At some point some clothes maker found out that if they call their size 10 a size 8, it sold better than if the identical piece was labeled a 10. This downsizing trend has been going on for quite some time (you can google for articles on it). Monroe was a 'size 10' and as genuinegirly said its much lower today. When I read about it several years ago she was a current size 6, I wouldn't be shocked if that were now a size 2 like she said.

My wife complains about this as well. She is size 6 but usually has to buy a 4 or even 2 nowadays. She says you have to be careful when ordering on-line because some European designers have not altered their sizes.
