the End of the Third Reich 9/10
Very well made, very believable, and at the same time chilling and frightening. So much casual violence, people shooting themselves in the head... Seeing Hitler flip between kind old uncle and raving loonie was scary too. |
Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith 10/10
1 word: Great |
Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith
9/10 Brings a whole new meaning to the OT. |
The Manchurian Candidate (1962)
9/10 Very suspenseful. Great political thriller. I wouldn't have thought Angela Lansbury could be so evil. |
"The upside of anger' - 7/10. Very funny movie; but still a chick flick. VERY funny!
|
I finally saw Troy.
This movie sucked. The battle scenes were terrific and very well done, but the great big lulls in between where all the "acting" was supposed to go came up waaaaay short. The writing was terrible, the acting was terrible (other than Peter O'Toole and Brian Cox) and for some reason everyone was sporting a horrible British inflected accent. They took a wonderful story with all the makings of a great movie and made this garbage out of it. Not to mention the obvious bastardizing of the story to suit the purposes of the dumbed down audience. (Troy didn't fall in a few days, Agemmemnon (I just know I spelled that wrong) didn't die in Troy at the hands of some made up love interest of Achilles) It was littered with talk of Gods, but no Gods to be seen, which I feel might have made the movie a bit more interesting. Not to mention the music. Oh my god, the music. It's either balls to the wall fanfare; trumpets blaring to evoke the majesty of the city. Or some Middle Eastern/Celtic (an odd combination to be sure) woman wailing. But the fight scenes were terrific, but you definately have to suspend logic. I mean, the entire army stops fighting to watch two men go at it and when one falls, they part ways because "that's enough for today?" They watch Achilles kill Hector, but no one fires an arrow or charges out to slay Achilles. Instead they let him drag their hero off? Are you kidding? 2/10. Never watch this movie. Unless you're a Brad Pitt fan as he shows quite a bit of skin. No, I take that back. Never watch this movie. Ever. |
I just saw Gothika. I know it's been out for a while, but it was my wife's pick. And let me tell you, it was awful. The director, whoever he was, was a Tim Burton wannabe, with all the dark immagery. The script was ridiculous and far too fairytale-ish to be believable.
I give it a 2/10 Now, let's talk about Halle Berry. We all know she is a babe. Gorgeous features etc. But she picks some attrocious films...two examples being this one and Catwoman. You could even include Swordfish and James Bond. I liked her in Monster's Ball, or at least I think I did. I liked seeing her naked from about 30 different angles. I forget how she acted. So what do you think? Is she a good actor? Is she just a pretty face? |
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of The Sith - 7.5/10
Moscow on The Hudson - 7/10 |
The last movie I watched was Cowboy Bebop: The Movie. I've seen it many times before (I own it on DVD), but a few days ago I just felt like watching it.
The story-line is interesting (the crew of the Bebop try to hunt down a wanted terrorist who is trying to destroy all life on Mars, and as a result has a huge bounty on his head); there are two of the better fight scenes (Spike vs Electra, Spike vs Vincent) that I've seen in movies, animated or otherwise; and the characters are just so damned cool. If you like the series, you would like the movie because it's basically like watching a movie-length episode of the show. The only thing I didn't like was that the usual freestyle jazz intro music - a song called "Tank" - was replaced by some other song. The new song wasn't bad. It just wasn't "Tank". I give it 5/5. |
there's a whole thread on how folks felt about the movie, and i chimed in there a few times, so i'll just give a rating here.
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith - 7.5/10 |
Closer - Jude Law, Natalie Portman, Clive Owen, Julia Roberts.
Not a bad picture. I liked hearing Julia Roberts talk about getting fucked and swallowing cum. I liked seeing Natalie Portman in almost nothing. I think I liked Clive Owen's acting, but I'm not sure yet. I am convinced that Jude Law is gaining more and more disrespect as an actor in my eyes. As I was watching Law in the silly crying scene in the doctors office, I couldn't help but be reminded of Joseph Fiennes, an actor that I loathe, because he is so very obviously bad as an actor, and he cries in almost every movie. Law played the pussy, and I couldn't feel sorry for him. I didn't. Some will argue that we weren't supposed to feel sorry for him, but I disagree. I believe it was the writers and the directors intent that we feel bad for Law's character, but I find it nearly impossible, most probably because of Jude Law. I liked parts of this movie, but not the whole thing. As such I give it a 6/10 |
I saw "Urban Legend" last night. I thought this was a very scary movie. There were plenty of times when I jumped off the couch, even my husband jumped a few times. I thought it odd that Robert Englund (the actor who plays Freddy Kruger) was in it, and I don't recall seeing his name in the beginning of the film. By the end of the movie, my husband had guessed who the killer was, but he always does.
I'd give it a 7/10. |
I just finished watching Ray with Jaime Foxx.
Absolutely fantastic movie. I knew a bit about Ray Charles before, so, I wasn't surprised at the story, but the acting was damn good. Foxx did a fantastic job. I swear some scenes I could close my eyes and hear Ray. I just wish they had did a bit more on his later life as well. Fantastic movie 9/10. |
house of wax: 3/10 (elisha cuthbert earned the movie those 3 points)
|
Saw Crash yesterday. I posted in the Crash thread...but for anyone who missed that...go see this film. It is awesome: great acting, great story, very intense. 5/5
|
Crash is a great movie. It will make you think. Those are two things I rarely say about a film.
It is about America. It is about the human condition. It's a movie about race relations. America needs this movie. |
Kingdom of Heaven - 7.5/10
Orlando Bloom plays Ballion (sp?), a French blacksmith whose world is turned upside down. He ends up in Jerusalem, leading the Christian army in a defense of the city against the Muslims, who are bent on regaining the Holy Land that was stolen from them. I liked Bloom a lot in this movie. His steady demeanor and understated acting were perfect for the role. Jeremy Irons was great in his supporting role as Tiberius, and Eva Green did well as the Queen of Jerusalem. Ridley Scott delivers a film that is visually very similar to "Gladiator," which I also enjoyed. The stakes are certainly higher in this film, with the tension between Muslims and Christians just as high 1000 years ago as it is now. |
Madagascar
Good movie, but not a Shrek. The kids will love it no doubt, and the older crowd as well. I'm not a Chris Rock fan, but he fit well with the role of the animated zebra. My beef ... not enough of the penguins. 7.8 / 10 |

Finding Neverland
Great film, Johnny Depp is superb as usual. 9.5/10 |
This past weekend, I saw 3 movies, 2 for the first time and 1 that I hadn't seen in awhile.
Saturday night I watched "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?". It still amazes me that this film was ever made, what with the cartoon characters from Disney and Warner Bros being in the same film. I'm not sure a movie of this type could be made today. It's a great film and I really like Los Angeles of the 1940's. 10/10. Sunday afternoon was "Madagascar". Very enjoyable film, lots of lines for the adults as well as silly visuals for the kids. Not as good as some other animated offerings but very solid. Could have used more monkeys and penguins. 7.5-8/10. Sunday evening was "National Treasure". Good Disney story with a nice blending of real history with movie storyline. This being a Disney film at least partially aimed at the younger audience, the bad guys never hit anybody when they shoot at the good guys. The movie has a nice pace with the good guys and bad guys getting what they deserve. 8/10. |
life aquatic with steve zissou -- crappy, i didn't like all the underwater images that really looked fake, even if that's what they wanted. i won't watch it again.

Mystic River
Saw it for the first time this morning..[borrowed it from library]
Wow. I was thoroughly impressed with it. The plotline was smooth and never veered off track much, and the beginning drew me and wanted me to watch the rest. Sean Penn's performance was a plus. 9/10 |
I went and saw "Mindhunters" in the cheap theater. It is about FBI profilers on an island as their last assignment before gradutation. They keep dying, one by one. I would give it a 2.5/5 stars. Good enough to watch but not good enough to watch again or to buy.

Cinderella Man - the real life story of depression-era heavyweight champ Jim Braddock. He was Rocky before Rocky, y'know? Russell Crowe, Rene Zellwegger, Ron Howard directs.
