No, not Nam.
Yes E. of India |
are you in the Philippines?
|
island country?
|
Man, I'm sorry guys I'm WEST of India.
So, no not the PI. But I will tell you I'm on an island and it's an island I have been to while in the Navy. On the phone with my daughter when I replied to that last one. |
Are you in the Maldives?
...reminds me I want to call my daughter, too. Still not sure where you are, but she's in Olympia, WA. |
West, doubling checking my atlas, definitely WEST of the Maldives.
Sunday mornings are family phone calls for me. I really like Skype, being a cheap bastard- .02 calls to the states. |
we're still looking for a country, right?
asian, country, west of india, island... |
Yes, UP West of India, island country, Asia.
Looking at how far Asia branches west will help you see the right waters. |
are you in the Seychelles?
edit: I guess this must be wrong since further searching tells me it is part of Africa, not Asia. new guess: are you in Socotra? ...apparently that is part of Yemen. |
i got nothin'...
|
UP- No
Nick- no, but getting close. Look north and a little more west. Here ya go UP: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...&ct=image&cd=1 Any of these countries meet the Island nation west of India, North of Yemen test? Might want to keep in mind I was there in the Navy years ago, we've had a Navy unit there for years. |
I can hardly find any more islands around there....
are you in Bab el Mandeb? |
last best guess...christmas island?
|
|
No and no.
Guys, take a look in the Persian Gulf for an island nation friendly to the US. Friendly enough to allows us a Navy Support Unit for years, think 5th fleet. It's a small nation, but in a really good location for current events. After this I'll just post a photo and we can move on. |

So I'll say are you in Faylakah? |

We have a winner! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3161/...7c66ae.jpg?v=0 That would be yours truly in the near center, little right kind of off by myself. Might notice what a sausage fest this "pool party" was. Bahrian was not a port of call to get laid in. Luckily it was one of very few that wasn't. You be the man UP, your game. |
Talk about that...how come no wimmin posting in this thread? Don't they like geography?

Are you in Wyoming? ....I don't think you're a dental floss tycoon or I would guess Montana. |
Speaking of Ho's ya in Nevada?

Howdy, pardner....you're in Deadwood South Dakota on main street.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...cs5/000011.jpg |
Nice job Nick. I was going to say Utah.
Well UP's duffing it, I'm off to Chichen again. Wish I could say I thought I'd be back before Phil. Be back tonight. |
Hope you get lucky again, Tul. As they say in philly ...see yous guys later
...reminds me that my Xwife gave me a very nice little sentimental card early in our relationship which had a picture of a scene...to make the point of saying "eye scene" which referred to "I seen", a gramatically incorrect thing I used to say since I grew up on Philly and in spite of getting A's in english and being reasonably well educated in college I was still using that slang. |
i seen that you're it, nick...
how'd you get it from main street looking south? been there before? |
Quote:
nah, I'm just an awesome googler ;) I never even heard of the place until I started searching clues in your pic...and for sure I never even seen the place before  I have to head home now so give me an hour or so to figure out someplace cool to be....not cool temperature wise, though that may also be in the cards. So I promise I won't look at your guesses until I decide where I am...so if you want to throw out some places, I'll reply yes or no when I check back here later. |
I got to thinking about this while driving today, I think I drove through here on the way back from Mt. Rushmore and the Crazyhorse monument. If I remember right it's up a steep hill and in canyon. Didn't stop, there wasn't any parking. Pretty bad when you don't even recognize places you've been.
OK, Nick- NH? |
western h?
|
tul, nope, I'm in the SH.
unc, yes WH. |
South America?
|
nope
|
Island?
|
yes, it is an island.
|
Easter Island?
|
I like that guess, but it's still a bit off target.
|
It's getting late, I'm tired figured I'd take a shot in the dark
East of Easter Is? |
I had to look that up...but it's actually west of Easter Is.
|

|

|
Cook Islands?
|
not Cook. Go south, young man, go south.
|
Pitcairn Island?
|
Nope, not Pitcairn....go south, young man, go south.
But as I was looking around French Polynesia I saw this place and WISHED I was there right now..I believe this is Bora Bora: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...pics6/9439.jpg |
Let's get cold then...
Carney Island? |
not cold enough
|
south orkney?
|
oh brrrrrrr, you're getting colder...which is good. But still not far enough south.
|
only island i can see south of orkney is antarctica...
|
I'm out too, thought there might be a Shackleton expedition connection. But I checked and Elephant and Ross are both East of Easter.
|
Tully, can I borrow your GPS? I hope I got my bearings right, I'll have to double check that because I am in Antarctica and the spot I had in mind is on the Ross Ice Shelf...actually at McMurdo Station which is Lat & Long: 77°50' S & 166°40' E
uncle phil, since you said Antarctica first, I'd say it's fair for you to go next. |
Quote:
Yep, your right. Trying to zoom into it on google maps and compare Lon. I kept getting this freaking message "unable to provide images at this level, please zoom out." The when I zoom out I can't tell which island is which, no names. I just gave up. But I double checked on Wiki and your numbers are right. I wonder if google doesn't provide zooming to IP addresses outside the states? UP gave me a link to Hell, Norway and I got nothing. Just one big gray screen full of "unable to provide images at this level, please zoom out." |
I've also run into some google maps problems in this thread...lack of detail in some areas like you say. But then I just hunt down other sources.
Here's one of the maps of Antarctica that I used to determine approx. longitude, but then I looked up the numbers I posted above after you shook my confidence http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...itical-map.jpg |
Quote:
Thanks for the map. I wouldn't let my geog. knowledge shake your confidence. I'm dyslexic as hell. When I sail I have to triple check shit all the time. Same thing when I used to fly a lot. In fact the guy that got me to stop talking about flying and actually get my ticket used to call me "Corrigan." Though I can honestly say once in the sky I never got turned around or lost. I was looking around down there and doing some searches based on Shackleton (long time hero of mine.) I glanced at the islands I mentioned based on those searches, but like I said when I zoomed out they looked east of Easter. I find those low lats. confusing, don't know why? The numbers are the numbers, they don't lie. |
I have my own twist to your directionally challenged self. My problem is that no matter where I am, even if I've never been there, I really never feel "lost" and figure that eventually I'll get my bearings. This can lead to problems if my copilot is not like minded, but it can also lead to interesting discoveries. I can hardly believe all the cool stuff I've stumbled upon while randomly driving down unknown roads. Of course in a desolate, life-threatening environment like Antarctica, or other true wilderness, I would have to change my perspective on this.

ok, hang on while i fnd the darts...
