well, it's on the rapids that are on the river joining lake Superior to downstream lakes. We usually call the place "The Soo". Same as it's counterpart across the river in Michigan.

S Teresa?
|
HIS name means all-compassionate...
How many towns with saint's names are there 20km north of Olbia? BTW La Maddalena is on the La Maddalena Archipelago off Sardinia and 40km away from Olbia. keep trying...I can always give it to the next person who makes it within 10 km of the town |

palau?

not Palau.
Ok if no-one says anything for a while, then I will automatically hand the torch to Tully for the closest guess (Olbia). It's good enough for me. |
San Teodoro
* edit: if that is correct, i have a place in mind, and you can proceed with the preliminaries. I'll be back in a couple of hours... If it's not... never mind. |

I see a Santa Lucia but it doesn't look like it's on a white sandy beach and seems closer then 20K. |
pretty sure it has to be San Pantaleo
|
Quote:
Yes it is south. Looking back, I see he stated North, so I am wrong... |
BadNick has it. :)
|
damn! I was hoping one of you guys would get it.
Where in the world am I? ...clue: an island |
interesting. What made you think of San Pantaleo? I've never heard of it...
|
Leto, I never heard of it either. But the "beauty" of the internetz is we can do a google on Sardinia and pull up any number of maps, then zoom in and follow little_tipper's navigation instructions....though I use "navigation" loosely in the current-use sense and not as in navigating at sea re: "naval"...though I do like a nice soft tummy and navel to play with now and then...anyway, then I checked a couple links to travel reports of some little coastal towns in that part of Sardinia and there is was...beautiful white beaches, dancing and music, a saint....say no more....well I'll say one more thing by pasting what I found:
at this site: http://www.goingtosardinia.com/desti...n_Pantaleo.htm "For those looking for the perfect blend of white sandy beaches, lovely countryside and authentic Sardinian character the area around San Pantaleo provides the ideal solution. This village developed around the rural church dedicated to San Pantaleo; celebrations in honour of the Saint take place from the 27th to the 30th of July with a mixture of shows, dances and traditional music. The hamlet went almost unnoticed by tourists until the 1960s’, when the boom of the Emerald Coast and in particular the increasing popularity of the near Porto Cervo have led to the discovery of this quiet spot by tourists and international artists who have set their home here. San Pantaleo remains a quirky place popular with those tourists after a relaxing and authentic Sardinian holiday. Every Tuesday the village comes to life with the street market on the square, where you will find stalls with absolutely everything, from the most tasteful souvenirs to precious rarities. To get there, from Olbia take national route SS 125 and after 7 kilometres turn right following the sign that says: PORTO CERVO –BAJA SARDINIA – SAN PANTALEO. Drive along the panoramic coastal road for 10 kilometres until you get to a fork in the road, then turn left for San Pantaleo. The village is only a few kilometres away from that point." |
ok, an island...
northern hemisphere? |
good googling there BadNick!
I have a friend who's been there and told me about it. Then I googled it and found that little piece, and since I love art...I've been wanting to go to Sardinia for a while now too. I hope that's a good enough explanation. /threadjack moving along... an island...in the Aegean Sea? |
uncle_phil: not northern hemisphere
little_tippler: not Aegean Sea |
western hemi?
|
unc: not western hemi
OK, so now let's focus on southern half of the eastern hemisphere |
asian?
|
African?

not asia
not africa |
austrailia?
|
New Zealand?
|
uncle_phil is on a roll, it is part of australia ...it's not new zealand.
A little clue: it's not part of mainland Australia so forget that big island |
Tasmania? Hobart?
|
nope, neither of those
I just have the name of the island in mind...not a city |
Kangaroo Island
|
nope, K'roo Is. is nice but not where I'm at.
For practical reasons, I can only give you guys one day to figure this out and then I'll have to tell you...but I know you can do it. |
great sandy island?
|
u_p: not great sandy
ps: my previous post has a bit of a clue in it |
Eden Island
|
nope, not Eden Island, either
I'm between and up the coast from Eden and Kangaroo. |
If you mean literally between and up the coast a little, then it has to be Tabby Tabby Island.
Further up...maybe? |
l_t,
sorry I steered you wrong. I thought Kangaroo was on the west coast but now I see it's on the southern coast. Eden and Tabby Tabby are on the east coast. I'm on the north coast....and it's a place that has some "significance" on the north coast. |
I'm thinking it will take an australian to know then...
but my shot this time will be...Groote Eylandt? |
sorry, not Groote Eylandt...but I really like that name and wish I was there.
OK, I'll put my clues together and maybe it'll be a little help: - an island of some "significance" on the north coast...so there is something special about it - I was hoping you guys ...and gals... would get it before tomorrow |
Dunk island, significant for its rain forest
|
not Dunk I. either :( ...but that's closer. Keep going more north.
It looks like in about 20 minutes it will be tomorrow where I am. |
my latest edit: well here it is, Thursday, and you still don't have it figured out? How far north did you look?
|
Melville Island? did anybody say Melville yet?
|
Leto,
nobody said Melville yet...and it ain't Melville. You're too far west. If you guys are fed up with this one and want to move on, just say so. |
ok. i give. what kind of significance are we looking for?
|
not fed up, want to get it!
It's a good way to learn some geography ;) Possession Island? |
Sorry, not Possession Island.
But damn, little tippler is persistent! go dude....ummm, l_p, you are a dude, aren't you?...or are you a dudess?...sorry I don't know...need nakid pic to determine. Forgive me for "lecturing" however mild, but in addition to learning geography try to extract a clue when I say it's a clue...admittedly I'm not the greatest, most obvious clue giver but I don't want to make it too easy...I said it has significance and look north..."how far north did you look?" and I said I hope you can guess it before today is over...today is Thursday. If I get any more obvious, I'd have to send you airline tickets to this nice little island! Go folks...give it a shot. |
Croker Island appears to be the northernmost island in Australia. Is that it?
|
Nope. According to info I found, Croker Island is not the northernmost TOWN in Australia. And checking a map closely makes the following info look correct.
According to wikipedia, though admittedly that's not hardcore authentic info, it says this about the place I am waiting for you guys to figure out...and it's oh so lonely here without you folks, though I'm enjoying the beautiful peace, quite, and tropical weather: "...XXXX is noteworthy for being the most northerly town in Australia..." And to back it up, I found this info about this place at Koala Net: "...and the most northerly town is XXXX..." And wow, by now it's almost too late since it's already Friday the 13th...but it has more to do with yesterday. |
Thursday Island then.
And I am a hot chick I'll have you know! ;) |
