oh yes...Vinnie Vincent...the blackest sheep in the Kiss flock. The one member that most hardcore Kiss fans would rather forget.

I know half of the answer. I know what his makeup was...but since I dont know what the significance (to him or Kiss) was, Im gonna hold off answering. for now anyway.

I know 2 things make that 3 about Vinnie.

1) he played guitar for Billy Idol (Gen X), KISS and David Lee Roth

2) Gene Simmons described him as the most self destructive person he ever met (which says alot considering Gene also worked with Peter and Ace)

3) he had the guitar solo to TOP GUN'S theme and that theme ROCKS.

Sorry pan, but

1.) Vinnie never played with Roth. After leaving KISS, he formed the Vinnie Vincent Invasion. He never played with Idol or in Generation X either.

2.) I agree with Gene's description of him.

3.) He is not the one playing the guitar in "Danger Zone". I don't know for certain who it is, but it wasn't Vincent.

As for perripken's question - Vinnie wore an "Ankh" and assumed the identity of "The Egyptian Warrior". I'm not sure of the significance of it unless he had egyptian roots. He was born in Conneticut.

Not Danger Zone GOT, the music where Tom Cruise is on the boat and looking out holding Goose's dogtags, that bit of music look on the soundtrack it says it's the theme. He plays the guitar and the other guy plays the piano part. I thought it was Vinnie, it is in fact Steve Stevens.

Coulda swore he played for both Idol and DLR (for one or 2 songs not a touring member). I stand corrected, it was Steve Stevens that played with them.

For some reason I always confuse the 2. Sorry.

Yes Steve Stevens played with Idol, but not with Gen X and he never played with Roth, That was Steve Vai.

But, all of that is beside the point, the current question had to do with Vinnie Vincent and I'm not sure if I satisfied all of perrpken's requirements for the answer, so I will wait for his input before moving on.

Since I kinda made a ruling on multiple part questions, I'm gonna give it to the thunderous one. I was looking for Ankh- which actually is the egyptian symol for life. The second part of the question was that Vinnie was the first and only Kiss member to have no makeup covering both eyes, other than eyeliner. The floor is your GOT!

You know I almost put something in my reply about it not covering the eyes, but I didn't think it was relevant to the question. Oh well, I guess I didn't interpret it right.

Since we're on the subject of Vinnie Vincent. As I mentioned earlier, Vinnie formed the Invasion after he left KISS.

The lead singer and bass player left the Invasion after two albums to form what band?

(hint: I didn't mention the lead singer's name because that would have given it away.)

I had to google this, as I didnt know it offhand. VERY interesting. not only did the guy in GoT's question sing for the Invasion, but also the former singer of another BIG 80's band. except this other guy wasnt the one singing when they were big.

do you know what Im talking about GoT?

Well, it looks like it is hint time.

The bass player that left the Invasion was Dana Strum, the lead singer's first name was Mark. His last name was the name of the new band they formed.

So what band was formed by former Vinnie Vincent Invasion members Dana Strum and Mark _________? <----fill in that blank to get the new band's name.

Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding. We have a winner!!!!

It just proves that Vinnie was indeed hard to work with when KISS fired him and then members of his own band then left to form a new one.

Your turn Derwood.

That was the biggest pull out of my ass answer of all time. It was literally just the first thing that came to my head, and none of the clues had anything to do with it except that it was the singer's last name.

Here's a question that you won't know if you stopped listening to new music in 1977:

Name 3 bands that Al Jourgensen has been a member of.

2 out of 3...pretty good. Thrill Kill Kult is incorrect, but right genre. I might have to give this one to you cuz it's a tough one.

Other acceptable answers are 1000 Homo DJ's, Pailhead, Buck Satan and the 666 Shooters, and others.

But we'll move on. It's Guttersnipe's question.

GoT, now that your Vinnie Vincent/Slaughter question has been answered, do you know who ELSE sang for the Invasion who was once part of a band that was BIG in the 80s (though not the singer who took them to the big time)?

note: this is NOT the current question, just a bit of side discussion. Guttersnipe is up to bat.

since its been over 24 hours that we've been waiting on Guttersnipe, Im gonna jump in with a question of my own. Just to keep things moving.

name the band, featuring Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Nile Rodgers and Robert Plant, that recorded a one-off album of classic R&B covers back in the mid 80s.

Not until I looked it up. You are referring to Robert Fleischman who sang briefly for Journey. I was only aware of Mark Slaughter. I bought the first Invasion album, but quit caring about them once Mark and Dana left.

Good stumper for me Sion, I owe you a beer.

Back to the current question, I believe Booray is correct.

Good question!

Here's a little background before my question (in case you're not familiar with the musician who the question regards). Sorry if it's a bit long-winded (or if you're already familiar with him), but I have the utmost respect for the man and figured I'd ramble for a minute:

One of my favorite guitarists (and vocalists for that matter), Warren Haynes, started playing for the Allman Brothers in 1989, forming his side project, Gov't Mule, with Allman bassist Allen Woody in '94, and then left the Allmans in '97 with Woody to pursue Gov't Mule full time. In '99, he started splitting time between Mule and Phil & Friends (one of Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh's post-Dead groups).

After Woody's death in August of 2000, Warren took a few weeks off and then, after organizing a benefit concert in Woody's honor with the Allmans, the Black Crowes, Phil & Friends, and Gov't Mule (with bassists from those bands and also a couple of guests taking over bass duties for Mule), immediately jumped back on the road with Phil & Friends and continued playing through the end of the year with them, with Mule drummer Matt Abts for a few acoustic duo dates, and at a few other various benefit shows with Mule with more guest bassists filling in.

In 2001, he jumped back out on the road with Phil in February, rejoined the Allmans on the road in mid-March, and started touring with Mule at the end of March. He toured relentlessly with all three bands through September '02, when he left Phil & Friends. Since then, he's been splitting time with "only" two full time jobs with the Allmans and Mule, popping up for various solo, guest, and benefit appearances here and there.

So, on to the question (finally, I know):
Warren is obviously a blue collar musician who loves to work and can do his job well (as evidenced by his ability to master the enormous back catalog of music by the Allmans and the Dead, which is a definite necessity since they don't come out just playing a "greatest hits" concert every show, instead, switching up setlists every night). Before he started playing with the Allmans in '89, Warren got his start playing for a blue collar country musician from '80 to '84. Who was he?

"I was drunk the day my mama got out of prison.
And I went to pick her up in the rain.
But before I could get to the station in my pickup truck,
She got runned over by a danged ol' train"

the song that this verse is from was immortalized by David Allen Coe on a live album. But the song was not written by him, but rather by a good friend of his.

name the song and the artist who wrote it.

Steve Goodman wrote it and it's called "you never called me by my name"

New Question: These lyrics are from what song, and by which artist?

well kids, it looks like it's been well over 24 hrs since mml's correct answer. Since I'm not in here as much as I used to be, I have a relatively easy question that I've wanted to ask so here goes.
At the end of the Doors song "Touch me", they say a little phrase from a commercial during that era. What is the phrase?
