I get more stuff wrong around here then I get right but...
Didn't she say in post #1695 "no, not lake water?" Course I thought she said east of the mighty Mississippi too, so? |
j: not Hoover Dam
GD: no, not Colorado River up: no, not lake havasu j: no, not Lake Tahoe Tully: #1677 says no, not east of the Mississippi River #1695 says no, not lake water Tully: YES! I am looking at the Pacific. edit: I have to work tomorrow, so go rent a movie and then come back and guess this place. |
Oregon?
|
towman: nope, not Oregon
recap: United States Not east of Mississippi River I can see water It is not lake water It is the Pacific It is not California or Oregon |
Are you in Washington?
|
Hawaii
|
Jetee: Yes. Where in Hawaii?
|
Barrack's lap?
Seriously, Honolulu? |
Maui?
|
Quote:
I'll say the isle of Kahului, on some kind of path toward a volcano. |
pig: no
tully: no jetee: no, wrong island go rent a movie, that was your clue. |
O'ahu?
(Which movie should I rent, Flipper?) Oh, wait I got it! Pearl Harbor. |
jetee: no, but not too far away.
EDIT: Jetee and I posted at the same time. The 'not far away' answer was to O'ahu. Pearl Harbor is correct! Your turn, Bunny! |
Not even the post-guess?
If you are on one of the islands, yet not on O'ahu, the main, or Hawai'i, the next logical guess would be Maui, or perhaps Kauaʻi... but I really want you to be on Molokai; I love the archipelagos. Hm... Maui? |
Jetee, I think you missed the part where I said YOU WON! :D
|
Oh... well :oogle:
I guess we missed a step there. A little history on behalf of Pearl Harbor, provided by one of my favorite pubications worldwide, Nat'l Geo: Beyond the Movie: Pearl Harbor I cannot hope to speak the volumes in which they address the issue, but here is a tiny sampling of what to find. Quote:
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Okay, you can start guessing, but it'll be be a little while until I firmly grasp my toes on where exactly I am; so, can you accurately divine where my being is residing on this Planet Earth? |
WH?

Northern Hemisphere?
|
Yes, perhaps, also correct.
|
so, WH, NH...
city? |
Perhaps? Are you on a line of one of the two?
|
Yes, and misconstrued; silly, perhaps...
Wait... after researching a bit, I have discovered I am within 2° of a bisecting line... very keen, Tully. It would seem my unconsciousness is doling out clues without me being aware of it. Weird. :surprised: |
Are you somewhere on the equator?
|
No.
|
Are you somewhere on the prime meridian?
|
greenwich?
|
I am close to it, as I said above, though not in Greenwich.
|
Are you west of GMT?
|
What does that mean? I am in GMT.
Also already answered that I am in NH, WH, in a city. |
In Africa?
|
No, not in Africa.
|
Europe?
|
Yes, in Europe.
|
Woohoo! Ok, ok.
Spain? |
Yes, I am in Spain.
Post-Edit: Somewhat coincidental now that I realize we both have participated in that other thread. But it had no influence in me choosing where I stand. |
Quote:
Madrid? |
No, not in the capital. (And to clarify, the Olympic Spanish Basketball thread was to what I was referring.)
|
are you north of Madrid?
|
Not much is above where I am, so yes... I am up and beyond the city of Madrid.
|
West of Llanes?
|
No, just the opposite.
|
San Sebastian?
|
No, not my watering hole.
|
Pamplona?
|
No.
This shouldn't last too much longer, so I'll reiterate... two degrees. |
Barcelona
|
No.
|
Blast!! Damn you!!
*shakes fist* -----Added 14/8/2008 at 01 : 18 : 19----- Are you in the Pyrenees? |
According to this map:
http://www.worldatlas.com/aatlas/infopage/pyrenees.gif ... no, I am not taking a hike on my afternoon strolls. Not to say you aren't in the genreal vicinity. |
By the ocean? Meaning there's a beach nearby.
-----Added 14/8/2008 at 01 : 26 : 44----- Bilbao? |
I never said "by the ocean"... did I? :oogle:
Is my subconscious gving you clues again?? :grumpy: I am working against myself here!! BUT... http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...7588eaf963.jpg Nonetheless... You have sucessfully invaded my vicinity! I was amazed that you were able to discern I was so close to a bisecting earth line, even if my comment of "perhaps" was in regards to me being "silly". That was just a coincidence, I think. :paranoid: unclephil also gave out the best description of a NH, WH, city... coupled with being near the PM... I thought it would be a cinch. However, Barcelona is "East" of the Meridian, and there are some obscure Spanish cities also on the northern tip of the African continent. But it checks out: Coordinates : 43°15′51″N 2°55′25.50″W Another nice fun fact of la ciudad de Bilbao: It is the site of a Guggenheim Museum http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...lbao-jan05.jpg -----Added 14/8/2008 at 01 : 45 : 37----- Go, jorgelito, Go! |
Wow, I love the pictures! It's a lovely touch.
I got stuck for spell but I really wanted to finish tonight. I will resume in the morning. |

Samarkand was a thriving, bustling center of trade and a major city along the Silk Road. It's openness and diverse peoples made it a great city. It was a east-west convergence point. Marco Polo indeed passed through there and the Mongols made it their capital at one point. I encourage you guys to look it up sometime, even on Wiki. Fascinating stuff. I was really impressed with the efficient way you guys narrowed it down at the beginning. Good job everyone. Ok Tully, you are up. Where in the world are you? |
Gez, took me long enough. Well a little brush up on Mongolian, Uzbekistan history never hurt anyone. Interesting stuff. I didn't realize how much of some of the historical time lines overlay each other.
Ok, go! |

Your country's flag contains either yellow and/or red.

With a flag on the play. If you ask a question that's really two questions- you're in violation of the rules of the game. In this case it's not that big of deal, but I'd hate to start with questions like "are one of these two colors on the country's flag" and end up with "are you on one of these three continents _____, ______, ______?" One question at a time, keeps it fair to all:thumbsup: |
Understood.
