So, here's a post for you WoW junkies.

I, destr0x, have never played a mmorpg but am maybe thinking about doing so. I truely love rpg's of all flavors including fps style (morrowind, vampire masqueredes, etc) 2d Fallout style and ones like Neverwinter Nights.

So lets take WoW for instance, what would it be most similar to, and would it be hard to just jump right in? Anything that is good to know as a beginner, do's and dont's.

Sell me a winning pitch. ;)

WoW is one of the most "noob" friendly mmorpgs I've played. Your hand is pretty much held through the first few levels where you learn the ins and outs. Here are a few tips.

1. READ YOUR QUEST LOG!! I cannot stress this enough. You will find all the information you need to know for all your quests here. Sure you may have to wander around looking for a specific spot but the info provided there is more than enough to start off.

2. Guards in towns will show you the way. If you click on a guard you will get a dialog box. You can then ask him about any type of npcs in the town. Say you ask where the Hunter trainer is, they will tell you and then a dot will appear on your map.

3. Take as many quests as you can(you can have up to 20). Most of these quests will involve killing things you'll be killing anyway or collecting things that they drop. Trust me, the quests are worth the XP....and sometimes the reward.

4. Dont be afraid to group. Groups are a good way to get a quest that is a bit high for you completed. Some people will just invite you without asking, if you're adverse to this just decline and whisper to them you do not want a group. I don't really care if they ask or not, once in the group I find out what is going on, if they're working on the same quest why not help each other out...it is a mmorpg after all.

5. Try to keep out of the general chat dumbassery( I just made that one up) You'll see what I mean after 5 mins of being in game.

6. Go PvP. Kill Alliance scumbags.

7. Get Cosmos UI . It blows away the default UI. You may want to wait few on this though, until you're ok with the game.

I hear that choosing an East Coast server if you live on the West Coast or vice versa doesn't affect gameplay at all. The only thing that would be off was the hours of tech support. You'd have to call 3 hours ahead of time for any questions!

hey everyone, havn't play a MMORPG in probaly 2 years (stopped playing EQ during POP)


Hoping to try out WOW but I hadn't even tried to get into the beta and havn't played a game like this in forever, think I could join for a little while in your guild even if i'll probaly be clueless lol?

All my old eq friends want me to join some uber guild but I really don't think I will have the time to commit these days with school and so on.

This sucks, I was already on MalGanis... now I have to start a new guy.

Stormrage was overcrowded like hell, i dropped it like a bad habit and went too bloodhoof...........

I went to the west coast server garganosh or something like that because there was no wait. I got to level 6 with my tauren warrior "Circe" and then the lag set in. So far I have a good impression of the game, provided they fix lag issues. The graphics are excellent despite so much fanboy-wanker whinning. The map seems nearly useless, it doesn't tell me which ways are passable through the mountains or not. I gave up on one quest because I couldn't find the jerkbait whose head I was supposed to gather. I was in a party for a few minutes but then a kodo killed us both :] Looking forward to an extended weekend of play. I hope the quests become more imaginative once I level up.

A few questions:
1)Can I have more than one character per server?
2)If my normal server is busy can I move my character to another server with less traffic?
3)How characters are you allowed to have?

1. Yes, either 8 or 10.
2. You can move to another server but your characters do not move with you (so far...they may change this later on, Sony did with EQ).
3. I believe the limit is 50.

Had my first taste of PvP today!

I was heading to Orgrimmar after getting off the Zepplinn, and I soon as I get down the tower, there's a group of 4 NEs killing boars in the area. I immediately Stealth up, walk up right behind the lowest level person in the group, and Garrote his ass! I do my usual stuff and he goes down before the rest of them know I'm there. Once they all turn on me, I'm done for, but I still got the one of them. I love being a rogue!

I usually have around 1g 50s, but level 16 left me with a lot less. I hit a wall with UC quests (all elite or level 20+) so I moved to the barrens to level. We'll see how much money I can rake up from skinning mobs in the barrens.

I have been having a problem with my WoW. Everytime I start WoW for the first time every day I get an error from teh program and crashes. It states that I need to check my AGP temperature! I checked the internal temp of my rig and its OK. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a fix? Thanks

I just got signed in and I'm about 100 in queue for bleeding Hallow. I'll be in game in a while and I'll edit this post with my character names.

I played for 4 hours this morning (Saturday morning) and have had no lag whatsoever! WOOT!

I played for about 6 hours friday night on a 56k with no lag.

I'm playing Reese a dwarf Priest on Bleeding Hallow.

Detroit -- Level 11 Night Elf Rogue -- Arthas (PVP) Server. I never played any CB/OB and I am having a very hard time making some coin haha. Anyone know any good ways for me to make some cash around my level, Im currently exping/questin in Darnassus.

I forgot about this game....I hope I can still get the collectors edition.

Of all the time to get booted from WoW, the Van Cleaf Instance is not one of them I would reccomend. Bah.

what is your profession? If you are a rogue, I reccomend picking skinning and leather working, and Skin everything you can! light leather sells fairly well.

I just want to say that this game is awesome and I think it may be taking over my life: not necessarily a good thing.

Also, it's 10 to 3 in the morning and I've been playing almost all day.

Baldrick dwarf hunter mining/engineering woot i get to use a boom stick shop smart shop S-mart ... pluz i can make my own ammo and weapons for the gun part hehe

plus side a pet .. they level with you. pwns anything IMO and you get skills that others dont. track humanoids, track beasts. unlike the rest of the clueless classes you can see them on the min-map.

on the main lag/server thing... i reserve my judgement for the time being 4 months down the road it keeps doing it then ill voice my opinion. *fish in the ocean*

in choosing a server look at the population.. if its red and high forget it 500 que to wait .. your gonna have half a day getting in there. your best be is the nightly/morning server reset get in while you can.

max number of chars per server is 10 max number of chars per account is 50.

if you cant find it ask a guard. they will spot a flag on your mini map and your overhead world map.

beware of the UI.. user interfaces. blizzard is allowing them for now and most are free but they still have bug issues and could potentually spell doom for your account if they go against thier eula and tos.

a friend bought me a copy for christmas (early of course). He got a deal on the regular copy when he bought the Collectors Edition. I've barely had time to install but I hope to see some of you guys online :D

I've settled in to a gnomish mage character on Burning Blade. There's so much to do all the time. My goal now is to make one level per day - currently lvl. 17. I can't wait to start pvp raiding once I'm ready. Mages draw an insane amount of aggression, I'm just starting to manage it so I don't get hacked to bits whenever there's more than two melee creatures. My armor is only 240 and that's with the frost armor spell.

i beta'd this game, if you have any questions especially about leatherworking and rogues, let me know. I played a NE Rogue to lvl 34 or so.

Bought a copy the other day and I'm waiting to install it till after this week when I've got a lot of makeup work done. I'm considering returning it and seeking out a collectors edition...

You guys think it's safe to load the game yet? I'm going to try to get the most out of my free month and I know there's been some bugs within the servers.

The collectors edition pets are really neat, I'm jealous. Of course having an extra $30 is really neat too.

I haven't had any serious lag or a queue at all since the day it came out.

Woooo! Blizzard is making up for the early lag problems. Bonus!

I bought mine on the Tuesday it came out, so I don't get an extension. :(

Yeah that is pretty crazy. I would think that these people getting to high levels were 60's in the beta. They know the quickest route to 60 and probably have multiple people playing the account. I made 26 in OB and got that back pretty quickly since I knew the path to take. I'm now crusing slowly through the rest of the levels enjoying the content, working on my trade skills and just seeing all I can. Well that and making paste out of you Alliance scumbags! There are some really well designed areas in this game and some really cool buildings, ruins and towns.

One thing I really like are all the references to films and other types of pop culture. I went on a quest last night from Booty Bay to Gadgetzan, I had to stand on this platform while Chief Engineer Scooty calibrated it. Once that was done I got this rod that allows me to use that teleporter which takes you to Gadgetzan, the goblin on that side was named...Spork! He had a red shirt on and was a member of the Away team...good stuff!

Lvl 43 is the highest on my server.

I'm very impressed with the amount of content and detail this game has. i've only seen a fraction of it, and most people will never see all of it.

And you cant fish in high lvl areas like bootybay since Blizzard has removed all the fish on account of hackers using fishing bots or some crap. And I had just spent a gold on the expert fishing book. They say they will have it fixed by the next patch, but i'm pissed.

I love fishing, I got the book right after they changed Booty bay :(. Oh well I still fish up some interesting stuff, you alchemists have been supporting me with buying all those Oily Blackmouths I've been selling.

I also have a very similar setup with my icons. Do you use any macros? There are a few quite good ones for hunters I've seen listed, ones that will switch your aspects when you switch weapons. I'm going to try those out tonight, since the more beer I drink the more I forget to switch off Cheeta and I bet you know how that goes. :)

That's a big beast guarding that island! I think I'm going to wait until after xmas break to even install WoW. I'm hoping to take advantage of the month trial period and I'm heading home in two weeks where I won't be able to play (and I've got finals these two weeks...) Just wanted to pop in and say I'm loving WoW!

Attention to detail is putting it mildly! Every day I seem to discover new ways they have gone the extra mile on this game!

I'm playing Khadgar Alliance and Lliane Horde as well as half a dozen other servers when a server goes down!

If you like MMORPG, try this game!

I think the first chinks in my WoW nirvana have appeared. Ever since I passed level 20 it seems that every quest you do you have to group and being the antisocial hermit that I am I am not down with that. That and my groupings thus far have been less than ideal. I guess I will have to wait and see. Later

I've played 4 other MMORPGs, grouping is always rough in the beginning because everyone is still learning and a lot of people are just focusing on leveling (ie only grouping with friends or soloing). Once you /friend some people grouping gets a lot better, that is what MMOs are all about after all.

I'd just like to let you all know that I hate you all. Each everyone one of you who posted good things about this game...

Ya, this game is definetly draining my life.. worse than eq even. I've owned the game for about 72 hours and have logged over 35 hours on it, 72 including two 8-hour work shifts and a few hours of sleep.. Bad news.

But I do have a 21 troll mage on Ner'Zhul, a pacific PVP server. I guess it's a fair trade.

Hell yeah man! One of my roommates got it and in about the same time hit 21. Night elf druid. He played about 14 hours in one sitting. Very sick. I got to 21 in about a week, and I felt satisfied in that.

This latest patch killed my cosmos. I was so used to using this awesome UI, that I'm totally pissed now. I've resorted to using a couple dumbed down addons instead.

I like the dumbed down interfaces, less clutter

I tried Cosmos but it was so buggy that I couldn't do anything. The Cosmos site says not to use Alpha because it's gonna be buggy as hell...the beta was buggy enough for me. I hate how when you scroll over items the freakin armor rating disappears after 1 second.

Maybe the Alpha is less buggy. I'll give it a try!

Las there is a fix for that. I think it is the Cosmos options - uncheck enable props.

Can't decide between 'em. I like the rogue for PvP more, and the warlock for PvE more. And with the servers (both PvP) its nice to be on a low population server (nathrezim) since you don't get ganked nearly as much in contested areas...but then this game is an MMO after all and if youre not playing with people what's the point?

OK, I've been playing retail for about 2 weeks now (despite the fact that I'm in Dublin, Ireland :thumbsup: ) and my main character is Jadedfox lvl 37 paladin on the Dethecus server.

Any fellow TFPers on the Dethecus server? It's a low pop PvP server and I highly recommend it. No waiting lines or resource hogging. One of the guilds on the horde side (ChaosTheory) is so fun to PvP against.

Crackprogram: That was sheer gold. I laughed so hard I almost died. You got some good responses too :D
Mind if I steal some of those ideas and post on our server board? ;)

Detroit 33 Night Elf Rogue on Arthas, anyone else play on this server?

This game enraged me last night.

I went to turn in a guild charter that I had interrupted at least 5 hunting trips for to travel to my various low-level friends from work and other gaming activities and get their signatures. It turns out there was already a guild with the name that I wanted. I hadn't seen any of them in my 50+ hours of game time. They probably aren't even in my same faction.

Did the game inform me of this when I bought the charter? No.
Did the game prompt me for a new name and let me form the damn guild? No.
Did the game even give me another blank guild charter so I didn't have to buy another one? Of course it.

It just destroyed the completed charter, plain and simple. No guild, 10 silver reimbursement, no nothing. Asinine.

Pick a ridiculous name for your guild.
