Hubby and I just saw Match Point. It was highly disturbing to both of us; I guess it Spoiler: the fact that the main character could just kill his lover like that. Anyway, the acting was pretty good... the story dragged a bit in the beginning...and I was ready for it to be over 15 minutes before it was. I'd say 3/5.

Locke7 04-23-2006 06:53 PM

Just watched Harry Potter: The goblet of fire.

5/10

It was OK, just another Harry adventure. Sure set up the next one though.

I totally agree except I didn't have a problem with the kid, I don't have a Hubby, and 5/5. Great Movie

The Assassination of Richard Nixon

Really, surprisingly amazing.
4.5/5

Lucky Number Slevin

I downloaded and watched it yesterday. I loved it. The way that the story was told seem like a Shyamalan and Tarantino film rolled into one. Great job by all the actors in the film.

9/10

blahblah454 04-24-2006 09:32 PM

Fun with Dick and Jane

2/10

I thought this movie was a total piece of shit. It had about 5 minuits of total funny in it, the rest I just wanted to fall asleep.

Hubby really wanted to see this, but after I read the bad reviews I didn't want to. I'll make sure I don't rent it.

Locke7 04-28-2006 10:20 AM

The beach 4/10

The visuals were nice, but about the time the movie turned in to a video game, I asked myself what in the world is going on.

blahblah454 04-30-2006 03:22 PM

Good call Medusa, it had almost no redeaming points to it at all.

Howard the Duck!
9/10

One of the greatest flops ever made! This was a childhood favorite of mine when I owned it on Beta, I just got myself a copy on DVD (bootleg :() from Ebay and I love it just as much now as I did as a kid!

I like the cloneing SciFi aspect to it ... but the ending of the movie was what killed it for me - predictable and pretty uneventful.

platoon
8/10
realistic? war movie...rated 140 on the imdb list

mandy 05-03-2006 08:32 AM

Mindhunters with LL Cool J and Christian Slater.dont really know much of the other actors.

definately a 10/10. totally and completely makes you want to be right ther in the middle of all that psycological thrilleryness:) it makes you think and has a twist at the very end that you would not believe.
EXCELLENT!

the movie i saw before that was called Waiting. it was about a day in the life of waiters and waitresses and all the bullshit they have to go through.

being a waiter myself, i could totally relate to everything they did and said and even found myself singing along to the birthday song they sang. most of it was all bullshit though like spitting in difficult customers food and playing stupid games.

a fun movie to watch. i'd rate it a 8/10.

Grasshopper Green 05-06-2006 07:29 AM

Ok, not really a movie but....I just re-watched Band of Brothers. I can't express how much I like this miniseries. After watching it, I know exactly why these men were called the Great Generation. 5/5

Willravel 05-06-2006 07:43 AM

Thank You for Smoking 8/10
-Very funny, relevent, interesting, great acting, great directing, and an excelent performance from William H. Macy. Whether or not you smoke, this movie is worth your time, IMHO.

The Sentinal 4/10
-In an attempt to creat a 24 movie these people remade every boring government movie I've ever seen. Keifer Southerland and Michael Douglas couldn't save this script. And thanks to Kim Basinger for supporting my believe that she can't act for beans.

Silent Hill, 2/10
-Not scary, not interesating, derivitive, boring, transparent. The only thing the movie had going for it was having Sean Bean cast, and they underuntilized him in a major way. I'm dissapointed.

MI3, 3/10
-MI2 was WAY better. Was John Woo busy or something? Oversold Tom Cruise, and underutilized Maggie Q, Ving Rhames, and Laurence Fishburne...

Kadath 05-06-2006 08:39 PM

Run Lola Run 7/10
Finally got around to watching this. Even at only 80 minutes, it dragged a bit in the middle, but the ending was very strong. Enjoyable.

fresnelly 05-07-2006 06:38 AM

The Transporter 2

7/10

I was in the mood for something escapist and this completely fit the bill. Jason Statham has a strong enough presence to ground the over the top action, and the fight scenes were pretty creative and entertaining. Think Jackie Chan without the mugging.

I counted 3 stunts that were completely ludicrous, but the rest of the film was exciting enough that I could overlook them.

Grasshopper Green 05-07-2006 04:12 PM

We saw Mission Impossible 3 last night. The first half was boring and the second half was beyond silly. I liked the first two, but the ludicrousness (if that's even a word) of this movie just bugged me the entire time, even though that's what MI is supposed to be about. Plus, I really can't stand Tom Cruise's acting, which may have biased me against the movie. Complete waste of money and time....1/5.

Mantus 05-09-2006 01:33 PM

Scary Movie 4.

Should I even bother saying anything? The first 10 mintues had me laughing my pants off. The remaining 80 minutes forced me to keep them off just so I can entertain myself - and you thought it was spilled pop didn't you? Thankfully it was mercifully short. Come to think of it, it's a bit superfluous to add humor to the horror genre. Ah well, I didn't need those $11 anyways.

fresnelly 05-09-2006 06:58 PM

Match Point, written and directed by Woody Allen.

Boooo-ring. It's playing right now, but I'm ignoring it except for the sex scenes. How odd for a movie with a forgone conclusion of a plot that's stocked with one-note characters, to start with a quote about luck and the unpredictablity of life.

1 star for the London scenery, snippets of opera, and Scarlett Johannsen looking fetching.

Just to be clear, there's no actual nudity.

blahblah454 05-11-2006 03:20 AM

The Princess Bride
8.5/10

Great movie, the little kid from the wonder years is a little irritating but overall this is an excellent movie. I watched it with a friend and her four year old son and the boy just loved it. He was laughing his head off during the fight scene between Westley and Fezzik (Andre the Giant). I recommend this movie to everyone, any age at all.

blahblah454 05-11-2006 07:12 PM

I watch lots of movies now that I can't do anything else.

Reservoir Dogs
5/10
I just didn't really care for it, I found it to be pretty boring and draggy.

True Romance.
8/10
Now this was an enjoyable movie, I really liked it. This is the way romance movies should be! If a little predictable at times I still really liked it.

abbaker987 05-12-2006 12:22 AM

The Weather Man - 8/10

I was real surprised on how much I liked this movie. I didn't expect laugh as much as I did.

imouseone 05-12-2006 12:48 PM

Mission Impossible 3 - 9/10 as an action movie, and Maggie Q is hot :)

VirFighter 05-13-2006 01:15 PM

I saw Art School Confidential last night and absolutely loved it. One of the darker comedies I've ever see but still hilarius in its own right. I highly recommend it!

blahblah454 05-14-2006 04:27 PM

Grandma's Boy
2/10

This movie was terrible, I didn't even want to watch it in the first place but the lady did so I sat through it. Total crap, it was just a bunch of random events strung together. They wernt even funny events. Avoid at all costs.

fresnelly 05-14-2006 06:11 PM

Brick

I don't want to spoil this movie at all. If you're a fan of Film Noir, and love a good mystery, I highly recommend Brick. Seek out the trailer and give it chance.

noodle 05-14-2006 06:27 PM

Shinobi Fantastic, loved the special effects. Martial arts, star-crossed lovers, blood and guts. Old story, new take. 8/10.

One Last Thing... Pretty surprising. Great depiction of how we throw stuff at kids with cancer and all they really want is some time and to still be a teenager. It caught me a little close to home since the actor looked almost identical to one of my kids from work, so I started bawling. But I loved the humor. The red-haired chick from Sex in the City was awesome. 7/10.

Revolver Yeah, again. I still catch new things every time I see this film. I love Jason Statham... even with the greasy look. And Ray Liotta is creepy as ever. Such a twisted plot! 9/10

Chaos Not released yet most places. Based on the Chaos Theory. I can't stand Ryan Phillipe, but the plot was pleasantly twisted and the action kept my attention. Wesley Snipes is a dork and his clothes were annoying, but Jason Statham (I have a fetish, :suave: ) is surprisingly intelligent and fantastically devious in this role. 8/10.

kentucky_lady 05-14-2006 10:02 PM

[B]ok, i know im way behind on my movie viewing, but i loved serendipity, it was awesome.

Final Destination 3

Pretty satisfying if you hate whiny teens...

Which I do...

Watch out for that nailgun kids...

fresnelly 05-16-2006 06:21 PM

Mission Impossible III

I liked it. There I said it.

The entire team gets a lot more screen time in this one. The stunts are fairly believable, with just the right amount of go-go-gadget ingenuity, and the plot doesn't revolve around saving the world for a change. Phillip Seymore Hoffman was full of swagger and balls, and made a fine villain. I liked that he was driven but in no way cartoonish.

Two thumbs up.

Evileyez 05-19-2006 08:02 PM

Its awesome....sizzling with sex and deceit
a must see!!!!!

The DaVinci Code - 6.5 out of 10

It wasn't nearly as bad as all the critics said, but it wasn't outstanding either. Probably would have been rated higher had I not known everything that was going to happen.

Man, this movie could have been written about a friend of mine. Very funny if you like weird humor.

heywatsup 05-28-2006 10:13 PM

date movie - although i wouldnt say i watched it all, i turned it off half way through, it was terrible, one of the worst..

1/2 a star ! if that

shesus 06-02-2006 02:16 PM

11:14 Interesting concept, not well delivered. While coincidences are interesting, this movie made them too contrived. I wouldn't recommend it because there are much better movies out there with the same premise. One example is 13 Conversations About One Thing. 2/10

Motorcycle Diaries I loved this movie. I didn't think I would..I mean traveling around South America on a motorcycle..not really my type of movie. But it was great to see the transformation of the characters while they met different people and saw different events. It also had funny parts which I enjoyed. Plus, it's a true story. 9/10

Jinn 06-02-2006 02:21 PM

Les Miserables --

I honestly thought this would be a horrible chick flick, but it turned out to be a pretty good movie. I think I generally like the surprising hero who comes through motif, tho. :)

9.5/10

Gatorade Frost 06-03-2006 06:15 AM

Last two movies I watched yesterday -

Clear and Present Danger - 4/10 - Pretty miserable casting if you ask me
The Rundown - 7/10 - Hilarious at some times, otherwise the ending kind of ruined the movie for me. Everything except for the final scene, at least.

stevie667 06-09-2006 02:54 AM

I'll sleep when i'm dead - 7/10

Good film, if a little confusing because it doesn't really answer many questions. Definatly very dark, i would have loved to have seen an 18 version, it would have been so brutal.

Mr. Spacemonkey 06-09-2006 06:16 PM

A movie called Spanking the Monkey was on the other day.

Quote:

Susan Aibelli (Alberta Watson), a married, lonely woman, suffers a leg injury at home just as her husband is about to leave on his job as a travelling salesperson and her son, Tom (Jeremy Davies), is about to leave for the summer on a medical internship. Her son is forced to stay at home to take care of her as his father is gone. He loses the internship and also his girlfriend. These troublesome events leave him emotionally confused as he and his mother are left alone together and they develop an apparent incestuous relationship.
Yes, how could it not be hilarious?

Grancey 06-09-2006 09:39 PM

I saw Cars tonight. This movie was great. 10/10
If you see it, make sure you stay for all the credits.

Derwood 06-12-2006 07:35 AM

Cars - 7/10

I've seen every Pixar release except The Incredibles, and I think Cars, while visually stunning, is the worst of them. There just isn't that much at stake. We are told pretty early that Lightning's quest for the Piston Cup is a rather shallow goal, so then what? This isn't a "father searches the ocean for his son" or "ants bond together to thwart the evil grasshoppers" type of story. Plus they really dropped the ball in underusing the talents of George Carlin, Cheech Marin, etc.

Ample 06-13-2006 04:51 AM

I saw Cars over the weekend and rather liked it. I would even go to say best kiddie movie since Corpes Bride, and I think I have seen just about every major animated film of the last five years. Yes, predictable but what kiddie movie isnt? Shallow goal, maybe, but all these movie's plots are kept simple. I had laughed plenty of times, and I do agree that cheech and Carlin were under used.

My point is that there was no clear cut villain and no real objective. Yes, one of the other race cars (Thunder) is a jerk and might get the sponsorship instead of Lightning, but he's 1000 miles away most of the movie. I still thought the movie was good, but compared to Monsters, Inc., Toy Story or Finding Nemo, the story just doesn't hold up

radioguy 06-13-2006 03:39 PM

i saw the omen on 6/6/6 and actually enjoyed it. i hadn't seen the original, so i have nothing to compare it too, but the movie kept me interested throughout.

cookmo 06-13-2006 06:49 PM

I saw both, Cars 7/10 and Over The Hedge 9/10

Cars was visually stunning, as someone else said but very thin. Also, for a kids movie it was really long. I remember thinking jeez, whens this shit gonna end....not a good sign!

Over The Hedge I absolutely friggen loved!! It was funny, had smart jokes, and just long enough that you didn't feel cheated.

ColonelSpecial 06-14-2006 11:58 AM

I watched "Kingdom of Heaven". It was a visually stunning movie but was about 45 minutes too long (it comes out to be 2 hours 24 minutes.) I would give it a 7/10.

Before that, I saw "The DaVinci Code". The only good thing was that the theater we were in was air conditioned! 5/10.

nmm 06-15-2006 05:24 AM

Poseidon... Would give it only 6/10 tho... Was not really good... Few good fx, but story and actors were far from being impressive...

Grancey 06-15-2006 10:57 AM

I saw The DaVinci Code yesterday. I haven't read the book, so I went in with no altered expectations. And I liked it. I really liked it. Unfortunately, this film will never be evaluated as just a film. I give it an 8.

shortynickel 06-16-2006 11:36 PM

I saw Cars and X-Men 3 at the Drive-In, sadly I wasnt able to watch all the credits cause we had to switch cars so we could watch X-Men, actually missed what was actually said in the first minute or two. I would rate them both 4/5.

Lady Sage 06-18-2006 04:15 AM

6/17 The Break-Up

I am usually fairly kind to movies... but this one... 4 out of 10. They did interesting things to eachother but overall it just lacked substance. The moral was learned and I adored the ending... it goes to show that... well i cant do that white spoiler thingy so lets just say youre in for a suprise.

If you wanna see it see a matinee or wait for it to hit the dollar movie.... dont waste your 7-11 bucks to see it full price.

stevie667 06-18-2006 04:26 AM

Fast and the furious: Tokyo drift

6/10

A pretty good film, some bits that kinda made you wonder what was going on, but some excellent car scenes. Much better than the second (not that its hard), but still not as good as the first.

Just one major niggle though:

Spoiler: THEY WERE NOT 17 FFS!

keyshawn 06-18-2006 06:49 AM

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

It was the first time I've ever seen it and was a good, mindless western.
The 'western' genre doesn't interest me, but I'm glad I gave it a shot (pun intended)

7/10

Next up: 12 angry men, my dinner with andre, and blade runner (never seen any of them yet).

mrklixx 06-18-2006 07:39 AM

Darkness (2002)

0 out of 10

One of the worst "horror" movies I've seen. No redeeming qualities. Horrible acting. uninteresting, annoying characters. Convoluded plot. Avoid this one.

biznatch 06-18-2006 07:53 AM

I saw Apolcalypse Now again last night, and I loved it. again.

Nacho Libre:

Holy crap was this funny ! I feel this was some of Jack Black's best work. It was laugh-out-loud funny for the first half of the film, then it sort of died out around the mid-point, and picked back up toward the end. Normally I would have been annoyed by the waning of the comedy, but it really was necessary so they could fit some plot into the movie ;)

Don't go to see this movie if you plan to scrutinize it. It is dumb fun for those who just want to laugh. If you don't like Jack Black's work as Tenacious D, but really loved School of Rock, I would have to say you might not like this movie as much as you hoped. It is more fans of Jack Black as the crazy Tenacious D singer who can bring the most random thing into a situation to make it downright wacky.

I would give it an 8.5-10 only due to the sloping off of the comedy around the halfway point, even though it was justified.

noodle 06-18-2006 11:59 AM

Ultraviolet Unrated... horrible. Special effects were awful, plot was stupid and predictable. And I'm fairly tolerant. 2/10.

Attack the Gas Station... disappointing. I knew it was pop-culture based when I got it, but it wasn't all that great. Wonderfully over-acted, though, and that was partially the point. The movie just kind of wandered around, though. 6/10.

Everything is Illuminated... loved it. Even though Elijah Wood has eerily perfect skin and hair in this one, he was perfect for the role. I loved that half of the dialogue was in Ukranian/Russian (never did figure out which) and there were no subtitles, it was perfect and you could understand what was going on. I typically do not enjoy movies based on the Holocaust, but this one was so quirky that I couldn't help but love it. "The girls want to get carnal with me because I am a premium dancer... like Michael Jackson." The rest of the cast I'd never seen before, but they were amazing. 9.5/10... for the slip up in the last scene on the train with Wood... he had four zits that weren't present in the rest of the movie. Blew the continuity of the ending for me because it clearly wasn't filmed at the same time.

Grasshopper Green 06-18-2006 02:36 PM

I saw two recently.

The New World
Complete snoozefest. If this film could be bottled and sold as a sleeping pill, the producers would make a fortune. The only redeeming thing about this film is the cinematography...it is pretty to look at. 1/5

The Family Stone
I liked it. I don't typically like a lot of chick flicks, but this one was good..it was funny, not too dramatic, a little sad, but with a happy ending nonetheless. A worthwhile Sunday afternoon movie. 3/5

Kadath 06-18-2006 04:28 PM

The Godfather Part II 10/10

Finally watched it for the first time. Stunning. Spoiler: When Kay reveals to Michael that she aborted their son, that's got to be one of the most shocking moments in movie history.

Nacho Libre:

I'm sorry but I have to counter "3z3's" review .This was by far/ hands down / without question, the absolute worst movie in the history of movies (in my opinion). This movie has nothing to offer.
There were people of all ages, lots of children, (obviously the target audience),and no one in the theatre laugh'd more than a couple of times. I'm talking about a hundred people plus!

My eight year old stepson, who loves anything "wrestling", almost fell asleep!

I can usually find something positive to say about even the crappiest of movies, but not this one ... nothing. I was stunned, "mouth-gapping-shocked-speechless", that Hollywood somehow got this piece of crap produced, let alone released to the public !?!?

Sorry "3Z3VH", but i would have to tell people to save their money and stay home, or go see "Cars", and let me know how that movie is ...

Pip 06-19-2006 04:29 AM

Brokeback Mountain - am I the last person on the planet to watch it? Anyways, it was a very pretty movie so it gets 7/10.

Tristram Shandy - I haven't read the book (yet!) but from what I know of it, this is an awesome adaption. Very post-modern. Funny to boot as well, the conversation about tooth colour is going to be a classic. 10/10

heywatsup 06-19-2006 03:18 PM

x-men3 - i thought it was _ok_ i guess i was most dissapointed that Spoiler: cyclops and jean died, and that rogue lost her powers, i loved the start with the sentinals. didnt think vinnie jones was the best person to play juggernaut though.

not a bad movie - 7/10

sgn43 06-19-2006 03:33 PM

I can't remember what possessed me into wasting my money, but I ended up seeing Nacho Libre the other night. I'm not sure what I was thinking, because I knew full well that it would be a bad movie and nothing proved my prediction wrong. However, it was good for a cheap laugh or three. Jack Black is only good in moderation, but he had some pretty stupidly funny moments in this film. For that, I give it a 5.5 to maybe a 6. But, there's no way I'm seeing it again.

SAM821 06-19-2006 09:24 PM

The and the Furious Tokyo Drift...

Wow, it sucked! for me to rate a movie bad is saying something because I LOVE movies... On a 1 to 10 scale (only because of my bias) I will give it a 3.5. It started off pretty decent, and it seemed to build some of the characters in the movie, but then all of a sudden, I felt like the movie rushed to finish up... the racing scenes were very unimpressive, and I was not the least bit excited. They did not get too in depth with showing off cars, like the other predecesors did. If you dont like this movie within the first 20 minutes, you will most likely walk out of the movie theatre.

This movie embarrasses the name of the first two in the lineage (The Fast and the Furious and 2 Fast 2 Furious)

On a side note, the japanese girls in this movie are pretty damn fine!

Nikilidstrom 06-20-2006 07:32 AM

I think Jack Black is hilarious, I love Tenacious D and movies like School of Rock, Shallow Hal, and Orange County. So I was surprised when I saw Nacho Libre and didnt care for it. From the concept of the movie, it sounded like it was perfect for Black, but everyone involved fizzled in their roles, when they should have been completely over the top. All in all, I'd give it a 3 out of 10, and that might be generous.

The Lake House 2/10, only because something has to be saved for a 1.
I was looking forward to this: A reunion with Sandra and Keanu. Certainly, I thought, a lot would have been put into making this film a good one. I was hoping this would be a decent summer chick flick. I was wrong. My husband, who will go to any movie I want to see, liked it more than I did. The most redeeming feature was the Paul McCartney song featured in the film and credits, This Never Happened Before. And I had to inform him that it was a Paul McCartney song. Now, that is funny.......

Locke7 06-22-2006 06:38 AM

Tristan and Isolde 7/10
A decent tragedy. Acting was pretty good, and I'm a sucker for a good sword fight.

THE LAKE HOUSE

The Lake House
My girlfriend and i both liked it.
I knew it was a "chick flick" before i went but, i'm a movie whore so i will go see anything.
It had no explosions and no car chases so we both figured it was going to get shit on pretty hard by critics.
But if you just want an entertaining movie, no frills, then this ain't a bad choice.
It was actually kind of refreshing.....8 out of 10.....

Everything was predictable, or already seen in the preview... I knew that when she'd turn that mirror, the devil (or some demonic creature) would suddenly appear...
and the ending.. dear god, they couldn't have chosen a cheesier ending.
I hate it, hate it, hate it. (Thank god my mother in law paid for the ticket)

V for Vendetta

Awesome film. A small amount of action for an action flick, since you'll fine so much more. A some politics and a huge conspiracy that allows you to see modern day England turn into the film's facist state of operesion. And we have V, the masked hero/terrorest (depends on which side your on), played by Hugo Weaving, at his most articulent. And the action scenes are great. There are time when you feel like you just no there gonna do some kind of Matrix-esque bullet dodging stuff, yet it goes in a completely different direction.

Oh yeah, and Natilie Portman has curly hair in this movie (for a while).

9/10

I liked it. I really liked it, and I didn't expect to. And I'm not an Adam Sandler fan at all. Kudos to Henry Winkler and Julie Kavner.
Christopher Walken was fabulous.

Closer 9 / 10

Out in 2004, I saw this yesterday on HBO. Very good movie, not at all a "chick flick" as some might think.

Jude Law and Clive Owen are stellar british actors who star alongside Julia Roberts and *gasp!* Natalie Portman. Portman is hotter in this movie than I think I've ever seen her. Stunning.

The range of emotions displayed in this story are absolutely great. A must-see. It is lightly comedic, but more from the atmosphere of fun conversation than set-up-and-deliver jokes. Many tears fall and many voices are raised.

To give any synopsis of the movie would almost ruin it, because the story is rich and purposeful from the moment it begins. Set over the course of 4 years' time, it tracks the dynamic of the relationships these 4 have, and share, with each other. Is honesty ALWAYS the best policy? Are some things truly better left unsaid... or can honesty be a weapon the same way deception can? Watch and see.

House of 1000 Corpses - 4/10

I watched this primarily because I heard that "The Devil's Rejects" is so much better. The directing style was cool (though it smacked of "Natural Born Killers") and some of the characters were pretty original, but overall, it just wasn't scary. Plus there was never an explanation of who these psychopaths are or why they are doing what they are doing, which makes the story less compelling.

It's good if you accept the cheesy dialogue in the beginning and realise before watching it that it's not very funny, but more dark and kind of depressing.

It's one of those movies that might make you cry, actually. Adam Sandler does a suprisingly good job.

Spoiler: Morty's name is long for Mort, which is death, interestingly enough

I liked it. Wasn't really dark and depressing IMO, just makes you think. Along the lines of Bruce Almighty. For sure made me cry. I'd recommend it, if not for theaters (we had free tickets, so I'm not sure how I'd feel if I'd paid for it), then for sure as a rental.

Went to see Nacho Libre with a friend last night. The preview made it look hilarious, but the movie itself was pretty mediocre.

We went into the movie expecting to be wasting our ticket prices, and while it did have humorous moments, it met our low expectations.

The nun in the movie is beautiful. One of the most beautiful actresses I've seen in quite some time, and defenitely saved the movie from being a total loss for me.

Darkness: 4/10: Not exactly sure what was going on throughout the film, but I was not impressed with the scare factor.

Shall We Dance: 3/10. I have no idea why this film was made because it didn't exactly go anywhere. Yeah, so J-Lo likes to dance and Richard Gere wants to know how to dance, I could care less. The actors and actresses's attempted to make it serious, but I didn't feel it.

The Perfect Man: 1/10. I found this movie to be amusing because Hilary Duff and crew were trying to be serious about their lives and I found it to be way over dramatic.

Nacho Libre: 5/10. Jack Black is an excellent singer, actor, and comedian, but, the story was average, some of the jokes fell flat and the movie was longer that it should have been.

Grancey 06-28-2006 11:19 AM

I watched Broken Trail on AMC. I love westerns like this, and Robert Duvall was his usual. I hope the high ratings are a sign that more projects such as this will be in the works.
Not a great film, but I give it a 10 for cinematgraphy.
An encore is scheduled for July 6.

Finally watched Cars this weekend since I was away on vacation. Not a bad movie just not as enjoyable as the other Pixar films. =(

Superman Returns
I think I can now declare my undying love for Singer
First he makes X-men, and it kicks ass.
Then he makes X2 and it kicks more ass.
Then he drags Superman out the of development hell the movie has been in for the last decade or so, and guess what? It kicks ass too. It's not perfect but damn it's good. Routh totally did it for me both as Clark and Superman, and Spacey plays Lex cold and evil without the goofy stuff of the first ones. See this movie if you even remotely like Superman.

A History of Violence -- 7/10

Weird movie. That makes two movies I've seen where Maria Bello has unexpected nude/sex scenes. I definitely enjoyed the ending, though.

Zu Warriors -- 6/10

Bizarre asian movie about these warriors with superpowers fighting against a computer-generated bloody force, Insomnia. Which was funny, because I was watching it since I couldn't sleep. The special effects were entertaining and very interesting. I was annoyed throughout because the video, audio, and subtitle tracks were all off from each other and I couldn't fix it or I'd probably given it a little higher. The wire-assisted martial arts were cool, but it needed more fighting. :D

Seven Swords -- 7/10

I've been on an asian movie kick. This one I really dug. The story was pretty tradtional in terms of Japanese foklore... A town is going to be attacked and gets assistance from five warriors from Mount Heaven with seven swords forged by a master. This one had some awesome fight scenes. Some of the slowness in the middle (for plot development, ostensibly) was made up for by the last major fight scene. Blood was CG and a little distracting, but I'd watch it again. The laughter of the General got me going every time. Hilarious.

the devil wears prada....7/10

Meryl Streep was amazing. I never tire of watching her on screen. Her talent is legendary. Stanley Tucci was perfect.

SUPERMAN RETURNS

I know I'm a bit late writing this, but seeing it 4 times has really broadened my perspective on the movie. This is my conclusion: Superman is Jesus for athiests and this movie doesn't disapoint athiests. 5/5

Pirates of the Carribean II: Dead Man's Chest

9/10

Loved it. The end didn't wrap up as much as I'd hoped, but it definitely leaves you hanging for the sequel. It was lots of fun, had good swashbuckling scenes, and some outrageous Jack Sparrow moments. Does not disappoint in the slightest.

Nimetic 07-08-2006 06:50 PM

I saw "Wolf Creek" last night.

This is a relatively low-budget Australian thriller. Unusually for an Australian production, it aims to be scary more than anything else. I don't normally go for this type of flick, but yeah, thought I'd watch it anyways.

I don't want to give the story away, but the basic premise is clear from the jacket notes. Some travellers are going to be in a relatively uninhabited area and are going to run afoul of one or more locals - and sure enough this happens.

As I say, I don't watch thrillers. I don't know that I found it particularly scary - but it did have me in suspense in a few places and the GF was scared. I think it would have been better to see it in the cinema, it's more of a big screen film. And interruptions (as you have at home) really break the moment.

Another reason for seeing it on a larger screen... and for watching it generally was the scenery. It did have some great lanscape style shots which were pretty. Particularly for us city-folk. I did wonder sometimes about the mixing of these shots into the story.

Overall I'd give it a 6.5/10. I'm fairly harsh critic.

If you see it and like it though - be sure to check out "The Proposition" and even "Mad Max" (the original and best). You might also want to read up first on Ivan Milat and Peter Falconio (on Wikipedia for example).... to get yourself in the mood for a fright.

Love Actually -- 8/10

The lady wanted to watch this again. After this viewing, I had to put a moratorium on it until next Christmas. Wonderfully crafted to manipulate, great music, love it in spite of myself.

Grancey 07-11-2006 10:20 AM

Prairie Home Companion 7/10

No thrills, no violence, just a great story and excellent work by Meryl Streep, and dare I say.....Lindsay Lohan. The gap between her public actions and her acting skills leave me perplexed. Will the real Miss Lohan, please stand up......

Catwoman

-294820/10

In all honesty, I watched ONE minute of this movie. During this one minute, I wanted to stab someone. Anyone. This movie is so *visually* aggrivating, I'm sure they could use it to get Al Qaeda prisoners to talk. I caught this scene where Halle Berry is at a club and then finds herself in a fight out back. Well, I cant tell you how terrible this viewing experience was... I cannot explain how IMPROPERLY it was shot, choreographed and edited. All I can say is... don't watch it. I have suffered so you don't have to.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

6/10.

Definitely not as good as the first, and the storyline dragged on. Acting wasn't super, especially because Keira Knightley and her character lack...a certain...j'ne sais quoi. The CG was amazing though.

Superman Returns

4/10

I didn't like this movie at all. It felt disjointed, and it never seemed to get started or go anywhere. I didn't enjoy the director's XMEN movies either, or the third one. I do think that this movie managed to capture the Superman feel, which is a positive, but didn't save the movie for me.

Grancey 07-13-2006 04:32 PM

The Proposition 8/10

This was an extremely violent movie....not for the faint-hearted and maybe not for me. An Australian western, the characters and scenery were superb. The story was gripping, and the pace held me for the entire film. There was no yawn time. I recommend it, but I could not watch it again. Emily Watson was fabulous.

I guess I'm just a sucker for the charm of Superman movies, and I'll always wonder ... how do they not realize that Clark Kent is Superman?

POTC: DMC

8/10

I thought it topped the original in every conceivable way, with more action, more funny, and excellent effects. There was a bit of a lull in the middle of the movie, but other than that it was nonstop awesome.

Jimellow 07-13-2006 07:55 PM

Oceans Twelce.

I thought it was mediocre. Too complex, and stretched suspension of disbelief way too thin.

My take on it was that the director wanted to do a movie that was totally original (instead of a remake, like Oceans Eleven), and failed.

The cast was impressive, the acting average, but the plot mediocre and overly complex.

Pirates II : Dead Man's Chest

Oh My. Johnny Depp. mmmm... Orlando Bloom's lovely back exposed... dear me.
It was the most fun I've had at the movies, maybe ever. Every time Sparrow ran to or fro in this movie, I nearly peed my pants laughing!
Great Flick! 9/10
