Bowl of cereal to squash my after workout munchies.

You know how I know I'm a bachelor? I eat cereal like four times a day.

Cheerios are my constant NOM NOM NOM companion.

I eat a lot of cereal but I am not a bachelor. I just like cereal. Yesterday I picked up another big bag of Nature's Path Heirloom flakes. Yummy.

I'm not eating those right now though--right now I'm eating a turkey sammich on Blues Bread with Best Foods mayonnaise (Hellmann's to you Easterners).

Just finished an awesome meal at the fam's Easter hoedown. Ham, mashed taters, homemade rolls, mac 'n cheese, spinach salad, corn, chicken 'n dumplings, and blueberry cheesecake. Holidays rule.

I'm drinkin' a beer.
Granted it's a Mic Ultra and that's kinda embarrassing, but fairly soon I will be indulging in a Murphy's (if the stupid ass company has finally gotten their distribution straight) and a lovely bowl of Guinness Beef Stew with some soda bread to celebrate the submission of my first and most critical Doctor Paper (if I don't pass this particular one, I'm out of the program) and the release of my minions who are currently committing aphid genocide on my porch garden with freakish enthusiasm.
Pictures to follow.
Of my minions.
Not the Mic Ultra.
'Cause that's embarrassing.

What is the deal with every risotto recipe asking for a 4:1 broth to rice ratio (or more)? I've made risotto many times and I've never needed it in more than a 2:1 ratio.

Yeah, next time I'm going to only bother heating up 4 cups, but I'd never made risotto before, so I followed the recipe closely.

Charlatan 04-28-2009 04:02 PM

I love Risotto... I love Risotto Rice Pudding even more... Instead of Chicken Stock and Wine, use milk and spices.

I am currently drinking my morning coffee and thinking about the tasting menu I will be eating tonight.

Lindy

Quoting myself from about a month ago.
I am addicted to macadamia nuts, and just stopped at a Walgreens in Columbus Ohio and bought a bag of macadamia nuts. NINE OUNCES FOR FOUR DOLLARS!!!!! I thought, this is too cheap, (less than half the usual price in Boston) they can't be any good. I haven't seen macadamia nuts this cheap anywhere except Hawaii. But they are fine. Maybe a little too salty, but certainly very good. I'll have to get more -- see if I can gain some weight on my trip.

california roll with avocado on it. They call it a dragon roll, but that's a load of bull.

Yellow cupcakes with lemon frosting, still warm from the oven. They are amazing.

Somehow I don't think that is really is a good source of whole grain

Unwrapped

contents according to Taste: This version of Chex Mix included caramel popcorn, Caramel Chex cereal, Chocolate Chex cereal, honey roasted peanuts, round pretzels and milk chocolate candies. The Caramel Chex pieces were basically Corn Chex pieces drizzled in caramel (yum!), and the chocolate Chex pieces weren't as tasty as the chocolate peanut-butter pieces in another variety of Chex Mix. The addition of the caramel popcorn and Caramel Chex pieces made this taste like Cracker Jacks, since there were also peanuts. But it was a great sweet and salty combination, well worth devouring in one sitting.

or watered down apple juice and with berries and maple syrup added - yum (not actually eating this, but still tasty).

Aglio e Olio with ditalini instead of spaghetti.

Strange Famous 05-12-2009 11:05 AM

I made this meal. I got recipe online but I'll tell it in my own language like.

First, chop an onion and a carrot, fry them in vegtable oil kind of medium heat for 8 mins, relatively easy

Next, throw in half a mug full of rice (just raw like)

Stir it all round nice and thorough for a minute

Add 1/2 pint of vegtable stock (warm) and about a half cup of fresh unsweetened orange juice (I used Knorr stock cube)

Now cover that son of a bitch up and leave it to simmer 10 mins on a mildly increased heat to the one you were using on the onions and such

At this point after its had 10 mins add some frozen pea's, two shakes of pepper and two shakes of salt and recover

At this point also commence to grill under medium force the shaved rind of the two oranges you squeezed for your juice and like half a hand of salted peanuts

Let the nuts grill and the rice cook like another 5

Take it all off the heat and combine it, give it a really good forking - rough like: and a bit of fresh parsley if you want darling

__

To be honest it was disappointing. It tasted ok, but kind of bland to be honest and the peanuts werent right, the texture just didnt seem nice when combined with the rice.

Still, if a man never tried new things, where would be in this life of ours?

BadNick 05-15-2009 06:36 PM

I'm not really eating it now since I just made all this disappear...some yummy sushi rolls with some Tako seaweed salad on which you can see the little red squids
