Thats Ashlee Simpson btw

Just because some Paris models are heroin thin doesn't mean that its what most men think of as 'hot'.

To be fair, women are probably harder on themselves than men are. I'd say most men don't care as much as women think they do. Sure, they don't want to wake up beside Nelly the Elephant but larger women can be quite sexy. Its more about 'emotional weight' than 'physical weight'. If someone keeps telling me how fat they are I am going to think they are fat.

Indeed, health is important. Obesity is bad. However, healthy women do run the gamut. Some are thicker than others. Nothin' wrong with that.

American women are getting fatter. They've just recently revamped the sizes. I used to be a 4, now I'm a 2. I didn't lose any weight. I have dress patterns in this house from the 1960's. My measurements put me at a size 10 on those patterns. I walk into JC Penny's and try on a size 2 and it fits.

Manroe may have been a size 10 in her day. I do not contest that.
But I would have been, too.

There's nothing ugly about a women's body of any size - as long as you're healthy and able to do everything necessary to live your lifestyle.

It's a matter of proportions. If you have large hips (which is a trait that was far more common 50 years ago) then you can have a larger waistline. A lot of "skinny" girls these days? They have boyish figures. You throw another 20 pounds on them and they have a gut, not a sexy, curvy figure. I'm not sure what dietary (or other) change occured in the last half century, but THAT is the big difference these days. A lot of girls would put on weight and not be "curvy" the way we truly idealize women. Some women pull it off amazingly.

Now, with the above said, I also believe that a lot of sexiness and attractiveness is based on attitude and self-awareness rather than blunt body build. My ex was a little bit bigger (a 14 I do believe) but she wasn't "fat". She carried herself amazingly (she was also on the shortish side) and she never looked ungood. I have a friend that is "bigger", but she also takes care of how she looks (dress, style, et cetera) and she is very happy with herself. She is a very pretty girl!

Of course, of note is that I am attracted to a very broad array of girl types. There are girls in almost any "group" of body type that I will find attractive and that I will not. The exception is the ultra skinny. I cannot STAND a girl that you could play the xylophone on her ribs. But again, it's a personal preference. I've dated thicker girls, thinner girls, shorter girls, average girls... *shrug* There's a lot more to attraction than the number on a scale.

All I can say is, if I was a guy, the first chick in the roses would be the last woman I'd want to be slamming my dick into at high speed. She looks like she'd break a rib if you sucked on her nipple.

I'm quite glad to be a woman that my husband can fuck as hard and fast as possible, with a healthy-sized ass to slap and plenty of breast to molest. I can't imagine fucking is any fun when you're afraid you're going to break your partner in half.

I suppose I just don't understand the analogy between skinny and fragile. *shrug* Just because your bones are closer to your skin doesn't mean they're going to break more easily. Maybe bruising is a little easier, but what does that matter?

I'm small, and I have plenty of ass to slap.. not so much on the breasts, but at least they're not going to sag and they don't get in the way of my outside activities (OR hurt my back). I also really enjoy being able to see my ribs when I stretch (and I know at least one guy who enjoys that, too). Could I be happier in a "thicker" body? Perhaps, but that's not what my frame is built for, nor is it conducive to riding ponies like I do regularly during the summer.

I suppose I just dislike the idea that good sex requires "plenty of boobs and ass."

Yeah, the whole "being able to be easily picked up/thrown around/held up against the wall" thing is pretty nice.

Each to her own. I prefer to be the one picking up/throwing people against the wall. (My husband and I are less than 10 lbs apart in weight, though I doubt anyone would guess that from looking at us.)

To most men this is horrifying.

The issue to me is don't blame society if you are fat, don't blame the adds for making you feel undesirable, don't whine its unfair, or think its crazy models like the first picture thats your real problem. I type this as I'm hungry as I'm trying to loose weight because I know I gained to much in the last year and want to do something about it. Do some women find me desirable? Sure, but I know more would if I dropped about 15lbs, including my wife, and I'd feel better about my self, and be a bit healthier, and these things are important to me enough to put up with low calories.

The western world is getting fat, I'm not really overly concerned about it, I think people should have the freedom to do what they want with themselves, but lets not rewrite history to claim that somehow we are not getting fat and that the problem is societies expectations of women.

Its important that girls know they don't have to look like the first or even the second model to be attractive, there is a healthy 'range' in that, but don't let that be an excuse for being over weight either.

I think women need a happy medium.
I actually think that show How to Look Good Naked for women with that Carson guy is a great eye opener for women who are insecure about themselves. I think it's really nice they're putting something like that on TV for people to see and hopefully pull their eyes off how perfect so and sos body is. My moms really self conscious about how she looks and she's curvy. 42DDs I think...unfortunately not too good for her back but you see what I mean. Curves are good in different ways.

Being healthy is the goal for me. I worry about not being a size 0 at times but I realize it's stupid to try to adapt to something impossible. I'm taller so I need more meat anyway.
You are pretty young so you haven't discovered the how the sizes are manipulated by the designers. At some point some clothes maker found out that if they call their size 10 a size 8, it sold better than if the identical piece was labeled a 10. This downsizing trend has been going on for quite some time (you can google for articles on it). Monroe was a 'size 10' and as genuinegirly said its much lower today. When I read about it several years ago she was a current size 6, I wouldn't be shocked if that were now a size 2 like she said.

My wife had issues with this after having a baby ordering new clothes on line from victorias secret. Her old size 8's were the same size as the current size 6's, same brand, same cut, same everything, just suddenly 'smaller', I wouldn't be shocked if they are a size 4 when she orders new stuff after our last child.

You know, I can see it from both sides. Growing up, I was always thin. I'm 5'4" and I never went over 110 lbs. Now that I'm in my late 20's, I find that due to choices in my life, eating habits and whatnot, I'm 150 lbs. To me, and because of society's view on weight, I feel I need to lose 30 lbs. However, I'm finding more and more men prefer women with some meat on their bones...obesity isn't attractive, but if you wear your weight well then why not flaunt it? People need to learn to be comfortable in their own skin and improve themselves in other ways, then they'll find that they are beautiful in their own eyes, and no one else's opinion will matter.

My wife complains about this as well. She is size 6 but usually has to buy a 4 or even 2 nowadays. She says you have to be careful when ordering on-line because some European designers have not altered their sizes.

What a fucking stupid advertisement decision by that company....is it just me, or are advertisements really terrible nowadays? Not just the odd terrible ad, nearly every ad you see! *shakes head*
I don't care what anyone says, Marilyn Monroe was not fat, she was absolutely gorgeous just the way she was.
I gave up a long time ago trying to "be the ideal shape." I am who I am, and I'm sick and tired of being told to fix myself.
I was a figure skater for years and years, it was all I did. So naturally, I had well-defined muscles, especially in my thighs and buttocks. I might have had a tiny waist, but i'd have to get pants a size or two bigger to fit my bum! And when you're 14 or 15 and getting shit from someone for being a size 7 or 8, well....to say the least it really sucks.
Being not even 5'3" and having unusually large muscles (which weigh more than fat might I add) made me heavier pound-wise too. I think I read somewhere that a healthy weight range for a woman around 5'3" is between 114-130 pounds.
I still have a lot of muscle mass because I work out. If I really wanted to, I guess I could stop and lose some pounds by "starving" my muscles so I could wear smaller clothes, but I like being strong! So hah! lol :P
I never had guys look at me before, I'm guessing because I was "muscular." If they find me less attractive because of that, fuck em. lol
you can't make everyone happy, so just work on making yourself happy girls <3
Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now.

One thing to remember is that the bone-skinny ideal is only marketed towards women and not men. Runway fashion models, and tabloid celebrity images are produced to exploit the insecurities of women whereas the fuller figured, large breasted ideal is used to exploit male sexual desire.

So when we're talking about "the media" and "the image", it's not as unified as you might think.

Those despicable yogurt ads are obviously not aimed at men. (Are any?) If you wanted to sell yogurt to men, here's how you'd do it.

Scene:

It's the middle of the night and joe average (dishevelled but slim and square-jawed) is rummaging around the fridge for a midnight snack. Typical of a bachelor, it's pretty much empty and all that's left is one well lit pack of yogurt. He opens it hesitantly and is about to put the spoon in mouth when suddenly his buxom, (wearing nothing but one of his dress shirts) suprises him out of the darkness and snatches the spoon from his hand. She backs slowly away, her eyes never leaving his and sucks the dollop of white yogurt off the spoon. With a knowing smile he sprints after her and together they rush off camera through the bedroom door.

Snap to black and a catchy slogan about yogurt's energizing nutrition.

The message is similar to the OP's ads (Yogurt can get you laid) but there's no hard message that you're not good enough.

"Ma'am, you need to change your lifestyle..." the thin doctor tells her.

Cut to 3 months later. She looks like she's about 120 lbs. She takes a last spoonful of yogurt and then the doorbell rings. It's her lesbian date.

i find it to be the ultimate turn on. i adore athletic women as opposed to sickly skinny women.

but i wont have society drill me to make me think that ive been brainwashed by ads and mass media to think skinny is beautiful.

to me skinny IS beautiful...

in saying that i still find 'full' women attractive.. but just not my cup of tea so to speak.

Girls are too hard on themselves a lot of times, but a lot of the time they blame being 10lbs overweight instead of the real cause of their problems. Some women are overweight and could use some exercise and better food choices. Most just need to get a better personality and lighten up.

For instance, I find these ads to be funny, contiversial and relevant. I would want to be with a girl (no matter what her weight) that would feel the same way about these ads. I wouldn't want to get into a huge debate about how it's offensive and how she thinks less of me for laughing at these ads. I mean, I would laugh at an ad with a picture of a skinny computer nerd in his dorm room at night doing homework with the caption "Forget about it, women's preferences will never change. Trogen condoms (or whatever)"

You've no idea what a pain that is when your "previous" size is zero.

Either people are getting fatter, or every scale I've ever climbed on is wrong, but I've been around 95 pounds for the last four years and I've gone from a size 2 to hopelessly browsing children's clothing. Before people start snarking about how I'll break at the flick of your finger, I'd like to point out that you'd have to catch me first.

I'm a diminutive 5'2, but have always been thin even for my height. It's obnoxious and infuriating on an entirely different level when people start out being envious and wind up whispering behind your back about a non-existent eating disorder. Who the hell do people like me whine to? Well, most of the time, we suck it up and try to be comfortable with who we are without having to tear down the general desirability and *presumed* health of differently sized women. It works surprisingly well, gals.

To be absolutely fair though, I'm bitching into the wind for no real reason. Hell, I like being somewhat androgynous. It has its perks.

Crazy

I'd like to post that while men are not quite pressured to be skinny, we are pressured in different avenues. Most of them are social, and are about power and hierarchy and achievement. It's because we know women care about men's looks less than they care about things like our 'potential to succeed,' confidence, independence, and such. Also, it seems to me that peer-approval-seeking tendencies in men is a pretty significant marketing ploy as well.

We get kicked in our insecurities-crotch by ad's and whatnot too, just in different ways than women.
But this a bit of a tangent.

As a point of interest, Nigella Lawson is nearly 50. It would appear that she has aged extremely well.

Same goes for men. I wear size 38 jeans, I'm almost down to a 36, but when I need a suit, reality kicks in and I'm back to 42 or 44.

I think some of that is down to the lower rise of casual pants today, whereas with suits the pants sit higher on the bulkier part fo the waist.
