UN Category: Inoffensive Centrist Democracy Civil Rights: Some Economy: Strong Political Freedoms: Very Good Location: the Pacific The Republic of My United States is a tiny, pleasant nation, remarkable for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 5 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often. The medium-sized government concentrates mainly on Law & Order, although Education and Healthcare are on the agenda. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 14%. I played a similar game referred to as Order of Power that was actually human GMed and had only real nations. My country was Colombia, and my goal was to strike a deal with the cocaine cartels and put an end to the suffering of the people in the ongoing drug wars. It was fun for a while, but it does get sort of repetitive.

There are some pretty amazing off-site NationStates sites out there, but the best one I've seen is this one for the region The New Meritocracy. It's got it all: a news page, a forum, and a very cool Census, using the NationStates XML feed. http://merit.jink.org/nm.php All is Revealed Last night we ran a scan to work out how many of each nation type there are in NationStates. Who dominates the community: free-market ideologues, anti-state libertarians, psychotic dictators, iron-fist socialists... or someone else? The results are slightly surprising -- see for yourself. http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi Spoiler warning: this page contains a list of every UN classification type in the game. |

Either that or you deliberately torture them. It's really up to you. And here's the link: <a href="http://www.nationstates.net/">NationStates</a> Have fun with it, and post your nation's status to let the rest of us know what you're doing with it. This was fun for a while, until it became very obvious that the creator of the system was so completely slanted in his/her political views that they had no idea what civil rights is even about. If the government wasn't involved in solving extremely simplistic issues for the population, then the solution was bad bad bad and drastically effected your liberties rating.
It was fun getting started, but someone needs to put together a version of this which has no hidden agenda so that I can create a separatist libertarian government without being accused of stomping civil rights simply because I don't believe in federally subsidizing every aspect of life.
