my two sons and I are having dinner right now...here's a pic ...wish you could be here, too

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...d/dadinner.jpg

which I can describe as ...straight back are Michael's crab cakes, to the right are Tyler's lobster ravioli, and heading front left you'll notice my glass of Belgian strong dark ale, and my barely grilled sushi-grade tuna with sort of a green goddess on it...and who the hell doesn't LOVE a green goddess! especially if she's wearing the trendy booty shorts I was just reading about and posted in another thread with a "hot pic" hint hint

...which reminds me of the fine buzz I have this moment which is why you may have detected a "loose tongue", thankfully due to that Brasserie d Achouffe N'Ice Chouffe Belgian dark ale

This one pours up a dark amber/brown color. An almost three-finger head of light tan colored, fluffy foam sits on top. Retention is fairly good and lacing is craggy/fluffy and nicely sticky.

Great big notes of lots of dark fruits jump out at me first. Loads of raisins and a good deal of caramel malts. Belgian candi sugars, dark and golden brown sugars and both dark and golden caramels all make a showing. The spice level is much more muted than expected.

Lots of raisins, with some toffee and caramel notes thrown in. Mild level of corriander spiciness. The spice presence is more on the back-end than in the flavor. Good, mild level of brown sugar. A fair amount of rich maltiness.

This beer is medium-bodied with a mild-to-medium level of carbonation. It is extremely smooth and has a nice, light, presence of creaminess.

You can feel the 10.0%abv as you make it through the bottle, but you certainly don't taste it. This is very nice, very smooth and nicely drinkable.

...I couldn't have said that better myself...well, I could have but this is easier...and this one was from draft

raptor9k 02-06-2010 06:25 PM

Two slices of dense, delicious whole wheat bread form the Organic market spread lightly with Simply Jif after being toasted and then topped with local organic Tupelo honey. I ran out of bananas. With an enormous mug of Queztal (or something like that) Breakfast Blend Intelligentsia coffee.

I love days off.

World's King 02-16-2010 12:39 PM

Pizza. And you can't have any.

Kimchi. I get in these weird moods sometimes where I have to have some, where I start craving the combo of spicy/pickled.

I wish I had pics of it all since it looked so nice. I had dinner at Meritage in Philadelphia, nice little place at 20th & Lombard.

I started off with a martini made with orange Stoli and fresh squeezed orange and lemon juice, probably a dash or two of something else...very clean, smooth and tasty.

Next were two Korean short rib tacos on soft flour tortilla, topped with braised short rib, spicy Korean chili sauce and kimchi.

Then I had cauliflower soup with roasted cauliflower florets, curry oil and frizzled mint...I love cauliflower.

For the "large plate" I had pan-seared scallops with shortrib ravioli, oyster mushrooms, and baby spinach. I made sure each bite of the medium-rare scallops took a long deep dive into the very tasty light broth/sauce. I was the lifeguard, but I ate the victims.

For dessert I had a nice glass of Mondavi Moscato d'Oro...it made me feel like I was sipping the nectar of the gods, a dry, barely sweet muscat blanc grape dessert wine. It matched perfectly to the chocolate fight that unexpectedly developed at my table.

Starkizzer 02-27-2010 10:47 PM

raptor9k 03-01-2010 06:51 PM

My wife bought some pita chips the other day and I told her she should buy hummus instead of salsa when she buys them. Mmmm hummus.
